Victor Davis Hanson Had a Dream

And part of it went thusly:

In this apparition of mine, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, in Syria at the time, would lecture the Assad regime that there would be consequences to its serial murdering of democratic reformers in Lebanon, to fomenting war with Israel by means of its surrogates, and to sending terrorists to destroy the nascent constitutional government in Iraq.

She would add that the United States could never be friends with an illegitimate dictatorship that does its best to destroy the only three democracies in the region. And then our speaker would explain to Iran that a U.S. Congresswoman would never detour to Tehran to dialogue with a renegade government that had utterly ignored U.N. non-proliferation mandates and daily had the blood of Americans on its hands.

Fellow Democrats like John Kerry, Barbara Boxer, and Harry Reid would add that, as defenders of the liberal tradition of the West, they were not about to call a retreat before extremist killers who behead and kidnap, who blow up children and threaten female reformers and religious minorities, and who have begun using poison gas, all in an effort to annihilate voices of tolerance in Iraq.

And then Mr. Hanson woke up, and realised that he lives in a west where a very large proportion of the population is so sunk in wealth and sloth that they will put up with just about anything as long as they can enjoy their wealth undisturbed for just one more day. A west that takes the path of least resistence, and if that means we abandon the Iraqi people and cut deals with tyrants in Damascus and Tehran, then so be it...and can we please get back to our American Idol?

We are a large nation - 300 million strong. Only two nations on earth have more people than we do, India and China. In such a large and diverse population, you will find every conceivable point of view expressed in some manner. Fortunately, there are still very many people who are real people - people who love life, but also have a disdain for death; who enjoy their wealth and ease, but are willing to throw it away at a moment's notice without even a twinge of regret. This is why, even with the war being unpopular, we are having no trouble finding recruits for a military which is engaged in heavy battle - that part of the population which retains the eternal verities is large enough to carry the load for the whole population. And carry it we will, right on to victory.

Pay no real heed to the cold and the cowardly who, by turns, attack us for what we do and believe. Pity is the proper frame of mind to have about them - pity coupled with a desire to keep at them, in the hopes that some of them, at least, will come to understand what being a human is all about. It is sad to think of the wasted talent and potential residing in people who think surrender in Iraq is a good thing, or that there is a point to making deals with tyrants. We will press on.

What are you talking about? Seriously.

Yep - thats right - if we believe in science, disagree with the war, believe in global warming, or want universal health care clearly we must love death and hate america..

Come back to reality Mark, seriously - calm down and then post something that makes sense

Posted by: kblack77 [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 01:09 AM

Unfortunetly kblack Mark is talking about reality. The reality where folks inore the dangers of Islam, Syria, and Iran. The reality where we turn our backs on those we've helped, whether rightly or wrongly in the first place.

We live in a dangerous world and more and more folks don't want to face that danger, but would rather "stay at home" and hope it doesn't come here. Or if it does come here it doesn't hit anyone they know.

Posted by: Gozer [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 01:51 AM

Gozer,

Thanks - couldn't say it better, myself.

Kblack,

You misunderstand - you fear death; we don't.

As for hating America - I'm willing to concede that for a great many on the left, it is actually hatred of President Bush...but even that is poisonous. I don't even hate bin Laden - I hate no one, as a matter of fact (or, at least, I make a sustained effort to kill all feelings of hatred, all desire for revenge).

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 02:35 AM

As can be seen by the actions of the left, hatred blurs the mind and blinds one to the real dangers they face.

Fear causes one to assume the childish position of simply pulling the covers over their head and hoping things turn out okay. It also causes one to try to appease those who wish to destroy you in hopes they change their minds.

Better to face your fear, put your hate aside and focus your energy on defeating the enemy who is out to destroy you.

A west that takes the path of least resistence, and if that means we abandon the Iraqi people…..Posted by Mark Noonan at April 15, 2007 12:50 AM

What a hoot! This is one of the most far fetched threads I have yet to read on B4B. You are going try and make me believe one of the goals of the Republican Party is to help the Iraqi people find their way in this world. Ronald Reagan just turned over at least three times. This from party that has Ann Coulter as their spokesman to spread the line…”We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.”

On a related subject can any of you tell me what Rep. Robert Aderholt’s (R-AL) and Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) were doing in Syria the week before Pelosi visit? Looking for vacation property? Or what was Rep. David Hobson (R-OH) doing by sitting in on meetings in Syria with Nancy Pelosi?

Posted by: Josh Keaton at April 15, 2007 08:51 AM

Let me get this straight:

The Republicans decide to invade and occupy a foreign country that was no threat to us or its neighbors, topple their government and install one they like better, while killing thousands of it's citizens, and if anyone objects to this course of action, why, clearly they are "hate-filled"...

Again, how can you stand to think that way? How do you live with yourself?

True, Lew, but for the left, it's easier to bury your head in the sand, negotiate with the tyrants, and postpone the inevitable(sp). That is to say, what's a devastating terrorist attack every ten years or so, anyway? Sh*t happens, right? As long as it doesn't happen to them directly, everything's fine. And their buds at the DBM can just ignore the tyrannical behaviour while they're in power, right?

We live in a dangerous world

Posted by: Gozer at April 15, 2007 01:51 AM

Yes, Gozer, we most certainly do. Unfortunately, with the invasion and occupation of Iraq, it has become even more dangerous and no matter how you try to sugarcoat it, those, my friend, are the facts.

Yes, Gozer, what's wrong with you? We should just sit idly by while the tyrants of the world are killing and raping their own people. After all, it's their own people. Where we really need to be is the Sudan, where tyrants are, uh, killing and raping their own people.

navydad,

OT, but I just left posts in two older threads--the surge thread, and the creation thread--that you may enjoy. raker13 and tom Al-jeffie probably won't enjoy them, but screw 'em...

Keefer...read all of them. What a couple of misfits!

Keefer states:
"True, Lew, but for the left, it's easier to bury your head in the sand, negotiate with the tyrants, and postpone the inevitable"

I've come to the conclusion, and oh so brilliantly I might add, that the left believes the "inevitable" is anything but war, anything but GWB in the WH, anything but tightenting the screws on Iran, NK or Syria, anything but taking personal responsibility, anything but accepting the GWOT, anything but the fact that here exists a clear, present and dangerous threat to all mankind, not just to Iraqis, that needs to be dealt with.

No, it's apparent that the left's hatred for Bush clouds their judgement (what little is left) when it comes to the "inevitable".

Hell, even Tony Zinni admitted to Tim Russert this AM, that placing a timeline on leaving Iraq is a "bad" idea, and that if we leave too soon, we'll effectively destroy the middle east. Just paraphrasing, but close enough.

So lefties, now that most conservatives have admittedly recognized the mistakes with this war, and your ace-in-the-hole, Tony Zinni has confirmed GWB's present stance on Iraq; who or what will your next target be to defend your cut-n-run proposal...hmmmm?

kblack77,

We know that you, and all of your Liberal/Democrat friends, believe in Global Warming. That is but one book and chapter in your religion of Liberalism... as taught by one of your priests, Al Gore'em, leader of the Gorian Sect and Branch of your church (sometimes referred to as the Algorians)!

A little off topic, but speaking of coming back to reality, have you heard of the "Perfect Solar Storm", the REAL probability and likelihood of that happening -- AT ANYTIME -- and the REAL threats it poses on the United States and the entire world? That is a REAL THREAT that could affect TODAY's AMERICANS at ANYTIME. Talk about pending DISASTER!!!

I don't hear Democrats (Liberals) running around crying "the sky is falling" about that looming disaster!!! Perhaps because it involves changes in solar output and radiation -- a fact that Democrats (Liberals) find inconvenient!

So the Left fears death, but the Right doesn't??

Why is it, then, that those who live in the places most likely to be attacked by terrorists (e.g., NYC, DC, LA, Chicago, etc.) overwhelmingly vote Democratic? Conversely, why do those in fly-over country, who are unlikely to ever deal with a terrorist attack, overwhelmingly vote for Republicans?

Are all of us city dwellers just stupid? I don't think so, we do control the economic, educational, and cultural centers of the greatest country on Earth.

Maybe we're just naive? Nope, crime, poverty, and desperation are all higher in cities, so we're very aware of the dark side of humanity.

So what is it, Mark? Please enlighten us on why the Left is weak while the Right is tough.

On a related subject can any of you tell me what Rep. Robert Aderholt’s (R-AL) and Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) were doing in Syria the week before Pelosi visit?

I thought the left loved the adage "two wrongs don't make a right."

Still, the three added together do not equal a Speaker of the House, third in line for the presidency.

But, since you ask; from the Damascus Al-Watan April 2, 2007 issue, the 3 said, "During all our meetings, we raised the need to prevent foreign fighters who kill innocent American and Iraqi soldiers from entering Iraq via Syria and the need to halt support for Hizballah and HAMAS and to recognize Israel's right to exist in peace and security and to stop interference in Lebanon."

Another article in Al-Watan by Thana al-Imam says: "The statement that three US Republican Congressmen issued at the end of a visit to Damascus was something like a slap in the face of the hoped-for dialogue between Syria and the United States," adding, "[the American statement] contained no reference to the need to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region and strongly supported President George Bush's strategy in Iraq."

While it does not excuse an unsanctioned trip by the trio, contrast the above to Pelosi's statement, "Our message was President Bush's message," and, "The funny thing is, I think we may have even had a more powerful impact with our message because of the attention that was called to our trip," she said. "It became clear to President Assad that even though we have our differences in the United States, there is no division between the president and the Congress and the Democrats on the message we wanted him to receive."

Apparently her sidekick, Tom Lantos did not receive the talking points memo as after he declared, "We have an alternative Democratic foreign policy," he is quoted in a Syrian press article as saying, "The visit expressed in a marvelous way interests of the US, that led to embarrassment of the current US administration ... "

An attempt at damage control led Lantos to state, "The notion that members visiting Syria and having discussions (is) a unique Democratic strategy to undermine the Republican administration is absurd on it face."

Was there a particular reason we weren't told Henry Waxman was part of her unauthorized delegation?

Dream on Victor. As this board demonstrates, the only Defense the Left has is a WHITE FLAG ! Canada and EurArabia, goodbye to Freedom, welcome Sharia! Wave those flags! And enjoy.

"Are all of us city dwellers just stupid?"

Posted by none other than steveGA.

No steve, I don't believe that the left is "stupid" or "fears" death at all, well maybe some are/do. I believe they fear differently than we conservatives...that's all.

However, in smaller community life comes a greater desire for commonalities and altruisms (a survival instinct that requires more thought and work to achieve) that bond philosophies and religions. It just so happens that cities such as SF, LA or NYC (I've never been to NYC) for that matter attract liberal minds and lifestyles (it goes way back and is too long to expound upon but the exact opposite of small town living) that are condusive to liberal lifestyles, i.e., easier access. I'm not saying it's this way in every city, just most that I've been to. Personally I've been to 28 states and most major cities in those states, so I've seen both sides.

Let's take SF, as an example: Everyone has heard that SF is liberal and the local government has a hatred for our military and conservatives. Well, being conservative, I looked for towns that were more conservative than what I was accustomed to in Southern California. It just so happens that my moral, religous and political beliefs are similar to those of my new friends in my new community so I'm more comfortable here.

But one thing I wasn't quite prepared for was the inherent dislike of minorities that runs rampant in many small towns, which is also passed on as a generational disease....in my humble opinion.

Now as far as the left being weak. If you consider that our military is mostly conservative, then it makes sense that liberals view themselves as peace activists and conservatives are more likely to defend their beliefs to the end. Consequentially, conservatives end up defending the weaker liberals.

It makes perfect sense to me.

Speaking of weak, did you see there's a new whole spine replacement technique these days....WOW, what great technology.

Posted by: navydad [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 01:54 PM

navydad, it's as I stated before: the left claims we've destablized the Middle East by invading Iraq, that we've caused more terrorism and made the world less safe. You and I, and the other free-thinking non-lemmings who are old enough, or smart enough to know a little history, realize that the Middle East has been unstable since what, 1948, or even earlier? That the drive-by media don't report on the Middle East instability as much when their beloved DemocRATs are running the show. Even Piglosi, Reid-tard, Kennedrunk and all the rest of the leftist appeasement monkeys in Congress know this, but they too are so blind by their hatred of Bush, they have to lie. And these kooks suck it all in. There's no hope for them. So here I am, with nothing for them but insults. My time is too valuable to do otherwise...
