A Victory for Life in Oklahoma

Hey, pro-abortion fanatics, that "chip chip chip" you hear is Roe slowly being eaten away...one day, you're going to have to go before the American people and ask them to vote to keep abortion legal, and that is when you will finally be crushed.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - A bill prohibiting public funds from being used for most abortions has become law in Oklahoma after a deadline passed for the state's governor to veto the measure.

"If the governor doesn't act, it becomes law," said his spokesman, Phil Bacharach. Gov. Brad Henry had until midnight on Wednesday night to veto the bill.

Henry, a Democrat, vetoed a previous bill that contained no exceptions for publicly funded abortions even in cases of rape or incest. The new version allows such an exception if the victim reports the crime to the police.

It easily passed the Republican-controlled House and got through the evenly divided state Senate with several votes from Democratic lawmakers...

..."Virtually every hospital in the state of Oklahoma will no longer be allowed to do it. If you live in rural Oklahoma, your hospital probably receives state funding," said Linda Gray Murphy, a lobbyist with the National Association of Social Workers, who worked to the defeat the legislation.

One wonders why social workers think abortion something worthwhile, but when you check their mission statement:

...NASW advocates a full range of services to children and families from primary prevention to rehabilitation across the life cycle.

its easy to see: "primary prevention" must include the prevention of children being born. That is a way to reduce social worker caseloads, after all...I guess "life cycle" doesn't include that first nine months.

At any event, congratulations to Oklahoma for standing up to that barbarism we know as legal abortion.

By opening your post with this, you make quite clear what really interests you about the abortion debate - crushing liberals. What was that you were saying about pride a few posts ago? You've clearly got a real chip on your shoulder...

Wow, Mark, you've sunk to a new low: trashing social workers. These people work, for very little money, to help the poorest and weakest among us. In that job, they routinely see teen pregnancy, rape, incest, and just plain dumb decisions. Given that experience, its no wonder that they support better access to "primary prevention" (also known as birth control) and yes, even abortion.

Feel free to disagree with their views, but try to show a little of that compassion you often brag about and acknowledge that social workers have a heartbreaking, difficult job. We all can't be insurance claim adjusters, can we?

I am from Oklahoma and am glad this bill has become law. No longer do tax payers have to pay for abortions. However, I do believe that women will get abortions even if it is no longer legal. So if Roe v Wade is overturned, we will return to back alley abortions. What we need is better education on how to prevent pregnancy in the first place. Realistically, absentess does not work. We need to be adults and face the realism of this issue.

Mark-

Actually, almost everyone in America supported military action in Afghanistan, which, if I'm not mistaken, was after World War II. There goes another "premise" of your argument.

I could be because the people who attacked us actually were from Afghanistan... You know, like how they weren't in Iraq...

Since Mark used the word 'fanatic' to describe the majority of American's who are pro-choice (including myself), It's only fair to remind him what the word means. According to Webster's dictionary, a fanatic is someone "marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion". Hmmmm..... Seems like someone is projecting...

Thank God.

Mark, just so you know, we're not necessarily pro-ABORTION, just pro-CHOICE.

We may never choose to have an abortion, but we still realize that it is at some point necessary, in some cases...

That's the difference between the two...

CAIndie,

Nice try, but I'm not buying...you see, the pro-abortion fanatics are those who oppose the ban on late term abortions, who oppose parental notification laws, who oppose waiting periods and full disclosure.

I know that a majority does not, at this point, want to ban abortion...but there isn't even 20% in favor of the abortion position held by, say the Democratic Party or NARAL.

extra,

Elective abortion is something straight out of the pit of Hell...so, yes, I want those who advocate it to be crushed at the polls.

steve,

Lets just say that anyone who thinks that killing a child is a valid answer to a problem drops a lot in my estimation of their character.

Mark,
I too am anti-abortion.
But I am curious. if you are so pro-family and have castigated people for only having one child or not having children at all....
Why are you and your wife refusing to have children together?
Do you enjoy just raising another man's seed?
Its a shame. You are going to die without knowing the true joy that God gives you raising your own flesh and blood.
You may publish a book and make lots of money doing it. But I have 3 wonderful children and a gaggle of grand kids that are my own flesh and blood.
I wonder who is more blessed...me or you?
;)
