ANNOUNCEMENT: Matt Margolis & Mark Noonan get a book deal!

November 09, 2006
What Media Bias? Part 72

Here's a headline we just wouldn't be getting today if the Republicans had won on Tuesday:

Poll: Afghans express confidence in country's direction, security

You see, in the story, there is also information about Afghans worrying about the corruption in government - so, on November 6tth or post-GOP victory, the headline would have read thusly:

Poll: Afghans express worry about corruption

But this is the new day - the Democrat day: so, we're going to start getting good news about the war and the economy. This will cut a bit of both ways - President Bush will also benefit from the MSM telling the truth...though we can expect a series of leaks from Congressional committees providing plenty of fodder for anti-Bush stories from now until eletion day, 2008.

Comments

What happened to all the violence in Iraq? Suddenly it has disapeared from the evening news and all the headlines.

The Democrats now are partners in what ever happens.

Posted by: Tom at November 9, 2006 02:54 PM

Another Headline Today:
150,000 Iraqis Killed by Insurgents

Also in the same article:
Iraqis welcomed Wednesday's announcement of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's resignation as many blamed him for policy failures and scandals that have contributed to the daily sectarian carnage that continues to wrack their nation.
"Rumsfeld's resignation shows the scale of the mess the U.S. has made in Iraq," 44-year-old Oil Ministry worker Ibrahim Ali said. "The efforts by American politicians to hide their failure are no longer working."

- I guess it just depends where you look.

Off topic

I am watching Fox news with Senator Allen give a concession speach. I think what this truly is is not a consession speach but the first brick in the foundation for his 08 presidency campaign.

Posted by: Dudleyatlaw [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 03:20 PM

Mark,

You truly are pathetic.......

Posted by: Morphie [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 03:45 PM

Once again, guided by hatred and contempt as always, Mark. I know some Baptist missionaries over there, hardly liberals, who express disgust at what's going on there overall. The burqas are back, along with the Taliban. One thing you never even pretend to address is that if a Democrat had failed Afghanistan like this, you'd certainly be singing a different tune.

But just now, I watched Schumer, Reid and Durbin speak about the new majority. They said exactly what should be set, which was that they refuse to follow the bad examples of the recent GOP rule of fear and hatred.

And to that I say bravo. That's why I want to post here and other Radical Rightwing blogs and show you people that no matter how much bile, vitriol and shamelss contempt you throw us, we will remind you time and again that you are our countrymen and we refuse to hate you like you do us. I am a firm believer in the teachings of Christ, as well as the great Dr. King. We will, in a sense, beat you down with love and compassion, all while showing those things to the American people, not just Big Oil, Big Pharm, and the lobbyists. Everytime you post with hatred about my party, I will respond to rebut as best as I can, but never, ever with anything approaching your level of unbridled hate for your fellow Americans.

Posted by: DougW [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 03:49 PM

WOW... Democrats have new found respect for decency? Doug, where did this new piety come from? Because you and your "liberal countrymen" have come to this site and said things along the lines of "assassinate Bush and Cheney, they are criminals (with never once backing it up), idiots, etc.

So... in your new fantasy world... this is your example of on the board debate?

And of course, you'll deny it like the hypocrits you truly are. You quote Schumer, Reid and Durbin, all individuals who have said HORRIBLE and inaccurate statements for political purposes about members of this administration.

So... who's being the bigger adult here? The guy who's been verbally sh*t on by the Democratic Party via character assassination and that's the President.

I love how people on the LEFT completely bash EVERY motive of anyone who identifies with being a Republican and then act with such rank piety when ANYONE questions ANY position they make or more accurately, don't make.

Doug... you've shown your true stripe. It looks a lot like a hypocrite.

Allen will never be a U.S President..EVER..

McCain in 2008...

Posted by: Ames Tiedeman at November 9, 2006 04:34 PM

DougW,

One thing about Mark...If it's Baptist missionaries saying something, then Mark is 100% convinced whatever they say is God's Honest Tru--

Wait, did you say the missionaries disagreed with Bush?

Er, sorry, Mark thinks they are God-forsaken terrorist sympathizers and EVIL.

My fault...

Posted by: Jim Oliver [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 05:12 PM

Mark,

You're right about the headline. I've seen other evidence of the liberal media's new-found acquaintance with the truth about the war. On Fox News, just after the election results revealed a Democrat victory, liberal NPR reporter-extraordinaire Juan Williams said (paraphrased) that "many in the country don't know that we're in a war with people who want to kill us."

Juan Williams said that. Juan Williams! He's so liberal that sometimes I hit "mute" when he's on Fox's discussion panel.

"But this is the new day - the Democrat day: so, we're going to start getting good news about the war and the economy. This will cut a bit of both ways - President Bush will also benefit from the MSM telling the truth..."

I'll take it. We've got a war to win.

Posted by: Freedom1 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 05:38 PM

Freedom: I saw that too and almost fell off my chair. He has never once said anything close to that until his party won. I also look forward to the "good news" about the WOT coming out more often, and I believe our troops will be happy about it as well.

Posted by: kimberly4bush [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 05:51 PM

Doug,

You have a very odd way of beating me down with love - insults and a clear indication that you read nothing of my actual post...I think I've seen your type of comments before, but I can't remember the name of the subsequently banned poster...

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 06:01 PM

Kimberly4bush,
Yeah! It was a good thing I was sitting down, or I'd have fallen down.

"...and I believe our troops will be happy about it as well."

Perhaps the MSM will start to write about American troops as brave heroes. (I hope so, anway!)

Posted by: Freedom1 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 06:04 PM

Mark-

I read what you wrote. And again you dodge the issue. If a Democratic president had failed as Bush did in Afghanistan, would you have reacted differently?

Wawillyo-

I have no power over what others do or say on this blog. One thing I can say is that the hatred you accuse some of having towards you is reciprocated and exceeded by persons such as yourself towards non-Republicans. I'm sure you always spoke with respect towards President Clinton.

I disagree with President Bush on so many things. But I respect him because of the office he holds, despite the fact that I think he abused that office.

Now, it seems I won't be around much longer because Mark has indicated that he intends to band me. So be it.

Again, I can't speak for others. What I can do is say for myself that no matter how much hate people like wawillyo throw at me, I won't reciprocate. You are my countrymen and I welcome your voice.

Posted by: DougW [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 06:18 PM

I hope you dont get banned DougW, (dont ban him please, Mark) because we need to have varying views here; an echo chamber is dull.

However, I will respond to your claim that the dems will rule in a kindly way with this remark by Rangel, said just today:

“It’s not just committees — our influence within the House Democratic caucus will grow enormously,” Mr. Rangel said in an interview.

To that end, he sketched out an expansive federal agenda: Teaming up with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on gun control, passing new tax incentives for urban job programs, and redirecting federal money to New York in return for the outsize tax collections that the federal government makes here.

“Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?” Mr. Rangel said.

Yessir Doug, I can feel the love and respect just oozing out of the good Congressman Rangel.

Mark,

I know this is probably off topic but, I just wanted to stop by for a minute to say good-bye for a while, I enjoyed talking with you guys!

As it turns out, I'm really disappointed in the results of the election, but nevertheless, I think it's all because the democrats kept hollering this "new direction" stuff!

I think the democrats are deceiving the American people with this "new direction" stuff, they are giving us a false hope if you will, and I fear the worst over the next two years!

Anyways, Don't let em' get ya down, Mark! I mean that! Just hang Tuff!!

God's allowed this for a reason, I don't know the reason, but, more than likely it's to get the American people to wake up! Come 08 though, The GOP ball will be rolling strong again!!
I CAN'T WAIT! :)

I'd like to wish a Very, Happy Holiday season to Everyone!

I'll see you again in May of 08!!

Until then, Keep up the Good work!

Good bye!

:)

Lose the Bongos: Did you hear the response from Rep. Chip Pickering to Rangle's idiotic comments?

“From the Coast to the Delta to the Pinebelt to the Hills and across Mississippi, there is beauty in every city, charity in every heart, love in every church, and majesty in every countryside. When I travel this state I see it in the resolute handshakes, the hospitable smiles, and the sincere prayers of our neighbors: we love Mississippi and we are proud and happy to live here,” Pickering said.

Pickering concluded, “Last year, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi Coast. We have been working hard not only to rebuild our own homes and communities, but also to repair and protect the network of refineries, pipelines, and transmission grids that supply energy, gas, and oil to the rest of the country, including New York. If Mr. Rangel believes those efforts required more than our fair share of federal money, he is welcome to send that energy back to our state and find an alternative supply...

Now, that's priceless. Can't wait for Rangle's response to that ...

Posted by: kimberly4bush [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 08:25 PM

Rangel wont respond, he'll write it off as a 'joke', ala John Kerry.

Liberals always get a pass for the stupid things they say, and if anyone criticizes Rangel they will be called a racist.

Dont hold your breath waiting for Rangel to say anything, or for the press to publicize what he said.

Compassionate dems my ass.

Thats cool Mark, its your site after all and Im just a visitor. We all go off topic now and then, but I understand about annoying liberals as I live in Minnesota. Around here you cant swing a vanilla-latte without hitting a liberal.

Did I mention we just elected Keith Ellison? Joy. I wouldnt mind if you could somehow ban him from congress.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 11:43 PM

Bongos-

You said, "However, I will respond to your claim that the dems will rule in a kindly way" This is a straw man. What I said was that I have only control over what I say and do. I do not believe in showing hatred as so many here do. I have no control over Rangel, but I will be moving to his district early next year. The wife and I love Harlem. When I am a constituent of his, I hope to get a chance to speak with him about my perspective. It's a tiny, tiny thing. So far, all I've done is write my two Senators, Dodd and Lieberman and my Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and express my feelings on this issue. I also wrote Congressman Shays to congratulate him because I would love more Republicans like him on that side. He's a decent man.

Jeremiah-

Your naivete is limitless if you believe that God is a Repubican or prefers them. I am a Christian. I am also a registered Democrat and AN AMERICAN. You can't take that away from me and you can't tell my my faith isn't real just because I don't vote for your preferred party.

Mark-

I am not here to annoy you. I respect your right to your viewpoints. But in the spirit of freedom, it's your website, not mine, and I'm fully aware that you reserve the right to ban whomever you please. So be it. But banning someone who is trying to be decent, even in the face of someone like you who hates everything I stand for and wishes I didn't live in America, would only reflect poorly on you.

Posted by: DougW [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 9, 2006 11:43 PM

I can't start topics on here, but I really want to ask the Republicans here if they were disgusted by the Michael Steele campaign's nasty trick of rounding up homeless people out of state to come to Maryland and deceive black voters. Did that bother any of you, or can you only see wrongdoing when a Democrat does it?

Posted by: DougW [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 10, 2006 12:05 AM

DougW, good to see youre still here, nothing like a little debate to keep the sanity intact.

Youre being disingenuous in your retort as well as your claims of being respectful, and Im more than willing to point out the problems.

hat's why I want to post here and other Radical Rightwing blogs

This site isnt radical, LGF is radical. Youre able to post your views and you will find republicans and conservatives who even agree with some of what you say. The language is fairly clean and its far from an echo chamber, unless you believe that all the dems adding the post-election gloats are somehow radical right-wingers. Add to that the fact that I posted a request that you NOT be banned, if I were a radical would I do that?

and show you people that no matter how much bile, vitriol and shamelss contempt you throw us, we will remind you time and again that you are our countrymen and we refuse to hate you like you do us.

You used the word "we", which contradicts your last post that claims you were talking only of your own language. "We" in this sentence presumes you talk for all or many other democrats, and claims "we" will be respectful. I answered earlier by pointing out that a member of the "we" in the person of Rangel didnt seem all that kind.

Also, you voice a stereotype that all of us, whether you meant conservatives at large or only the people posting here, are hateful towards liberals/democrats. Would it be fair to use such a broad brush upon you by saying 'all liberals hate soldiers'? Im one of those people who voted for Bush in 2004 and was therefore grouped-in with all the other conservatives as a 'Bible-banging, sister-marrying, shotgun-wielding moronic hayseed'. Remember the post-election headline, "How Could 55 Million People Be So Dumb?"

I am a firm believer in the teachings of Christ, as well as the great Dr. King. We will, in a sense, beat you down with love and compassion,

There is the "We" again, yet not everyone in your party believes in your religion. "Beat down", as if you dont believe we have the ability to respond to anything with love and compassion ourselves? As if those emotions are alien to conservatives? How do you know that there arent those of us who also profess a belief in Christ and MLK? How contemptuous of you. Why would you even presume that, seeing as Christ told us to look for the good in people first, and to remove the splinter from our own eye before pointing out the plank in the eye of another?

all while showing those things to the American people, not just Big Oil, Big Pharm, and the lobbyists.

And true to form, you manage to trot out a few buzzwords which seem to readily excite the liberal base. One of my new MN Congresswomen, Amy Klobuchar, was hit quite hard during the campaign by her opponent on two issues; she owns a lot of oil stock and she worked as a lobbyist for twelve years, and for...you guessed it...pharmaceutical firms. So please spare me the rants about the evils of Big Biz; if you drive a car or take any kind of medicine you can thank American companies for giving them to you safely and cheaply.

Everytime you post with hatred about my party, I will respond to rebut as best as I can, but never, ever with anything approaching your level of unbridled hate for your fellow Americans.

Again, Ill point out that hate isnt the property of conservatives. It isnt conservatives who equated Bush with Hitler, burned Cheney in effigy, carried signs asking troops to kill their officers, created vicious cartoons about our troops, celebrated the slaughter of Americans or called POTUS Bush a "loser". If you choose to be respectful then good on ya, but Im not seeing signs that your party is ready to follow your lead.

Unbridled hate belongs to both sides, take a look at the fringe sites and you will find it easily. Dont delude yourself into thinking that only conservatives can hate.

So please, spare me the white-horse treatment and lose the broad-brush, it wont work here. Youre no better than me or us, you only think you are, and that is a fault you need to overcome before lecturing anyone about taking the high road.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 10, 2006 12:22 AM

Did that bother any of you, or can you only see wrongdoing when a Democrat does it?

Id be willing to condemn it, any candidate should be willing to run on their own merits and not resort to dirty deeds. If it really happened, that is.

You, of course, will certainly be disgusted by the Patty Wetterling campaign using fraudalent commercials to smear her opponent and deceive MN voters, correct? As verified by the Star Tribune, the Washington Post and numerous local tv stations, I might add.

Come on doug, lets stand together and condemn this crap, or can you only see wrongdoing when a Republican does it?

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 10, 2006 12:35 AM

Doug,

No, you've been mostly insulting, entirely unfair in your comment about me, and frequently off topic. On the other hand, I've a very thick skin, and I don't mind a bit of drift in the conversation.

But to clarify my views of liberalism and leftism:

Liberalism is wrong, but at least proceeds from the Judeo-Christian tradition. Indeed, a quickie description of liberalism would be an attempt to have Christianity without Christ, or at least without Christ on the Cross (no need for redemption, it all your parent's fault, as it were). The wrong about liberalism is that it holds that man is infinitely perfectable - that by giving man better institutions, better men will gradually emerge. Christians know better than this - man is a fallen creature and can't help but be wicked; he must be kept ever in check lest his evil desires overwhelm him.

Leftism is evil - it is an anti-Judeo/Christian lie, and it is only sustained by lies and hatred. It holds that man is entirely a material entity and is infinitely malleable in the hands of an intellectual elite who have risen above the mundane requirements of morality. Because it is based on a lie, it is inherently wicked and is incapable of ever doing any good, even incidental good. It must be opposed at all points, and as far as possible kept away from authority over man.

The problem with the Democrats is that they made a deal with this devil leftism back in 1972, and it has poisoned the Democratic Partyh ever since. A liberal like Lieberman can be wrong, but he'll do the right thing by society as a whole - a leftist like Howard Dean is a direct threat to the safety of the people of the United States. In so far as leftists hold positions of authority, so is the United States at risk of complete destruction...and there are far too many leftists with positions of authoriy in the United States.

"though we can expect a series of leaks from Congressional committees providing plenty of fodder for anti-Bush stories from now until eletion day, 2008".

Leaks? Is W doing something unethical? Why worry about leaks? More wiretapping? More Halliburton scandals? Another person shot in the face? Another CIA agent outed? Here's a leak, will we find out why WTC 7 collapsed? Really, don't you want to know? Hey, instead of plans for a nuke, how about leaking something simple, like plans for let's say...a bio terror.

Jeremiah...

Now tuck your your tail between your wittle wegs there wittle one. Run along now.

Go play with your ball. Better yet, stick your head in the corner.

Boo!

After the 'thumpin' they got this week, they might want to put some ice on it...

Politics as usual... snookering the public at every turn...

Bipartisan?! I've got 'bipartisan!' Bend over!!!

It's time to roll up our sleeves as Conservatives (NOT as Republicans!) and show the liberals among the Democrats that we've learned our lessons over the past six years very, very well. If the Republicans in general had managed to generate a testicle between the several score of them over the past 6 years or so, I've seen little or no sign of it. Rush Limbaugh was right on the money when he foreswore support of Republicans who can't - or won't - walk the walk that they talked up so well when we sent them to Washington some 4 years or so ago...

But now that the 'thumpin' has occurred, our "great leader" has seemingly morphed into a compliant bureaucrat, willing to sign anything that comes across his desk by the 110th Congress... Speaking for myself, I smell something particularly smarmy going on here...

Bongos-

You said: "Youre no better than me or us, you only think you are, and that is a fault you need to overcome before lecturing anyone about taking the high road."

Let me first apoligize for coming across like I think I'm better. I do not believe that, and in trying to explain that I believe that, I gave the opposite impression to some. My sole reason for posting here as well as on other far rightwing blogs is to do a tiny, miniscule part, now that my party is in power, to reach out to the people that do, you must admit, show liberals and Democrate a lot of hatred. As for your issue about the Wetterling campaign, I'm with you all the way. Same goes for what they did to Arcuri and the bogus sex-line call.

Mark-

You said: "No, you've been mostly insulting, entirely unfair in your comment about me, and frequently off topic."

I have expressed disagreements with you and pointed out when I thought you were bitter and hateful towards me. That's not being insulting. However, I have been off topic and when I post in the future, I will do better in that regard.

"Liberalism is wrong"

Well, that's quite a statement. Liberalism gave us the New Deal, the TVA, Social Security, the Civil Rights Act, Women's Sufrrage, and of course the Emancipation Proclamation, penned by a liberal Republican.

"Leftism is evil"

Taken to it's extreme it results in communist totalitarianism, just the same as when you move far enough to the right you get fascism. This great nation is not a majority of idealogues. Most people are liberal on some issues and conservative on others. Where your side has been genius over the last 30 years is convincing people that "conservative" and "liberal" are defined incorrectly.
