What Media Bias? Part 78

A lot of our liberal/left readers have accused me of living in a dream world about Iraq - their contention being that it is a disaster, and I'm just too willfully blind to admit it. My contention, on the other hand, is that the news out of Iraq which would lead one to think it is a disaster is, well, a pack of lies dressed up as news. Flopping Aces has a prime example of this. First, via an AP story:

...police and witnesses said U.S. soldiers shot and killed 11 civilians and wounded five on Sunday night in the Baghdad suburb of Husseiniya. The U.S. military said it had no record of any American military operation in the area.

"We were sitting inside our house when the Americans showed up and started firing at homes. They killed many people and burned some houses," said one of the witnesses, a man with bandages on his head who was being treated at Imam Ali Hospital in the Shiite slum of Sadr City. The police and witnesses spoke with Associated Press Television News on condition of anonymity to protect their own security.

On Monday, about 250 people attended a memorial service outside the hospital's morgue for the 11 victims, saying it was being conducted in the slum because the dead had been followers of the radical anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. The cleric and his Madhi Army militia are both based in Sadr City. (emphasis added)

Got that? Yet another horrific action by US troops who are murderous and ineffectual in an out of control situation in Iraq...makes you want to pack up and leave as soon as possible, doesn't it? Well, not so fast - Flopping Aces also got this bit of info:

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED//FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY

Sir -

Reference the clarification requested on the story by AP below.

Anti-Iraqi Forces opened fire, targeting civilians in the al-Husseiniya area. 10 civilians were killed and six wounded at 11 p.m. Nov. 26. The incident was reported by the Iraqi Police through the Joint National Operations Center (a civilian matter relayed to the Coalition for tracking purposes). There was no Coalition involvement.

v/r

Capt. J. Elaine Hunnicutt (USAF)

Multi-National Corps - Iraq
Joint Operations Center
PAO OIC Nights (emphasis added)

So, a terrorist attack taken care of by the Iraqi police is reported in the MSM as a murderous American botch-job...does anyone want to say this is the first time a news report out of Iraq has been this much at variance with the facts?

I'm telling ya, lefties, what you think you know about Iraq is complete BS.

Good work, the media bias, especially in the print media, is blatent. I am a new blogger, and I wrote a short blog on media bias yesterday. You should check it out: peaceamidchaos.blogspot.com
I plan to add a link to your page.

what you think you know about Iraq is complete BS

You think we found WMDs in Iraq. You think the war in Iraq is a shining success. You have zero credibility when it comes to Iraq. But hey, it's easier to be a Bushie than to educate yourself, as you so adroitly demonstrate.

SeesThroughIt

Have you been to Iraq and know the conditions on the ground or are you just spewing the democratic message?

Have you been to Iraq and know the conditions on the ground or are you just spewing the democratic message?

tom, SeesThroughSh*t isn't old enough to go to Iraq; he can't leave the backyard without mommy...

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 05:52 PM

I can't find that AP story by googling any combination of Husseiniya, associated, press, military. Any help? I would like to see the whole report.

Posted by: Aztec at November 28, 2006 05:59 PM

I've been to Iraq as much as Mark Noonan has. I just know better than to cling to a discredited party line.

So, Tom, do you also believe that we found WMDs in Iraq? And if so, would you care to explain why you are calling President Bush, who has stated on the record that we did not find WMDs in Iraq, a liar?

Posted by: SeesThroughIt at November 28, 2006 06:04 PM

Only Mark can point to "10 civilians were killed and six wounded" by Anti-Iraqi Forces as good news...

ok you're right, everything's just peachy over there, except of course for the 10 civilians killed and six wounded, but you don't care about them as long as you can make it look like the media is to blame...

this is why you are "living in a dream world about Iraq"...or you can prove us all wrong and, you know, just go...send us some pics, you say it ain't that bad..what's holding up your trip?

Posted by: Opus [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 07:07 PM

Hey Opussy, why don't you go and take some pics, so you can prove it's as bad as you kool-aid drinkers claim. Of course, the DBM tells you it's real bad, so it must be true.

Hey, congrats, you made it through a post without mentioning your favourite sex partner--sheep. Did you read about your first sexual encounter in another thread on this blog? Stand by...

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 07:30 PM

A blast from the past, for you, Opuss:

In case anyone was curious as to why Opuss mentions "sheep" so much, here's the alleged transcript of an Opuss interview:

Q: Opuss, tell us about your first time.

Opuss: We were out in a meadow. She and I lay down in the soft, cool grass, and made passionate love. Her mother just stood there, watching.

Q: Her mother watched? What did she have to say about this?

Opuss: Baaaahhh!!!

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 07:39 PM

Queefer sheep,

you're right, that did happen, but just because you're mother could use a shave is no reason to call her a sheep, though she does smell like she's been sleeping in a barn, how did you live in the same house as her w/ that stench?
and having your grandmother there was a bit strange but man, talk about know how to work it, was your grandmother in porn or what...good times..good times

Posted by: Opus [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 07:46 PM

Opus,

Some times you can be an amazingly obtuse person - I do wonder if you need me to draw you a picture so that you can understand some really rather simple concepts. I'll try and make this understandable even for you:

The AP passed a story saying that American soldiers had killed 11 Iraqi civilians - the actual story is that terrorists killed 10 Iraqi civilians, and Iraqi security forces handled the problem - The United States was in no way, shape or form involved.

The AP story, Opus, is a lie...and it isn't the first lie passed by the MSM about what is going on in Iraq.

You'd think that when confronted with a bald-faced lie you'd start asking a few questions, but coming on here to insult me is more your speed.

Pathetic.

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 08:13 PM

Mark,
no, the AP didn't lie, the witness lied,
what is pathetic is you keep trying blame all wrongs on the media...yeah the media lies, so does the whitehouse, so do the dems so does my sister..try to FOCUS on what is important instead of trying to pass Iraq off as glowing democracy with bad PR because of AP, and as for asking questions I could care less about AP lying and more about our leaders, who actually matter, lying...

Posted by: Opus [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 08:22 PM

Wow, opuss, you can't do any better than to steal my schtick?

...but just because you're mother could use a shave...

It should read "your mother," not "you're mother," ewe moron, ewe. And oh, by the way, you should get new glasses--it was your sister with the beard, Opussy...

Posted by: keefer [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 08:42 PM

wow queefer, using grammer check huh?

your mother's my sister? sorry, I think you'RE mistaken, it is ironic that your mom also likes to be called opussy though,

now it's time for bed little sheep, let the adults talk...rub one out to your backstreet boys poster and have granny finsish up for you, trust me, she know's what she's doing...

Posted by: Opus [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 08:54 PM

Wow opuss & Keefer, you guys are way to deep for us!!! Later!

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 28, 2006 10:03 PM

"Have you been to Iraq and know the conditions on the ground or are you just spewing the democratic message?"

He probably just reads the newspaper, which is more than you do.

Posted by: USA at November 28, 2006 10:25 PM

Here's more "drive by media" rhetoric.

A collective “I told you so” will ripple through the world of Bush-bashers once news of Christopher Lohse’s study gets out.

Lohse, a social work master’s student at Southern Connecticut State University, says he has proven what many progressives have probably suspected for years: a direct link between mental illness and support for President Bush.

Lohse says his study is no joke. The thesis draws on a survey of 69 psychiatric outpatients in three Connecticut locations during the 2004 presidential election. Lohse’s study, backed by SCSU Psychology professor Jaak Rakfeldt and statistician Misty Ginacola, found a correlation between the severity of a person’s psychosis and their preferences for president: The more psychotic the voter, the more likely they were to vote for Bush.

Yeesh.

As I have written before,

I just shake my head in dismay.

Posted by: raker13 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 29, 2006 01:15 PM

'ceptin you Jeremiah.

Your the only one with his head screwed on straight; oh, and Keefer too.

(yeah, right)

Posted by: raker13 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 29, 2006 01:18 PM

The fact that you believe such a thing speaks wonders of you and your intelligence Raker! That's funny though, that is till you realize that we pay for dumbasses like Lohse to do what he does!

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 29, 2006 11:33 PM

Sheesh!! The more psychotic the voter the more they voted for Bush!! ha ha ha That means more than half the voters in the U.S.A. are psychotic. Lets allow that this is true...that would give us the right to off all the libs and claim mental illness. I'd name the one I get, but I want to sneak up on that sleazeball. By the way I know Opussy's sister and she's no Jack Kennedy...more like fat Teddy. Round, plentiful, and full of crap like her brother.
