Putting lipstick on a pig...
Everything the democrats do is a political calculation; aimed not at bettering our nation, but rather at maintaining their tenuous grip on power.
Russ "I support the troops by making them surrender!" Feingold's measure to cut our soldiers off at the knees by March 31, 2008 failed in the U.S. Senate by a 67 to 29 margin, with no republicans voting for the bill, and 19 democrats voting with the Republicans.
The cowards couldn't even be up front with what they wanted to do, as the measure was couched in "...an unrelated water-projects bill."
Curiously enough, Donk Presidential wannabees Hillary and Obama voted FOR the measure.
Given the original premise of this piece, I firmly believe this was no serendipitous measure casually slipped in by the ever-whacked out Russ Feingold.
This was orchestrated from the top.
This ex-lax move had all the markings of a coldly calculated ploy designed to accomplish a number of objectives.
The prime objective of this exercise, IMO, was to give the two main Donk presidential candidates cover with their whacko-left base; ostensibly by cutting our troops off at the knees.
For it is the whacko lefties who they will have to mollify if they expect to get the '08 nomination.
The second objective was to do so without leaving the entire party looking like a collection of jackass losers to moderate rank-and-file democrats and swing voters.
Time will tell if this was a successful ploy; but my guess is that anyone in the American electorate with an IQ surpassing a toaster should be able to see right through this sham.
You know, if the democrats choose to seek advantage by engaging in blatant political posturing with domestic agenda items, so be it.
That is politics.
But they are choosing to do so with policies that directly and deleteriously affect those making the sacrifice to serve in harm's way during wartime.
That, dear readers, is treason.

The Senate doesn't control the money. All Nancy PMS has to do is not let a funding bill make it to the floor in the House. Thats it. No vote. No veto. Just her and the consequences.

In the simplest terms this is why the GOP will lose their little war in Iraq and the American people will no longer be cowed by "Long War" or the Global War on Terror fallacy. Nothing is being sacrificed on the home front for one because the GOP and those for whom they work know that causing lifestyle discomfort for Americans is political suicide.
Given the choice between actually generating enough fresh trained American soldiers and cutting of the funding for the war every member of the GOP in the House knows they would vote for bringing the troops home. Their alternative would be extending the war for another ten years and reinstituting the draft for all able bodied men between the ages of 17 and 39. This would give you a pool of 60 million eligible soldiers, sailors and airmen to choose from. The US military could be tripled in size in one year. This coupled with a floundering Ford Motor Company being converted to producing Humvees and hardened troop transports on a round the clock schedule could even in the most pessimistic minds here turn the tide toward the counterinsurgency. Unless, the GOP is willing to scale back the economy of consumerism at all cost, which would certainly anger the average voter be he evangelical or not, the last time I checked evangelicals were conspicuous consumers as well, there is no way to achieve anything coming close to victory. What the political Right Wing wishes to do is to save face. That comes at the cost of the nearly 3500 soldiers dead and millions of Iraqis who have had their lives destroyed by death, raging sectarian violence in this civil war or displacement. All this done to maintain your comfort in America’s land of plenty from my perch does not seem worth the costs. Bring the troops home, engage Iran diplomatically and start to tell your people that their world is going to become a much more violent place. The only way al Qaeda or any other terror group can destroy America is if neocons continue to tell Americans that they are frightened sheep ripe for slaughtering. The WW2 generation would have spit in the eye of anyone who wanted to blow up anything in America and in this I can see some of the weakness of a society moving in a more progressive direction. Still I must also take the conservatives to task who have played on the fears of common citizens to build themselves up with political power. Where does such a thing end with Americans running for their lives in the streets creating a chaos such that you can suspend individual rights? What exactly was the goal of a permanent majority run by neocons who were the Communists of old dressed up in three piece suits carrying Bibles? Who would have filled the death camps of the neocons?

So, you're saying that the Islamic Jihadists are killing each other because they're poor and feel hopelessness? Mind you, they kill each other at a far accelerated rate than they do others. Also, considering your demented logic, they must be killing the nightclubbers in Jakarta and the school children in Beslin Russia because they feel underprivileged. Those poor dears.
Lets for a moment examine the "intelligence" that led The United States and England (primarily) into Iraq as a conquering force that has so far failed to conquer. (And, again I ask, is conquering REALLY the smart answer? No, it is not.)- mdebde
Let's do consider that intelligence shall we? That intelligence emanated from the CIA and the director, Mr. George Tenet, appointed by boy wonder Mr. Billy Clinton, who used that same intelligence to determine that the Sudan Aspirin factory was the place to bomb and, along with Mr. Janet Reno, determined that killing women and children in Waco was the best course of action to take following an indictment on a small weapons charge.

I didn't mean intelligence in the sense of facts, I meant intelligence in the sense of smarts, intellect and the ability to critically think things through. A trait that is sadly lacking in your dear leader. You are not a conservative Neocon, at least not in the traditional sense. No, you are an authoritarian and as such there is no rebuttal because you are impervious to facts. If you were a conservative, you would be as outraged as the majority of Americans are over the incompetence, deciet and probable criminality of the Bush administration. Is the curtailment of civil rights something that you defend? Is the mismanagement of Iraq a sign of sober minded clear thinking? Is the AG situation indicitive of the defense of the impartiality? How about the response to Katrina or Terri Schiavo? How come so many conservatives have come out against Bush? Can they all be wrong? No, they are not. They see that Bush has done all he can to essentially subvert the constitution (which he called just a piece of paper) alienated most of the world and created a far worse problem in the middle east than existed before. If you want to see what level headed conservatives think go to Conservatives Betrayed or Andrew Sullivan or The American Prospect or even the Cato institute. You might change your mind.

Oh okay, I get it, so cutting funding for the troops, which would force them to come home and be OUT of danger's way, is treason, while Bush lying to the entire world about our reasons for invading Iraq and getting us stuck in the middle of a civil war isn't? Make's perfect sense, of course.
I also love how I read the comments rules which say no slander or libel about people, yet almost every comment is mainly name-calling the Democrats. I don't agree with almost all of the Democrats but atleast I have enough dignity to talk about them respectfully instead of resorting to unintelligent schoolyard insults.
Why does Clinton need to be brought into every single debate? What does Bill Clinton have ANYTHING to do with this debate? Nothing, at all. You seem to be forgetting that many people, such as Joseph Wilson, told Bush BEFOREHAND that the claims of WMDs in Iraq was nonsense, and what happened? His wife was just conveniently outed as a CIA spy by Rove & his cronies, endangering her life and anyone connected to her---THAT is treason, not trying to change a policy that has proven to be incredibly inept and makes no sense whatsoever, as our current Iraq policy doesn't.

Hey Colon, let's do some very minor mental gymnastics okay? Suppose you tell me something, like the price of rice in China is $3/pound. I then ask my trusted friends/co-workers who are experts on China and rice production and they agree that rice is indeed $3/pound. I then get on the phone and check with more friends around the world who also tell me that rice is $3/pound.
Are you suggesting that if I then tell my mother, based on all prevailing opinions, that rice is $3/pound that I am lying to her if we later find out that rice is only $2/pound?
Wholly crap batman, that is a pretty strong litmus test for telling the truth. The only difference here is not the price of rice but the fate of the Western World. But hey, if they aren't democRATS who gives a toss right?
