I was amused today during the Judiciary Committee vote on Alito, as well as during the hearings a few weeks ago, when Democrats brought up Harriet Miers and said she should have been given a chance for a vote and blah, blah, blah... Now they call her an independent, or suggest that her being a woman would have been good for the Supreme Court...
Of course, I have no memory of such laudatory comments about Miers from the Democrats back when she still was the nominee, in fact, there was plenty of concern from Democrats that Miers would not be independent because of her relationship with President Bush, being his lawyer and all. We heard during Alito's questioning plenty of accusations by the Democrats that he favored too much executive power... Well, I think it is safe to say their rhetoric would have been at least three times as bad if it were Miers in the hot seat.
Democrats have claimed the "extreme right wing" forced Bush to withdraw the nomination... But let's face it, even Democrats were predicting she didn't have the votes to even get out of committee...

I agree, the Dems spin things any way they can to be obstructionists. Nothing is more hypocritical than the fact that he was confirmed unanimously by the Senate for 3rd Circuit Court and even praised by Ted Kennedy; what's changed? Anyway, it appears that none of their song and dance means anything as enough Sneators are on board with Judge Alito.
