Democrat Congressman Accuses Troops of "Blowing Up Innocent People"

While on the House floor, Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA), took the SCHIP debate to a new low. He said, “You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President's amusement.”

So not only is Stark accusing President Bush of waging a war for "amusement," but he's accusing American troops of "blowing up innocent people."

Pete Stark should apologize immediately to our troops, and President Bush. He should also apologize to all Americans for exploiting their children in a hateful attack on our troops.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that despite the Democrats false rhetoric and harsh attacks over SCHIP, Americans agree with Bush.

UPDATE: Stark's remarks were warmly received on Daily Kos, and he even posted a thank you to the Kossacks.

If there was ever a doubt about which party supports the troops and which doesn't, this put the issue to rest. If the Dems don't take down his statement, or censure him, they show by their silence that they condone this brazen INSULT to our brave men and women serving in defense of this country.

This will no doubt be used by AL Queda to inflame the arab street.

Good work hatetriots!!!!

The only thing I can figure is that Stark, representing an ultra-liberal district, has just become overly arrogant...clearly, it is time for him to resign, as he can render no further service to the people of the United States of America.

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 18, 2007 03:34 PM

What makes you think he's talking about the troops and not Blackwater?

Posted by: longz at October 18, 2007 03:35 PM

longz,

Listening to the statement, I don't think anyone could construe it as a statement regarding Blackwater; its clear he's refering to the troops; given such things as his absurd contention that the war is "illegal, etc.

However, even if Stark were intending to indict Blackwater, all he's managed to do is greatly insult everyone who disagrees with him on the war, all of the troops (current and veteran - including myself, and my father...and the memory of both my grandfathers and my late uncle), and provide grist for the enemy proganda mill. Whatever Stark's thinking prior to opening his mouth, the only decent thing for him to do is resign...and if he won't resign, then the House should censure...and, trust me on this, if Pelosi would allow such a motion to come to the floor, it would get majority support...too many Democrats have to face moderate and conservative voters next year for any of them to want Stark's comments to be the emblem of their party...of course, if they don't censure and Stark doesn't resign, we'll be sure to tie each and every Democrat to Stark.

"if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President's amusement.”

At least the 40,000,000 aborted by "prochoice" didn't have their heads blown off. Simple suction.
But Stark is concerned about the 3000 of our brave, patriots who actually did make a choice, as adults, not a choice made by their 'mother' for their unborn who has no choice?

Pete, show your colors again. Cut off spending at your own peril.#@%^!&*!!

Thank God the Democrats are finally fighting back and calling out this war and Bush for what it is.

It is a blessing in disguise that Bush's S-CHIP veto was upheld against the wishes 0f 80% of the American people.

See you in 2008, with a Democratic president and a Dem veto proof majority in both houses!

Thanks Bush!

That's tellin 'em Mr Stark!

If America had more in their parliament like this fine Man you cowards back in your Wal-Mart hovels would have nothing to crow about. Americans love war not peace and that makes their so called majority religion a bloody sham. Last time We checked Christianity was supposed to be a religion of peace and love. In your lust for blood and death you are no better than the fanatical xenophobic minority of Musselman.

It's pretty clear he's talking about Blackwater but, see, like the Kerry "botched joke" the Repugs always assume that Dems are smearing the troops. It's a reflex action.

Meanwhile, these same Congressional idiots refuse to override Chimpy's veto despite the fact that (from CBS news):

"Eight in 10 Americans favor expanding the State Children's Health Insurance Program, or S-CHIP, including large majorities of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.

While the president has raised concerns about the additional cost of expanding S-CHIP, those who favor the proposal say they'd even be willing to pay more in taxes to help the program cover more children."

We're gonna eat you ALIVE next year.

Idiots.

Cyber,

I guess you on the left have got your talking points - Stark was just talking about Blackwater...just like Kerry's egregious insult was just a "botched joke". There is no shame on your side at all...

And, before you break out the champagne for next year SCHIP will be passed...but it will be passed as a program to help poor children. And if you ask a poll question, "do you agree with paying more money for SCHIP to cover more children?", you'll get one answer...if you ask the proper question, "Democrats want to spend more money to cover children of well-off middle class voters; do you think we should spend more of your hard earned money to help Democrats buy votes?", you'll get a different ansewr.

So, you think that President Bush has sent troops to Iraq so that they can get their heads blown off for his amusement?

Pain,

Anyways, so you, too, think that President Bush has sent troop to Iraq so they can get their heads blown off for his amusement? Is that what you really think?

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 18, 2007 04:39 PM

This is the question Mark would ask people in a poll: ""Democrats want to spend more money to cover children of well-off middle class voters; do you think we should spend more of your hard earned money to help Democrats buy votes?"

Gee, why don't you ask them "President Bush, who, according to sources, doesn't like black people, puppies or babies, just vetoed a bill that would have helped lower middle-class parents pay for their childrens health care, rather than chose between adequate medical care for their kids or FOOD. Do you agree with this decision to screw over these families?"

Ask a loaded question, get a loaded answer. You know?

Pete Stark is a Democratic Member of Congress who represents the 13th District of California, the shipyard and factory eastern side of San Francisco Bay known as the East Bay. Majority minority, this district where Al Gore carried two of every three votes in 2000 is 28 percent Asian-American, 21 percent Hispanic and 6 percent African-American.

Pete Stark, born in 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, served in the U.S. Air Force for two years during the mid-1950s and earned an engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and M.B.A. from the University of California Berkeley. In 1961 he founded a bank in the East Bay town of Fremont, attracting leftwing customers by mounting a giant peace symbol atop its headquarters and on the bank's checks. In 1963 he founded Security National Bank based in Walnut Creek, a successful enterprise that made him wealthy.

In 1972 Stark spent money lavishly to beat an 81-year-old incumbent Democratic congressman in the primary and narrowly win election in this liberal district despite Democratic Presidential candidate George McGovern's defeat that year in California and nearly every other state. Stark has been re-elected easily since then.

Congressman Stark is a member of the radical Progressive Caucus in the House of Representatives. The leftwing Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) rates his voting record as between 95 and 100 percent on the left side of legislation. Stark, now senior Democrat on the Joint Economic Committee, is such an enthusiast of taxation that he was one of only two congressmen to vote against repeal of the three percent telephone excise tax imposed more than a century earlier to help fund the Spanish-American War. He also authored the Catastrophic Health Care Act of 1988, enacted but repealed a year later when an outcry arose over Stark's stealthy provision that imposed a heavy tax on Medicare recipients earning significant incomes.

Despite more than three decades of seniority in Congress, Stark regularly exhibits hot-tempered, hot-tongued behavior that has made him an embarrassment on both sides of the aisle. This is easily inferred from examples given by Michael Barone and his co-authors of the 2004 Almanac of American Politics. During a May 2001 committee hearing Stark inaccurately declared that all the children of an African-American Republican congressional leader had been born out of wedlock. At a prescription drug hearing in February 2003, Stark incorrectly said that President George W. Bush had gone to Alcoholics Anonymous to quit drinking. (President Bush, noted Barone, has never said he attended AA or that he was an alcoholic.)

During one 2003 legislative mark-up session on pension funds Stark hurled epithets such as "fruitcake" and "c--ks----r" at Republican colleagues. In response to a request by fellow Ways and Means Committee member Scott McInnis (R.-Colorado) to stop such disruptive behavior, Stark said: "You think you are big enough to make me, you little wimp? Come on. Come over here and make me. I dare you….you little fruitcake. You little fruitcake. I said you are a fruitcake!" (McInnis is married and heterosexual. Gay organizations refused to criticize the leftwing Democrat's liberal use of anti-homosexual insults.)

Neither did the Black Caucus utter a word of criticism, observed columnist Michelle Malkin, when Stark openly described the George H.W. Bush Administration's Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Louis Sullivan as "a disgrace to his race and his profession" for opposing Stark's proposals for socialized medicine.

"I guess I should feel ashamed because Congressman Stark thinks I am not a 'good Negro,'" Sullivan observed after the 1990 statement. "As a Cabinet member who has spent almost four decades of my life dedicated to healing,….[I] am unable to express my own views without being subject to race-based criticism by those who are not ready to accept independent thinking by a black man."

Stark likewise attacked conservative California state welfare director Eloise Anderson (who is black and a former welfare mother), saying she would "kill children if she had her way." Anderson's sin was to be an advocate of welfare reform. Nobody in the liberal media criticized Stark for making this statement.

In March 2003 Stark told an Oakland Tribune reporter that if terrorists made another 9-11 attack on America, there would be "blood on Bush's hands." Like most leftwing Democrats, Stark voted against the use of force in Iraq but also against allowing oil drilling on a mere 20 acres of the 1.2 million acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), thus voting to keep America dependent on Middle Eastern.

Rep. Stark, a professed Unitarian, has made no secret of his hatred for conservative religious belief. He routinely attacks Republicans for their "blind allegiance to the Holy Rollers of the Christian right" and "the messianic Pharisees of the religious right." Stark was one of only three leftwing Democrats in 2002 who voted against a resolution condemning the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional and had to be prohibited in public schools and other government forums because it contained the words "under God."

During the summer of 2003, noted Joel Mowbray, "even the famously liberal San Francisco Chronicle all but called on Stark to leave public life for his well-documented 'legend of buffoonery.'"

Stark is the ranking Democrat on the Health Committee and would become its chairman if his party regained majority control. (If New York Congressman Charles Rangel retired and Democrats regained power, Stark would also be one of two - the other being fellow Californian Robert Matsui - to contest for chair of the immensely powerful House Ways and Means Committee.)

His Health Committee status explains why Stark gets more campaign donations from the health industry and its professional associations than he gets from organized labor, trial lawyers or other prime leftwing Democratic funders. Stark gets 93.5 percent of his campaign funds from outside the State of California and the district he represents - almost all coming from the vicinity of Washington, D.C.

OT, but I just posted this in the "birth control for kiddies" thread, and I wanted to make sure that Dr. Retard saw it:

This teaching kids to have sex at a younger and younger age could have dire consequences. Let's say kblack77 someday learns how to have children, and she has a little boy. Just envision this lad's explanation to kblack77 once little kblack38.5 knocks some twelve-year-old. It goes something like this:

kblack38.5: "I don't know what happened, mommy; I did just as they taught me. I put that condom on that cucumber, and then me and Janie had sex. I don't know why Janie got pregnant."

kblack77: "Those damn teachers taught you wrong--Everybody knows, from the polls I've seen, that you're supposed to turn the condom inside out before you put in on the cucumber. We're suing!!!"

Let's all hope Dr. Retard never learns about the birds and the bees...

GOP 4 ME,

That pretty much sums it up in a nice manner, without actually calling the Looney Left-Wing Liberals (Democrats) what they really are!

Until Conservatives wake up, unite, and aggressively work to remove the losers, Liberals (Democrats) will continue with their corrosive and divisive efforts to undermine and destroy America! The more they say and do, the more irritating and destructive they become!

Any guesses on how many world papers and news organizations will carry this lunatic "blow-up-innocent-people" speech in the upcoming days -- spreading and encouraging ever more hatred toward America, further damaging America's image, providing more lying propaganda for our enemies, and further undermining America's influence around the world -- just as Democrats have done so well and effectively day after day for seven straight years!

Any guesses how many hundreds of millions (probably billions) around the world will believe the lies -- just as they have believed the rest of the Democrats' anti-American lying propaganda before it?

America can't afford "friends" like the nutty Democrats!

"Anyways, so you, too, think that President Bush has sent troop to Iraq so they can get their heads blown off for his amusement? Is that what you really think?"

It makes more rational sense than 1)building democracy in a nation that doesn't exist and has never known it, or 2) securing control of oil, or 3)removing Hussein al Tikriti's WMDs which are a clear and present danger to the US.

We, Ourselves, can accept a US president that is a psychopath but not one that is a liar and cannot give a rational reason for the murder of one million people and the destruction of an entire nation. Replace Bush with Bill Clinton Noonan and you would be HOWLING for him to be tarred and feathered and run out of Wasington on a rail for hosing up the war on terror.

We do really feel that Bush could care less about how many people his or otherwise get killed in Iraq because no one he loves or any of his personal welath depends on the outcome.
We hope this is clear enough for you.

In the past, the Dem leadership in the House, consisted of more rational heads who, despite their left wing leanings, were more skilled at keeping the loonatic fringe under control, and hiding the real agenda.

Because of longevity, the Dems from the most leftwing loonatic fringe districts have now risen to leadership positions. As leaders, they and their looney thoughts and ideas are more frequently out there for all of America to see. They also exercise no restraint on their membership.

Finally, the US electorate is beginging to see the left revealed for the loonies that they are. Let's hope that it continues.

1) Bush isn't running in 2008 so you won't need a veto proof Congress.
2) If a Dem wins the Presidency you won't need a veto proof Congress.
3) If the Republicans win the Presidency it is unlikely that the Dems will maintain a majority in the House and Senate much less have a veto proof majority.

Blackwater did not use depleted uranium and white phosphorous on a civilian population, nor did they drop cluster bombs in urban areas. That was all U.S. troops. Why do we have the money to kill innocent Iraqi children, but we don’t have the money to save American children?

Actually there is a huge difference Casper! There is a huge difference between telling me that I'm a phony soldier and telling me I'm blowing up innocent people. One is a matter of opinion that can easily be laughed off, the other is an accusation of atrocities! Big dif.

The other thing is that the wacky lefty's in leadership are ratcheting up their rethoric in calling the president every disgusting thing they can. Rush's comment had nothing to do with that, they pertained to specific, proven phony soldier.

The differences couldn't be more clear!

Casper,

Do you listen to Rush Limbaugh enough to know how much he supports America's military? Were you listing the day he made the remarks about "phony soldiers", to include the day before and after?

Rush Limbaugh's comments were deliberately twisted by the Left into something he did not mean, and when taken in context, did not say!

As Yahoo News said:

...Limbaugh elaborated on the subject, explaining exactly what he meant by the term. He named one Jesse Macbeth as an example of a "phony soldier". Macbeth had become an overnight darling of the far left, a self-described Iraq war veteran and Purple Heart recipient who posted a YouTube video denouncing American military atrocities he'd witnessed.
Except he was never awarded a Purple Heart. He was never in Iraq. In fact, he was never in the military, period. He was tossed out of boot camp after four months. Macbeth is now in prison serving a five-month term for falsifying Army records and applying falsely for veterans' benefits. Limbaugh was right.
Limbaugh also pointed out that he wasn't the first to discuss the Macbeth phony soldier story. Brian Ross had filed a report on this man several nights before, on ABC's "World News." Ross even used the term "phony soldier" — and not a soul on the left found fault with that.
So the left returned with another charge: Limbaugh had used the plural, "phony soldiers," therefore Limbaugh's sole example — Macbeth — was inadequate. So are there any other "phony soldiers" out there? Jeffrey Sullivan, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington, thinks so. Besides prosecuting Macbeth, he's prosecuted another five "phony soldiers." Jim O'Neill, the assistant inspector general for investigations at the Veterans Administration, confirms that the federal government is presently conducting another 60 such "stolen valor" cases. Rush was right, in spades.

Now you are saying Stark did not say what he said? You are saying we are taking it out of context? You are saying we misunderstood his words? Did we miss Democrat Stark "clarifying" what he said?

Are you saying too that, speaking on the House floor, Stark did not also say: "Under the Republican plan, by 2017, we probably will have killed 20,000 soldiers in Iraq, spending $200 billion."

Seems like a waste of time to me.

George Bush "Can we win? I don't think you can win it." --after being asked whether the war on terror was winnable, "Today" show interview, Aug. 30, 2004

So should I assume that the above elected official was disparaging the troops and declaring defeat, or could I make the assumption that he simply misspoke.

Personally, I think he misspoke.

I must admit that i didn't hear the rest of the congressman's speech.

So, what exactly WAS he saying? Please, nothing about Rush. What exactly did the Congressman mean?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 18, 2007 11:04 PM

During debate on the SCHIP children's health care legislation Rep. Stark stated: "You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President's amusement."

The meaning seems pretty clear.

Kahn,
"I must admit that i didn't hear the rest of the congressman's speech.

So, what exactly WAS he saying?"

To be honest, I don't know. The point that I'm trying to make is that both sides are looking for any slip up someone from the other side might make to make them look bad.
If I'm ever held to that standard I'm dead meat. I probably misspeak at least a dozen times a week. Of course it's probably because I'm a hopeless idiot with reading comprehension problems. LOL

Casper..
Please...if you do not know what he meant by reading and listening to it......I swear I don't know if there is any hope for your rational thinking.
Also, there are a lot of trolls on this thread that need serious meds....serious meds. Insanity , sheer insanity...
and RAVE ON, Pete Stark..RAVE ON..showing the true face of the Socialist Democrat Party..
You have just put another nail in the Democrat political coffin....just keep poundin'!!!!!

Posted by: Xango Annie at October 18, 2007 11:41 PM

Holy crap Casper, what?

All that and you don't even have some alternative explanation of the quote? Then can we go on the strength of his words? Unlike some of the attacks on conservatives of late, this does appear to at least be a complete paragraph, ergo a complete thought.

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 18, 2007 11:49 PM

Casper,

If you believe "both sides are looking for any slip up someone from the other side might make to make them look bad", who do you think started it? The Left-Wing fringe kook bloggers like MoveOn.Org and KOS, funded by people like Soros and groups set up by Hillary and associates!

That's all we've heard from the Democrats and their Left-Wing fringe for seven straight years -- day after day after day of hatred and attacks directed at President Bush, Dick Cheney, the administration, Republicans, Christians, our military, and anyone and everyone else who doesn't support the Democrats' Liberal agenda!

It's about time Republican and Conservatives finally woke up, get really angry, and start responding -- ten times over!

I've had it with Democrats and their anti-American Left-Wing fringe nuts!!!

Casper,

You're joking, right? I mean, you can't be serious.

Here you have a US Representative saying, "You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President's amusement."

There is nothing to take out of context. He clearly states that we are spending money on the GWOT to "blow up innocent people" and send[ing them] to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President's amusement", "Bush just likes to blow things up."

And the leadership of the House knows that he stepped over the line. If you watched the "debate" or read the transcript, Rep Stark was admonition by the Chair three separate times.

This "debate" and vote was to override the President's veto. The President has publically stated that he supports increased funding for the S-CHIP program. He just isn't going to allow it to be the second or third step towards universal, socialized healthcare.

The President isn't withholding money from the "children". He wants to prevent ADULTS from taking benefits away that are intended for the children. He wants to increase funding by 20%. How many programs get 20% increases. The problem was that the Democrats wanted to increase the funding by 140%, which is completely unjustified and unsupportable.

We're not going around "looking for skip-ups". You and your lying liberals in Congress are providing campaign fodder for the GOP, giftwrapped.

As I mentioned on another thread, "Never take a knife to a gunfight". You brought a plastic butter knife.

Kahn,
I admit I'm making some assumptions here. I'm assuming that if Stark had a history of attacking the troops, that you or some of the others on this blog would have pointed it out by now. Since you haven't, I am making the assumption that this was a one time screw up. If you can link to a number of quotes in which he attached the troops, I will stand corrected.

CW,

Do you know what a "depleted uranium" munition is? Do you know what white phosphorus is? Please carefully explain them, so that we can at least be sure you know what you are talking about.

USA,

Whatever, brother...still, you should take a break from blogs; they're getting too much under your skin.

attached, opps meant attacked

Posted by: Casper [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 19, 2007 12:27 AM

Casper - sorry dude. His history doesn't matter much. I have heard that this is his typical type of thing to say. But I'm not going out looking for quotes to defend him. Heck, you're defending him and even you're not going looking for quotes.

Admit it - he spoke utter crap. Stop arguing for him. Its pathetic. Don't burn your credibility here like some of the total leftist wackos have.

A-10,

Someone who's good at effective, motivational, public relations writing needs to put all of those facts and reasons down on paper in a fairly concise form and start an immediate e-mail campaign to get the truth out to the American people... asking them pass it to their friends, relatives, and contacts... post it to Conservative blogs... incorporate it in letters to the editor of their papers... and print hard copies to pass out to their friends who don't have Internet access, as is the case with many older Republicans and Conservatives.

We need to start doing the same thing for each and every issue! I would suggest a restricted group blog or discussion group for that purpose... to provide input... to review the suggested papers and wording... to suggest actions and strategy... etc. That should be done by the Republican Party, but after seven years, I've lost hope for any creative thinking and action from them!

Any good writers here?

Fox News just aired Stark's insane trash. There was absolutely NO mistaking what he said and intended!

Every radio and television station and network should broadcast it every hour until every American has heard many times the garbage being said by Democrats... and which has been said by them for the past seven years!

Trash like that should be removed from Congress!

Pete Stark should apologize immediately to our troops, and President Bush. He should also apologize to all Americans for exploiting their children in a hateful attack on our troops.

Pete Stark should resign in disgrace.

It's also obvious by the postings from the lefties that they have no understanding of the SCHIP bill, Bush's intentions and the reason for the veto.

How has the left become so completely detached from reality?

'08 should be a walk in the park.

rockville,

Really?

And your perception of what your nutty Democrat said is what?

I'm sure you support his idiotic and lying comments... especially comments like: "their heads blown off for the President's amusement”!

Really?!!!

It's past time for the repubs to throw down the gauntlet on these anti-military slurs by these idiot congressCreeps.
StarkRavingCrazy needs to apoligize on the floor, rebuked by the congress, his words stricken from the congressional record...or do the honorable thing and resign.

The Republican party needs to shut down the house until this happens.

you love this guy stark
he gives you the ammo you need
and
heads blown off not for the presidents amusement?
he meant to say....
"heads blown off for the presidents profiteering"

Stark, who originally refused to apologize, has now reversed course and apologized to the President, our soldiers, their families, and his costituents for his inflamatory remarks.

Seems calmer heads in the Democrat Caucus convinced him how damaging his words were to the election efforts of the Dems.

Tanslation = We don't want the electorate to know what we Dems really think.
