Cheney Tops Reid in Approval Ratings...

Harry Reid once famously stated, "“I’m not going to get into a name-calling match with somebody who has a 9 percent approval rating,” Other than the fact that Mr. Reid was engaging in hyperbole, the facts of today strongly suggest that it should be Cheney who shouldn't lower himself to engage with Reid. Specifically, according to a poll reported on by the Wall Street Journal, Vice President Dick Cheney currently has a 28 percent positive approval rating.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid's approval rating?

22 percent.

Some saying about stones and glass houses comes to mind here, don't you think?

22%? Did he get a boost today? Rasmussen had him at 19% last night ;-)

Let me get this straight. You are bragging about a 28% approval rating? It just goes to show how little reguard politicians from both parties have.

Posted by: Casper [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 11, 2007 09:31 PM

Well, casper, when you are right you are right. I'd ask "how low can it go before people make major changes?", but all of us here know that

1. we really do not have better choices, and the folks in both parties know they have us over a barrel

2. most Americans are only superficially involved in politics, and do not truly understand the issues, just what the media feeds them

3. well, can't think of a three, as those seem to cover it ;)

Posted by: William Teach [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 11, 2007 09:39 PM

Let's see, Bush is at 35% at Rasmussen. Should we make plans for a party?

Posted by: Casper [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 11, 2007 09:45 PM

Teach,
I would like to think that we deserve better, and there are some out there that would do abetter job.

Posted by: Casper [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 11, 2007 09:47 PM

If he would stop with the amnesty talk, he would immediately jump up into the mid 40's, I would bet, as COnservatives would start to give him good marks. It is one of three things that drive us crazy.

The difference between Harry Reid and Dick Cheney is that Dick Cheney can get a job after his term. Harry Ried is a corrupt institutionalized politician who got lucky with demograpics in Nv

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid's approval rating - 22%.

Bwahahahahaha!!!
:)

Posted by: Freedom1 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2007 12:37 AM

yes - almost everyone in government is unpopular. I can't believe you consider it a victory that only 28% of Americans approve of the vice president. Only a partisan hack would think its a victory that someone else is even more disliked. Why don't you get it - its sad for America that ALL politicians are like this..

Posted by: kblack77 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2007 03:38 AM

No body said it was a vistory. It's irony. Reid said he wouldnt speak to someone with such a low rating, then he manges to get a LOWER rating himself! That is irony.

Posted by: jbiccum [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2007 07:39 AM

kb, so you must REALLY think that 22% sucks. I mean - if 28% is bad, then 22% is worse right? Willing to admit that math exists?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2007 08:10 AM

truman's approval rating was 25% and time ran his face on the cover asking which candidate was going to be the next truman.

history has been good to truman. and will be good to pres. bush as well.

right now what we have here is the left, who will not approve of bush for anything, even when he acts like a lib, which is why his rating dips among gop-ers.

harry reid and congress' rating is so low because they are an inept bunch of dolts. they proclaim that they were given a mandate by the american people to end the war, and are useless to do it.

i.e. they really don't want to stop the war because they know it will be the end of the donk party as we know it. so they'll just keep blaming pres. bush for it until he leaves office.

so we have the right (my side) upset about being to liberal on some things and the left upset that their side can't end a war. so now nobody is happy with government. guess what, the more the government stays out of your life the better off you will be.

Posted by: Falgore [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2007 11:57 AM

of course 22% is worse than 28% thats just a tautology. The point I am making is that Leo is very pleased that the senator has such a low rating. only someone obsessed with partisan politics is happy to see that. Look - my statement is simple - its a horrible situation that the president and congress are so bad that they have approval ratings less than 30%. It wouldn't make me any happier if Bush has 18% just so that it was lower than Reid's and it shouldn't make you happy that Reid's is so low either. Its a sad state.

And Falgore - thats just great - Bush's low approval rating is because he is such a bad president. He shouldn't even be discussed in the same thought as Harry Truman. Its quite amusing how you can justify that Bush's rating is inconsequential while Reid's is an indication of deep incompetence.

Don't you guys get it. They ALL suck - regardless if they choose to wear red or blue. And te American people are paying for it

Posted by: kblack77 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2007 01:05 PM

Kblech, oh so it takes reid to be at 22% for you to be magnanimous and spread criticisms to all corners of your padded cell? Your bipartisan comments would carry more weight if you weren't so reliably anti-Bush and anti-GOP.

How stupid must you be not to perceive the irony of Reid's current standing? We are not overjoyed with his low rating. I mean come on, do we have to spell it out?

This guy shouts from the highest rooftop that the american public voted for change and gave his party a mandate for reform. Less than SIX months after assuming majority control of the Senate his approval rating is lower than Bush?

Irony meet KBlech, KBlech meet Irony.

look - sure I am anti-Bush. I am also anti-Democrat. They are all too conservative for me. So please stop accusing me of talking about the wonders of the democrats - I don't. You see a lot of anti-Bush comments here and not democrats because this is a BUSH BLOG.

Perhaps it's worth noting that to get a fuller understanding in the numbers in any poll, both approval ratings and disapproval ratings must be considered. Additionally, one problem I have with the Harris poll in particular is the fact that they put the "fair" rating in the "disapprove" category. I've never been comfortable with that. I'm inclined to regard "fair" as a middle-ground word, indicating that a person doesn't feel strongly one way or the other.

And if you were to go up to, say, Polingreport.com and compare the polls from various sources, it appears that other people think the same way as I: in polls where a clear distinction is made between "approve" and "disapprove", the "approve" numbers are almost certain to be higher than in polls that group the "fair" response in with the "disapprove" category.

Posted by: Ricorun [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 12, 2007 06:27 PM

Don't these low poll ratings just mean they both suck?

So your guy sucks a little less. Wow, how proud you must be.
