2008 GOP Straw Poll - November 2006 Edition

Posted by Matt at November 9, 2006 05:30 PM

Comments

I recall a similar poll several months ago.

I cast my vote on that poll too.

However, the candidate I chose at that time is no longer included.

I gave my support to Sen. George Allen.

I feel so sad. :-(

My God give him comfort.

And may God Bless America.

You left off former Senator Macaca...why? He is the true face of the republican party.

Conservative campaign well. Conservatives attack well. Conservatives do everything in politics well except govern. What other conclusion can you draw from what I really truely think is the absolute worst congress ever. The incompetent Bush is the worst president ever. What other evidence do you need? Another Katrina? Another war against a nation that really isn't a direct threat to us.

Thank god the American people realize this now.

Wade,

Jeremiah also prayed for victory. His prayers were for Christian Republicans as he didn't think the Democratic party had any Christians in its ranks. God, it appears, refused to consider his request. We haven't heard from Jeremiah since the defeat and I'm a little worried. Usually, we can count on him to provide us heathens with a few verses of scripture and some hell & brimstone rhetoric. Hope he is ok.

Far north, you voted for Bush in 2000? Im sure you must have been horrified at the thought of Gore being president, the man who was VP for the guy who sent the U.S. military to attack a nation which wasnt a direct threat to America.

Seventy-nine days of bombardment and not a single WMD in sight and...GASP!...the U.N. didnt sign-off on military action!

Another secret Bush supporter shows his face, now youve done it, no invitation to DNC headquarters for you.

You left off former Senator Macaca...why? He is the true face of the republican party.

Which must mean that San Fran Nan is the true face of the democratic party? Cool, put her front and center and see how far she gets you. 'Liberal values', use that as your campaign slogan in '08. Good luck.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 09:03 PM

Bongos, yes, my very liberal values taught me not to:

LIE a country into a war.

STEAL the lives of nobel men and women for a lie.

CHEAT families of the good men and women who have lost their lives in this war.

Now, many true conservatives have sent a message to this false conservative group, the neocons, and said we see right through your BS. We will hold this democratic congress accountable to everything they have campaigned on. We will make sure they turn this country around from the most evil group of people this country has every seen.

Posted by: Jesus was a leftie [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 10:13 PM

Yeah? Very liberal values? Read this:

"Dr. Tiller, abortionist

He specializes in the latest of late-term abortions (all the way to 37 weeks!), and charges as much as $10,000 for each murder he commits.

To kill the baby, he sticks a needle in its heart injecting it with powerful drugs that cause it to die.

Then, to show how "compassionate" he is, Tiller will dress the stillborn baby... take pictures of it with its parents... baptize it... incinerate the body... and then sell the parents an urn to keep the ashes."

Is that part of your very liberal value structure too, because it certainly is of your party. In case you missed it, he performs abortions up to 37 weeks; normal partruitin occurs from 37 to 42 weeks. Babies are delivered everyday at 37 weeks; healthy, viable, functioning human beings. This guy kills them at the time they are normally ready to be born.

Now, if you believe for a second that America just voted for liberal values, for this horror, youre cracked.

Tell you what you do, petition your leaders to nominate someone for the '08 presidential campaign who is willing to show the results of this procedure.

Make a nice tv ad showing a clip of these abortions being done, and then the final result, with your nominee intoning in the background that they support this procedure whole-heartedly. See if America really wants to vote for liberal values or not. After the election, youll be able to count the votes they get on one hand.

Thats why I would never vote dem, not as long as they support this murder. When libs have decided that the only difference between a baby and a lump of tissue is a single breath, then you have lost your humanity.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 11:02 PM

One more thing, part of this democratic congress campaigned on abortion rights so you will have to hold them to it too. That means you support this sick shit and the people who do it, though Im willing to bet you have never seen a baby aborted at 37 weeks.

Liberal values. If this is an example of liberal values, the quicker we run liberals out the better.

Bongos,

I personally find Dr. Tiller (whom I just googled) to be disgusting. I don't think, however, that he represents the Democratic party. I also find those who celebrate torture, rape, and capital punishment disgusting. I was horrified at the pictures out of Abu Graib (and there are MANY more, including young boys being anally raped with broomsticks).

There are sickos out there, but they don't represent either political party.

It's ironic that this thread is about the GOP's 2008 nominee- did you know that half of the nominees listed here are pro-choice? Giuliani is to the left of Hillary Clinton on late-term abortion! He thinks there should be no limits at all on late-term abortion (Clinton has stated that she supports banning 3rd trimester abortions except when it endangers the health of the mother)! Does this mean that Tilly represents "New York Republicans"? Surely not.

Let's try to be civil and not argue the extremes.

BTW, you mentioned living in MN and feeling heartened by Pawlenty's win. I also live in MN and he is a fine governor. In fact, I voted for him! Hatch showed himself to be FAR too mean-spirited with that swipe at the reporter during the last week of the campaign- and their stances on issues were pretty similar. Besides, northern Republicans are really quite moderate (and not unlike Southern Democrats in many respects).

However, don't be too quick to claim victory in MN- the GOP lost 19 seats in the MN House (now 85 Dems, 49 GOP) and also lost in the Senate (44 Dems, 23 GOP).

I used to be an independent, but until the National Republican Party kicks out the crooks and the Radical Right and returns to Goldwater and Reagan-style Conservativism, I will not vote for them nationally!

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 11:40 PM

I forgot to mention that SD voted down that ballot initiative banning ALL abortions. Does this mean that they support Tilly? MO passed the stem-cell initiative. AZ voted against the gay-marriage amendment.

These are pretty conservative states, but people are starting to realize that they don't want the Federal Government in every part of our private lives!

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 11:44 PM

Im heartened that youre disgusted with Tillerman, and also with the Abu Ghraib morons who committed those disgusting acts. Yet Republicans dont have "military prison abuse" as part of their platform, the same cant be said for the democrats and abortion. Late term abortion is supported by the left, plain and simple.

This thread does concern potential GOP nominees, yet nowhere did I say that I supported any or all of the choices given. Frankly, I dont know that much about some of them and therefore cant make a reasoned choice from that particular group.

I never claimed 'victory' in MN, honestly I cant because this state will probably always be majority blue. I did however claim that keeping TPaw was a victory because he is a good, solid person and not a zealot. Hatch would have been Ventura all over again, always borderline angry and confrontational.

I will agree with ridding both parties of the radicals; Scoop Jackson and Reagan are looking down and trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 10, 2006 12:50 AM

South Dakota had a vote on the issue of abortion, some for and some against the amendment, though the issue was ALL abortions including incest and rape. Those two factors are the stickiest part of the abortion debate. The law will be reconfigured and the government will still be there on the issue.

They also voted to ban same-sex marriage which isnt exactly getting the government off your back.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 10, 2006 01:06 AM

Glad we agree on some things and I really do think Pawlenty is a good governor- and a potential Vice-Presidential candidate!

As vilified as the Dems are on abortion, you should know that most of them would support a ban on third trimester abortions except when mother's life in at risk. And abortion rates went DOWN during the Clinton presidency and has remained low under the Bush presidency, despite it still being legal. In fact, Laura and Condi are both pro-choice and would probably agree with the Dems on this issue.

You'll be heartened to know that Reid (the presumptive majority leader of the Senate) is pro-life. Sen-Elect Webb is also pro-life, as are many others in the Democratic party. It's really not a radical party and there are socially liberal Republicans (in all the blue states) who agree with them on MANY social issues.

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 10, 2006 01:07 AM

If the majority of dems would support a ban, I guess it would be interesting to see them try to get such a thing passed; the fallout would be nuclear in scale, I have no doubt. I cant imagine San Francisco readily accepting that their congressional rep would even allow a bill like that to see the light of day, Pelosi would be drawn and quartered, then run out of office.

If the dems truly believe that, let them show it because the act is a monstrous blot on our society.

I guess we will see if the 21st century democrats are a radical party or not, twelve years out of power builds up a lot of constrained emotion, and the old guard liberals are still in charge. Guys like Rangel, feeling his oats and slurring Mississippi, arent helping your cause.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 10, 2006 01:21 AM

You know what, bongos? I doubt that abortion will ever be totally illegal, despite what the GOP tells you. It's too divisive and brings too many of their "base" out to vote on merely one issue for them. Remember the GOP convention? Well, ALL of the prime time speakers (except for Bush himself) are pro-choice. Most Northern Republicans are, as well. O'Reilly had Dick Morris as a guest and they agreed that if abortion were outlawed, that the Republicans would lose for decades. There's a reason that NO Republican president and Congress has outlawed abortion, instead leaving it up to the states. Do you think that Republicans would have ANY northern candidates in office under such a scenario?

Making abortion illegal entirely would also open up a WHOLE legal can of worms (young women being charged with FIRST DEGREE MURDER, alcohol and drug use during pregnancy being charged as providing controlled substances to a minor, not using one's seatbelt while pregnant as child endangerment, women who miscarry being investigated, etc). This is quite contrary to Conservative ideals of 'limited government'.

Still, I DO think an area of comprimise would be third-trimester pregnancies. This is a brutal procedure and almost completely unnecessary. As long as the life of the mother is an exception, I DO BELIEVE Dems would vote for it. I mean, if Hillary has publicly stated she would vote for it!!! Not to mention Reid, Webb, Casey, etc. I KNOW abortion is a emotional and divisive issue, so it deserves to be taken seriously and some sort of comprimise reached. Let's see what the Supreme Court decides on late-term abortion in the current session.

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 10, 2006 07:44 AM

Just heard about Rangel's STUPID statement about Mississippi this morning. That is just the kind of bickering we DON'T NEED! I understand his point, that the 'Blue States' generate most Federal dollars while the 'Red States' take more Federal money than they generate, but this sort of "us against them" mentality is NOT PRODUCTIVE.

Still, it's not one-sided! I've heard A LOT about "San Fran Nan", "San Francisco Values", there was A TON of Massachusetts and Northeastern bashing last election cycle (except, curiously, from Romney ; )

We're all in this together! I don't think it's going to help to BASH other states, communities, etc- the terrorists hate us all, and what helps one state HELPS US ALL!
