A local radio personality in Boston has been fired for calling an overweight homosexual woman third-party gubernatorial candidate a "fat lesbian" on the air. This reaction totally shocks me. After all, if Air America can get away with joking about assassinating President Bush multiple times, a talk radio host can call a spade a spade. Maybe he should have come out calling it a "botched joke", then everything would be okay, right?

Matt, your life would be far easier if you remembered to use the [SARCASM] tag.

Im torn by this particular bit. On one hand I dont listen to radio schlocks who regress to this kind of language, I prefer the more refined slanders such as "pompous elitist" or "bloviating windbag" (such as JFKerry for example).
On the other hand, firing a guy seems a bit much, at least give him the chance to apologize on-air and clean up his act.

Clean up his act for what? She apparently is a fat lesbian.

No, Kahn, she is a gravitationally challenged gyno-American with an alternative lifestyle.

I have no doubt that she is what she is, but like I said, Im torn about the language use; its what democrats do. Shouting and getting all pissed is dull and not all that much fun to listen to, it just gets old.
Dont lose your temper, think of something else, call her a 'a gravitationally challenged gyno-American with an alternative lifestyle' or something (hat tip Almiranta) and let the words get lost on the audience; "fat lesbian" is the type of language the libs use.
He should not have been fired is the bottom line, give the guy a chance to redeem himself.

Don't folks normally just get sent to "sensitivity training" before getting fired? I mean if the guy signed a contract or something saying he couldn't do something like this then fine, but where's our "free speech" lefties screaming about the unfairness of this?
Personally if the management wanted to fire the bloke then fine. Though I do think it seems a bit harsh if this is a first time offense. (Who knows I don't hear the radio person at all.)

So wait - what was the offensive word? Fat? Or lesbian?
CO seems to say it's fat. And Lose the Bongos seems to imply it's lesbian. I don't see a problem with either. Hell, I'm fat and admit it. Been getting bigger ever since my knee probl;ems made me stop running. And lesbian isn't a bad word - is it?
Neither seem bad enough for a guy to lose his job over. Does the guy have a family? He only gets a month of insurance you know? Supressing speach is a dangerous thing.
