Gay marriage and the slippery slope?

Andy at Residual Forces has the details. Opponents of legalizing gay marriage have long argued that it would blur the institution of marriage, and that it would lead to polygamy being recognized. Of course, the liberals poo-poohed such a notion.

Folks, it won't be long until the slippery slope, currently north of the border, makes its way south.

Why not three mothers and a father, or four or five or ten? Why not three fathers and seven mothers?

Why do lefties care so much about parenting issues, considering they abort most of their potential offspring and teach the survivors to be mindless, politically correct, professional victims?

Unlike gay marriage, polygamy has a large amount of cultural support over both history and geography. From the multiple wives of kings and emperors, to the 4 wives allowed to each muslim male, to the practices of the early Mormons, which have been continued by some of their splinter groups, polygamy has found places to become culturally entrenched. Gay marriage seems to be largely a modern invention, and thus has much less cultural support.

On the other hand, polygamy doesn't seem to have much of any constituency pushing for its legalization, even among Mormons and American muslims. Nor does it have a convenient accusation of bigotry equivalent to "those who oppose it are homophobes." The slippery slope might be there, but no one seems to be pushing in that direction - so far, anyway.

If i were gay- i'd be a republican just to spite you guys! ;-)

oh well, i can leave that to some of the frineds i have that are gay. THEY BETTER NOT JOIN RIGHTY! LOL

Nice worthless post Bill. Thanks for sharing.

I don't care who gets married. Guys to girls, girls to girls, guys to tree stumps. I don't care. Polygamy makes as much sense to me as any of it. It IS obvious that wording gay marriage laws will probably allow polygamy. And honestly, thats OK with me.

What - gays want to marry but want to reserve the right to be prejudice against someone else?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 8, 2007 10:10 AM

First of all, this ought to be a state-by-state issue.

Second, the fear-mongering of the anti-gay marriage side is reliant upon the "slippery slope" argument. But there is a huge difference between a two people mutually agreeing to marry and one person marrying multiple people.

It functions on an entirely different principle; instead of an entering into a social/legal pact where both parties are equal (mf, mm, ff), polygamy takes advantage of power structures in our society to relegate the position of spouse to one of servitude by saying one sex is so much better that he/she is worthy of x amount of wives.

There are currently thousands of Americans living in the southwest in polygamous communities that I don’t hear anyone lobbying to get rid of. If your argument is that gay marriage will lead to that, why not skip the middle man and go right at the heart of your problem with it?

And Bacon, what about children with divorced and re-married parents? Some have three mothers or four fathers. Are you against step-parents? They often have the same legal rights as the original parents. What about open adoptions?

Third, don't you all want more family involvement? Just think; this kid will have 33% more parenting in his life. A third more love. A third more hugs. Someone 33% more likely to be there when he gets home from school.

Studies have shown there is no difference between children raised in same-sex households. They are not more likely to become homosexual, even though that isn't a bad thing. They are no more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, or shoot up their math class.

The only danger is that children who have learned from their ignorant parents that being gay is somehow wrong will tease, bully, and ostracize a perfectly normal child.

Finally, sure it says in parts of the Bible a man shouldn't lay with another man. It also says don't eat pork, don't plant two crops side-by-side, throw rocks at your mother until she dies if she doesn't wear a hat, slavery is acceptable, and a whole host of antiquated norms which modern Christians have conveniently put aside. But I don’t see the movement to outlaw football (who combine two sins, the touching of a pig’s skin and working on Sunday).

Same sex marriage; like interracial marriage, Prohibition, and female ankle exposure were all once seen as the final straw which would break humankind’s back, but their critics were proved false and laughable. Soon the same will be said for this issue. And Jesus still won’t come back.

BS...what's a "frineds"

You know, a typo or such every now and then is OK because we all do it. But this is ridiculous!

No one can take you seriously when you can't spell.

Are you dyslexic?

Posted by: navydad [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 8, 2007 10:40 AM

Yeah Kahn that's it.

Gay's are secretly plotting against homo phobes to not marry heterosexually. I know, i was surprised too. All the conspiracy by the right was true!

look out the gays are telling us not to mary!! run!!

Navy- no wonder you were in the Navy- the Army would have told you to cut your hair and not sleep so tight with your bunk mate.

Posted by: Bill Stensin [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 8, 2007 10:47 AM

Ah, nothing gets me going in the morning more than a lefty (that's you Bill) using homophobic remarks in a lame attempt at humor. I thought you trolls were more considerate and progressive than we conservatives.

Why do your actions consistently demonstrate otherwise?

Got a problem with homosexuals Bill?

Posted by: GOP 4 ME [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 8, 2007 12:08 PM

Bill,

Now I know you're a little slow so I'll try to be clearer. I don't care who gets married.

I have seen gay advocates fall all over themselves explaining that THEY should be able to marry but polygamy should not be allowed. THAT is the predjudice I was writing about. Got it (you simpleton)?

So, rather than trashing everyone else - tell us how YOU feel about it Bill. Is Gay marriage OK? Is polygamy OK? If not, why not? Again, I don't care if you want to marry a ham sandwhich.

Kahn Kahn Kahn Kahn Kahn Kahn Kahn

you see you again lie to entire group. You trashed 1st. let me post your quote "Nice worthless post Bill. Thanks for sharing."

gee did that or did it not pre-date anything i wrote?

let me see- hypocrisy? and lies? not from the right.

Look if you want to trash go ahead...but please don't lie about it. being a trasher and a hypocrite is one thing. Being a liar on top of it...what else could you do to embarrass yourself and your Righty buds?

Posted by: Bill Stensin [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 8, 2007 04:42 PM

Kahn,
This is one area that you and I agree. I really don't care who marries who. I also agree with Anillo that this should be a states issue instead of a federal issue. And Bill, if you have an opinion about the post then let us hear it. Snarky comments and insults don't add must to the conversation.

Posted by: Casper [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 8, 2007 06:09 PM

Anillo,
I just want to let you know how much I appreciate you comments. While I don't always agree with them, they are always well thought out and well articulated.

"Navy- no wonder you were in the Navy- the Army would have told you to cut your hair and not sleep so tight with your bunk mate."

This is indecipherable gibberish!

BS

I think I'll submit this post to Ripley's Believe It Or Not as the most in-comprehensible statement of all time, right next to John Kerry's "I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it" quote.

"Kahn Kahn Kahn Kahn Kahn Kahn Kahn

Bill, Bill, Bill, You made this post:
If i were gay- i'd be a republican just to spite you guys! ;-)

oh well, i can leave that to some of the frineds i have that are gay. THEY BETTER NOT JOIN RIGHTY! LOL Posted by: Bill Stensin at January 8, 2007 09:52 AM

And I followed it 13 minutes later. In MY universe, thats me following you. Your post was little more than insulting dribble. You never even stated if you were for Gay marriage and how you felt about polygamy. Which is the ostensible (look it up) reason for this string.

I have, by the way seen Democrats repeatedly use the gayness of Republican family members to attack political opponents. I watched Democrat leadership sit on the Foley case (while apparently letting what they considered to be abuse keep on happening) until just before an election. By the way, since all the pages in that case were of age, Foley's only "crime" was being gay and liking younger ADULT men.

The Republican leadership may have been at fault for telling him to keep his legal contacts at bay, but Democrats who knew ALL the details were definately at fault for doing nothing. They waited until it would hurt Republicans to disclose it - but they did nothing for MONTHS to stop it. You must be so proud.

1. In Ontario, a woman can legally walk topless down mainstreet(or any street). The Supreme Court said so.
2. And of course, the multiple legal parents issue recently upheld by some Ontario court.
3. And gay marriage has been legal for a while. Another court decision.
4. Canada has no death penalty. The last execution(hanging was out method) was carried out in 1962.
5. We have medicare for all citizens
6. We are not as cold as we use to be. But the polar bears are grumbling.
7. We Canadians are not hated by the rest of the world (well most of it) unlike you blockhead republicans
8. Item #1 was the best court decision. However sightings are rare in winter.
Only in Canada!
Eat your hearts out, you Mercans.

Canukguy, hows the crime rate since you outlawed guns? Gone down has it?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 8, 2007 10:38 PM

Canuck- although i personally am for the death penalty. There are some deeper left things that are pretty lame. Prisoner rights etc. I have to give it to righty on a few issues. VERY FEW.

OMG don't let them hear i agree with them! oh no! ;-)

Posted by: Bill Stensin [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 9, 2007 07:48 AM

Oh, Kahn, thanks for another addition to my list, our billion dollar gun registry, I had forgotten.

I believe I read that in fact crime, gun murders in particular, has gone down on average in Canada over the past decade. I would not give the bullion dollar boondoogle full credit for that as our criminals either steal legal guns or import them illegally from the good old USA. However we have pockets of big city crime and murder often centered around poor ethnics types plus our Hell Angels gangs.

Nothing like your New Orleans crime rate however.

Posted by: Canuckguy [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 9, 2007 12:52 PM

Bill, regarding prisoner rights. Ours won the right to vote in elections. I don't know if Mercan jailbirds have that right or not. I guess the lefy types loves that sort of thing.

And there are several murderous criminals up here that should be dropped like Sadamm. But we also dropped some innocent people in the past so that resulted in an atmosphere where the death penalty can never return.

Posted by: Canuckguy [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 9, 2007 01:01 PM

Casper -

Thanks man! It would be nice if more people would try to elevate the discussions here, but then again, it would be nice if more people brushed their teeth too, so...yeah.

Thanks again though.

Posted by: Anillo at January 9, 2007 08:21 PM

Canuck- yeah those guys blkew it for the real criminals! LOL

hey- If anyone has been to a USPS office lately you might take a gander at the various flyers in and about on the counters.

I am not kidding that i saw a flyer that said something to this effect:

"Victims, YOU have rights too"

Well i'll be damned! No really i will. I can not beleive that we actually have to advertise somethig so abundantly obvious. You guys are aware that criminals and illegals have more benifits than the veterans in this country, right?

I suppose you knew that. But just wanted to toss that out.
