Mainstream Alito

We've already seen a number of national polls confirming that a majority of voters support Alito's confirmation... In addition to that, Alito's support is strong according a number of state polls.

UPDATE: More red state Democrats will vote to confirm Alito...

COINCIDENCE?: Senator Robert Byrd announced his support for Alito hours after John Raese, Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from West Virginia, (Byrd's new opponent) declared his support of Alito. Raese made the following statement earlier today:

“If I were in the Senate today I would proudly cast my vote to confirm Judge Alito to the Supreme Court. Over three days of hearings Judge Alito answered some 700 questions and, like Chief Justice John Roberts, proved himself to be exactly the kind of judge America needs on the high court – a man who subscribes to a philosophy of judicial restraint and independence. Judge Alito has a 15-year record demonstrating this commitment to the rule of law on the federal bench. Our federal court system, in numerous cases, has overreached its bounds --- legislating from the bench instead of fairly interpreting the Constitution. We’ve recently seen the Supreme Court undercut private property rights and a federal appeals court try to remove the words “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance. President Bush has nominated an exceptionally qualified individual in Sam Alito and I would definitely vote to confirm him if I were in the Senate today.”
Byrd must know he's in for a touch election.

the link is a picture from the above update to your thread, which proves that it's status quo for the donks when it comes to GOP Supreme Court nominees.

Rush said that Byrd went off on the Senate floor today, blasting his own for their behaviour. And he's voting for Alito--Alioto for you Teddy the Drunk Swimmer fans.

I guess my 63-37 confirmation was a little off, but we're getting another quality justice on the high bench. Life is good; now let's get those borders taken care of!

I keep expecting Sen. Byrd to one day lose his balance fall to the floor of the Senate and burst into a pile of dust while bats fly out. I often imagine them flying up to the top of the Senate and hanging from the ceiling. That man is O-L-D.

Posted by: Skinny Republican at January 26, 2006 03:05 PM

I respect Byrd's insistance on not going party-line for this vote. Independent-minded politicians are the ones who are doing our country the most good.

That being said, I think that Alito would be a good addition to the Court, and I am confident that he has enough respect for precedent not to overturn Roe...

John Raese is running against Robert Byrd because the Republican Party can't find anyone else to run. Shelley Capito is afraid that she'll lose her seat in the House in exchange for never gaining Byrd's seat in the Senate. Raese was a second choice to Gale Catlett, former WVU basketball coach. I wonder how that makes him feel...

Robert Byrd doesn't have "tough" elections.

I've been advised to ask all libs this question: If SCOTUS overturns Roe, does that make abortion illegal?

To dopes like Frawg-arse, precedent means "etched in stone." So, where's my slaves? And, how come my best friend in the third grade, in 1965, was a black kid? How the hell did he get into my school?

I don't think Alito--Alioto for you, Frawg-arse--will be able to overturn Roe on his own. But God help you libs if Bader-Ginsberg, Stevens, Kennedy, or Souter either expire or resign between now and 2008. We're goin' after that bad piece of "settled law," and we're gonna get it. Abortion should be decided by the states; i.e., let the people vote on it.

Guys, every time I post, I get errors, or it doesn't recognize me through TypeKey, or whatever. Any suggestions?

Anyhoo, I was watching the confirmation debates on C-Span2; that asshat Levin (D-MI) was bloviating, i.e., lying. I gave him the one-finger salute and turned the volume down. Would someone please tell him how stupid he looks with those glasses so low on his nose. Wait, he's a liberal--he's SoS.

I googled General Shinsecki's name, trying to find something about this man who lets the libs do his bidding. I came across this rather amusing post in some lefty-kook blog:

July 6, 2004

HOORAY, IT'S KERRY AND EDWARDS IN 2004!

* * *

Now, how about William Jefferson Clinton for Secretary of State, Wesley Clark as Secretary of Defense, Howard Dean as Secretary of Health and Human Services, Gray Davis as Secretary of Energy, Ted Kennedy as Attorney General, Dick Gephardt for Secretary of Labor, General Shinsecki as Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Moore as Secretary of Education, Max Cleland as Secretary of Veteran's Affairs, Tom Vilsack as Secretary of Agriculture, Carol Mosley Braun as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Al Sharpton as Secretary of Commerce, Dennis Kucinich as Secretary of Transportation, George Soros as Secretary of the Treasury, and Ralph Nader as Secretary of Department of the Interior? Oh, and by the way, Joe Wilson to head the CIA!

Dream on, donk-turd kook libs. hahahaha!!!

If SCOTUS overturns Roe, does that make abortion illegal?

It looks like it.

The next question is: Is life-long sexual abstinence equivalent to abortion? Either way, there is no child. Will abstinence be the next crime against life?

Posted by: Robert K Meyer Jr at January 26, 2006 05:05 PM

Senator DeMint, junior Republican from my second state, South Carolina, is nailing it with his comments on the Senate floor. He recalled something the not-so-great Junior senator from MA said yesterday. While I can't recall exactly what it was, it had something to do with Spitball Kerry saying something like "I could imagine/visualize Alito sitting there with Karl Rove whispering in his ear..."

Looks like ol' Spitball is trying to solidify his base for '08. You know what I'd like to see? Kerry as president, with a super-majority GOP Senate and about a 335-100 GOP majority in the House.

I'm listening to some talking-point parrot lib argue with Hannity about how much better life is in Cuba, according to all the talking points he's been fed at the re-education camp. You donk-turd libs are hilarious; please keep calling the talk shows that people actually listen to--Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, Savage, Liddy, all the conservative icons. Because when you call Scare America, you get nothing but chirping crickets. And we need you, because laughter is the best medicine...

BZZZZZZT wrong!!! Robert you had a 50/50 chance and you got it wrong. Try again

What? So you're saying every state in the Union would ban Abortion? Seriously? Are you a Californian too because Feinstien said the same bloody thing in a press conference here recently.

Honestly all overturning Roe would do is kick the idea back to the states. Now if the Federal government decides to pass a law banning abortion then yes then it'd be illegal but I'm not sure I see that happening either.

As for your Anti-Abstinence sentance. What?

How the heck is Abstinence anything like an Abortion? An abortion requires you to have created a life and then destroying it. Abstinence keeps you from even creating one.

I've never understood the pro-abortion crowd...

This has to be one of the most incredibly ignorant posts I have ever seen on this blog!

Robert, do you even know what the definition of abortion is??

For heavens sake, wise up!!

When I was a teenager I figured I should wait with sex until I found, or God brought me to, the perfect woman for me. Then the stroke happened and everything was chaos. I had to learn to talk again, walk again, get a full time job, et cetera, all the while there was one secondary health problem after another. There were just too many more urgent things to deal with than looking for a mate. The little free time I did have I spent on the Bible, Shakespeare, and Mozart. Now, in my 50s, it seems like the time for love is well passed. I'm not 'crying in my beer' about it or anything, it's just a fact of life; and I'm guessing that it's OK with God that I did not create any new life. But there was a discussion in a Bible study that I was in a couple of years ago where the topic of abortion was brought up and I questioned that possibly in the case of rape it would be appropriate. I was told that life is so precious that even in that case it would be wrong. If that's the case, maybe I wasted my whole life being abstinent. It wasn't my goal to have a total life of abstinence, it just happened that way; but when I'm around "pro-life" people, it seems like they are looking down on me. I suppose it's not really that important, as long I myself know that God's forgiveness of me is not dependent what other people think.

Posted by: Robert K Meyer Jr at January 27, 2006 02:04 AM

Robert K Meyer Jr, you seem to have a rather...unique way of looking at things. If I may, I think you are mixing several concepts together.

"The next question is: Is life-long sexual abstinence equivalent to abortion? Either way, there is no child."

The answer is no, life-long sexual abstinence is not equivalent to abortion. Abstinence and abortion are two totally different concepts. Abortion is a sin. Abstinence outside of marriage is not a sin. Robert, the Bible says that it's not a sin to never marry and to remain celibate throughout one's life. This gives a person more time to devote to the service and worship of God (since the individual does not have a spouse and children to take care of).

Merriam-Webster defines abortion as: "the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus".

In other words, a life which has already been created is terminated. With abstinence, no one dies. No one is created. No one is killed. These are two totally different concepts.

Robert, it sounds like you want to marry. Don't give up hope! Pray to God to send you a wife.

Robert,

Lame, lame, lame, lame...

Abortion and abstinence, the same?

Posted by: GOP 4 ME [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 27, 2006 02:44 PM

Thanks for the good wishes Freedom1, but my happiness or unhappiness is a bit trivial. God has much more things to deal with than the feelings of one created being. I'm just trying to understand God as best I can, without following what other people say; because there are always different opinions, each one saying "Listen to me, I know the truth, everyone else is wrong." I figure it's best to ignore people and instead go to the source documents. Thanks again.
