If you are a CEO, defense contractor or a Bush lackey the economy is serving you well these days.
But a majority of Americans who face rising health care costs, increases in education tuitions and flat wage increases, the picture is far less rosy.
If th economy was truly healthy at it's base and if it was truly broad based perhaps more Americans would support Bush and rate the economic policies of Republicans with higher marks.
In reality, this country may be headed for very hard times. The growth of the federal debt to $10 trillion under Republican mismanagement will eventually effect our economy.
The trade deficit and the mushrooming personal debt are both unsustainable economic paths. There are plenty of warning signs.
But Bush and his corporate sponsors are only in it for short term profits and are cashing out America's future.

Yep, CO, something is amiss.
It's called Bush Derangement Syndrome, otherwise known as BDS.
When the Dems and the media (who are mostly Dems) have to take the opposite opinion from any that President Bush takes, it's easy to see that they cannot admit or accept that the economy is good-hence all the complaints and continual ancedotal information that "proves" the economy is very bad.
There will always be those who are not doing well. Yes, even during Democrat administrations this will be so. But it is disingenuous to use ancedotal senarios to "prove" a poor economy.
The facts taken as a whole show that the economy is doing well. No matter how much BDS afflicted individuals scream about a poor economy, it doesn't change the fact that it is not the truth.

Canadian Observer,
You have to stop getting your information from chris matthews and andrew sullivan. The american people are not leaving President Bush in droves. I know dems have polls on the brain. According to the most consistently accurate poll, the Rassmussen poll which tracks President Bush's approval EVERY DAY, today it was at 44 percent. President Bush's approval rating has been in the mid 40's for quite some time, not some nonsense polls weighted heavily in favor of dems to get some bogus number. President Bush is the greatest type of leader. He does what is right, even though what is right might be terribly difficult. He makes decisions based upon principle, even though it might make him unpopular. I,like many, love President Bush for this. President Bush is a leader who loves to tackle tough issues head on, like fighting World War III, immigration and social security reform, even though he may take heat from his own party. He is a man of character, honor, integrity, honesty and courage. On the other hand, the dems take their positions on polls. They have no principle other than winning an election. They don't even care how easy it is to see their completey contradictory statements made a short time ago, as long as they take the position that the days poll says they should take. President Bush is interested in solving problems and getting things done, and his biggest concern is keeping america safe, not win a popularity contest.
Posted by: james allegro at January 31, 2007 08:13 PM
James,
If you are going to use a poll, at least use it accuracely. Bush's only rating in the mid 40s was today at 44%. His ratings have bounced between 38 and 42% for the last couple of weeks.you could also include the following from the same poll:
"However, a separate survey of Likely Voters finds that just 36% give the President good or excellent ratings for this performance in office. Eighteen percent (18%) say he’s doing a fair job, while 45% say poor."
"For President Bush, the numbers are less optimistic. Just 33% believe that a temporary surge in U.S. troop strength in Iraq will be successful. Sixty-two percent (62%) say it is not likely to succeed. There is similar skepticism concerning other proposals mentioned in the State-of-the-Union Address."
I have no problem giving Bush credit for the economy, but his foreign policy has been a disaster.
Posted by: Casper at January 31, 2007 09:26 PM
Casper, No, Clinton was an example of a foreign policy disaster. A foreign policy that ignored attack after attack, even the 93 WTC bombing could not light a fire under them. North Korea proceesing plutonium while clinton did nothing, worse helped it occur through shattering niavete. All the while bin laden planning the 9/11 attack under clintons nose leading to 3,000 dead. The taliban controlling afghanistan planning attacks against the USA, saddam filling mass graves with hundreds of thousands, rwandans killing each other by hundreds of thousands, the USA running from somolia with its tail between its legs. That is a foreign policy disaster. President Bush, like every issue, is hitting this problem head on. Taliban gone, saddam gone, somolia cleared of terrorists in coordination with Ethiopian forces, moulahhs in iran soon to be gone. The fighting is tough in Iraq, but that is where the evil folks (no, not us, the terrorists) have decided to make their stand. It is called taking action, and not just the oral kind.

YOu see, there has to be one more economic indicator before the Media and leftists in general will admit to a 'good economy' - a democrat as president. If every single one of those indicators was lesser than it is now, but a democrat occupied the white house, this woudl be touted as "The hottest economy since the roaring twenties"
Instead, with better numbers and a Republican president, they try to tout it as the worst economy since Herbert Hoover. See, for the Media, the leading economic indicator is the part of the person in the white house.

Casper, I'm not saying things are going great in Iraq. It is a tough fight, primarily because the terrorists know how important Iraq is. Iran and syria know this and they are doing everything they can to cause nasty pictures in time for the 5:00 PM news. It is a fight that we must win. A strategy change is taking place now and deserves a chance. Its chances look good. Things looked pretty tough during World War II when the war was supposed to be over by Christmas 1944, but then we had 81,000 casualties during one battle, the Battle of the Bulge, over 100,000 casualties during the battle of Okinawa, then there's guadicanal, iwa jima, etc. The landing on D-Day went real well too. We only lost 3,000 on the first day. We also got our asses kicked in the Philipines, Bataann, in Africa when we first fought the germans. Sounds like a quagmire. War is tough and this is a war we must win. It's time for serious people to concentrate on winning the war and put aside their weird hatred of President Bush.
