Bush Ready To Veto...

...if Congress overspends.

President George W. Bush, who has never vetoed legislation, said on Thursday he was ready to do so this year if the U.S. Congress approves too much government spending.

"I'm fully prepared to use the veto if they overspend," Bush told a news conference.

Speaking as it was announced that the U.S. budget deficit would hit $337 billion this year, Bush also said he would welcome legislation to discourage the use of "earmarks," or targeted spending that lawmakers often use for pet projects in their districts. Such measures are often added in secret to spending bills.

Bring it on, Mr. President.

..it will be a refreshing change and about time. Now if we could only get the President and Congress to shut down the borders.

Seriously, if they start to do those sort of things, they might just cause a sea change and run the remainder of the Democrats out of Washington.

I wish he'd vetoed the billions in the Medicare mess. But no. he touts that disaster as a victory.

It's about time the President took the debt seriously...

/Agreed

About time he threaten to use the bugger! It's one of his greatest powers and he hasn't used it nearly enough.

I'll believe it when I see it. The Repubs are all show and no go when it comes to cutting spending. If they were serious about the deficit they wouldn't insist on so many tax cuts in a time of war.

Actually he's the only president never to use it.

Congress needs to dust off the old Contract With America and get back to work.
