New House Intel Chairman Flip-Flopped On Troop Surge

Via Pundit Review:

In December, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes stated, “We have to consider the need for additional troops to be in Iraq, to take out the militias and stabilize Iraq … I would say 20,000 to 30,000-for the specific purpose of making sure those militias are dismantled, working in concert with the Iraqi military.”— Newsweek, December 5, 2006

Chairman Reyes, however, has changed his tune. “We don’t have the capability to escalate even to this minimal level.”…Reyes, who met with Bush on Tuesday to review the plan, said sending more troops removes any incentive the Iraqi government had to take responsibility for the safety of its own citizens. — El Paso Times, January 11, 2007

Kevin writes, "How in the world do you defend that? The good news for Reyes is he’s a Democrat, so he doesn’t have to." He's right.

I guess he's just another in a long line of "moderates." Moderates are the order of the day in Washington--they wet their finger and hold it up in the breeze...

Matt: "New House Intel Chairman Flip-Flopped On Troop Surge".

I'll leave it to others to state the obvious (although opposite) comparisons.

What they say to the press is irrelevent except in its derogatroy effect on our troops and as a comfort to the enemy.

Senators and Congressmen draft legistlation and pass laws. Do it, or shut up.

They were actually for the Troop Surge before they were against it.

Sound familiar?

Clearly, this is the new tone of bipartisanship and civility that is currently being embraced on Capitol Hill. Whatever President Bush supports - they oppose. Whatever President Bush opposes - they support! Since they've got the Lamestream Media in their hip pocket, the Dems can do or say just about anything they want - and get away with it... Because they know that their backs are covered. But I'm keeping up with the juicy stream of hypocrisy coming out of the Dem's camp for the future. Whether it's the 100 Hours of empty legislation or the appointing of dirty Dems to Committee seats, the curtain has been drawn back for the voters of this country. We may not be throwing fruit and vegetables onto the political stage yet (actually, we're still cleaning up from last November!), but it's just the opening scene of the first act, after all. There's much more hilarity (and Hillary) to come!!

I believe that when push comes to shove, the Dems are going to have to vote to support funding for this surge. To get "wobbly" at this point will point to certain political suicide in the coming months and years...

But it will be fun to watch all the squirming as they pander first to this group, then to that group... :)

Whether it's the 100 Hours of empty legislation or the appointing of dirty Dems to Committee seats, the curtain has been drawn back for the voters of this country.

It was drawn back long before November, boomer--that didn't help. A party that ran on "No" agenda was able--through the DBM and money from special-interest groups--to regain long-lost power. Will the American people see through the charade? I'm not too optimistic for the near future; the DemocRAT Party panders to the dumbed-down, and they do it well...

Guys, can you please tell us if we are "winning the war" like before the midterms or "winning but not losing" three weeks after the midterms?

Our left-crazed brains just can't keep up with W's supreme intellect and adapt with him in a 3 week period!

Please help! Could you bring some syrup with that?

and milk if you got some.

Posted by: Bill Stensin [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 14, 2007 08:30 AM

Bill, actually, we have been winning all along. Until the anti-liberty leftists pulled out all the stops in opposing the effort and supporting our enemies, directly or indirectly.

The left needs to decide once and for all, eitehr they desire us to win, or they desire us to lose.

There is no in between!

As many of us said leaving Viet Nam, "what happened? We were winning when I left"

Posted by: Lew Waters [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 14, 2007 12:43 PM

Gee Lew, you and Mark have both metnioned that "no in between" clause on a more than 1 occasion.

Can you please tell us 1 thing- just 1 simple definition of:

"We're not winning, we're not losing," G.W.H.Bush 20 DEC 2006

Posted by: Bill Stensin [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 14, 2007 01:34 PM

BTW Lew, while at that definition- let us know also how we have been "winning all along". For that GRAND MASTER of the LEFT- *BUSH* has told us other wise.

Please Lew convince me the definition part, and the fact that we are winning all the time contrary to what Bush said. Convince us all.

Posted by: Bill Stensin [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 14, 2007 01:43 PM

Bill, you're a grown man, I assume. As such, maybe you can figure somethings out on your own.

As for your "we aren't winning, we aren't losing" shtick, perhaps if you sought a little information on it, instead of blindly accepting whatever you are told by the lamestream media, you'd see that he was quoting.

Right in a Left World: Washington Post Misrepresents President Bush Again

Posted by: Lew Waters [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 14, 2007 03:04 PM

I believe that the only way that Bill could keep up this constant stream of anti-Bush rants without EVER actually saying what we SHOULD do in Iraq (or on any other topic) is that he is actually a team of liberal idiots with the mission to jam this site by polluting it with nonsense.

Bill, hey guys and gals, come clean... one person could not be as obtuse a jerk as you. How many people are you really? Is the whole commune in on it?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 14, 2007 09:50 PM

Call me crazy, but I believe this quote is meanto to show strength:
I think I’m a flexible, open-minded person. I really do. I really do. Take this policy. I spent a lot of time listening to a lot of people because, Scott, I fully understand the decisions I make could affect the life of some kid who wears the uniform. Or could affect the life of some child growing up in America 20 years from now.

So, when someone actually looks at wha's going on, he may need to change his mind. Remember before the invasion when Shinseki said we neeeded a few hundred thousands troops, and was dismissed out of hand, as we were to be greeted as liberators and have a cakewalk? the only sane thing to do is to evaluate what is going on and adjust the strategy. We either keep sending people to die until the Iraqi's love us, or figure out something else.

Anyway, the insurgenc is in it's last throes, and victory is right around the corner. Nothing to fear.
