White House Press Secretary Tony Snow Statement --Yolanda Denise King

Office of Public Liaison

The President and Mrs. Bush mourn the passing of Yolanda Denise King, the eldest child of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King. She devoted her life to furthering human rights and peace, and was a seasoned and respected actress who used her talents to champion social change and equal rights. Our thoughts are with the King family today.

When I was in high school I used to work at a small grocery store across the street from Smith College. I remember bagging Miss Kings groceries on occaision. Groceries, well typical college girl stuff. She was nice. Too bad she died so young.

Rest in peace, Miss King; you were part of a great family who helped make America an even greater nation.

CNN has this report.

The King family will be in my prayers.
