Quote of the Day: President Bush

From MSNBC

Mr Putin explained he had proposed the use of a former Soviet radar base in Azerbaijan as an alternative to the controversial missile defence facilities the US is planning to build in central Europe.

The offer raised the prospect of unprecedented military co-operation between the US and Russia and provided a potential solution to their bitter dispute over missile defence. But after the two leaders finished their news conference, it was obvious the proposal had caught the US by surprise.

Stephen Hadley, US national security adviser, huddled with other senior White House aides before briefing reporters about the Russian plan. "It is a bold proposal. We have to have our experts look at it."

And the quote of the day belongs to President Bush:

"There are a lot of people who do not like it when the US and Russia argue and it creates tensions," said Mr Bush. "It's much better to work together."

Excellent, Mr. Bush. We need to hear more of that kind of talk. There is nothing lost by having co-operation and good will between nations. Keep up the peaceful dialogue and spread it around.

Ralph Peters has an interesting take on the relationship between President Bush and Putin.

Nice idea, Vlad, but you and Dubya just might want to get some input from the Azerbaijanis.

Remember Canadian Observor, it is because Bush stuck to his guns and didn't allow the Russians to bully him (just like Reagan), that we got what was best. Might not be the same location but if all is Kosher, we've got our missle shield. If he'd been a democrat, he would've cowtowed immediately at the very thought of upsetting the WORLD COMMUNITY (who feels so embarrassed when the big bully, U.S. flexes it's muscles). --This is like when Reagan FORCED Gorbachev to embrace glasnost, but TIME magazine made GORBACHEV it's 'Man of the Year'. -- This if further proof of what many conservatives believe that in time (maybe 20 years from now), Bush will be remembered as fondly as Reagan. Yet he is still greatly 'misunderstimated' in his own time (just like Reagan).

somewhat off-topic but remember when the moderator asked the gop candidates what, if anything, they would consider using W for after his term?

CO, the reason is the Russians are open to reason. Islamic extremists are not.

babykillingliberal - Did you think that made sense or something?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 8, 2007 04:58 PM

that is kind of the point.

"There are a lot of people who do not like it when the US and Russia argue and it creates tensions," said Mr Bush. "It's much better to work together."

I assume the irony is lost on the author of this post.

These are the same people who have been fighting efforts to resume diplomacy with nations like Iran and Syria.

I just love this...

Bush says, "There are a lot of people who do not like it when the US and Russia argue and it creates tensions," said Mr Bush. "It's much better to work together."

And the article says, "But after the two leaders finished their news conference, it was obvious the proposal had caught the US by surprise."

If they had really been talking and working together it wouldn't have come as a surprise, huh? I wonder what other surprises he could prevent if he actually talked to people.

It's a TRAP!

Putin is the man who for the last 5 years has funded the secret development of a new ICBM capable of carrying multiple warheads and penetrating all known anti missile systems. He did this in retalition to our backing out of the ABM treaty.

If there wasn't scheming afoot, probably to minimize or even destroy American power in the region, he would have proposed cooperation sometime in the last 5 years.

Not, as has happened, after shoving a warm gun in our face and saying we're asking for it.

This is the time to show the resolve and character that Bush stands for. Putin is attempting to strongarm Bush into giving Russia access and control to our missile defense systems and technology. We cannot capitulate to Putin's scheming!

Bush said himself - he looked into Putin's eyes and saw the man's soul

after such an experience how could Putin do anything to surprise Bush -LOL
