Statement by the President- Jackie Robinson

Statement by the President, and how fitting for such a controversial time in our
talk radio/ sports-related/ pop culture.

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

On April 15, 1947, an African American wearing the number 42 broke baseball’s color barrier. Jackie Robinson’s courage and skill convinced players, coaches, and fans to judge an athlete by his performance and not the color of his skin. His leadership strengthened America’s pastime and strengthened America. Sixty years later, our Nation celebrates Jackie Robinson’s accomplishments and his legacy, and we give thanks for his extraordinary life.

Thank you, Mr. President for reminding us in the midst of radio show host controversies and bad song lyrics, that there were people before us who carried badges of honor, decency, and courage to fight for the very things that are seemingly back in question now. Thank you for reminding us that if we are not careful with how we live and act in our daily lives: how we treat one another and how we view ourselves, history is braced to repeat itself.

PLEASE don't try to tell me you or Bush are drawing parallels between Robinson's leadership and Bush's leadership... You SURELY wouldn't be THAT disrespectful if Robinson's honourable team leadership as to try and draw parallels with Bush's crooked, lying, corrupt, dictatorial, cheating term, would you?

Then again, this IS Blogs for Bush... You probably would!

I am proud of the part that Montreal played in the Jackie Robinson story:-

Branch Rickey, president and co-owner of the Dodgers, chooses Montreal as the test bed for a move that would change baseball and earn Montreal a place in baseball history: he signs a black man.

A storm of controversy follows the signing of Jackie Robinson as the Montreal Royals second baseman. As he tours with the Royals, Robinson is subjected to jeers and even death threats. But at home in Montreal, considered by many to be the most cosmopolitan and tolerant city in North America, Robinson is mostly welcomed with open arms. He returns the kindness on April 18, 1946 with a stupendous first game. Robinson hits a three-run homerun, three singles and steals two bases to help the Montreal Royals crush the Giants 14-l. That year he helps the Royals win the "Little World Series" and becomes a Montreal hero.

He is immediately promoted to the Brooklyn Dodgers where he becomes Rookie of the Year. He spends 10 years with the Dodgers, retiring in 1957.

the last true good to come out of Canada...

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 04:32 PM

Actually Keefer, Mike Meyers came from Canada...but he's gay, so does he count?

Posted by: navydad [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 04:40 PM

I really wish you could keep you bigotry to yourself Navydad

Do you base that statement on the fact that he and his wife of 12 years, Robin Ruzan, are now divorced?

Posted by: Canadian Observer [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 05:01 PM

Actually CO...I do. A good friend of Mike's is my friend also. They played hockey together as teens and became friends in earlier movies.

Facts are facts kblack, and it's interesting how you took the comment to be bigotry rather than the opposite.....loser!

Posted by: navydad [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 05:55 PM

Facts are facts Navydad except when they contradict your ideological mantra. Then you pretend they are liberal bias.

Posted by: Amp [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 06:02 PM

Mantra this Amp.
The only ideological mantra here at B4B is by you kook libtards that chant death to America. Face it tard, if you had a gay friend that was conservative (which many of mine are), you'd accuse him/her of being brainwashed, therefore tearing your hyperbole of me being homophobic to shreds....moron!

Posted by: navydad [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 15, 2007 08:21 PM

BTW, the statement was to see how Canada treats the gay community...or couldn't you figure it out.
They count an African American, so do they consider homosexuals the same way?

If you'd have read any of my past posts, you'd know that I have a gay sister in-law and many friends that are gay....what a worthless moron...Amp!!

Mike's a funny guy, navydad, and his lifestyle issues don't bother me. The libs are the ones who make the gay issue an activist issue, not us.

I really wish you could keep you bigotry to yourself Navydad

I just wish you could keep to yourself, kblack, and leave us big boys alone. If not, I wish you could type at least one sentence without screwing up. PhD my ass. Unless, of course, we go with the Piled high and Deep version. Which is what you are, boy...

"God bless you President George W. Bush, the greatest president in american history.

Posted by: james allegro at April 16, 2007 01:27 AM"

What great things has George Bush done for the Country?

Well...

1)Terrible response to Hurricane Katrina
2)Lost in 2000 but got presidency anyway
3)Let 9/11 happen (I'm NOT saying he caused it, just that he ignored warnings)
4)Lied to the country about Iraq's WMD and ties to al Qaeda leading us into a needless and bloody war. And don't say we went in to remove Hussein: that wasn't the reason given at first, and we've caused more death and destruction in Iraq than Saddam ever had. (Not saying Saddam was good (he was terrible) just that things are worse now).
5)Virtually Forgot about War on Terror to go into Iraq
6)Allowed torture, killing of prisoners, denial of due process, denial of the right to a lawyer for some people (Abu Ghraib, Gitmo) to happen.
7)Jack Abramoff
8)Tom Delay
9)Plamegate
10)NSA wiretapping
11)Cheney shoots guy in face
12)Mark Foley
13)Creating a deficit from a surplus left by Clinton, and adding 2 trillion dollars to the nat'l debt
14)Allowed companies to embezzle millions (particularly Halliburton) in Iraq's reconstruction
15)Screwed our relationship with our allies
16)Allowing global warming to happen
17)Discredited a bunch of people by making them scapegoats (George Tenet, Colin Powell, John Ashcroft, Scooter Libby)
18)Screwed up Port Security with the Dubai Ports deal
19)Little response to December 2004 Tsunami in SE Asia
20)Ignored Darfur
21)Firings of US attorneys for political reasons
22)Mysterious loss of millions of emails sent throughout his administration

LeftyFool,

Your name is more than appropriate, as the talking points you listed aren't even accurate, much less true. But we understand, son--for morons such as yourself, history began when Bush took office.

btw, you should drop "Lefty" from your name...

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 17, 2007 05:26 AM

Fool...you forgot #23. Bush had a remote detonator to blow up the levees in NO!!
