Quote of the Day: Dan Bartlett

From the New York Times:

Republicans inside and outside the White House on Friday signaled that Bush, though still adamantly opposed to accepting any bill that has timetables in it, was ready to move on.

And the quote of the day belongs to Dan Bartlett, counselor to President Bush:

"We're entering a different phase in which I think the statements have been made, the votes have been cast, and while the president still has the responsibility to veto this bill, today's statement demonstrates that he's looking beyond the veto to how we can get the funding to our troops."

Best quote of the day?
It's gotta be this:
"I was using one service that sent Thai broads. Now I get 'em to send Central Americans."
-Randall Tobias, Head of the U.S. Agency for International Development and Director of US Foreign Assistance at the State Department.

The clock is ticking on Bush.

Randall Tobias, Head of the U.S. Agency for International Development and Director of US Foreign Assistance at the State Department.

Who?

Oh yeah, Tobias, the guy who is a household name throughout America. Hell, I have a calendar on my fridge which includes his famous quotes.

And my GOD, the man used an escort service! Hang him by his toenails! At least we can thank the heavens he didnt try to seduce one of his interns to give him a BJ or something.

Right Bacon - that exactly the point. I don't particularly care about whatever type of deviant this guy is. However, its fairly amusing that that in the 10 years of ranting and raving about Clinton - you simply ignore it when the person happens to be a Republican.
Or maybe he would have to molest children -er wait - um what would a Republican have to do for you guys to turn on him. I guess oppose Bush.. Great sense of "family values" you guys have. You brush off a child molester and accept him into the fold but someone who doesn't believe in the war... Lets go get a rope..

General William Odom

"In principle, I do not favor Congressional involvement in the execution of U.S. foreign and military policy. I have seen its perverse effects in many cases. The conflict in Iraq is different. Over the past couple of years, the President has let it proceed on automatic pilot, making no corrections in the face of accumulating evidence that his strategy is failing and cannot be rescued.

"Thus, he lets the United States fly further and further into trouble, squandering its influence, money, and blood, facilitating the gains of our enemies. The Congress is the only mechanism we have to fill this vacuum in command judgment.

"To put this in a simple army metaphor, the Commander-in-Chief seems to have gone AWOL, that is ‘absent without leave.’ He neither acts nor talks as though he is in charge. Rather, he engages in tit-for-tat games.

"Some in Congress on both sides of the aisle have responded with their own tits-for-tats. These kinds of games, however, are no longer helpful, much less amusing. They merely reflect the absence of effective leadership in a crisis. And we are in a crisis.

I hate to continue the OT, but:

However, its fairly amusing that that in the 10 years of ranting and raving about Clinton - you simply ignore it when the person happens to be a Republican.

Why would you believe Im ignoring it? I was simply responding to carsick's threadjack pertaining to some admin nobody who got caught using callgirls.

Or maybe he would have to molest children -er wait - um what would a Republican have to do for you guys to turn on him.

I just checked the lawbooks and sending explicit emails doesnt constitute child molestation. Now Congressman Stuggs (hint: democrat) actually had sex with an underage boy.

I guess oppose Bush.. Great sense of "family values" you guys have. You brush off a child molester and accept him into the fold but someone who doesn't believe in the war... Lets go get a rope..

Wow, its my lucky day, I get to reference the same democrat child molester twice in the same post. So...would allowing the esteemed and aforementioned Congressman Stuggs to serve an additional fourteen years in office AFTER he admitted to having sex with with a boy qualify as "brushing off"?

You must have left your family values brochure back at the local DNC office. It must be a mighty interesting read.

I didn't make any claims that he was famous or even important, though he is Condi Rice's right hand man and a Deputy Secretary of State, I just said it was the best quote of the day. I can see though that with a combination of arrogance and ignorance some may see it otherwise.

Posted by: carsick [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 28, 2007 10:56 PM

In the other light you may see it this way:

He is pro-family...he's married.

He's pro-small business...he's supporting independent contractors.

He believes in foreign assistance...he preferred paying for non-American girls.

He supports the anti-condom crusade...he only received "massages" from escorts.

He's entrepreneurial...he utilized privatization to meet his needs.

He's a maverick who thinks outside the box... he looked to unconventional alternative methods to achieve his goals.

He's worked against the slave trade and prostitution in foreign lands...he prefers to keep it domestic except...you know...not in his domicile.

No wonder an administration source reportedly said, "The president loves him and Condi absolutely loves him."

Now about the recently awarded DoJ official in charge of fraud and white collar crime who just resigned due to the investigation of his ties to indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff... how can arrogance and ignorance clean up his reputation... and, more importantly, provide a funny quote for Best Quote of the Day?

Posted by: carsick [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 28, 2007 11:40 PM

My mistake, I said indicted lobbyist...I meant "convicted" lobbyist. You remember the one. It's the same guy the White House refuses to release the logs showing the number of times he visited or had phone conversations with the White House due to executive privilege.

Posted by: carsick [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 28, 2007 11:47 PM

Um, how did a quote about vetoing the so-called funding bill get to be about some mid-level flunky who will probably lose his job. As noted before - when Republican's find some one who might have questionable morals or broken the law, they lose their job. When a Democrat ADMITS to breaking the law - he gets 14 more years in office. Wonder who has a better morals?

Posted by: kjstrouble [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 29, 2007 12:40 AM

I can see though that with a combination of arrogance and ignorance some may see it otherwise.

It's neither arrogance nor ignorance. It's just that many of us are tired of "gotcha." That's all this is, and you know it.

So what, a government employee got causght using a hooker service, and resigned in shame. Biiiig Whoop. Oh, I forgot, Bush is still in the White House, so let's blame yet another incident on him, another incident that he had no part in.

We're tired of it, carsick. That's why we hate you assholes...

The "midlevel" bureaucrat that some now downplay as inconsequential was in charge of the "abstinance only" sex education program. Get out the gas masks, the hypocracy is choking. Maybe he and Ted Haggard could swap stories.

Everybody makes typos, Erica, everybody. However, unlike yourself, not everybody wears their sister's undies...

So, Bush wants $ for the troops. But when he gets them, he vetoes the bill.

Republicans think benchmarks are good. But when a bill comes up proposing that we measure benchmarks in Iraq, they vote against it.

Republicans support our troops, but when it's take them home or let them be slaughtered, well, you know the deal.

Ahhh, the logical right.

And, btw, the bill does NOT guarantee a withdrawal unless the PRESIDENT says that benchmarks are being met. So it really ends up being the president's decision.
