Do these idiots really believe Ahmadinejihad will speak the truth? Doah!
People in Iran are very joyous, happy people," he told a National Press Club audience that questioned him about the arrests of students, journalists and women. "They're very free in expressing what they think."
He said women in Iran were "the freest women in the world ... They're active in every level of society."
Yeah, whatever you say. Liar!
If Columbia truly believed in free speech, they would not have allowed their own students to shout down the spokesman for the Minutemen.
Let's see, deny the Holocaust, call for Israel's destruction, send weapons to our enemies in Iraq, have female citizens stoned to death for "crimes against chastity", and we'll let you speak, but if you try to help the U.S. (gasp!) secure its own border from illegal entry, you're beyond the pale.
I just heard an interview with him on Fox....and he was saying that America is very discriminating against others? LMAO!!! Talk about hypocrisy. Women are like dogs in his country!
And it isn't about Freedom of Speech in this instant. It is about providing a platform. And they would NEVER let Anne Coulter speak there...nor President Bush. Guarantee that!
I also doubt that the tough questions will be asked. It will end up being a bash America and bash Bush session.
Columbia just wanted the free press and now they have. Goal...........accomplished.
Oh, and im sure whatever lies he tells...the liberals will eat it up and say "see Bush is lying!!"
Wow. Im shocked. Bollinger is really telling the viewers the horrible things happening in Iran.
I keep waiting for Satan to run across the stage and attack him! haha
Bollinger just handed Mahmoud his ass. I was really surprised. Lets see how he responds.
I am shocked too, AFwife! From his opening, I now have a different view on the university prez! Now, the liar is speaking ...
Hey AFwife, how many times has the nutjob said the word "ignorant". He must be referring to himself! Wonder if he realizes a woman is translating for him? She's free because she lives HERE! Is the audience still awake?
I can't wait to hear Bush's speech at Tehran University........
Oh wait....
Banning Ahmadinejad from speaking at Columbia won't
improve conditions in Iran, nor will it lessen his
standing in that country. No one believes what he
says anyway, so what is the difference? What always
makes me gag is how guys like you pretend to be for
free speech, until it's free speech for someone you
don't like. Then it's "Oh, hey, I believe if free
speech, but lets not abuse it." Abuse is defined as
saying something you don't like.
I don't like the man either, but he should have the
right to address Columbia.
neocon: I can't wait to hear Bush's speech at Tehran University...
If, perchance, they were to offer, would you be in favor of Bush going -- complete with question and answer period?
fortunately for the rest of the US, mark, new yorkers are far too informed to take direction from your ilk. your myopic, black versus white attitude concerning how certain private institutions should conduct themselves in the presence of another nation's leader (no matter the legitimacy of their perceived threat) should be relegated to the dustbins of history (lunatics like dick cheney are begging for another war and people like yourself help to fan those flames to the detriment of the welfare of this nation).
as a former new yorker, myself, i'm quite content to point-out that the very prestigious columbia university has no need to recognize your fear-mongering banter as anything but more of the same regressive neoconservative zealotry.
What crap...The opening statement of the President of Colombia, sounded tough...the questioning wasn't. Instead of answering questions posed, time and again Amadinijan answered "let me first ask a question", allowing him to refocus the question on the west or on Bush.
Answering a question with a question is no answer at all. And the Dean let him get away with these responses.
On the Holocaust, there was a feeble attempt at getting an admission to the factual occurance, but once again Amidinijan deflected it by some ludicrous need to continue research as to the event, as if there is still some doubt as to its occurance. He then said, even if it did occur, why should the Palestinians be made to suffer for it. This gets to the basis of the Holocaust debate. He wants a referendum of ALL Palestinian people to determine their political future. He would not answer Yes or No to the question of if he and/or Iran seek the distruciton of Israel as a political entity.
On the issue of execution of homosexuals, his response: "We have no such people in Iran, who told you such tales." And the libs in the audience laughed!!!!!!
On the issue of freedom in Iran, he simply said there is freedom, blah blah blah...and they accepted it.
On the issue of Iran's direct support of terrorism, he once again deflected the question by saying, Iran was the vicitim of terrorism, and that the US harbors and supports the group that did it.
The laughter and applause of the Columbia student body was astonishing. Here they are face to face with the personification of evil...the man who has said time and again that he will wipe Israel and the US OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH...and they applaud him!!!
He made fools of them all. Useful idiots once again who will be toasting each other at cocktail parties all over NYC for their wisdom. What dillusion.
Is the speech over? Is it safe to come out from under my desk?
Bush said he did not have a problem with him speaking at Columbia
Whoa..whoa! When the Iranian people see and hear the edited version of this low-class-moron making ridiculous statements such as "we do not have homosexuals in Iran," I'm sure the word in the media will be that "he" schooled Americans, not, "he was schooled," as most would expect.
I guess the libs here in the USA are saying to themselves, "wow, no homosexuals in Iran, he must be correct because he says so." Yeah right, just like there were no terrorists in Iraq pre-invasion....right!
His inability to answer a simple question without reverting to liberal talking points is laughable, and the Donks should be proud that they have this freak on their side.
Yes sleepy. It's safe. But you can catch it on CSPAN. It's really quite entertaining in a curious sort of way. Bollinger started off ripping Prez A a new A-hole (I guess that now makes him Prez AA). I think Bollinger's best line was about Prez AA's views on the holocaust, calling him "either brazenly provocative or astonishingly uneducated."
For Prez AA's part he could hardly answer a question. He'd start talking, spun around a few times, and landed somewhere else almost without ever touching it, never mind addressing it. I have no idea what his present stand on the Holocaust is, except further study is required, lol! About Israel he was hopelessly vague, except the Palestinians should hold a political forum. I thought they already had one of those. And as I recall it didn't go well. On terrorism, some nations have a different attitude about what is fair. On nuclear arms, what he said about that made my head hurt. He went on and on about science and morality and openness and ended up saying essentially nothing at all.
The only thing he answered with any clarity was about discrimination against women and gays. On women he said they treated women fine -- as long as they remained basically barefoot and pregnant. On gays, the answer was... what gays? We don't got no stinkin' gays.
Interestingly, at the end of his preamble, Bollinger told him he doubted Prez AA would have the intellectual courage to answer those questions, but avoiding them would be meaningful in itself.
He didn't, and it was. It would surprise me greatly if that encounter ran in its entirety back home in Iran.
Arhmadimajad is not a dictator. He was popularly elected!
yes the Iranian president is a complete nutball. However Mark it would do you go to actually bother to see what happens before coming out with yet another completely inane rant. If you had bothered to listen to the actual event (I know Mark you will come up with a series of reasons why you don't need actually "have information" to "make decisions" -HA)
you would have seen that in fact the President of the University lacerated him on topics of the holocaust, women's rights, homosexuals rights, abuse, government torture, etc. etc..
But hey - keep on with your irrelevant rants - it only makes you look stupider every day
Bollingers introduction was brilliant. The students response was shameful. I particularly liked the "brazenly provacative or astonishingly uneducated" line.
Rico, re: Bush's invitation to Tehran to speak, please. First of all, I would be much more comfortable with Bush speaking in Iran, then I would be with any past or present Democratic leader. Secondly, if that ever happened, get your affairs in order.
libT,
That would be "more stupid", not stupider. Just FYI.
So let me get this straight. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad comes to Columbia, is asked some tough questions, many of which he either can't or won't answer, and shows himself to the world to be the idiot we all thought he was. How is this a bad thing for our country?
Hey Rico, he wasn't vague. He said he loved Israel. Right. Did you catch when he said he never believed the holocaust didn't happen and then in his next breath said, IF IT REALLY HAPPENED. He would never survive in the No Spin Zone.
Casper - the only problem is most Americans won't view the entire fiasco, and only get what the MSM wants to report. Even the moonbats applauded him during and after his "answers", which made me sick to my stomach.
conscriptor: If Nyorkers are so informed, why the hell did they elect Hillary?
"Casper - the only problem is most Americans won't view the entire fiasco, and only get what the MSM wants to report."
If that's the case, then it's not looking so good for Ahmadinejad. Just skimming through Google News and I would guess at least 2/3s of the articles are very negative towards him.
liberalturd: Do you think Bollinger gave that little speech in the beginning to appease the CU donors that were po'd at the Hitler invite? I'm sure that wasn't his original intro.
"liberalturd: Do you think Bollinger gave that little speech in the beginning to appease the CU donors that were po'd at the Hitler invite? I'm sure that wasn't his original intro."
And how would you know that?
Casper: So let me get this straight. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad comes to Columbia, is asked some tough questions, many of which he either can't or won't answer, and shows himself to the world to be the idiot we all thought he was. How is this a bad thing for our country?
How indeed. Although I have to say the way Bollinger threw down the gauntlet helped to draw his insipid meanderings into sharper focus. Then again, he was equally bad at the student-generated questions too.
But let me ask a harder question: What if he responded to those tough questions with insightful, erudite answers. How would that have been a bad thing for our country?
That's the thing about forums like this... unlike the prepared speeches people give at the UN or some other similar venue, when someone like Ahmadenijad has to answer real questions from real people without a script, it can be exceptionally informative. They might show themselves to be fools or they might not. But either way, I don't see where it hurts.
There were a couple of other things I learned today. One is that this forum was part of a series of forums on Iran at Columbia to take place in the coming year, involving a variety of experts and dignitaries. That ought to be very enlightening. Second, Prez AA accepted Bollinger's challenge to allow faculty and students from Columbia to visit any Iranian university they wished to speak and converse openly in a similar forum. We'll see if it really happens. But if it does, that could be enlightening as well.
kimberly - I have no idea. And guess what either do you. Why don't you just take the facts as they come rather than coming up with elaborate justifications. Actually if you had bothered to check:
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1189411455013&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
he actually was quite clear that he planed to challenge him - before making the comment about Hitler.
You would know this if you had even bothered to check the most basic facts. You guys are just crazy - you are so stuck in your ideology that no matter what happens you are convinced you are never wrong. Sad really
It's just an educated guess, Casper. Money talks.
k4b: He said he loved Israel. Right. Did you catch when he said he never believed the holocaust didn't happen and then in his next breath said, IF IT REALLY HAPPENED. He would never survive in the No Spin Zone.
It was so funny. I don't recall him saying he loved Israel. I believe he said "Iran loved all nations". But then he threw that thought into his mental Maytag and by the time he pulled it back out there were some obvious exceptions, lol! His answer to the Holocaust question was equally circular. As were most of the others.
I do so hope this event plays in its entirety back in Iran. Cuz the way it came across to me was nothing short of a train wreck.
"But let me ask a harder question: What if he responded to those tough questions with insightful, erudite answers. How would that have been a bad thing for our country?"
Excellent point. Regardless of how most of the posters on this blog feel, I just don't see how an event like this hurts our country.
LOL! Your analogy is so right on!!
I haven't seen anything on the Iranian blog sites ... Hopefully, some saw it on the webcast. It is more likely the Iranian government censored it, like they do most everything. I would bet they will broadcast the moonbats applauding him. Sheesh!
k4b, do you know if Iranians have access to the c-span.org site? It's already up there.
I doubt it, but I can direct them to it. Thanks.
Ricorun,
There are over 3000 stories listed on Google News. Aljazeera has a story about it on their site. I have a feeling it will get back to Iran.
"President of the University lacerated him on topics of the holocaust, women's rights, homosexuals rights, abuse, government torture, etc. etc.."
Did he ask him why he slaughters homosexuals?
jbiccum:
Maybe it's a Halal thing. Lol!
"What if he responded to those tough questions with insightful, erudite answers."
What if?????
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!
I can hear strains of "John Lennon's 'Imagine' rolling through my brain.
That is, afterall, the source material for most naive leftist thinking isn't it??
Bubububububub....WHAAA??
I am flabbergasted. Really.
"President Bush said Ahmadinejad's appearance at Columbia "speaks volumes about really the greatness of America."
He told Fox News Channel that if Bollinger considers Ahmadinejad's visit an educational experience for Columbia students, "I guess it's OK with me."
Why do all you people at BlogsForBush hate Bush and the "greatness of America"?
congressive: Why do all you people at BlogsForBush hate Bush and the "greatness of America"?
Well, "all you people" is a bit of an exaggeration, don't you think?
"Well, "all you people" is a bit of an exaggeration, don't you think?"
Exaggeration on Blogs for Bush. Couldn't be.
Next thing you know, we'll have people suggesting that all liberals hate America, or Bush supporters are Nazis.
Thank God, we're all above that sort of thing.
"Did he ask him why he slaughters homosexuals?"
Homosexuals??? There are no homosexuals in Iran. Where did you get such an idea? M.Amadinijan
The Evil has Landed - indeed.
Holocaust denying/plannning Iranian (dictator) Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's presence at Columbia University is abhorrent. Columbia University is a disgrace.
we'll have people suggesting that all liberals hate America--Casper.
No, maybe not all, but most!!
Jeremiah
Congressive,
President George W. Bush is a good man, and he does'nt want to offend anyone. However, I can assure you--what Columbia done? He detests very much so!!!
Columbia is a disgrace to American soil. Period.
Jeremiah
Earth is the insane asylum for the universe...then we have special locked units like Columbia University that allow furloughs for some of the world's craziest.
Jeremiah: However, I can assure you--what Columbia done? He detests very much so!!!
Are you channeling Bush now, too? For goodness sakes, he's not even dead yet!
Kind of like this exaggeration? There are over 3000 stories listed on Google News. Aljazeera has a story about it on their site. I have a feeling it will get back to Iran.
With the Iranian govt shutting down access to Google, banning blogger sites, using software to filter any sites containing anti-Iranian info, it will be difficult for Iranians to hear/see the speech. One can hope, though.
Congressive: Are you referring to yourself when you talk about Bush/America haters? You don't need to answer. We already know what it is.
BTW Congressive, I agree with the entire statement President Bush said, including he would not have invited him. Of course, you conveniently left that out, just as you did when you talked about the Mandella quote. Here is the entire quote:
Part of the reason why there is not this instant democracy in Iraq is because people are still recovering from Saddam Hussein's brutal rule. I thought an interesting comment was made when somebody said to me, "I heard somebody say, where's Mandela? Well, Mandela is dead, because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas." He was a brutal tyrant that divided people up and split families, and people are recovering from this. So there's a psychological recovery that is taking place. And it's hard work for them. And I understand it's hard work for them. Having said that, I'm not going the give them a pass when it comes to the central government's reconciliation efforts.
In this context, it is clear that the literal meaning of "Where's Mandela?" is "Where is the Iraqi who will play the role in his country that Mandela played in postapartheid South Africa?" This was a pithy metaphor, not an "embarrassing gaffe."
kimberly4bush,
Our school district spent some big money on state of the art filter software to keep kids away from certain sites on the Internet. Yet I know 13 year olds who have figured ways to by pass the filters. I'm betting there are people in Iran that have figured ways to bypass their filters to.
I finally had time to watch this mad man this afternoon and was reminded of an early Twillight Zone episode "To serve man." If you'll recall, the aliens presented themselves as saviors with a book that was written in their alien language that would save mankind and preserve Mother Earth.
It was a cookbook!
I think in this case Ahmadinejad was the one who got cooked.
Bush told Fox News Channel that if Bollinger considers Ahmadinejad's visit an educational experience for Columbia students, "I guess it's OK with me."
I had to go back and read it again to be sure I wasn't dreaming it.
Bush. On Fox News. Ahmadinejad's visit is "OK" with him.
Do you guys think he's drinking again or something? I mean, so many posts keep condemning both Ahmad and Bollinger as if Lucifer and his devil demons have taken over Columbia, and yet Bush is "ok" with it. CNN talking heads are blasting Columbia as some sort of haven for Satan. No one in the MSM is carrying Bush's approval of the event. No one.
How do you keep your heads from exploding?
Are you channeling Bush now, too?
Ricorun,
"Channel" him for what?
Hey, listen Dude, if all you are here to do is accuse people of non-sense, then you have no business typing your screed, hear?
Jeremiah
If, perchance, they were to offer, would you be in favor of Bush going -- complete with question and answer period?
I would be in favor, Rico; do you, by chance, believe he has anything to hide from the Iranian people? Heck, he openly addressed them during his '05 SOTU speech. I am of the belief that this regime is gonna be toppled from within, maybe within the next five years or so. Maybe Bush feels the same way.
When are the "bin Laden/Ahmidenijad 2008" bumper stickers gonna start adorning the Volvos and Subarus in the Balt/Wash area? Both do an excellent job of parroting Donkaroach talking points. Before you ROFL, be advised that I saw a minivan with a "Hugo Chavez 2008" sticker on it. I wonder if libtardT's mommy drives a minivan. I also wonder if libtardT and Ahmadenijad got their lobotomies from the same doctor, some sort of BOGO deal...
Bovary...that light at the end of the tunnel is probably an oncoming train.
Freedom1, did you know the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary?
The "mushroom" guy's a plant. He's a "false flag." He's there to rally the Republican/Lieberman base, and it's working BEAUTIFULLY.
There are over a MILLION Muslims living in Israel, almost 20% of the country's population, and growing.
Do you think Iran has a really, really smart nuke that will ONLY kill Jews? Whatever Islam's evil plots may entail, they aren't planning on returning a deadly, radioactive graveyard to a bunch of dead and/or radioactive Palestinians.
You've been pwned!
Congressive,
Are we talking about the same islamo-fascist' that have no problem blowing themselves up to take out others who don't believe the way they do...the same people who have said that Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth...the same people who have been seeking nuclear physicist's from Pakistan and N. Korea...the same people who have no problem stoning women, silencing their citizens who speak out against the government, controlling the media, taking hostages, supplying weapons to terrorist groups?
Seriously, congressive, has your reality check bounced?
Posted by: congressive at September 25, 2007 12:54 AM
You see what I mean folks, Liberal Commies like Congressive here, just used the the appearance of Evil Ahmadinejad to give thier anti-American rhetoric a boost, and to further the weakening of America, by spewing more of their lies and conspiracy theories!!!
Garbage like what Congressive wrote that should never stand!!!!
Jeremiah
Do you think Iran has a really, really smart nuke that will ONLY kill Jews? Whatever Islam's evil plots may entail, they aren't planning on returning a deadly, radioactive graveyard to a bunch of dead and/or radioactive Palestinians.

*******
You show your ignorance of Islam, Congressive. Ahmadinejad is attempting to bring about a seconed Jewish holocaust to bring back the 12th Imam. Islam and Ahmadinejad sees those Muslims who'd get nuked along with the Jews as martyrs to the jihad. Translation: Ahmadinejad doesn't care about the Muslims in Israel/Palestinian territories who'd get wiped out in the nuclear blast. You are very poorly informed, Congressive.
"...that light at the end of the tunnel is probably an oncoming train." Posted by: Angry Redneck
Bwahaha!
In case anyone was wondering how this would be portrayed by the 'free press' in Iran:
"On second day of his entry in New York, and amid standing ovation of the audience that had attended the hall where the Iranian President was to give his lecture as of early hours of the day, Ahmadinejad said that Iran is not going to attack any country in the world."
From the Iran Republic News Agency
Freedom,
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience. Doesn't matter what we say, really. It's obvious they don't believe even their own liberal media sources...Islam is not a "peaceful" religion. It calls for the destruction of all "infidels", rewards suicide bombers with 40 virgins, and does not teach tolerance of others (at least not for long).
...Iranian President was to give his lecture....
I think the above wording speaks volumes. Suggesting that "amid a standing ovation" the President "lectured" those Americans.
Thankfully, Ahmendijad made himself out to be the fool he is, even in front of a somewhat sympathetic far left crowd. Denying the holocaust is one thing, but when he denied any presence of homosexuality, the crowd turned on him.
Well, Ahmadinejad has come to and gone from Columbia
University. He aired his bizarre beliefs, or what
he claims to be his beliefs, and received what he
wanted: a general shitstorm of anger and protest.
Don't forget this guy draws power from only two
sources - the indulgence of the theocracy that runs
Iran, and the amount of hysteria he can kick up in
the western world. I would say that you helped him
out with your rants, except that no one in Iran has
the slightest idea of what you have said or are
saying. So, your hands are clean.
Every time he is condemned in the western press
a portion of the Iranian public fairly swoons over
his greatness. It reminds me of Idi Amin in his
heyday.
Neocon,
Yes, a fool - but so, too, are we...because we had this man give a speech, and in the controlled press and media of Iran, it will be presented as a triumph.
Nothing to do with evil - that has to be our firm and unshakable policy.
Neocon,
What most leftist elites fail to understand is that this was never meant to be a debate. The Iran News report called it a lecture, as you point out. The target audience for this lecture was never the US public, it was the muslim world in general, and the Middle East specifically.
He was here to lecture the Great Satan about the virtues of Islam, and the condemn the US for its foreign policy...using Democrat talking points.
He will be hailed as a hero for 'speaking truth to power' in the belly of the beast.
Columbia, and the liberal elites were dupes and useful idiots, in this propaganda coup.
The amusing part is that liberals are now perplexed that he "didn't answer the questions". As if there ever was a chance that he would.
I don't like the man either, but he should have the right to address Columbia.
Well then, bonehead--let him go to Bogota. btw, how many Iranian-made IED's were scuttled into Iraq while your hero was speaking at CU? Idi Amin too--you have a warped sense of hero worship there, charlie-boy...
You would know this if you had even bothered to check the most basic facts. You guys are just crazy - you are so stuck in your ideology that no matter what happens you are convinced you are never wrong. Sad really
AhmadinelibturdT must have this in her notepad--she uses it over and over. I guess a lobotomy prevents you from coming up with original ideas. Sad, really.
But hey - keep on with your irrelevant rants - it only makes you look stupider every day
This, Mark, from someone who knows what it's like to look stupider every day. I wonder when she's gonna leave us for a few weeks, and then come back with a new nic, like she did last time.
You are very poorly informed, Congressive.
C'mon, Freedom1, tell 'im something he doesn't know.
I'm betting there are people in Iran that have figured ways to bypass their filters to.
"To?" As in "towards?" How 'bout "too," as in "also," teach. Now don't go reporting me for "abusive comments," Casper; I was merely pointing out my disappointment in a teacher who should know the difference between the two...
