The Donks took over Congress officially on Thursday...lets let them sleep in, so they got started at noon. Noon Thursday to Noon Sunday is, let me see here, 72 hours...its now a bit after midnight early Monday morning as this comes out, so 84 hours...only 16 hours left to get done the whole first 100 hours program. Only one problem, as Drudge reports, Congress won't be in session on Monday, the 8th of January 2007.
And this after the Donks promised to have Congress work a five day work week...of course, some things are too important to allow legislative business to interfere with. I mean, come on: we've got the Ohio State/University of Florida game! Screw a bunch of minimum wage increases...we've got to watch football.
Ah, well, there's always next week for the Donks to try working for five days...except that a week from Monday is Martin Luther King day....we're going to keep track of just how many five day weeks our Donks put in between now and November of 2008.

I heard about them taking off for the OSU - Florida game on the news last night. My first thought was, well that certainly puts the minimum wage increase in perspective. Of course, in my view, just about anything is more important than raising the minimum wage, so the National Championship college football game is a no brainer.

Well at least Rush Limbaugh is getting the Republican message out on this first 100 hours. "[L]ook at Ms. Pelosi. Why, she can multitask. She can breastfeed, she can clip her toenails, she can direct the House, all while the kids are sitting on her lap at the same time."
This is really deep thinking.

The game starts at 8:15 PM, plenty of time to work during normal hours and commute back home. But then, I can't complain too much about Congress not working today. Dubya gave federal employees a day off in tribute to that NCAA football champion Gerald Ford, whose Michigan team won the title during the 30's. I'm sure that Ford, in that great stadium in the sky, it rooting for Florida, or more precisely, against Ohio State.

As a diehard Michigan fan, I can assure you that you're right. Satan himself could be playing Ohio State and we'd be shouting, "Go Satan!!"

As a passionate Buckeye fan from Sept to that fateful day in November UM ranks low on my list.
Actually last.
But come late Dec/Jan I root for the conference..even though I live in USC/UCLA country....
Your ilk is likely the reason UM keeps losing to Tressel...whereas real Big Ten football fans want their team and conference to win...

The first 100 hours of the new Democrat controlled congress is terrifying to me. I have been listening to Rush this morning and becoming more dejected all the time. The Republicans are going to go along with the Dems liberal agenda, according to the Washington Times. The biggest issues are the Iraqi War (cut and run/defeat) illegal immigration (amnesty which Bush will sign), minimum wage (hikes) and Social Security (raising taxes) I am simply stunned and I am not sure conservatives can do anything about it. Unfortunately, in the Nov. election, huge numbers of Republicans stayed home and didn't vote as they were so upset with the 'at the time' GOP representatives acting like liberals. Why doesn't the GOP ever get it?
Doesn't look good.

Don't sweat it Mark, it's coming -- stand by.
As James Carville told Democrats after the 2004 election -- "you gonna get a civics lesson."

Where exactly did you study political science, Mark?
"The 100-hour time period refers to business hours and not actual time, and begins on the Tuesday (January 9, 2007) after the swearing-in ceremony on January 4th."

That was the first 100 working hours, so about 3 weeks. Go ahead and count the actual five day weeks but I don't think there was any mention of working on holidays. While you're at it why don't you keep a running count of the total hours worked this session versus the last session and we'll see who the slackers are.

Mark, nice talking point, but you missed one big thing...
This day off was requested by MINORITY LEADER JOHN BOEHNER, because he and some others wanted to watch the game. Pelosi, in a spirit of kindness Republicans demand but never gave the Democrats, agreed and changed the schedule.
Nice try, though.
