Snow Snubs Story as Silly

All I can say is that this is yet another example of how the White House continues to exert leadership even in the midst of an unfriendly environment. It is clear and quite evident that White House officials could have used this story to their advantage and angle it as a negative towards the democrats, but, instead, they called it for what it was: SILLY.

I wonder if the democrats would do the same for us. I have yet to see it...

So let me get this straight...

1. The right-wing blogosphere, including Blogs for Bush in several posts, manufactures a faux-controversy about Pelosi and her plane.

2. They flog it for a week, but it doesn't gain much traction, since post-9/11 security concerns resulted in the previous Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert, getting a plane as well.

3. At that point, the White House does what is best politically for them: take the high road and try to score some points for civility.

4. Tony Snow calls the story silly.

5. Blogs for Bush, which had previously stated the story was important and emblematic of some larger corruption, now agrees that the story is silly.

6. Because of this story and its conclusion, Blogs for Bush states that this story shows how good Republicans are, and how bad Democrats are.

I think I've just about summed up the events, so now I can answer your question. No, Democrats would handle this very differently. They wouldn't make up bulls**t controversies in the first place, and they wouldn't later flip-flop on the importance of said controversy.

Now that I've answered your question, here's my question to you: Do you even remember the crap you said yesterday, or the day before, or is each new day a new opportunity to throw new crap at Democrats, regardless of the crap you threw yesterday?

Posted by: steveGA at February 9, 2007 11:51 AM

You call the Bush administration leadership? Oh my, you need a class in leadership skills then!

Posted by: ScottLSF at February 9, 2007 12:01 PM

Silly? NOT IN THE LEAST!

A blunder -- a bad blunder -- on the part of the White House and Snow? ABSOLUTELY! Yet another media opportunity blown, trashed, and thrown down the drain by the White House!

Hasn't the President learned anything about dealing with Democrats and the liberal media over the past six years? Let the Democrats stew in and defend their own media problems -- especially ones they create. If [President] Pelosi believes she is entitled to her own private Air Force 3 -- right behind President Bush in Air Force 1 and the Vice President in Air Force 2 -- then let her defend that requirement to the American people! We absolutely DO NOT NEED the White House undermining the efforts of those Republicans who are working to point out Nancy's demands to the American VOTERS!

I don't have a problem with Pelosi flying on a military plane, but it's NOT AIR FORCE 3 as she might like! She's not entitled to one that can hold all of her Democratic backers and supporters either or those whom she may want to impress in a flight on HER plane. A hop on a military jet? Yes. A modest plane? Perhaps. One that may need to refuel once -- at a secure military base? Yes. But not Air Force 3!!!

If the White House wanted to say something, then just tell the press that the White House supports her flying on an available military aircraft, but that the details and size must be worked out with the Pentagon. But absolutely DO NOT call the Republican's efforts to publicize her request SILLY! That's a blunder a novice like myself might make, but one that should NOT be made by the White House or a seasoned pro like Snow! All Snow did by calling it SILLY was to provide a one word propaganda windfall to the Democrats and the liberal media, undermining the efforts of Republicans.

Perhaps next time the White House should just keep quiet... like they have done for the past six years while Democrats effectively out maneuvered them with their lies and propaganda!

And NO, the Democrats would NOT do the same for Republicans. Democrats would be throwing gasoline on the fire! The Democrats know how to effectively use the media!

Umm, Madame Princella, you do realize that the very blog you are writing on was helping to promote and spread this silly story, don't you?

Conservatives are confused today! Whose lead do they follow? The White House's or the RNC's?? Yipes, what a conundrum!

Better check with Fox News and make sure...

Posted by: Jeremy Wilcox at February 9, 2007 12:39 PM

OT, but I just saw this over at NRO. Speaking as one who cleaned public toilets while working to pay for collage, I find this offensive.

Conservatives don't buy into the elitist mantra that there are servant classes, If Rove made disparaging remarks about people that work for a living then he should be publicly repudiated for these statements.

Sorry, back to the debate on silly statements coming out of the Administration.

Posted by: Dasein Libsbane [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 9, 2007 12:43 PM

AAR,

You are batsh*t crazy. This was a complete non-story and it makes House Republicans look like petty morons...it was a wise political move for the White House to dismiss it.

Why don't you go read about what sort of plane Hastert had and about how Pelosi didn't even demand the larger plane, and then get back to us.

Gar Wood

Posted by: Gar Wood [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 9, 2007 12:43 PM

I'm with you on this one Dasein. I not only cleaned public toilets working through college, I had a spell where I cleaned animal kennels too. And I was absolutely delighted to have the opportunity given the fact that unemployment was over 15% in my county at that time. My 21-year old son has Rove's attitude and finds physical labor beneath him.

I also agree with Gar on the plane issue. Snow and the administration look absolutely classy on this one and I salute them. There are plenty of other conservatives carrying the water on this issue and they don't need to engage.

Posted by: Thrower [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 9, 2007 01:49 PM

Thrower,
Still OT; sorry. A story I love to tell my students is that the CEO of the restaurant company I worked for showed me the proper way to clean a toilet; he was appalled at the condition of the washroom in my restaurant when he arrived for a lunch meeting with investors. He was wearing a his business suit, but he rolled up his sleeves, pulled on rubber gloves and stuck his hands into the toilet to make sure it was done right. That made a hell of an impression on me.

The Administration spokes-folks are doing the right thing, the kindness they show won’t be repaid, we know that, but this way they cannot be attacked for being partisan. This kind of gutter fighting is best left to the attack dogs.

Gar,

Thanks for another of your Liberal Democrat posts with which you clutter up a perfectly good Conservative site! I'll just put in the same place some would put the fish by the same name... in the trash!

As to the differences between the plane Republican Hastert used and that requested by Democrat Queen Pelosi, I'll quote from some of the media reports... realizing that they are slanted to the left and might be biased!

From CBS news (AP) ...

"After the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Pentagon agreed to provide the House speaker, who is second in the line of presidential succession behind the vice president, with a military plane for added security during trips home. Hastert flew in a commuter-size Air Force jet." (Emphasis mine.)

From the Boston Globe (AP)...

"A waste of the taxpayers' money, some said, claiming her trips would cost $15 million a year if she used planes such as the military version of the Boeing 757-200. In its commercial configuration the 757-200 usually seats 175-190 passengers." (Emphasis mine.)
"Pelosi should lead by example, argued others, because a bigger plane consumes more fuel and contributes more to the global warming she expresses concern about."
"'The jet that Pelosi has produces 10,000 pounds of carbon dioxide an hour, far more than the previous speaker used,' said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C. Pelosi's predecessor was Rep. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill."
"'By commandeering a huge government plane for her personal transport to California, this is totally contradictory to the alarm bells we heard her ringing in the Science Committee just a few hours ago,' Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., said."

And yes, I already know, "But, but, but, Queen Pelosi must fly all the way to California!"

AAR

So what if Pelosi has to 'stop halfway to refuel',
bigfndeal....others have to. The GOP ONCE AGAIN, missed an opportunity to show the hypocracy of this demanding, demeaning(to the GOP) and vicious
woman. She, who touts bs about "clean air", etc. it's the usual "what's good for the peons-just is
not quite good enough for me"...what crass. If a plane was good enough for Hastert, it should be the same one offered to her. But, the Whitehouse
once again, 'wants to take the high road', and once again, they are duped by the Dems-who believe
me, WOULD NOT HAVE MISSED ANY CHANCE TO PUT BUSH'S
SHIRT IN THE DIRT ON 'ANY TRIVIAL MATTER'-NO MATTER WHAT IT IS....

For whatever reasons, the GOP, just don't like to 'fight back and show up these Dems for what they are-vicious, liars, and obstructionists'.
They want to keep 'taking it on the chin, and are looking like softies and patsies to the public, who are wondering WHY they pass over this stuff, when in fact, it only took a joke by Trent Lott, about Strom Thrumond, and HE WAS OUT OF HIS JOB.

WHEN WILL THEY LEARN TO FIGHT BACK, AND FIGHT BACK
IN THE SAME WAYS THAT THE DEMS HAVE BEEN SPEWING OUT CRAP AGAINST THEM SINCE DAY ONE?? ONE WONDERS?

Posted by: Jo at February 9, 2007 03:10 PM

Well, it all depends upon the democrates who opt for their parliament to come in power.

After reading the drivel that posters like AAR and Jo regularly come up with, I can only do what I usually do when reading the neocon propaganda on B4B. I shake my head in disgust, quietly laughing (in the irony) to myself.

Actually it's quite sad.

As sad as the fact that you come here everyday to read it?

Posted by: LiberalNightmare [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 9, 2007 07:59 PM

Rake:

If you don't like what is posted on B4B, why don't
you stay off site, or go to Moveon.org-which is so much more to your liking we're sure. And, it gets tiresome having to look at your leftist dribble each time you post. NO ONE cares that you
come here whinning, and personally, I don't give a rat's ass what you have to rant about, as one can read the same crap over at Huffington if we wanted to. So don't let the door, kick you in the ass!

Posted by: Jo at February 9, 2007 09:18 PM

I really do try to understand you people. To try and glean some understanding of your perspective. To read your point of view. You all seem alike, what makes you tick?

I try. Yet, I fail to understand you. You profess this unflappable faith in your God. Your God. I do not understand how we have different views of the Prince of Peace, Jesus. I read the same books. I had a catholic religious upbringing.

How come I have different views of the wondrous systems in America, and her people? Why do I find you so harsh, and callous. Why do I put you people in the same box as the Jonestown populous?

This is why I come here, to read your views, to try and better understand you.

All of this, and I come to the same conclusion...

You're a bunch of maroons.

Posted by: raker13 [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 9, 2007 10:17 PM

And we all appreciate that raker, really we do. Personally, I take great satisfaction in knowing that a member of the 'Great Enlightened' would deign to visit us lowly unwashed folk and allow us to bask in their greatness. Thankyou.

Hold on...

Sorry, I puked a little into my mouth.

Ok, better now.

Why is it that I have such different views of the wonderous systems in America? Why do I find you so cowardly and naive? Why do I put you people in the same box as the Ailah populous?

All of this, and I come to the same conclusion...

Youre a bunch of clownshoes.

By the way Raker-I believe it is "Moron" in your enlightened references- NOT MAROON.

GET A LIFE,
AND KEEP TOUTING YOUR LIB CRAP IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT. WE CARE LESS....

Bacon:

I have to tell you this. I read your post to someone and I was so hysterical I couldn't even get it out for over 4 minutes. That was so funny
and I have finally caught my breath from laughing.
Good to let the Maroon, I mean Moron know we all here do have a sense of humor, right?

I don't know what country this Moron is writing from, and wonder if Allah is HIS true deity-what do you think?

Posted by: Jo at February 10, 2007 12:36 AM

There must be something in the water around here,
as I just looked in on another post topic, and I find that 3moreyears, also writes about "Maroons".

Is it me, or are these two MORONS-3moreyears and
Raker13, "one in the same posters...OR, are they
both trying to sound like such "cool and crazy guys", yet they don't seem to get the swipes on B4B quite nailed down yet? What MAROONS-LOL!!!

Posted by: Jo at February 10, 2007 12:46 AM

It never ceases to amaze me how B4B posters on the left and the right call each other names and hurl insults at each other, yet act as if they are above the other.

Do any of you attend church?

Posted by: IT for life [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 10, 2007 01:58 PM

Jo, you must not be very old. I'd say 12 or 13? The tongue in cheek term "maroon" comes from the Bugs Bunny Looney Tunes Warner Bros. cartoons. I think it was Bugs in his Brooklynesque accent, teasing his adversaries by saying "what a maroon, what a rube"

Get it? See he was from New York City. They talk funny there.

Kinda fits doesn't it?

Posted by: raker13 [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 10, 2007 02:59 PM

Rake:

You didn't comment on whether or not you and "3moreyears" are ONE in the same. Seems odd that you Both, rip into the conservatives on this site, and both refer to Maroons-rather than Moron,
which most people use when "calling names as you both do constantly. By the way, I haven't looked into Bugs Bunny, in probably 50 years-nice to see,
your clever intellectual references, are held in
such high esteem by you. Thanks for the uplifting
information.
