The Hard Truth of Kerry's "Botched Joke"

Trust a veteran on this - we're still seething over this; and Ronald R. Griffin lays out precisely why.

I missed the joke. You must forgive me, for there just is not a lot of room in my life for even good jokes--and there is absolutely no room for "botched jokes"--when the subject of the joke is my son who was killed in Iraq. I know exactly what came out of Sen. John Kerry's mouth, and in those words there is no interpretation required. His attempt to convince us--and, I believe, to convince himself that that there was really a botched joke buried deep within his insult is in fact a reaffirmation of his ever-present condescending nature. He actually believes that we are stupid enough to agree with him and start laughing simply because he said it was a joke. Mr. Kerry said exactly what he meant and meant exactly what he said. In those words Mr. Kerry did in fact wash completely away the facade of his support of our magnificent troops and revealed for all to see his true colors.

All one had to do is look into the face of Mr. Kerry as the last word came out of his mouth, and it was painfully obvious that he knew that he had just disparaged the entire military. As the firestorm grew, the calls for an apology filled me with unease. It is not up to him to determine if an apology is in order. That decision most certainly rests with the millions of individuals he offended, and then they would decide if they were going to accept one or not.

Mr. Kerry touched a nerve - opened up a raw wound, which really has been festering since the end of the Vietnam War. There are those of us who love this country, and then there are those who learned to hate their country - Kerry is one of those who learned to hate it...the left is just filled to the brim with people who hate America, and it does come out...normally, just not so brazenly as Kerry put it.

We won't forget this - and we won't allow another Saigon, 1975 to happen at the behest of the American left. No more defeat and retreat - no more lies and slanders about our troops and our country.

Let me be crystal clear...John Kerry has not apoligized for denigrating the intelligence of the military. He has only replied we are to stupid to interpret his demeaning statement.

As a retired Air Force NCO and one with a daughter currently serving overseas with the Air Force, I continue to be amazed at the depths the democrat party will sink to try and destroy the will of the military.

I agree with you Mark...America will never again let the liberal democrats and their willing accomplices in the liberal lying media bring down our brave men and women protecting the freedoms we all enjoy.

Posted by: Nebraska Militia [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 07:18 AM

I mirror and agree exactly with Nebraska Militia and Mark's post on Kerry's non-Apology. This denigration of our men and women that for what ever reason volunteer to defend America and the world against evil has got to stop.
Kerry and his ilk must no longer be allow to take the stage and spew their anti-American hate.
Personally, if you cannot say instantly that you want America to win this war then you should leave this country and denounce your citizenship. Being American is being on the Team for our Allies and Against our enemies. A TEAM EFFORT! If you do not understand that then get off the TEAM.

sKerry is a traitor.
Nothing has changed since the 70's except the dimocRATS have fallen completely into lunacy, and marxisim.
I used to wonder how Americans fell into a civil war fighting each other in the 1800's.
Now with the HATE and VITEROL coming out ofthe democrat party i believe i am seeing the seeds of a second civil war being planted in this country, it is frightning and curious at the same time.

Posted by: FmrMarine at November 4, 2006 08:43 AM

Please. . .Kerry hates America???

That statement is ridiculous on its face- why would someone who hates America have such a long, distinguished career in both the military and in the Senate? Do you really believe that anybody who serves in Congress hates America? Let's be intellectually honest here! Even George Macaca Allen doesn't hate America despite his hatred of civil rights, lynching laws, and pro-Confederacy!

C'mon, you guys should know about politicians who mis-speak! Kerry's and Macaca's chances are both over for their partys' nominations, but our current president mis-speaks FAR more often than most. Remember when he said:

Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.

Now, the President HAS thought of "new ways to harm our country and our people", but that isn't what he meant to say! What if the Democrats had leapt all over that statement with fake indignation (like the Republicans are with Kerry's statement)? I mean, HELL, even Bill O'Reilly has admitted that Kerry obviously didn't mean what he said.

But the Republicans are SO GLAD that they finally have something to cycle endlessly since NOTHING is going their way.

Have you seen that all FOUR military publications are publishing a joint editorial saying that "Rumsfeld must go"? Why does the military hate the military?

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 08:44 AM

"such a LONG and DISTINGUISHED career in both the military and Senate"

Say what? It's not about America, it's about JOHN! And the LEFT. Coulterfan my ass.

Posted by: coulterfan at November 4, 2006 08:44 AM

Did you know that these publications are part of the Military Times Media Group, a subsidiary of the Gannett Co., Inc.?

The same Gannett that publishes USA Today. Did you also know that Donna Shalala is on the board of directors of Gannett?

Details...details...

The only military paper is the Stars and Stripes.

Posted by: Greg-O at November 4, 2006 10:40 AM

Yep, you libs just keep spinning it, your only problem is that the people who might believe the spin ALREADY believe it. Youre preaching to your own choir.

Its not conservatives who:

-profess solidarity with the terrorists
-equate terrorists to Minutemen
-carry signs advocating that troops kill their officers
-vandalize recruiting offices
-claim that the terrorists are going to win
-assault service members
-burn American flags
-print demeaning cartoons about soldiers
-employ terrorists
-concoct 911 conspiracies
-claim that our military cant win the fight
-blockade ROTC offices
-disrepect the American flag in myriad ways
-celebrate the 911 attacks
-caricature the POTUS as Hitler
-burn effigies of Bush and Rummy and Cheney
-disparage our allies
-ridicule the military
-celebrate the deaths of Americans
-fly the American flag upside down
-etc.etc.etc. ad nauseum

Spin it all you want, todays democratic party isnt the party of JFK anymore, its been taken over by the 'Hate America First' crowd. Dont deny it, accept it and be proud of yourselves, because everyone else already knows the truth.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 10:57 AM

I haven't heard Kerry apologize for anything. All that's happened is a post on his website, right. And all that said is "I'm sorry you aren't smart enough to get my nuanced joke."

But doesn't anybody remember when Bush poked fun at himself for not finding WMDs at the press dinner, going around looking under furniture. And we were told that the Iraq war was a serious matter, and that for which people's children die is not the sort of thing of which any compassionate person would make fun. So, at best Kerry is making light of that for which people's children die.

Posted by: Morris [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 11:28 AM

Lose the Bongos, indeed! I think you've entirely lost your bongos! Surely there are kooks on the "fringe left", but NO prominent Dems have EVER engaged in any of the s**t you're suggesting!

As for "blaming America first"- the FIRST to blame America after the 9-11 attacks was Jerry Falwell, followed immediately by Robertson. I don't think either of them are Democrats.

And what about the kooks on the Right- the skinheads, McVeigh, Nichols, James Kopp, the Unibomber, Eric Rudolph?

Do they represent the Republican party?

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 11:35 AM

I almost forgot about the "Westboro Baptist Church", Ted Haggard, Foley, etc!

Are ALL Republicans either convicted felons, pedophiles, closeted "anti-gay" gays themselves, and racists?

It sure seems like it!!!

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 11:38 AM

And we can argue whether the Democratic party of today is still the party of JFK, FDR, and Truman (I say they still are).

But, there is no doubt that the fiscally responsible party is no longer the Reublican party! GW Bush and his administration make LBJ look like a "small government conservative". And Dems like Clinton and, yes, Howard Dean boast fiscal discipline (including reforming the failures of welfare) that would be the envy of a "real" conservative (if they existed anymore and the GOP wasn't taken over by religious zealots and corporate hacks)!

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 11:45 AM

(including reforming the failures of welfare)

Clinton was dragged kicking and screaming to sign the Welfare Reform bill, you stupid jerk. Of course, you don't remember this, being that you're only 12...

Wow, have you been eavesdropping CF, or did you know them personally? I mean, I've never found any info on their voting records. Or is it just anyone that doesn't agree with you is a repub.! You libs are a joke worth laughing at, who needs skerrys jokes!

Lose the Bongos, indeed! I think you've entirely lost your bongos! Surely there are kooks on the "fringe left", but NO prominent Dems have EVER engaged in any of the s**t you're suggesting!

Well, you are right, I dont have any bongos at all (hint: Im not a liberal). But lets move along, shall we?

-U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., is coming under heavy fire after saying American treatment of terror detainees at the Guantanamo Naval Base is comparable to torture at the hands of Nazis, Soviet gulags and even Cambodian mass murderer Pol Pot.

-Rep. John Murtha, an influential Pennsylvania lawmaker and outspoken critic of the war in Iraq, said today Marines had “killed innocent civilians in cold blood” after allegedly responding to a roadside bomb ambush that killed a Marine during a patrol in Haditha, Iraq, Nov. 19.

-"We killed the Patriot Act," boasted Minority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, to cheers from a crowd at a political rally after the vote.

-Harry Reid calls President Bush a "loser" in front of schoolkids.

-JFKerry says American troops are terrorizing Iraqi women and children in the dead of night.

-Ted Kennedy is the senior U.S. senator from Massachusetts. Here he is recently weighing in about Abu Ghraib: "Shamefully, we now learn that Saddam's torture chambers reopened under new management — U.S. management."

Soooo, are these dems prominent enough for you?

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 12:18 PM

ou812,

You've apparently got your head so far up your a** (or maybe a gay prostitute's!) that you can't see or hear anything! Clinton pledged to reform welfare during his inaugural address- hardly "kicking and screaming". SOME Dems were (and still are) against welfare reform, but not Clinton.

As for me being 12, can't you leave your closeted GOP pedophile fantasies alone long enough to have an honest debate?

Geesh, you sickos make me SICK. Go take some more meth and IM some pages, pal!

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 12:18 PM

And what about the kooks on the Right- the skinheads, McVeigh, Nichols, James Kopp, the Unibomber, Eric Rudolph?

Would they all be classified as "on the right"? And even if they were, they are marginalized, vilified and hunted down.

McVeigh never got any speaking engagements at Harvard and Rudolph didnt get to sit next to a president at the DNC convention.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 12:23 PM

Bearman,

Ummm, I don't think Falwell, Robertson, Haggard, etc are Democrats. Kopp was a member of "Operation Rescue", hardly a "left-wing" group. McVeigh, Nichols, and Neo-Nazis are Right-Wing militants.

I think you missed my point.

Some on the Right group "Communists" and "Anti-American" acivists with the Dems (like that KOOK University Professor who, like Falwell and Robertson, blamed America for 9-11; I forget his name). This is as disingenuous as grouping these Reactionary Wackos with the Republicans! It doesn't help the public discourse at all!

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 12:26 PM

Bongos,

Do you deny that some atrocious things have happened during this war? What if I told you that some very prominent Republicans said similar thing? Do you still think things are all rosy and going great in Iraq? Look at what some of the Neocons (including Perle) are saying about the war; what McCain, Warner, etc have said about the war.

Hell, even the president has admitted that terrible things happened at Abu Graib, there are military trials going on NOW for accused rapists and murderers in the ranks of our military.

But you would rather hide your head in the sand? Is that going to win "the hearts and minds"- when we can't even admit and punish wrongdoing?

Oh, that's right- Iraq is a Utopian Paradise of Freedom and Democracy and Lollipops and Chocolate Fountains! Rummy is doing a GREAT job and we shouldn't change a THING about our policy over there since things are going SO SPENDIDLY!

Are ALL Republicans taking Meth, or just the Anti-Gay Gay ones?

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 12:34 PM

Maybe we should hold the far-left kooks as accountable as we do the far-right kooks. I mean the far-leftys hand out abortions like they are candy to children these days, and they undoubtedly have a terrorist-support network! I think those things warrant the same death penalty we gave Mcveigh!

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 01:00 PM

Strong and ridiculous assertions, bearman. How about backing it up with some facts? Oh yeah, almost forgot, the Republicans despise facts and science in general!

I mean, where are abortions handed out like candy? Is that even possible? I know my children didn't get abortions in their trick-or-treat baskets!

But Operation Rescue, like the right wing militants, have known links to terrorists like Kopp and Rudolph. By your logic, we should execute Randall Terry-ist?

Posted by: coulterfan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 01:30 PM

Gee, you can easily forgive Chaney for shooting a guy in a face, but you cannot forget a botched delivery of an anti-Bush joke?

Can you forgive these neo-cons for what they said about Bush?

Richard Perle: At the end of the day, you have to hold the president responsible.

David Frum: [The Iraq fiasco] must ultimately be blamed on "failure at the center"--starting with President Bush.

Kenneth Adelman: [The Bush team] turned out to be among the most incompetent teams in the post-war era. Not only did each of them, individually, have enormous flaws, but together they were deadly, dysfunctional.

Posted by: Christian Wright at November 4, 2006 01:34 PM

coulterfan,

"a long, distinguished career in both the military and in the Senate?"

Are you a graduate of the John F'n Kerry School of Comedy, or are you on drugs?

His "long, distiguished military career" started with four deferments, and a fifth that was turned down. Then he enlisted into the Navy Reserve.

For the first 6 months of service he did nothing. He then completed 4 months of active duty attending Office Candidate School. He spent the next 7 months on the USS Gridley. He spent the next 5 months training for Swift Boat duty.

In November of '68, he report to Vietnam for Swift Boat duty. By March '69, only four months later, he had managed to get himself awarded three Purple Hearts and immediately requested transfer stateside, a rarity among those serving in Vietnam.

As a condition for taking the position as an admiral's aide, Kerry agreed to an extension of his active duty obligation through August 1970. However, on January 3 of 1970, he requested early discharge, serving less that half of the agreed upon tour of duty. He was discharged from active duty on March 1. He continued to serve in the Navy Reserves until February 1972.

While still a Naval Reserve Officer, he joined the Vietnam Veterans Against the War and protested against the war. He testified falsely before Congress, while still in the Naval Reserve, about what he and others did in Vietnam. Late in 1971, he was arrested during one of the protests. He twice traveled to Paris, in 1970 and 1971, while still a Naval Reserve Officer, and met with our enemies, the North Vietnamese.

What a fine, albeit short, military career. He lied to get his medals so he could get out of Vietnam early. He lied to get a gig as an Admiral's aide, then didn't fulfill his obligation. He lied to Congress. He consorted with our enemies.

Now, do you really want me to go into his "distinguished career in the Senate"? Where he has one of the worst attendance records ever? Where he has sponsored a total of 11 bills that have been signed into law in 21 years, an average of one every two years? Where he negotiated a deal which resulted in his brother getting multi-billion dollar development contracts in Vietnam?

Posted by: A-10 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 02:27 PM

coulterfan - Westboro Baptist Church folks are Democrat, always have been. Big Gore supporters.

Posted by: Windybon [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 02:54 PM

Gee, you can easily forgive Chaney for shooting a guy in a face, but you cannot forget a botched delivery of an anti-Bush joke?

The VP was very apologetic about that accident. Kerry stood up and said "I apologize to no one . . . "

Posted by: Windybon [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 02:59 PM

Do you deny that some atrocious things have happened during this war?

No I dont deny it, but when the left paints every member of the military with their brush, I have a problem. A dozen assholes at Abu Ghraib come to light and the libs tar all 130,000 soldiers in Iraq as guilty.

Hell, even the president has admitted that terrible things happened at Abu Graib, there are military trials going on NOW for accused rapists and murderers in the ranks of our military.

Yes, and emphasis on TRIALS, you know, those events where evidence is presented and judgements are made by competant individuals who reference all the information. Murtha made his comments before the trial started; he judged, juried and executed those Marines before any evidence was presented.

But you would rather hide your head in the sand? Is that going to win "the hearts and minds"- when we can't even admit and punish wrongdoing?

Reference your last statement, there are trials going on NOW...is that what you would call not admitting? Fair, open trials, with headlines declaring the fate of those found guilty. The Abu Ghraib dimwits are in prison now, or should we imprison all the soldiers just in case?

Oh, that's right- Iraq is a Utopian Paradise of Freedom and Democracy and Lollipops and Chocolate Fountains! Rummy is doing a GREAT job and we shouldn't change a THING about our policy over there since things are going SO SPENDIDLY!

Oh thats right, Iraq isnt exactly like Switzerland so lets write off not only the effort but the people as well. What? There are still problems to be overcome? We havent turned Iraq into a carbon-copy of Sweden?? RUN! ITS OVER!

Are ALL Republicans taking Meth, or just the Anti-Gay Gay ones?

Is that really the best you can do? Ive got an idea, why dont you call up Michael Steele and call him a 'lawn jockey' or send an email to Condi Rice and let her know you think she is a 'house mammy' for Bush. Show your sensitive liberal side.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 04:01 PM

Gee, you can easily forgive Chaney for shooting a guy in a face, but you cannot forget a botched delivery of an anti-Bush joke?

You think Cheney set out meaning to shoot his friend that day?

Kerry made a joke about the troops, he intended to make the joke, where was the joke?

Why did he say he would apologize to no one, not even those who might have been offended? Why did Kerry not apologize live, instead of posting a half-hearted "you just didnt understand" screed on his website?

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 04:05 PM

CF, the example of a typical lefty talking points kook! Nuff said!

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 04:18 PM

LtB,

I just listened to it again - and what is also rather sad and disturbing is how Kerry's lefty audience lapped it up...they agree, you see? Bunch of elitist cretins...they should move to Holland...they'd feel more at home there, and we could go about the job of gladly defending the liberty even of weaklings and cowards without having the leftwing albatross 'round our necks.

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 04:33 PM

Still waiting for an apology from Bush:

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

It is he who should apologize for losing the war by not planning for post-invasion! He has put our troops and our country in tremendous danger. And now, they posted plans in Arabic on building a nuclear bomb! This administration is the most incompetant, most corrupt, BIGGEST Federal Government in HISTORY!

I long considered myself a libertarian because of my belief that the Feds should butt out of our personal lives (like Goldwater). The Republicans are no longer 'conservative' about anything and they are most definately NOT the party of small government. They want to get into our personal lives, into our bedrooms, and SPEND like there's no END to the pork!

It really takes delusional thinking to remain loyal to such an inept, corrupt, and BIG GOVERNMENT party!

Good luck on Tuesday! If Bush is the best Republicans can do, I'm REALLY anxious to see who the 2008 nominee is (will it be Guiliani who's to the left of Hilary on abortion; or will it be George "I'm a racist pig" Allen, or Romney from that contemptible state of MA, also pro-choice)? Should be fun!

Hey, on a related note, which state has the LOWEST divorce rate? I'll give you a hint- gay marriage is legal in this state and the divorce rate is less than half of the rate in TX! Are the states with the HIGHEST divorce, child abuse, murder, and domestic abuse rates Red or Blue?

Oh, and the Westboro church only liked Gore's dad while he was anti-civil rights. Once he changed his position, they HATED him and actually picketed his funeral. I don't think members of the Westboro "God hates Fags" 'church' voted for Kerry, do you? They probably LOVE Allen, though!

Anyway, I think it's time I found a new sandbox to play in. This one's getting too small anyway -- and too filled with cheerleaders. There is very little left in the way of substance. Maybe I'll stop back from time to time to say hello to friends, but I think I'm pretty much done with this place. Cya.

Posted by: Ricorun [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 07:09 PM

Hey, on a related note, which states have more abortions, and which people are having them? The dems are aborting themselves right out of existence; proven, the more kids you have the more likely you vote republican with the kids following the political lead of their parents. A generation from now the dems will be waaaaayy down, and that is a positive thing for the country.

As to the topic of the Westboro Church, those savages also celebrate the deaths of American soldiers, I wonder who they would vote for? They probably LOVE Murtha, Kennedy, Durbin and Kerry.

Posted by: Lose the Bongos [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 4, 2006 07:38 PM

Kerry has morphed from being an idiot to being simply EVIL.

"the left is just filled to the brim with people who hate America"

Hahahahaha! Oh that's funny Mark. Your head so filled with fantasy and bigotry I wonder how you think you have any business in discussing anything. It's quite a grand delusion you suffer from I just wish you could see it someday. You have so much irrational ignorance and hate it must be a product of your own self-hate that you project onto others! Or perhaps your mimicking the people you are jealous of, the Left, because they actually have a group of people they can give real and warranted criticisms to, instead of being a mimic who devalues the real critisms when using critism incorrectly.

I really have no other comment than that. Your posts never had any political merit, it's all falsehood from a sick mind. I can't add anything to argue about because you delete posts or ingnore the truth when people post, you ignore the truth! That's it! There is no debate with your kind, conservatives, your just dogs going to the slaughter, and the slaughter is bigotry, the absence of a human conscienceness, guilt, feeling, care, or truth. And you never listen. You don't care. And that's what makes you less than the rest of us humans. The Left is out here debating and talking, but the Conservatives act agressive, irrational, unwavering, arrogant and ignore the thinkers and discourse, perfectly happy to be a obstacle, a trouble maker, a pain in the butt for everyone else. Yet still having a void, they should be happy that they have their own group, the goal of being a obstacle for someone, it's the very thing that makes Conservatives a counter to the Left and also the very thing that gives them this void, it is the absence of truth and being actually right.

Posted by: USA at November 4, 2006 11:41 PM

Yessir, the left is out there debating and talking, too bad they arent actually saying anything.

Perhaps after the elections are over the liberals will let us all know what their grand schemes are, they certainly arent giving out any clues beforehand.

"We have a plan, if you elect us we will let you know what it is" say the libs. Well thats just great, another election cycle with dems running on their "I hate Bush" platform. Paragons of rationality, each and every one.

And thats what makes you less than the rest of us humans.
