The White House has just made available The Advancing Stem Cell Science without Destroying Human Life Report on their website in PDF format.

Matt, et all
My preliminary comments on this are that the push for scientific research should go forward. I personally advoate any and all methods of research. As i am not going to discourage 1 over the other.
i mean if the objective is to truly find some benificial cures, or even leads, then i say go for what works. But i do at least give some credit to the right for at least pushing for SOME research here.
I think the adavantage of persuing both methods though is in NOT LIMITING the research. You reall can't be objective by ruling ou 1 over teh other. And that unfortunatley is the stance from the right. IF you rule 1 method out...then you limit the push forward in research.
Any way- the overall picture is good to have some solid research. BTW keep in mind as many on the right will argue- "if we don't do it another country will". So in adhering to the christian freeze on embryonic research, we can assume that other countries will lead the way in front of us.

One HUGE thing anti-embryonic stem cell (EST) advocates never answer is: why does the fact that the material which would be used from fertilization clinics for EST research is thrown away not upset you?
In other words, if you are going to raise an issue now, why didn’t you and – more importantly – why don’t you raise an issue with the practice of harvesting excess embryos for implantation in those seeking to get pregnant?
You’ve kept silent for years on the practice of discarding these “potential lives”. Putting this material into the trash can or incinerator is no different than putting it in a laboratory and in fact, does less with its potential than could be garnered from its existence if it were used in research.
And on top of that, if Bush truly saw it as murder, he would prohibit private research; not just ban federal funding. What he is doing now is like outlawing the death penalty but giving the green light to vigilantes.

Anillo- shhh it's because if stem cell research leads to some cure of some form, then phizer and others will have to also find a cure for cancer.
duhh eveyone knows theres no money in finding cures! You know keep the sick spending.
duuuuubya
but great points. murder is murder is murder. Also a great point on the use of discarded stuff. But again that ties into my response on cures. LOL
hmm seems to me like the right wing was complaing about "test tube" babies back in the day. That was UNTIL it happened to them and he needed the science to knock mamma up. I suppose in the case of Stem Cell research Nancy Reagans pleas are falling on deaf ears....for now.
Hey I bet Rush Limbaugh thinks Ronald Reagan is faking his death.....or just didn't take his meds.
