Democrat Waste, Fraud and Abuse on Display in Michigan

Why isn't Governor Granholm (D-MI) featured prominently in Caucus of Corruption? Because Matt and I found that if we wanted to do a comprehensive look at Democrat corruption from the Federal government on down, it would have been a multi-volume set and taken a decade to write. But this news story is just business-as-usual for Democrats.

In it, you'll find that Michigan is facing a budget shortfall - that, in itself, is typical bogus Democratic rhetoric. There isn't a lack of money so much as a not enough money to pay for everything Democrats want. This would include the case of the State Police headquarters. Right now, the State of Michigan pays $1 per year to lease the State Police headquarters - the building is more than 60 years old and the Governor has tried to sell the story that its likely to collapse if someone sneezed hard at it, but the fact of the matter is that it isn't exactly about to fall down. What hasn't been looked into is the prospect of just renovating the structure.

Instead of being wise - and honest - what Granholm has decided to do is be foolish - and corrupt. Rather than keep this $1 a year building, Granholm is pushing a brand new police headquarters which will cost more than $100 million (think about that - if Granholm wanted to go a million times more expensive, it would have cost less than 1% of what she's planning on spending...would a million dollars have renovated the current building?). And it is worse than that - but entirely typical of Democrats: she's proposing this building which will profit massively an associate of hers.

As Matt and I point out in Caucus of Corruption, there won't be any cleaning up of politics until both sides are held accountable. Why is Granholm so boldly setting up a program to send mountains of taxpayer swag to a friend? Because she feels, as a Democrat, invincible on corruption. She knows the drill - if a GOPer did this, he'd be indicted in a week...a Democrat does it, and its just set aside and not worried about. Right now, William Jefferson (D-LA) sits in his House seat even though TWO MEN HAVE PLED GUILTY TO BRIBING HIM...with that as an example, Granholm likely thinks this deal is just trivial.

Corruption was used by Democrats as a bludgeon against Republicans last year - and Republicans, to their shame, gave them all too many opportunities to use that club. Now the GOP has paid its price and corrupt members have been forced out and the notion of honesty reinforced. When will the Democrats pay a price and start to clean out their own house?

Mark,

She had her accountability moment and that was called the 2006 election. Stop whining and get over it.

The people must take the opposition to the Democrats and make it known, that our government body of leaders will not be occupied by such foolish and dangerous people, such as: George Soros, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, John Murtha, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Ted Kennedy, and a slew of others. Vote 'em out, and keep 'em out.

Liberalismo Delenda Est.

Jeremiah,

All those people you listed, and many more, will be leaving on their own--via stretchers or in a coffin. They are safe in their seats, especially Kennedrunk, Spitball, Boxhead, and Piglosi. The only exception to your list is Her Thighness; she may leave via the White House, if our side doesn't: a. Grow a spine, or b. Come up with a viable plan for change.

Having adopted a new tone and attitude, I am no longer looking forward to the day when any of the Donkaroach miscreants departs this earth. That is in God's hands, and should I still be here when they go, I will neither celebrate nor mourn their passing. I couldn't care less about these people, as they couldn't care less about me...or you..or anyone but themselves, for that matter.

It is what it is...

OT, but is everyone experiencing the same "technical difficulties" I am? I can't comment on any but the first two threads here.

Did Cav and Pain put a demonic curse on B4B?

OT: Upon further review, I've found other threads where I can post, but some come up blank on my screen. Guess I'll go troll over at www.americablog.com--they have some first-rate kooks over there...

Halliburton is charging the military, and ultimately the US taxpayers $45 for a six pack of Iraqi Coca-Cola. Ben Carter, a water purification specialist for Halliburton, noticed something wiggling in one of the toilets he set up. When he tested the water and told his superiors that the Marines were showering in filthy untreated water he was fired. Blackwater Security mercenaries (neither accountable to American or Iraqi law) commit atrocities in Iraq which get blamed on American soldiers. In one instance $1 1/2 billion in shrink-wrapped bundles of US dollars was shipped out by helicopter to courier in the Iraqi desert. The courier took the money and was never seen again.

This blog has never mentioned a single damn word on the rampant corruption in this war. And it never will. Because when Bush rapes the US taxpayers it's considered an honorable thing on Blogs For Bush.

Keefer,

I just hope and pray that she doesn't even touch the White House!!!

I think every Christian Conservative Republican needs to stand now, and make their voices known; they don't even have to leave their own State, just set a date, and some how, some way, get themselves on the news, sending the message to Washington - address Washington specifically. However, we've got to have the numbers, because there's power in numbers, and it shows what the people of America want - that we want decent, honest, and law abiding Representatives to represent us!

There has got to be some way that we can do this, someone has got to step in and get this thing to rolling - Just as a random date...we could call it, say--March 28, 2008 - Which would be the date every state makes their voice known to the whole country and to Washington and maybe another one in September of '08.

The people have to buckle down, and take an interest, a part, in renewing civility in America, and primarily for the future sake of the children.

I can just see it, on Fox News as the top story of the day--*Fox News Alert-Developing: Millions take a stand for Truth in America!

That would be cause for much grinning and rejoicing; tears of happiness and joy!!!

In every state there would be a Fox News reporter to help send the message back to Washington!

We need people who will come out of the wood-work for just a day of their time to stand for what's right in this country!

I agree that God will handle the situation, Although I think He wants the people to help themselves before there can be a change for the better, because the people know what is right, and knowing what is right, they ought to want to vote for what is right, and start to erase and scrub some of the Liberalism from the minds of the youth who have been misguided.

BTW, I'm happy to hear the good news, really happy!

God bless you!!
:)

Keefer,

I've been seeing the same sort of irritating "technical difficulties" off and on for the past three or so days. It's appears similar to the problems we were having a couple of months back; although, not quite as extensive or severe.

Earlier, I was unable to post on the newer threads, but I haven't had those problems for the past few hours. I just checked some of the other threads and found three that are still "broken" -- the system is truncating and not displaying all of the comments or the "posting box" for those three topics.

I suspect Mark is aware of the problem.

Keefer,

RE: "Come up with a viable plan for change."

I've about given up on the current Republican leadership. I think the best thing we could do for most would be to vote them out of office and replace them with some younger, aggressive, articulate, media savvy, and proactive Conservatives. Unfortunately, it's more likely they will be replaced by DIMocrats!

I've been thinking about various ways to offset the lack of Republican leadership and their unwillingness or inability to speak and work the issues. Have you or any other Conservatives here considered organizing "grass roots" groups around the country, keeping them updated and informed on key issues and actions through the Internet, and coordinating efforts to contact members of Congress and others?

We need some individuals who are good at effective and persuasive writing -- sales persons -- who can motivate people and effectively get the message across.

We have noted the irritating difficulties and we're working on it.

Sorry for the screw ups!

Jeremiah,

She can't get the White House - she's Canadian born, so we're safe there. If you read into the report, you'll see that the charges for her plan don't come up until 2009...after she leaves office. This is just her way of saddling the taxpayers with funds for her friends - with all the inconvenience about it left to her successor.

Mark,

I apologize for the mis-understanding there.
I was referring to Hillary Clinton, in response to Keefer's earlier post.

I've about given up on the current Republican leadership.

Ditto, AAR--these guys have no spine, and appear content to be in the minority, which isn't the worst thing in the world, unless they're a "super-minority." The way they're going, we could see that soon. Somebody'd better wake up, or we'll all have what I do here in Maryland...

Good news for all conservatives. Jennifer Granholm can NEVER be President, as she was born in Canada.
That said, there's a reason why I left Michigan other than the emotional BS from my ex, and that is this: Michigan's economy sucked then, and it sucks even worse now! So I won't be going back there.

What is on display in Michigan is the reason that Michigan voters need to complete the job they began in 2006 and wipe the state clean of the last vestiges of Englerism (that would be the Michigan Senate).
Granholm has been forced to cut billions from the state budget since January 2003, when she took office. During her entire administration she has had to deal with blatent political obstructionism that makes Congressional infighting look like a group hug.
The voters of Michigan made it clear that they understand who is the problem (aside from NAFTA and GAFTA -- passed by the GOP, but signed by Bill Clinton) here when they soundly thumped Amway mogul Dick DeVos, giving Granholm a 56.3-42.9 (4.9 percent) election victory and returned the state House to Democratic control (not to mention delivering a thorough spanking to the GOP on the local level, statewide). This is a governor who Trent Wisecup, writing for the NRO, famously predicted would be swept out of office by "socially conservative" Michigan voters -- do you still turn to NRO for analysis of Michigan politics?
As for her supposed "scandals," you will note that no charges have EVER been brought in any of these so-called cases of malfeasance (most of the "charges" were brought by Democratic opponents running against her in the Primary Election). This, despite Michigan having a highly partisan Republican attorny general -- who is more than willing to prosecute Democrats, and wouldn't hesitate to take a shot at the governor if he thought he had a snowball's chance in Las Vegas.
It seems particularly ironic that Mark would have the nerve to discuss Granholm's "corruption" while Jim Gibbons the Republican governor of Nevada would seem to offer plenty of scope for exposing real corruption and cronyism so close to home.
Stand by in 2008, I suspect that Granholm won't have a Republican majority in the Senate to deal with any more -- perhaps with a more enlightened administration in Washington, Michigan may return to prosperity.
Of course we could just sell water to the thirst belt --but then where would we tie up our boats?

As a resident of Michigan, we are bracing for a complete or partial shutdown of the state government effective Monday. Secretary of State offices will be closed - no renewal of driver's licenses or license plates. Suspension of highway construction. Detroit's three casinos will close their doors - the state gaming inspectors will be sent home. State parks will all close, just at the start of the "color change", a significant tourist attraction. A number of school districts will close as they rely on state funding to operate.

I remember back when she was campaigning: "We're going to blow you away!", "You haven't seen nothing yet!". We hadn't. We hadn't seen the continued exodus of companies to more business-friendly states. We have been blown away by reduced funding to counties, cities, and townships.

As for the proposed new State Police HQ, the current HQ is on the campus of Michigan State University, where it has been for decades. Sure the building is old, but so is our Capital Building and you don't see us abandoning it for a new $100,000,000 structure.

Several years ago, there was a proposal to build a combined National Guard HQ/State Police HQ facility. Over 50% of the funding would have been supplied by the Feds (the Feds fund 75% of new National Guard facilities). The State Police opted out of the plan. As a result, the National Guard got a new state-of-the-art facility, and the State Police is still in their leased facility. I guess they chose unwisely.
