The Islamic Republic of Vermontistan

Just when you think our lefists can't go any lower, they do:

Burlington, it turns out, is one of the very few places in the United States where the English language version of Al Jazeera, the Arab-backed television network criticized as pro-terrorist by the Bush administration, is available to local cable viewers.

Al Jazeera's Arab channel first came under worldwide scrutiny after it broadcast video statements from Osama Bin Laden in the aftermath of the 2001 terrorists attacks in the United States.

"We were certainly squeamish about it at first, given its reputation in the United States," said Tim Nulty, director of Burlington Telecom, the city-owned cable system, speaking of Al Jazeera. "But if you look at it, it looks like BBC. I think it's more mainstream and more objective than CNN." (emphasis added)

Oddly, Nulty does have a point - I mean about al-Jazeera being mainstream along with CNN and the BBC...and I can see why and American lefty would consider al-Jazeera to be more mainstream: while CNN and BBC make solid efforts at being anti-American and pro-terrorist, they just don't quite do it as well as al-Jazeera.

hey, uh, could you give me some examples of CNN and BBC being pro-terrorist?

Posted by: the_lefty_fool at April 22, 2007 04:47 PM

This is completely absurd. Al-jazeera is one of the most-watched networks in Israel, and before 9-11 the Bush Administration hailed it for being objective and a force for change in the Middle East. Don't buy into the propaganda surrounding it - just because it lets people hear Bin Laden's ranting in its entirety does not make it pro-terrorist.

Deleted - too stupid to be allowed in comments section, and that says a lot.

Posted by: Yeno2 [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 22, 2007 06:12 PM

If al jazeera hosts a presidential debate, I am sure all the democrat nominees will show up. While there they can all participate in a telethon to raise money for bin laden.

Posted by: james allegro at April 22, 2007 06:52 PM

wow.
You have really out done yourself. In one post you have
(a) just after a post about the supposed acceptable anti-catholic mania that is allowed here and how horrible it is - have a post where the title uses the word "Islamic" as derogatory
(b) called CNN and the BBC- an anti-american and pro-terrorist. Besides being completely unfounded and outrageous - you offer no proof other than slander.
(c) make the allegation that Al-Jazeera is pro-terrorist

Sorry Mark - you have shown your true - bigoted colors on this post. You know what - it Osama Bin Laden's statements ARE important news - especially after 9/11. It is NOT outrageous to play the english version of Al Jazeera in Vermont - its called freedom of the press. And - you Mark - who gets in such a huff after the slightest cut at anything christian shows your true colors by attempting to use the word Islamic as if if it were derogatory.
Have you no shame Sir? Have you no shame at all?

Posted by: kblack77 [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 22, 2007 07:20 PM

Yeno2 posted an absolutely precise parody of how you right-wingers think. That is why you deleted it.
lol!!!
Good post Yeno2, keep em coming, these idiots here are afraid of their own shadows.

Posted by: Miles at April 22, 2007 07:45 PM

kblack....Any news media outlet, whether it is the BBC, CNN or Al Jazeera, who plays in large portions or fully any 'call to arms', propaganda, or potential message to it's followers to take action, by any terrorist thug, whether it's Bin Laden, Al Sadr, or even Cho is PRO-TERRORIST. They are doing the actions that the Terrorists want them to do, hence they are aiding and abetting the enemy and providing MATERIAL support to the terrorists.

THEREFORE, Mark is correct in facts, in this matter.

You have really out done yourself.

"Outdone" is one word, Dr. Rerun.

btw, the first "keefer" post in this thread is an imposter. Mark, can you please ban the intruder?

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 22, 2007 09:52 PM

Amused,

You got a source on that claim?

Lefty,

As just one example, CNN reporter Michael Ware refers to the terrorists as "resistence fighters".

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 22, 2007 09:55 PM

kblack,

How is the use of the word "Islamic" derogatory? Do you just harbor some sort of anti-Islam bigotry where the mere word "Islam" sets you on edge?

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 22, 2007 09:57 PM

I love getting banned for being mildly sarcastic.

Pittsburgh Islamic Leader: Ayaan Hirsi Ali Should Be Killed

Ayaan Hirsi Ali's crime? Defaming Islam. This is happening in America, folks!

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Islamic leaders tried to block the lecture, which was sponsored through an endowment from the Frank J. and Sylvia T. Pasquerilla Lecture Series. They argued that Hirsi Ali’s attacks against the Muslim faith in her book, “Infidel,” and movie, “Submission,” are “poisonous and unjustified” and create dissension in their community.

Although university officials listened to Islamic leaders’ concerns, the lecture planned last year took place Tuesday evening under tight security, with no incidents.

Imam Fouad ElBayly, president of the Johnstown Islamic Center, was among those who objected to Hirsi Ali’s appearance.

“She has been identified as one who has defamed the faith. If you come into the faith, you must abide by the laws, and when you decide to defame it deliberately, the sentence is death,” said ElBayly, who came to the U.S. from Egypt in 1976. ...

Although ElBayly believes a death sentence is warranted for Hirsi Ali, he stressed that America is not the jurisdiction where such a crime should be punished. Instead, Hirsi Ali should be judged in a Muslim country after being given a trial, he added.

“If it is found that a person is mentally unstable, or a child or disabled, there should be no punishment,” he said. “It’s a very merciful religion if you try to understand it.”

I laughed out loud that someone has "stolen" Keefers' name. Wish I had thought of that. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
By the way Mark, they are resistance fighters. They are resisting us and each other. They aren't like our European allies as in WWII but it is a benign description. The sword cuts both ways Noonan.

Al-Jazeera is extremely pro-terrorist. Al-Jazeera should not be on American airwaves. Al-Jazeera should be shut down for advocating sedition and treason against Western nations-especially America.

CNN and especially the BBC...are anti-American and pro-terrorist.

Here are 2 quick examples of MSM bias:
UK Journalists' Union Votes to Boycott Israel

(via Lgf)"If you had any remaining doubt about the bias and thinly disguised antisemitism of the majority of British journalists, this report settles the matter: Report: UK journalist union votes to boycott Israeli goods. One more and this is important...THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: ISLAMIST FACILITATORS

"M. Zuhdi Jasser has a piece at RealClearPolitics on a frequent topic at LGF; the media’s outrageous coddling and whitewashing of radical Muslim front groups.[..] Jasser was featured in the documentary Islam vs. Islamists, suppressed by PBS after they had it reviewed by Islamist sympathizers with connections to the Nation of Islam."

...I have previously discussed the harm of our government’s enabling of Islamists (like CAIR, MPAC, MAS, MSA, or ISNA) in the United States and how the governmental endorsement of Islamists publicly empowers them and allows them to dodge their responsibility of countering Islamism as an ideology. This order of magnitude is greater in impact when it concerns the media’s inability to wage the debate of the “struggle for the soul of Islam”. Stories about Islam and Muslims have been more and more ubiquitous since 9-11 and now are actually commonplace. Yet, the actual debate within the Muslim community has barely begun. Where’s the disconnect? Look no further than the Islamist enablers in the media.

When so many ask across the nation, “where are the moderate voices of Islam?”, one cannot help lately but exclaim that they are being suffocated by misguided political correctness and by Islamist influence within mainstream media and government. The PBS censorship of the documentary, Islam vs. Islamists, highlights one of the best examples to date of the symbiosis of both government complicity and media complicity with the Islamist ideology.

I'm the real keefer

Posted by: Eric [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 22, 2007 11:35 PM

I read the Al Jazeera website daily. It is a fact-based reporting. That is why Bush does not like it. As Steven Corbet pointed out facts have a liberal bias.

Posted by: Christian Wright at April 23, 2007 12:08 AM

Me too! I am Keefer. A cheerleader for the new Roman Empire. Back then they were destroyed by drinking out of cups made of lead. (Which produced mass psychosis) Now we drink from the leaders insistence on world domination. The only way to keep us safe is to have the whole world conform to us.
Gag me.
I am Keefer. Watch me glow.

CW,

That you think al-Jazeera - the modern equivalent of Goebbles Ministry of Propaganda - is fact-based in its reporting does explain a lot about your Alternate Universe views...

So Vermont is Vermontistan because Burlington has got Al Jazeera on the cable?

What name should we now give to Texas? Texakistan? Al Jazeera is on the cable in Houston too.

"I'm keefer and so is my wife!"

(anyone get the refrence?)

I seriously doubt that most here are interested in seeing both sides to a story - but if there is anyone who actually cares about becoming informed, as oppoesed to all the bitc*ing like old married couples - check out the documentary, "Control Room". Very interesting.

Posted by: chris at April 23, 2007 05:47 AM

I'm curious about the number of Al Jazeera critics have ever seen it. As someone else pointed out, Bush has praised it in the past, and he's infallible, so criticizing Al Jazeera is effectively a sin.

Posted by: someguy at April 23, 2007 10:23 AM

That you think al-Jazeera - the modern equivalent of Goebbles Ministry of Propaganda - is fact-based in its reporting does explain a lot about your Alternate Universe views...

Says the man who was been wrong about everything regarding Iraq (and actually quotes military propaganda sources to bolster his unfactual claims).

Let me guess--you've seen exactly zero Al Jazeera programming, right? It's just got that Arabic name, and it doesn't have all those neato "patriotic" graphics like Faux News, so it must be eeeeevil.
