Happy Easter
Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." Peter then came with the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first; and stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; he saw the linen cloths lying, and the napkin, which had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not know the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples went back to their homes.

But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him." Saying this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away." Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabboni" (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, "Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." Mary Magdalene went and said to the disciples "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had said these things to her.

John 20: 1-18

The empty tomb, the triumph of the faith of all Christians. And whom do you seek? Ask for it, and you will receive.

May God bless us all on this day.

UPDATE: The glory of God made manifest:

At Mother Seton Parish's Easter Vigil service last night, the front pews were filled with pilgrims who grew up far from the Catholic faith.

There was a sparkling-eyed Muslim teenager, a Buddhist social worker raised in Sri Lankha and a Protestant immigrant from Jamaica. But by the end of the ceremony, those three, along with a dozen others, had been initiated into Catholicism in a rite that started in darkness and ended in hugs and tears of joy.

Mother Seton, made up mostly of young families, is a microcosm of the increasingly diverse face of Catholicism in the region. Newcomers from a variety of ethnicities, races and faiths have helped build the Germantown church into one of the Archdiocese of Washington's fastest-growing parishes.

The converts were among 2,000 people in the area inducted last night during Easter Vigil services, in which Catholics welcome newcomers to their faith as they celebrate the Easter resurrection of their suffering Christ. Today in the Washington area, where there are almost 1 million Catholics, Masses are celebrated in more than 20 languages...

...Donya Botkan, 16, a junior at Damascus High School, had to overcome the concerns of her Muslim parents, who assumed she was just going through a phase. She had been attending Mass at Mother Seton as a purely social event with her Catholic friends, but Jesus's message of compassion and forgiveness, she said, wove its way into her heart.

"You don't hear that as much in other faiths compared to Christianity," she said.

I'm sure my Protestant brothers and sisters also had a good showing this Easter - but that last bit is the most important, for me: the message of compassion and forgiveness, which is what brought me back to my ancestral faith.

Praise the Lord He is Risen INDEED!

In he earliest versions of the Gospel of Mark do not contain any Resurrection account. Mark was the first Gospel put to pen and paper.

Also, the idea of a physical, and not just a spiritual, resurrection developed later in Christian tradition.

In fact the use of the original word "risen" in 1 Corinthians does not necessarily mean a physical raising of the body. It can, and may mean the raising of an idea, or legacy, something not physical but transcendant.

But it is also worthy to note that the Biblical accounts of the Resurrection do not agree, particularly on who saw the "rise" Christ first and under what circumstances.

Read the four Gospel accounts for yourself and see if they agree.

You are deceiving the people and what you say is totally incorrect.
When Jesus appeared in the Upper Room he told Thomas" to touch his hands, and his side. This had to be the physical. The disciples did not have this power in themselves to change.
When on the road to Emmaeus he talked with the disciples but they could not see him, this was the spiritual. They could hear but not see until he allowed them.
He had the ability to change from a physical to spiritual body. The scriptures say the door was shut and Jesus entered the room.
Secondly when Jesus went to the Mount of Olives the scriptures say, He would return in like manner in which he went up. The disciples saw Jesus in his physical form at this moment.

Also, if you and a friend saw an accident and you were later in the courtroom you may both be called to the stand to testify. It a fact that you would have an entirely different perspective of what you saw differing somewhat from your friend.
When they arrived at the tomb one may have looked to the left in anticipation in seeing the risen Lord and the other may have looked to the right.
Thereby seeing two totally different images and the spirit of God allowing Gods word to be written so that we could not only understand but have faith in believing what His word says.
I hope you will have a change of heart and allow the spirit of God to let you see in a spiritual way, otherwise you will deceive the folks.

Wade,

I apologise for not being a good enough Christian to bear proper witness to you - you seem to me to be a good person with a generous heart in a lot of ways, but there seems to be something missing in you which prevents the full flowering of charity. As I'm not good enough to call you to Christ, I will ask Thomas a' Kempis to help out:

Whatever I can desire, whatever my thoughts can conceive in the way of comfort, I look to find not here, but later on. Even though I alone had all the comforts of the world, even though I could revel in all its pleasures, the could not last for long, that's certain. That is why my soul will never be able to find fullness of comfort, never be perfectly refreshed, save only in God, the comforter of the poor and refuge of the humble. Wait but a little while, my soul, wait for God to keep his promise, and in heaven you will have good things of all kinds, overflowing the cup of his bounty. But if you are full of uncontrolled yearning for the good things of this present life, you will lose those which belong to heaven and eternal life. Let the things of time be for you to use, but those of eternity the goal of your longings. None of the good things of this world can satisfy you; it was not to enjoy them alone that you were created.

Even though you possessed every good thing God has made, it could not make you happy and blessed; no, it is in God, who made all these things, that your whole blessedness lies, your whole happiness. I don't mean the kind of happiness envisaged by those foolish enough to love the world, the kind that earns their approval; no, I mean that happiness to which good and faithful followers of Christ look forward, that happiness which a foretaste is sometimes given to the spiritual and the pure in heart, whose earthly lives are spent in heaven. All of the comfort we get from human sources is empty and soon gone; true comfort, blessed comfort, is that which is given inwardly by the Truth. A devout man, wherever he may be, takes everywhere with him his comforter, Jesus, and says to him, "Be with me, Lord Jesus, at every moment in every place." Let this, then, be my comfort, my willingness to forgo all comfort that comes from man; and if I do not recieve your comfort, let my highest comfort be the thought that it is by your will, your justice, that I am being tested; because "he will not always be finding fault, his frown does not last forever." - The Imitation of Christ

It is waiting for you, Wade...all you need do is ask for it.

A Happy Easter it was for us, except for some that could not be with us because of a war.

I am a Catholic. I have a question for Mr. Noonan.

You are a Catholic, and we know that we must have belief in our Pope. We are taught that the Pope is infallible. The Pope has clearly stated that he believes the war in Iraq is unjust and immoral.

Why do you choose to trust in the words of a non-Catholic and possibly non-Christian (despite his words) like the President Bush and reject the words of your Pope on this matter?

Posted by: Romanesstra [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 06:45 PM

Romanestra,
I have some good news for you friend.

There's only one way through God the Father, His name Is Jesus Christ.
He said, "None can come to the father except through me."
That excludes ALL of mankind living or dead. Why? Because man has that Adamic Nature, so then sinful flesh can not save or answer prayers.
When Christ died on the cross we no longer need a priest, or goats, or lambs, or sacrifices, He aLONE is our sacrifice and he split the curtain from the top to the bottom (in the temple). Why? Because it shows man had nothing to do with it.
We now have access to God the father, not through any man but through the man called Jesus Christ and I hope you will find life anew through His Holy and Righteous Name.
He alone can make us Holy and Without Blame.
Praise His Holy Name. He's alive!

Posted by: truthisright [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 07:09 PM

Romanesstra, he did? When? What exactly did he say?

So, you're anti-gay and pro-life also... right?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 07:41 PM

Christ's story will always be torn down and apart by the unbeliever, if they didn't do that, they would be miserable. We are called to believe as a little child, to accept the Word of God.

Lets take a moment of supposition. We know that Christ had a following, He had gained in popularity and flocks of people were listening to Him.

We know that the Priests feared Him and His message. They conspired to put Jesus to death and stacked the crowd with people to shout for His death.

SO. Here we have a man who could preach. Here we have someone who has been said to perform miracles. He is put to death.

Something had to have happened that is way outside the norm after His death. John the Baptist was very popular as well. When he was put to death you didn't have the reaction that Jesus had. You didn't have people saying that they saw him alive after his death. With Christ you did. With Christ you had people willing to die themselves rather than denounce that Christ rose again.

How can a following keep growing AFTER the death? Christ changed the earth. A preacher who, while fairly well known at that time, would have or should have faded into obscurity given that the religious leaders had Him put to death.

The only real answer that can be brought forth is a major happening went on with Christ's death that is far beyond what any other prophet had.

All His disciples who had fled when He was arrested suddenly gained nerve afterward and preached and recruited for Him. That goes against human nature to be willing to face death for a dead man. While you might have had them telling of His message, you would not have had them telling of His resurection.

There are hundreds of passages that talk of the coming Savior in the Old Testament. I forget the exact number, but it is an incredibly large odds against one person fulfilling even a majority of those prophesies. Christ fulfilled every one of them.

Christ brought about a change that spanned the globe. Christ touchs peoples lives in profound ways. Pray for the Spirit to enter you and you will be amazed at what will occur in your life. It won't be easier, but your outlook will be forever changed.

He is risen, indeed.

I agree Ol Goat,
DL Moody said give me 10 Holy Spirit filled men and I'll turn Chicago upside down.
Christ took 10 Holy Spirit filled men and turned the world upside down.
He filled them by His spirit. He equipped them with knowledge and wisdom as Colossians Chapter 1 and 2 says.
Praise His holy name for there is Salvation through His Shed blood.
Satan has tried to stamp out his name, his people but Christ crushed his head at Calvary and Satan knows this.
He is hell bound and wants to take all he can with him.
Stay strong and true to the one who died for you.

What would the pope do if the terrorists done to Rome what they done to America on 9/11 and they have large intentions of doing great harm. Just listen to CNN, FOX, ABC,CBS,NBC, news channels.
They want to destroy the "Great Satan"
In all due respect to the Pope, He doesn't fully understand the war on terror in which the world is now a part of.
What about Spain? London? India?
When will people wake up.
I could bury my head in the sand, or the pomp of great Cathedrals and say, "Oh, no war, just peace."
Where you think that's going ot get me when there are those who want complete destruction to you?
War is terrible. War is not good.
But we must and will protect the citizens of this great country says our President.
And in all sense about me I say,"I agree Mr. President."

Posted by: truthisright [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 09:47 PM

I want to clarify who the great satan is as claimed by our enemies. It's the United States of America.

I was responding to Kahn's question without making my own comment.

Posted by: Casper [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 10:05 PM

"I am a Catholic....We are taught that the Pope is infallible."

One and possibly both of these statements are false, because Catholics are NOT taught that the Pope is infallible every time he speaks. The infallibility doctrine only applies when the Pope "proclaims by a definitive act a doctrine pertaining to faith or morals...[i.e.,] when the Church...proposes a doctrine 'for belief as being divinely revealed' and as the teaching of Christ...;" or when the Pope proposes "a teaching that leads to a better understanding of Revelation in matters of faith and morals."

Source: Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 891 - 892.

Clearly, Benedict was not proposing any belief as being "divinely revealed" in his Easter message today. Catholics are therefore perfectly free to disagree with his statement about Iraq (to the effect that nothing good is coming out of there).

Posted by: JPL [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 10:07 PM

The topic is Happy Easter and I quoted the Pope's speech to answer a question by Kahn. Since when is it wrong to quote the Pope on Easter?

Posted by: Casper [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 10:12 PM

Being a Protestant, I follow the Pope, though I do respect the position as well as the RC Church.

I am a Lutheran, so we are a lot closer to Catholic teachings than other protestant religions are. I do believe that the Pope is inspired by God and that God works through him, but he is a flawed man, just like any other. I believe that the Pope has every right to state what he feels is wrong in the world. He should abhor war, though war is sometimes necessary, a Pope isn't one who would really be a cheer leader for any war.

Posted by: Ol' Goat [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 10:19 PM

Casper, knowing the posts that you put up, I would bet that it was the context that got it deleted.

Get over it.

Posted by: Ol' Goat [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 10:21 PM

Any extrascriptural revelation proclaimed outside the word of Almighty God is irrelevant and should not be hailed as truth by any denomination.
His word alone stands as truth. I don't need to defend it, I just need to proclaim it. As it is. Not changed, added to or etc.
So many religions have been started from this very act.
God word is Truth.

Posted by: truthisright [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 10:23 PM

Ol' Goat,
You are right. I'm over it. It's been a good day.

Posted by: Casper [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 10:28 PM

truthisright... You are correct, but we, as sinful beings, tend to look for ways of putting words in God's mouth, so to speak.

We twist things to make it more acceptable. We interpret the words to have meanings that may not be there.

I believe the Word of God is a living book that God uses to speak to various generations. I believe that there are things in the Bible that are meant specifically for our present time and some things that were meant specifically for times in history. I believe we are given the means to come to understanding God's Word by the Spirit.

Posted by: Ol' Goat [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 8, 2007 10:41 PM

I agree Ol'Goat,
But let me remind you of this one thing,
(And I do agree with you), no one can add to Gods word. Nothing needs to be added, or taken away.
Revelation gives that warning to all.
Jim Jones had a revelation and it cost over 600 lives.
Jim Baker had a revelation and it cost his ministry
Joseph Smith had a revelation and it started a cult
Ellen G Smith had a revelation and she's gone and her ideologies contained in the hearts of some that are still led astray.

But Gods word still stands firm. He told Peter, "Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
That rock is Jesus Christ. He is the chief cornerstone and he is all we need, we are complete in him and he will keep us from falling. We don't have to live in sin. Sinners do not go to heaven.
Jesus said, "Be ye holy, as I am holy." Nothing needs to be added to that. He is holy and so can we.
People say pitifully, "Oh I just sin every day."
No you don't have to. Gods word can keep us from that. We sin because we want to.
A bank robber is a robber because he wants to and choose to.
We are what we are by our own choices.
But we can have victory through Jesus Christ.
Complete victory. Perfect,No. but complete victoriously in Him and in His Righteousness and His Grace.
