The Border Fence is Working

At least in the small area its been completed, according to this new story.

People were saying it wouldn't work - and I kinda wonder where someone gets the stupidity necessary to think that a fence won't prevent the neighbors from jumping into your yard.

Be that as it may, the success of the border fence will just more intensely drive the immigration/border security issue for 2008 - and this is an issue which is a winner for the GOP, and landmine for the Democrats.

Of course the fence is "working"

The illegals simply go around the fence instead of through it just like the article says..

Yes a 400 mile fence for a border over a thousand...genius ideas for your taxpayer money from the party that is suppose to be reducing governement

neologizer,

The fence isn't intended to be a Maginot Line - but, rather, a means of constricting the flow of illegals and allowing us to concentrate our resources on just a few areas where crossings remain possible.

A border of more than 3,000 kilometres separates the US from Mexico - but it is defined not only by physical barriers made of concrete and steel but by an immigration policy which is failing to address the issues behind illegal migration.

Despite the US spending billions of dollars on border enforcement, the lure of work sees illegal migrants enter the country at a rate of 850,000 a year.

A series of walls along the Mexican border were designed to stem this flow but based on current estimates it has failed.

Instead, the walls have re-routed human traffic into remote desert areas where people risk their lives in deadly conditions attempting to enter the US.

If more states would adopt laws such as Oklahoma has, the flow of illegal immigrants will slow considerably, if not stop altogether. There has been a lot of controversary over this new law that just went into affect on November 1, but the majority of citizens of this state support it. No doubt the law will be challenged in the courts, but I am hopeful it will not be found to be unconstitutional. If it is not repealed, I believe more states will move to adopt it as well. Americans are tired of the illegal immigration problem - doesn't matter what their party affiliation. Hillary hurt herself badly by supporting Spitzer and his drivers license drive for illegals'.

400 miles of fence to contain a 1,969 mile border.... like building a house with one wall to keep out the elements.

Working to do what?? waste my tax's? showcase how government wastes money? that's about the only thing this fence is doing

Only 400 miles of fence.......why?

Could it be the foot-dragging by the neocoms in Congress?

Just before Nov. 2006 (and before the neocoms took control of Congress) Bush signed a bill for an additional 700 miles of fence.

When the neocoms took control, the fence was re-evaluated and the result was..............don't know, the do nothing neocom Congress hasn't addressed it yet.

They must be waiting for the UN decision when Mexico protested the fence and brought their complaint to the UN.

Heaven forbid we try to be a sovereign nation and protect our borders.

"400 miles of fence to contain a 1,969 mile border.... like building a house with one wall to keep out the elements." neologizer

This is the typical leftists rant...a 1,969 mile fence can't be built so don't build even a mile.

There is no need for a fence along the entire border. Topography along much of the border provdies a formidable natual fence as it is.

Have you ever been to Big Bend National Park? Didn't think so. Mexico is separated from Texas at this point by the Rio Grande. But that's not what prevents anyone from using this area. Its the impassable deep canyon and desolate terrain.

Hey PHNX

Are you a park ranger in BIG BEND?

No? why is this the case then... (note the reasons given)

MOST DANGEROUS PARKS

National park rangers nationwide were surveyed in 2002 about which parks were most dangerous and why.

Here are the top 10:
1)Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
Arizona-Mexico border
Drug trafficking and heavy illegal immigrant traffic

2)Big Bend National Park
Texas-Mexico border
Drug smuggling, illegal immigrant traffic, plant and animal poachers along more than 100 miles of the border with Mexico

PS
I'll assume you're just ignorant unless you can explain why national park rangers list illegal immigrant traffic a problem in Big Bend National Park

I think the plan is to stimulate the Mexican economy by creating more new jobs in the ladder manufacturing industry.

Neologic,

"Topography along MUCH of the border provdies a formidable natual fence as it is."

What is it about this that you don't understand. Of the 100 miles of border of Big Bend Natinal Park, very little is usable, this funnels any transiting the area into small passages. Of the 100 miles, perhaps 85 to 90% is impassable due to the terrain. Of course you'd know that if you'd have visited there instead of some web site.

The point being, a fence is not needed all along the border, only in some parts. But apparently this logic escapes your peanut brain.

AH PHNX

ignorance is bliss

what don't you understand about NATIONAL PARK RANGERS saying there's a problem with illegal immigrants in Big Bend

If there's a problem in your self described supposive "impassible canyon" area what the hell is 400 miles of fence along a 1,969 mile border going to do besides waste your taxes

Posted by: neologizer [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 7, 2007 12:11 AM

Blissful are you nologic?

They haven't yet built any fences yet in Big Bend. And they won't have to along the entire 100 miles, only a small percentage due to the prevelance of natural barriers moron.

I'm not sure what's more comical here

Mark saying the border fence is working or you basically claiming to usurp USPark Rangers in knowledge of illegal immigrant traffic around Big Bend national park

Maybe I should stop being a pragmatist and try being an ideolog like you two... clearly I'd be more content by the incompent and untruthful nature of our current administration
