Pro-Life Movie Opens Nationwide October 26

Don't forget to check it out - if we want these sorts of movies to be made, we had better suppor them:

Denver, Aug 30, 2007 / 11:12 am (CNA).- Roadside Attractions, an independent film distribution company, has purchased the rights to the movie, “Bella,” the recent winner of the People’s Choice Award at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

“Bella” has captured the hearts of audiences all over the country. Hollywood Reporter describes the movie as a “romantic drama [that] stars Emmy winner Tammy Blanchard as a young single waitress fired from her job right after discovering that she is pregnant. The restaurant's empathetic chef (Mexican star Eduardo Verastegui) follows her around New York for a day, developing a bond that helps each discover truths about themselves and each other.”

"The film is a crowd-pleaser about humanity, family, friendship and the unique magic of New York City," Roadside co-president Eric d'Arbeloff said. " 'Bella' will win the hearts and minds of Latino and mainstream audiences alike, and we hope it finds the same success as previous Toronto People's Choice Award winners 'Life Is Beautiful,' 'Whale Rider,' 'Hotel Rwanda,' 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' and 'American Beauty.' "

Roadside co-president Howard Cohen added, "Eduardo Verastegui gives a star-making turn that has gotten the attention of a whole new audience."

Verastegui is one of the most successful Mexican actors in Hollywood today, has become one of the strongest voices against the legalization of abortion in Mexico City.

Since rediscovering the faith of his parents, he has no fear of public rejection for denouncing the holocaust of abortion. Verastegui has revealed his pro-life convictions to various Mexican media outlets and has created an organization in California to help those in need, especially women who are seeking abortions.

The culture wars won't be won until we believers have the ability to make popular culture products - movies, music, art, etc - which can compete with the nauseating, but well-marketed, trash of Hollywood. Movies like this are a small step in the right direction.

Oh boy, more propaganda.

You know, lots of movies that come out nowadays have a decidedly anti-abortion message. Many of the "unexpected pregnancy" movies feature the leading lady choosing to keep the child (The recent release Knocked Up comes to mind). I guess that some just aren't political about it.

Oh yeah, I'm so gonna see that.
Thankfully, there's a Tarantino film fest playing at the shop.

Well said and absolutely 100% correct.

The Democrats whine and cry about "fairness" for their failed talk shows, while the majority of television and movies have become nothing more than tools for Liberal propaganda and indoctrination!

There's plenty of conservative art gathering dust in museums throughout the world.

Leave the creation of art to those who look forward, not back.

Zero’s right; why should art ennoble man or celebrate our humanity? Why would we want art to commemorate our achievements; lift our spirit: or praise our righteousness? Remind us all that’s good, and right and beautiful in God’s creation?

When in reality art is about shocking the senses; offending; depressing; insulting; demeaning; and degrading our culture. Art, when properly executed by liberals has the ability to debase our very being; appeal to our lowest emotional level; titillate our prurient interests; and coarsen society.

Burn the Louvre, flush the Dutch Masters, give us Crucifix in Urn; confiscate any Capra film, we want: Scanners, The Beast, Syriana and Plan 9 from Outer Space. No more Thomas Aquinas; give us Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health.
Jerk!

Dasein Libsbane-

You've just proven to us all why conservatives rarely ever make for good artists.

The artists that you celebrate today we're themselves degraded by the conservatives of their day. Ironic isn't it? Need I remind you what was said about those artists in their time?

In short, to the conservative, expression in the present is corrupt and hurdling toward disaster, while expression from the past is uplifting and "classic". With your eyes focused on the past you just repeat, repeat, and repeat.

"When in reality art is about shocking the senses; offending; depressing; insulting; demeaning; and degrading our culture. Art, when properly executed by liberals has the ability to debase our very being; appeal to our lowest emotional level; titillate our prurient interests; and coarsen society."

I had to single out this part of your post because it shocked me how much it reminded me of the forward to the exhibition in the Haus der Kunst in Munich in 1937, put on by the Nazi's. It featured Modernist Art of the day with derisive comments similar to yours. Most of those same artists are the greats of 19th and 20th Century Art and their works hang in the great museums of the world today.

Zero,

Yeah, right! Like the Brooklyn Museum of Art's exhibit of a painting of the Virgin Mary splattered with elephant dung and cut-out photos of female body parts from pornographic magazines, and other anti-Christian "art".

We should no longer provide taxpayer funding to support today's "art" (a.k.a. liberal trash). There are more than enough people around to pay for the art exhibits, theaters, and whatever else that's being funded by the taxpayers under the name of "art"! Any shortfalls can be funded from the pockets of Soros and the Hollywood, New York, or big city liberal elite!

It used to be that people recognized art when they saw it -- some better than others -- but all too often today it's hard to distinguish what some label as "art" for something the wind blew together from the local garbage dump or the local porn dealer threw together!

Gee, a kook, watching a kook's films. How nice.

There's plenty of conservative art gathering dust in museums throughout the world.

There's plenty of dead brain cells gathering dust between your ears.

Most of those same artists are the greats of 19th and 20th Century Art and their works hang in the great museums of the world today.

Most of you leftist kooks should hang from gallows throughout the world.

Disclaimer: By stating the above, I was in no way, shape, or form threatening Zeroballs and his fellow kooks. I was merely expressing my opinion and rights under the First Amendment, as was my idol, the Motor City Madman. I am a peace-lovin', lib-despisin' good-old boy who believes in liberty, the liberty we will soon lose under a Donkaroach presidancy...

"There's plenty of conservative art gathering dust in museums throughout the world."

So, where'd you get your MFA, a-hole?

"The artists that you celebrate today were themselves degraded by the conservatives of their day."

Your ignorance knows no bounds.

'So, where'd you get your MFA, a-hole?" -JPL

I received my BFA from The Corcoran School of Art and Design, and then I went on to receive my MFA from Yale.

It's your ignorance that knows no bounds JPL.
Let's take an artist who’s rather innocuous by today's standards like say.... Manet. Everyone agrees, great artist and there's and no one who is shocked by his work today. In general he's considered to be one of "the greats".
Let's take a painting of his like "Olympia", which hangs in the Musee d'Orsay, in Paris
People look at that painting everyday and think that's a "beautiful" and "uplifting" work of art.
For it's day however, it was every bit as "shocking" and "obscene" as Andre Serrano's "Piss Christ" or Chris Ofili's " The Holy Virgin Mary". To put it generously, they called the painting "pornography" and a degradation of the classicism of Ingres. To those who don’t know what that means, I assure you it’s not a compliment.

To the point, Manet was the original "shock artist".

Maybe you and the rest of these "a-holes"should get an MFA before you start commenting on these matters or at least do some research.

Keefer-

Three things...

1. It's " presidency" not "presiDANCY"
2. I'm glad you recognize that Democrats are going to win the presidency in '08 thanks mostly to the horrible job Republicans have been doing in the last 8 years.
3. Ted Nuggent? you couldn't find somebody better to idolize than a coward who posses as a "real man". The guy literal sh!t his pants during his Army physical to get out of going to Vietnam. That's real macho stuff I'll tell you.

Wait, strike that, I think you picked the perfect person to exemplify your qualities.

I'd be interested to hear what you consider to be "great art"
I think almost anything you consider to be "great", you'll find was at one time thought to be "trash".

You got me, Zeroballs--pat yourself on the back.

2. I'm glad you recognize that Democrats are going to win the presidency in '08 thanks mostly to the horrible job Republicans have been doing in the last 8 years.

No, thanks mostly to the fact that the Donkaroach electorate has zero brains, like you, Zeroballs.

3. Ted Nuggent? you couldn't find somebody better to idolize than a coward who posses as a "real man". The guy literal sh!t his pants during his Army physical to get out of going to Vietnam. That's real macho stuff I'll tell you.

Since we're correcting spelling, Zeroballs, it's "Nugent" and "poses." It's awfully courageous to call Ted a coward while you're cowered behind a keyboard, coward.

btw, it's "literally," Zeroballs. We must proofread our work, no?

Posted by: Ted Nugent '08!!! [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 2, 2007 02:46 PM

Zeroballs, you nailed it about Ted avoiding the draft; I'll give you that. Guess what, puke-breath? Back then, I was in high school, very liberal, and very anti-war. I would've supported his antics, had I even known who he was. I would've supported Slicky Blue Dress' antics; he dodged the draft too. Did you know that?

What did you do to avoid it, Zeroballs? Walk into the induction center and give the drill sergeant a "hummer?"

"I went on to receive my MFA from Yale."

I rest my case. I.e., you're an idiot, educated at an idiotic liberal school, like the one I went to, Harvard. Except that you never overcame your idiotic liberal education.

You actually believe that all "conservative art" is gathering dust in museums throughout the world? You're pathetic.

Posted by: JPL [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 3, 2007 07:07 PM

JPL-

A real "Harvard man" would never be so quick to judge.
Case in point, "Except that you never overcame your idiotic liberal education."

Now just admit it, the only way you made it onto the Harvard Campus was you got lost on the tour trying to find "Cheers" right?

You obviously didn't spend one second of your time there in the Fogg. ;-) A real Harvard alum would know what that is without having to use "the google".
LOL ahhhh got to love those Bushism.

As for my "conservative art in the museums" comment, haven't you ever heard of the recipe for how to make a conservative? Take a liberal and lock him in a room for 25 years and don't let him change his mind, or his opinions, or challenge himself, or let him learn anything new. After 20 years let him out ...Ta-Dah!!! You have a freshly baked conservative.

Almost all liberal or "radical" ideas, if they have any validity, will eventually make their way into the broader society to become widely accepted and thusly become "conservative" verses "progressive" which is where true “in the moment” creativity resides. It's very likely that one day Serrano and Ofili will be as prized as Manet is today.

The term "Conservative art" is as oxymoronic an idea as is Conservative comedy . That show the 1/2 Hour News Hour was painfully boring to watch and I'm glad to see Fox came to it's senses and pulled it. Do you know what that means? Not even conservatives could stand to look at that stink bomb for another second. lol
