Why is it that when it comes to governing, President Bush is the only one expected to "compromise." We've seen this concept of "compromise" get brought up particularly when it comes to judicial nominations. "Bush should nominate moderate judges, not conservative judges," we are often told by the left. Oh really? Were they urging Clinton to nominate moderate judges, not liberal judges? No, of course not.
It's a double standard. And the left knows it.
It's time for honesty. Bush reached out to Democrats during his first term. They stabbed him in the back. Everything from the No Child Left Behind Act, the Patriot Act, to the liberation of Iraq were approved in a bipartisan way, only to have the Democrats turn around and oppose these issues in order to make them campaign issues during the 2004 presidential elections.
John Roberts and Samuel Alito are two highly qualified individuals who should have each been confirmed will over 90 votes each. Instead, Democrats demonized both of them in the most disgraceful ways. Why? Because in their view Bush was supposed to "compromise" by nominating "moderate" judges. When Bush resubmitted several judicial nominees, Democrats were furious. They have no right to be. Every single nominee deserves a vote.
Let's talk a bit about this concept of "compromise." To all the liberals out there who say Bush needs to "compromise" by nominating moderates, will you be the first to criticize the next Democrat president for nominating liberal judges instead of moderate judges? Will you stand with Senate Republicans when they filibuster judicial nominees who are too far out of the mainstream? You won't. You know it. So, let's stop pretending that Bush owes anything to the Democrat by "compromising" on judicial nominees, or legislation, or anything for that matter. Democrats don't know the meaning of compromise. They think it means that everyone has to give in to their desires. Well, that just isn't going to happen. If they want to talk about compromise, let's see them prove they actually know how to compromise when they are in power.
Bush has and will continue to do what is right for this country, even when Democrats strongly oppose him.

JOHN GLENN SAID
Things that make you think a little:
There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January. In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war-torn country of Iraq.
When some claim that President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following:
a. FDR led us into World War II.
b. Germany never attacked us; Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost an average of 112,500 per year.
c. Truman finished that war and started one in Korea. North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost ...an average of 18,334 per year.
d. John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us
e. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost an average of 5,800 per year.
f. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent. Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.
g. In the years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran, and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking. But it took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch
Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.
We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.
It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!
Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high!
The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts But wait. There's more!
JOHN GLENN (ON THE SENATE FLOOR) Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13
Some people still don't understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed services do what they do for a living.
This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military.
Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn):
"How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?"
Senator Glenn (D-Ohio):
"I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank."
"I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day to a veteran's hospital and look at those men with their mangled bodies... in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job!
You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job.
You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags.
You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job?
What about you?"
For those who don't remember During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA.
Now he's a Senator!
If you can read this, thank a teacher.
If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran.
It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating
Mark,
As your world grows smaller, those who still remain in agreement with you appear to be increasingly in lock-step with your views. Do you known of a single person who posts here and agrees with you only 75% of the time? That may agree with you about some things, but not others?
It's a danger sign, Mark. You're little group here (and to a lesser degree the GOP in general) is becoming more concentrated as it shrinks. The funny thing about this is that as time marches on those that remain become even more convinced that they are right. There is little talk of compromise, or reconciliation, or even honest political discourse.
The majority has spoken, Mark. We don't claim to be the same goosestepping minority that the GOP has become. But as your voice becomes more shrill, it becomes lost in the vast chorus that represents the majority of this country. The fundamental idea of conservativism has been taken away from you. All that remains is the big-government social engineering fanaticism that the bulk of the people of this country reject outright.
Not that I'm complaining. The ultra-right wing has given the Democrats a victory they could never have achieved on their own. It's your fault, Mark. You and your ilk have driven the people away from you. And the Dems thank you for it.
We are ready to lead, and your little group is not going to stand in our way. You can either play nice, or play dead. But if you continue this "my way or the highway" talk, you won't be leading us down the highway.
You'll be roadkill. It's your choice to make.
Mr. Olive E Vier
One things for sure Mr.Olive E Vier,
The Republican Right and the Majority got fed up with the corruption not just in the Republican Party but the Democratic Party also.
But you can make this bet and take it to your bank,.
The Republicans will come back strong in 2008 and then the LEAD will be taken for this Country, because WE know how to do it.
You're right about one thing. The Dems will take control for 2 years, but they won't lead.
Why? BECAUSE THEY'VE FRUSTRATED and MISLED THE AMERICAN people ever since the Kennedys took control.
What can they get done in 2 years?
Well, let me put it this way, Mr. Know it Little..
They done nothing the entire time they were in office.
The Republicans will make a comeback and then the Nation will be led in a Responsible Manner the way its been led for the past 12 years.
Unemployment at its lowest..........
Building at its highest.............
Stock Market at its highest.........
Taxes given back to the people that the
Democrats want to burden us with....
Values in the White House. (*Not a President crawling to an All-Time low-disgraceful-
A disgraceful Robert Byrd from WV said it was disgraceful and said he would vote to impeach-
Look at His Record).
Abortion voted against in the WH.....
And the Democrats voted against ALL 7 of the things I've mentioned. (Seven is a perfect #)
John Murtha - a disgrace to this Country and our Military Men and Women in Uniform
Hillary Clinton - even more disgraceful.
You want to hear more, Mr. Leader..
This is my last post because I will not waste any more time throwing my pearls before the swine.
Why?
Figure it out.
Martin
what a load of absolute crap matt. i'm amazed you get away with it so often without being called out.
the facts are clear - the judicial confirmation process has been far more efficient during the last two congresses than it ever was during the clinton era when the republican-controlled congress blocked over 60, yes SIXTY of clinton's judicial nominees with various holds, filibusters or other roadblocks.
all but TWO of bush's nominees have seen a straight up or down vote.
your idea of compromise sounds a hell of a lot more like "my way or the highway" - well, thankfully the voters have spoken and it's going to be a lot more like "highway" for bush going forward.
i can't believe you write this junk with a staight face.
[NOTE: You need to learn some manners...]
dl,
Thanks for your post.
“all but TWO of bush's nominees have seen a straight up or down vote.”
Orange,
You don’t know what you’re talking about. I suggest you check the record a little closer.
Jeremiah,
You said the same things 2 weeks ago, only predicting that the Repubs would stay in power in 2006. Why should anyone beleive you now when you got it so wrong on Nov 7?
Some things you say are true. Not much will get done in 2 years, primarily because our President (31% approval rating and dropping) will veto the Dems agenda.
That helps the Dems in 2008, who will have the easy-win slogan of "finish what you started in 2006 and finally get rid of the Repugs".
The Dems canned Murtha. They spanked Pelosi. Now the've embarrased Rangel. All the things that you didn't want the Dems to do. You wanted Murtha and Rangel calling the shots, to make it easier on you. The Dems are serious about holding power, guys. And not just for 2 years. We've been "compromising" for years, meaning bent over and greased up.
We want to keep power for a long, long time. If that means curbing our liberal tendencies, so be it. You guys lost the center, and we've captured it--deal with it.
Why Should Bush "Compromise" With Democrats?
If the Shrub doesn't want to go down as the WORST president in U.S. history , he'll swallow his pride and work with the Democratic Congress(and that means he'll actualy have to start giving a damn about Americans and the Constitution).
Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB!
I agree, the Shrub's doing a bang up job........at turning America into a laughingstock in the eyes of the world.
The Republicans will come back strong in 2008 and then the LEAD will be taken for this Country, because WE know how to do it.
Yeah, cause you guys were doing such a great job in areas concerning the War in Iraq, the economy, protecting New Orleans from a hurricane, and giving America a better name. (sarcasm off)
BECAUSE THEY'VE FRUSTRATED and MISLED THE AMERICAN people ever since the Kennedys took control.
Prove it, Jeremiah.
The Republicans will make a comeback and then the Nation will be led in a Responsible Manner the way its been led for the past 12 years.
Wow, are you really this blind to what the do-nothing 109th Congress has done under the Bush era, eh?
At least you're not quoting the Bible like a raving lunatic like you normally do. That counts for something.
Hey Olive Oyl,
What's wrong with agreeing with Matt all the time. After all, many of us believe in our president--we aren't always looking for "gotchas" like you assholes are.
The fundamental idea of conservativism has been taken away from you.
No it hasn't, punk--your side had to run conservatives to regain the majority. When are you gonna show your true selves? You can't; the country won't accept your lib crap.
Hey, you're runnin' the show now, congrats. It makes you happy. Do it right, and I could care less how long you hold the reigns. But remember one thing, Jimmie--try that namby-pamby liberalism on us, and you'll be sent packing.
I can't wait until January; maybe these phonies will show their true colours then...
Hey Matt, I know we are getting more and more used to ignoring idiots like Jim, T.L., & Oa, but the sad thing is, they really believe America voted for a liberal agenda last election!
I challenge any of you donks to lay out the agenda you guys ran on! No? I didn't think so! You ran on NO agenda and the second you unviel a liberal agenda you'll send the majority of Americans scampering for cover. Unless you find some way to offer Americans more material things, more money, more comfort. Hey if you guys can work those things into a LIBERAL agenda, maybe I'll vote for you(NNNNNNNOOOOOOTTTTTT)!!! Wake up America!
bearmanUSMC,
They did not vote for a liberal agenda. As I have been saying for 2 weeks, they voted for a moderate agenda--in other words, a Democrat agenda.
The people are sick of the wacko, right wing "Of Pandas And People" Party, plain and simple.
Offering more money sounds good. How about in a MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE? Duh!
And I think America "Woke Up" on November 7th.
Hmmmmmmm......poor Jim! I believe strongly that you need to wake up. Your moderate agenda is a non-agenda=a current liberal agenda! The people voted for a change and a change only. Now we'll see how they like the changes that may come about. By the way, they voted for change with their heads in the sand, kinda like you Jim!
