ANNOUNCEMENT: Matt Margolis & Mark Noonan get a book deal!

What We're Voting For

Interesting UPI poll:

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The "values, morals and character" of a candidate top the pre-election selection process of participants in a UPI-Zogby International poll.

The 8,086 likely U.S. voters who participated in a Zogby interactive poll were asked to select two areas of consideration as they prepare for Tuesday's election in the United States.

The option "their values, morals and character" topped the results with 42.6 percent of those asked giving that response. That choice was first among Republican respondents -- 63.2 percent choose it -- and self-described independents, 39.2 percent of whom listed character. However, it was fifth on the list of Democrats, 24 percent of whom mentioned "values, morals and character."

The top consideration for Democrats was opposition to the war in Iraq; 42.3 percent of Democrats said that was important. But that issue came in fourth overall at 22.1 percent of all participants mentioning it.

Democrats are obsessed about the liberation of Iraq, Republicans are looking for good men and women to lead our country.

Care to guess which motivator will emerge victorious?

Boy, do the "values, morals, and character" matter to the GOP!

Foley, DeLay, Abramoff, Ney, Noe, Safavian, Libby, Cunningham, Ted Stevens, Weldon, and now Haggard!

With "values, morals, and character" like these, it's a wonder the GOP can find any "good men and women" in their party!

For the people who don't speak Republican "values, morals and character" translates to the minority running your lives because the minority is scared.

Unfortunately for you and the Republican Party, for most Americans "values, morals, and character" means a lot more than just opposition to abortion and gay marriage. For most people voting for their Congressman, the most important thing is honesty, integrity, and incorruptability. The Republican party doesn't look so good on those things, do they?

"Republicans are looking for good men and women to lead our country."

It's too bad they're so hard to find. If it was easy, the GOP would be on a roll.

I agree, Ricorun... although I would say it's not hard to find good men and women... just good men and women who want to run for office.

Two of the main GOP candidates I have to vote for here in Colorado are extremely problematic. I would prefer not to vote for them (and my husband absolutely will not vote for one of them... and I can totally understand why). If we had sufficient padding in our majority in Congress, I definitely wouldn't, either, most especially because the bump incumbents have will mean it will be harder to replace him with a better candidate later on. However, with things the way they are, what I see as the results of doing so will be even worse. It's an annoying situation to be in.
