Half a loaf is better than none:
Baghdad-London -- There are still more consequences to the wave of assassinations targeting Sunni political and religious figures participating in the political process, and the killing of 42 police recruits in Ramadi by extremist Islamist followers of Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of "al-Qaeda's Organization in the Land of the Two Rivers." A new escalation took the form of additional Arab Sunni tribal clans joining the campaign aimed at liquidating this organization.
The "Popular Clan Committees" launched a large campaign chasing Zarqawi's group in Ramadi "in order to expel them to Syria beyond Iraqi borders." Sheikh Osama al-Jedaan, the head of the al-Karabila clan in Qa'im, on the Syrian border, said that the "Clan Committees" have started a military campaign against the "terrorists," asserting that security formations composed of Ramadi inhabitants are searching for people wanted by the Iraqi government and by their own "government." He emphasized that this operation aims at expelling from Iraqi borders "foreigners and intruders" coming from other states of the region. Six armed groups belonging to "the Iraqi resistance" recently declared war on Zarqawi's "terrorist" organization.
They stll claim they want to fight us, but they also seem determined to no longer work with - and, indeed, will fight against - the foreign terrorists who are seeking to destroy Iraqi democracy. We can work with this...as the Sunni battle the terroirsts, we can turn more and more of Anbar and other Sunni areas over to Iraq forces and pull our troops out. The Sunni get what they want: no Zarqawi, no Americans. Sounds like a deal to me.

Why don't we hear about this in the lib MSM. Where is chris matthews, jack cafferty, lou dobbs, cnn, msnbc. This is great news that the sunnis are fighting al queda. If the sunnis turn on al queda and other foreign terrorists, the terrorists have no chance of succeeding. How can zarkawi and al queda be freedom fighters like our own forefathers, as michael moore states, when all the iraqis are turning on them.

Though I definately support the Sunnis' want to purge their own land of the Terrorists, but I do think that it could be counter-productive to Iraqi democracy.
This "Popular Clan Committee" is basically an organization that is working outside of the control the the Iraqi government; aka: a group of vigilantes.
Though I support a limited amount of civilian law enforcement in established democracies (aka: Minute Man Project), when a government has not yet assumed the full mantle of control, and groups are carrying out operations outside of the control of the governmet, it starts a bad precedent of vigilantism in Iraq.

Frawg, do you ever see good in anything? This is a good thing. We want to leave, the terrorists want to take over and create another terrorist state. The Sunni's are finally seeing the light. They realize the sooner the terrorists leave the sooner we will leave. Be optimistic about something for heaven's sake. It must be awful for you to be so pesimistic about everything. Life must really suck for you.

the sunnis aren't fighting zarqawi or al qaeda. don't believe the hype. the sunnis hate the shia and vice versa.
according to US estimates there are upto 10,000 foreign fighters in iraq. there are 30,000 iraq security forces backed by 150,000 US troops and they still can't get zarqawi or defeat the insurgency after 2 years. 180,000 v 10,000 and you still can't beat them. thats lame dude!.
its zarqawi is not fighting on his own. there is a sunni backed insurgency taking place with zarqawi only a part of it. most of it is iraqi sunnis. its a sectarian war like lebanon in the 80s except far worse.
mission far from accomplished.
good luck fellas!. :-)
