I got my iPhone this weekend. How many of you got one?
To answer a few questions. No, I didn't wait all day Friday in line to get one. I got it this morning and after making the final decision, the process took minutes.
Yes, I love it. Set up was a cinch. I had an existing plan with AT&T/Cingular, and activation was very quick.
No, I'm not blogging from the iPhone yet. But that will come.
As for all other questions... Ask away if you are contemplating getting one, or share your experiences here if you got one.

Matt,
So how does it work? Is it as cool as it looks in the ads? This is the first cell phone I've ever thought about getting, mainly because it would be like having a minimac with me.

I know the iPod had a sealed battery that only has a lifespan of 13 months. To replace the battery you have to mail it to Apple with a check for $65.00 and wait weeks to get it back.
It was planned this way so people will just go out and buy a new updated iPod. The old iPods become garbage unless recycled.
I have not seen an iPhone. Does it have a sealed case and a 13-month battery too?

I'm kind of wary of the iPhone... it seems to me that the more a phone/mp3/web browser does, the more that can go wrong with it... Hell, I still have my 3-4 year old iPod and a moto RZR... they work fine for me.

$600? Who needs it? I watch movies on my 70 inch HD TV, not on a screen the size of my palm. And it pretty big for a cell phone. Don't you feel like Mr. Spock beaming down with a tricorder in hand?
Posted by: Kahn at July 1, 2007 02:17 AM
The iPhone is smaller than a tricorder. Also, could Mr.Spock rock out to a Klingon Opera with a tricorder?? I think not. /heh.
:)
Kahhhhhnnnnnnnnn!
OT/ "Live Free or Die Hard" was AMAZING! It was a lot of fun! Great summer movie!

That's because Bruce Willis is one of the good guys of Hollywood.
Aitch, why bother with your childish posts? Have you nothing better to do?

Yeah, Bruce Willis is the only non phsychotic Hollywood leftist I know of. That must make him a right wing extremeist out there.
Anyway, I watched the 20 min movie on Apples website, and I must say the iPhone has to be the coolest electronic device ever made. That thing is unbeliveable. If they only made one for Nextel, I might have bought it. I will be crossing my fingers.

I wonder how fast the internet is. I had a tmobile and it was like dialup. I have sprint and it is five times as fast as tmobile was when the signal is bad. TMobile uses EDGE. Sprint uses EV-DO. AT&T uses EDGE. Does that mean the internet browsing is like dialup or is it considerably faster like Sprint?
Anyone?

EDGE has download speeds at about 135kb per second. I have used it quite a bit with a laptop card, and, while it pales in comparison to broadband, it does well.

There is a photo on Drudge of a twenty-something defiantly raising his shopping bag in the sky with a shout of triumph...having been one of the first to score an Ipod.
BFD!!!
This is one of the highlights in the empty lives of our overprotected, overfed, overindulged youth!??
Reality TV, American Idol, MTV, the latest electronic fad and pop culture in general have become far too important in our society. Is it any wonder why we are loosing our competitive advantage??

Palm has the Treo 755p out. While the Palm OS is very dated, it does do some things the iPhone does not currently do, including: use removable media for MP3 and DVD rips (up to 4 GB mini SD card), record video (not just still images like the iphone), read and edit MS office documents, use faster EVDO network for data (EDGE is a bit like dialup), add third party applications without certification, listen to stereo wireless bluetooth using a third party application http://www.softick.com/bluetooth-audio/ , change out the battery, and type on a real keyboard.
Sadly, it does not include GPS, WiFi, or bluetooth newwork access (for your laptop). But you can get a WiFi "sled" and a GPS SD card.
I don't see the hype of the iphone other than the interface.

Well, from my time playing with it, it is pretty sweet for the non business user. The Safari browser is pretty sweet, as is the photo book and music player. Sound is pretty good.
The on screen typing is pretty easy, despite the small size. I make about as many mistakes as I do with my Blackjack and my Crackberry.
WiFi and email set up is a snap, and easy to read. Visual Vmail is pretty cool as well.
For business users, you are best off with a regular windows based PDA or blackberry.

It's no wonder at all, phnx. The dumbed-down youth, along with the Dr. Retard's, are bringing this country down fast.
However, I must confess, phnx, that I enjoy watching American Idol, especially during the early auditions, and Hell's Kitchen. But I don't let it get in the way of what the important issues are. And I don't let it get in the way of showing my "love" for Dr. Retard...

keefer, we finally found something that we can agree on, namely that Hell's Kitchen is a fun tv show to watch.
On to the iPhone, I think that it's worth noting that the big launch was a bit of a failure. They were expecting all of the phones to sell out, and then by sunday, 84% or so of the stores that carried the phone still had them in stock.
Apple Stock (AAPL) has been trending upwards for the last few months in anticipation of the release, and the actual release has apparently stopped that trend dead in its tracks (it still hasn't been able to maintain above its Friday opening price. It looks like it's gonna become bearish...
