It doesn't apply to them, Matt. They can sling mud our way, and they get a pass. When we fight back, we're "making it personal..."

Am I missing something. When has anyone on this blog defended Jefferson. All this shows is that both parties are corrupt. In spite of that, I would still take our system over anyone elses. At least we admit we have corruption and try to do something about it.

When Republicans are corrupt, they are dispatched in short-order.
The democrats are so friggen disingenuous, phony (and did I mention contrived) that they're beginning to make me physically ill each time I read about them.

Sorry Leo but the republicans are no better. The House Ethics Committee (controlled by the Republicans)admonished Tom DeLay twice while he was in power and he was allowed to stay.

I love how Democrats always fall back on the "well, they're all corrupt" line.. Because they only want Republicans to be held accountable.

The link didn't work for me but I can say...
Power and money will always find weak people willing to grab for it in corrupt ways.
The current representatives of the republican party are dismantling the organizations we hold dear in this country to maintain justice and fairness.
We are a country based in law and not a country whose chief lawmakers and law upholders seem to think "Laws for thee but not for me."
There will always be weak people so we need to maintain credibility and accountability in our justice system.
You seem a bit suspect in your views with your continual support of the inept, if not corrupt, Alberto Gonzalez.

My mistake: I don't know whether Matt Margolis has shown support for Gonzalez. I assumed this was another Mark Noonan post.

What has Gonzales done that is corrupt?

I don't know if Gonzalez is corrupt. I said he is "inept, if not corrupt..."
The level of ineptness he has shown doesn't bode well for the head of our country's justice department and it's ability to root out corruption.

of course democrats are corrupt. and of course republicans are corrupt. I don't see why you need to buy a book and make Matt and Mark rich to understand that point. Pure partisan hackery...

Case in point, Matt:
During the '06 Senate campaign, two staffers, employed by UpChuck Schumer, were found to have obtained the credit report of then Lt Gov Michael Steele (R-MD). The two staffers were forced to resign, and I believe indicted, but that's all we ever heard about the matter. Had this been a Republican effort against the DemocRAT Party, the Dems would be howling for the heads of everyone up the chain. Hell, they'd have wanted Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, and President Bush too!
Absolute hypocrisy...

Corruption should be rooted out no matter the party. We need to have a well working justice system with credibility to accomplish that goal.
Also, how many republican congressmen have already "stepped down" due to scandal or indictments? They may have some more company soon.
"U.S. Rep. Rick Renzi, R-Ariz., could soon step down in the wake of a federal investigation into his involvement in a federal land swap deal and FBI raids of an insurance agency owned by his wife."

Are Rep.s Tom Feeney and Don Young soon to join the club too?
A couple staffers having a credit report is schoolyard stuff compared to what's causing these "retirements."

carsick,
And who gave the "staffer" the orders to illegally obtain Lt Gov Steele's credit information? Seems to me that the senior Senator from NY is the head of the Senate Reelection Committee. He wouldn't have anything to do with it, I'm sure.
You can list all the Republicans legislators you want who have broken the law or have ethics violations and I will respond with the same list who have resigned or declined to run for reelection.
The issue is the growing list of Democrats who have broken the law (Rep Jefferson - $100,000 bribe, Sen Kennedy - vehicular homicide), or acted unethically (Sen Reid - land fraud, Rep Pelosi - illegal campaign contributions, Sen Clinton - illegal campaign contributions), and the Democrat leadership does nothing about it. Oh...wait...its the Democrat leadership that are breaking the law or acting unethically.
