Al-Qaeda on the Run in Iraq

More good news from the front lines in the War on Terrorism:

WASHINGTON — Al-Qaida may not yet be defeated in Iraq, but the group's terrorists are on the run, a senior official in the area said.

"We've taken out a significant part of their leadership. We've gone after their foreign fighter facilitation network. We've gone after their financial networks. And ... we also have gone after, very heavily, their propaganda network," said Navy Rear Adm. Gregory J. Smith, spokesman for Multi-National Force - Iraq, via telephone to a group of military analysts.

As much as 80 percent of al-Qaida's media structure has been destroyed, greatly hampering the group's ability to spread propaganda, recruit and gain financing for its operations, Smith said.

Reports in the country have shown a downward trend in violence against coalition forces, civilians and the Iraqi security forces, Smith said. He added that he remains cautiously optimistic, but he also warned of the lethality that still exists within al-Qaida's network.

"Those are good trends, and we are seeing some very good numbers. But ... obviously we have a lot of work to do, as well," Smith said. "(Al-Qaida is) still very much a threat."

Say a prayer for our brave men and women in Iraq, good people - this is the time to set aside partisan rancor on Iraq and just honor the troops who have performed so magnificently in a very difficult environment. We all want the troops to come home, and lets hope that the good signs we're seeing are an ernest of their swift and glorious return.

UPDATE: And it isn't just our troops who have to put up with negative MSM reporting from Iraq - Australia's Diggers have to put up with the same sort of thing.

As an aside, since America went into World War One in 1917, there has been one nation which has been with us through thick and thin in each and every crisis and war...and that is Australia. Remember, also, that we have some very brave and dedicated allies serving alongside our soldiers.

But I read in the antique media for months and months, and from our Defeatocrats and liberal bloggers that Iraq was a civil war! And that it was lost. Cut and Run!

Maybe we can invade Iran so that Al Qaida can follow us there and we can kill some more of them. The end of this Republican leadership can't come soon enough. We had Al Qaida cornered in Afghanistan, but now they have sprinkled their seeds in Iraq. And just an educated guess tells me these terrorists were not even members of Al Qaida prior to our occupation of Iraq.

Leave it to B4B to keep the lie that the invasion of Iraq had anything to do with Al Qaida and 911 alive and well. You get a big Rush ditto today. Can we expect Noun, Verb, 911 Rudy to repeat the same in 2008?.

I'm glad things are looking up. This kind of thing takes time.

"We had Al Qaida cornered in Afghanistan, but now they have sprinkled their seeds in Iraq......."

Have the borders of Afghanistan expanded to the shores of Indonesia and the banks of western Europe and also reaches into Africa?

Here is another neocom (or neosoc whichever you prefer) who decided to post after crawling out from under a rock and regurgitating the neocom spin.

Was Al Qaeda cornered in Afghanistan just like Hussein was contained in Iraq?

You forget some older spin that Al Qaeda was in Iraq because Hussein did not have full control of northern Iraq and not because of some "working relationship".

You really must keep up with the everchanging spin.

I'm sorry jane, what? Can you quote where someone said 9/11. 9/11 was one particular set of attacks. Al Queada is a western/American hating organization. Should I write a further explanation for you?

You also realize that though they both hate us, the radical Sunni Al Queda hates the Iranian Shiites, right? Oh waht the heck. You don't care.

Plainjane.

Kahn,

You've got to have patience with Plainjane. She gets her news from the Daily Show. She hasn't figured out yet that its a feux news comedy show. She probably thinks Colbert was serious about his Presidential bid.

BTW: In South Carolina Colbert polled above the combined total of Kucinich and Biden. So I guess she wasn't the only lefty who thought he was serious. Kucinich has the lead in Roswell, NM, and my guess he's pjane's candidate.

phnx,

That's a great observation that emphasizes how dangerous their stupidity is. The left not only thought Colbert was probably a serious candidate, they apparently also thought that a comedy show host was qualified to be POTUS.

And they call themselves the "reality based community"

There does seem to be a lot of hatred here for the party of choice of the majority of American voters.
It must hurt bad, I can almost feel your pain but not quite That such a despised political party could be favored over such a wonderful one must be demoralizing. When your party's image is in such a bad place I think you would do well to be trying to improve your own image rather than trying to prove how bad the opposition is. That tactic really only works when you are already the favorite.

Thanks for posting some good news. By the way, you might be interested in the Wounded Warriors Project. It's a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness for U.S. troops severely wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. It really puts a face on the cost of this conflict. Here's a link:
