Sore Loser Syndrome

Kerry calls for filibuster of Alito.

Does Alito not pass the "global test?"

Meanwhile, Kerry is not ruling out another presidential run.

In all seriousness, a filibuster of Alito led by John Kerry would be an incredible show. Could you imagine the guy who couldn't even excite a crowd of "supporters" during the 2004 campaign try to filibuster the nominee of his former presidential opponent, who now has bipartisan support? It would be a disaster for Kerry and his party. However, enough Democrats have come out either in support of Alito's confirmation or against a filibuster that we have the votes for cloture.

Those who believe they will benefit from a deeply divided nation have to call for a filibuster. The issue is not whether you win or loose, but to keep up the fight. The last hope for those without power is to obstruct consensus at every turn.

Jeez... how could anyone vote for that guy...?

Posted by: Georgia Frawg [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2006 05:55 PM

If Kerry started an actual filibuster, the other 43 DemocRAT senators would quickly vote for cloture, and they'd lead that old coot, Jumpin' Jim Jeffords (I-VT) to the hall to vote for cloture.

Kerry is still a nobody; I listen to his speeches when I have insomnia. Frawg, insomnia means "trouble falling asleep." Sorry about using big words...

After kerry lost the last election, he's probably more popular in north vietnam, than he is in the USA. Kerry will probably flip flop and say he opposes a filibuster once he gets the polls that americans support Judge Alito's confirmation.

John Kerry, the gift that keeps on giving. Karl Rove, you magnificant bastard! How did you engineer this!

Posted by: james allegro at January 26, 2006 06:36 PM

Could Kerry be suffering from early signs of dementia? It may explain these increasingly weird choices of late by him.

Posted by: Carl at January 26, 2006 06:43 PM

You guys know he got 49% of the vote right? I mean you do know its not like 50 thousand people that voted for kerry, it was over 50 million. I'm not saying you can't put him down, but his performance in the election almost one it, Bush won but not by much... Peace

"Sore loser", do you really believe it is good for the republic to pack the Court with 5 Opus Dei Catholic men? Peace

Posted by: steve at January 26, 2006 07:41 PM

I eard a sound bite of Spitball today, mentioning that you can judge a person by who their friends are or by the company they keep. He then implied that Ann Coulter was some of the "company" Alito keeps. He also named Pat Buchanon as an Alito supporter.

So...is Kerry a North Vietnamese commie, or what?

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 26, 2006 07:46 PM

Remembering Kerry's wooden demeanor and droning speeches, he could make a thirty-second comment sound like a filibuster.

too right, keefer. BTW, how did having someone support you become keeping company with that person? As if Kerry could be judged by every single person who voted for him, even those who are actually alive who actually only voted once.

What in the hell do you guys have in the water up in Massachusetts? between Kennedy who murdered a young lady and Kerry who murdered Vietnam kids they have the balls to tell the rest of us that have "concerns"

bastards is too nice a word, but the only one that comes to mind right now

actually, I would consider ten million+ people alot stevey. I also would go so far as to say most of those 50 mill. give or take a few were voting against George Bush, NOT for John Kerry. Which I would personally like to thank the media for(sarcasm). I think George Bush would have had 75 Mill.+ votes if it weren't for the biased media coverage of Iraq & G.B. Oh by the way stevey, PEACE OUT, DUDE!

The liberal media created a caricature of President Bush that in no way resembled the man except in their fevered imaginations. That image is what most people voted against. Fortuanately, the MSM has lost their monopoly and the truth about the President also got out. That courageous, steadfast LEADER is who most people voted for. I believe that if the MSM had told the truth about the President and Senator Kerry we would have seen a Reaganesque result for President Bush.

bearman, I think it was Evan Thomas of Newsweek who said publicly on one of the TV talk shows shortly before the election that the "biased media coverage" was worth around 15% to Kerry. That makes your numbers about right. It's akin to winning a basketball game in spite of the fact that the referees are bought and paid for by your opponent.

Oh, and Almiranta, I took my granddaughter to the circus tonight, and I just finished reading the comments on this and the preceeding threads. You were on a roll tonight.

And I quote:

"The president has every right to nominate Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court," Kerry said. "Its our right and our responsibility to oppose him vigorously and to fight against this radical upending of the Supreme Court."

Your right and responsibilty, Senator Kerry, is to "advise and consent", not to "fight against".

Posted by: Burky at January 26, 2006 11:51 PM

The only thing better than Kerry making this announcement from Switzerland could have been him doing this from Paris...
What a total freak. I am embarrassed to have lived in the state he represents. Perhaps the only thing worse could be having Ted Kennedy as your Senator....er...uh...never mind.

Posted by: John at January 27, 2006 12:30 AM

I agree with Burky - it is the senate's reponsiblity to "advise and consent," not "fight against." This has become a media war and the time has come to make a vote. A filibuster only leads to more dangerous results for future nominees and further divides the parties. Americans want an answer, not an excuse...

Posted by: Lola at January 27, 2006 11:04 AM

Kerry has made a poor political move. Bush, however, made a brilliant political move by nominating the most qualified legal mind to the Supreme Court in over 70 years. It's time to end the senseless debate and confirm Judge Sam Alito!

Posted by: Louise at January 27, 2006 11:51 AM

Louise I couldn't have said it better. One would have thought losing a presidential election would have taught him the values the majority of Americans have and how this drives their voting patterns. Alito will be confirmed and Kerry will once again lose a political battle. Bush has nominated a great legal mind and American to become a justice on the Supreme Court.
