He's the Son of Hindu Immigrants, He's Not White, He's a Republican, and He was Just Elected Governor of Louisiana

If we had a real MSM, this would be some rather major news:

New York: US Republican Bobby Jindal has won the Louisiana governor's race - making him the first-ever politician of Indian descent to become governor of one of the 50 US states.

Jindal secured 444,550 votes or 53 per cent.

His nearest competitors were: Democrat Walter Boasso with 155,154 votes or 18 per cent; Independent John Georges had 120,103 votes or 14 per cent; Democrat Foster Campbell with 109,375 or 13 per cent. Eight candidates divided the rest.

Jindal was born Piyush Jindal in Baton Rouge to a Hindu Indian family. As a youth, he started calling himself Bobby in an attempt to assimilate with the US society, and as a teenager converted to Roman Catholicism.

Got that from something called "Sify News", which appears to be an Indian website. It is also carried by Indo-Asian News Service. CNN's Indian service carries it. Doesn't seem to rate a lot of notice in the Associated Press...or CNN here at home, or CBS, or NBC, or ABC...I'm sure there are such reports out there, or will be by the morning...but, ya know, this is rather large news, isn't it? First Indian-descended governor in the United States; youngest current American governor; first Republican governor of Louisiana since Reconstruction...rather odd that so little notice is made of it, huh?

Could it be that a GOPer winning doesn't fit in with the "Democrats are bound to win" MSM meme?

UPDATE: Did a bit of checking - Fox News has it up front on their website. Not only does CNN not have it up on their main page, they don't even have it up front on their "US News" link. CBS has it up, as does ABC but NBC/MSNBC don't have it up.

Now, imagine if it were 2005 and, say, what the headlines would be had a Democrat won the New York mayoral election...

A republican won in a traditionally democratic stronghold, following the debacle that was Katrina which was portrayed to be "Bush's" fault?

Interesting. A sign of things to come?

As I type this, CNN has it up as its primary headline. It refers to him as the first non-white to hold post since Reconstruction, but doesn't say he's the first Republican governor since Reconstruction.

Jindahl won despite the best efforts of the Dem slime machine and the opposition outspending him by more than 2 to 1!!!

Seems the electorate had enough of Democrat corruption and inaction.

Congratulations Bobby!!!!

Fallout from the dispersal of NOLA Democrats after Katrina. Louisianna would have gone GOP a long time ago except for New Orleans; that's why they've been so desperate to rebuild New Orleans as it was and get those people back.

Unfortunately for them the 9th Ward is not coming back and the tens of thousands of people displaced from the state are happy where they are.

Robert,

I said the MSM would have it up in the AM...but it was the biggest news story of October 20th, 2007 and the results were known fairly early in the evening...biggest source of initial news outside local, Lousiana sources? Indian websites...

He isn't the first Republican since Reconstruction, though, another Republican governor retired just four years ago. Even so, it's good news.
