Kerry Was For The Joke Before He Was Against It

Vice President Dick Cheney has this to say (amongst other things) about John Kerry during a speech at Montana Victory Rally:

"Instead they highlight people like John Kerry, their presidential nominee in 2004. Aren't we lucky he lost that election? You remember John Kerry – the senator who voted for the 87 billion dollars before he voted against it … the guy that was always lecturing us about 'nuances.' He's the one, you'll recall, who last year said that American soldiers were 'terrorizing … children' in Iraq. And just this week he took another swipe at the U. S. military. Here's what he said, word for word. Quote: 'You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq.' End quote. Well, apparently Senator Kerry's the one who needs to be educated.

"Of course, now Senator Kerry says he was just making a joke, and he botched it up. I guess we didn't get the nuance. He was for the joke before he was against it.

Also, the GOP tells Kerry to apologize in a new web video.

I guess we didn't get the nuance.

Reminds me of this piece from a couple years ago.

[sigh] - kerry demonstrates no tact when he opens up his mouth but honestly - how far do you want to stretch this? some GOP mouthpiece was just on blitzkrieg (CNN) trying to tie this botched punchline to dems being soft on terror. i mean we are really reaching for straws here and unfortunately your "liberal' media is as complicit as ever keeping this story alive. (compare this to bush getting a media pass after making the obscene statement that a vote for dems is a win for terrorists).

Posted by: orangealert [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 04:50 PM

Id like to stretch it all the way until it breaks and snaps back into the democrats face.

Where was Pelosi on this, or Reid or Kennedy or all the other self-professed leaders on the left? You know, the libs who dont have to worry about appeasing voters this year. The only dems who are saying anything are those who are worried they might lose their election bid...ohhh...now thats backbone and support for the troops.

Your "liberal" media managed to bury the story on the back page and five paragraphs deep. Example: NYT headline, 'Bush Attacks Kerry'. My local paper had it on the ninth page of ten, under the heading of "Iraq News Updates".

I don't think tact has anything to do with it. I think it has more to do with intelligence or lack thereof. Kerry isn't nearly as smart as Liberals think Bush isn't.

(compare this to bush getting a media pass after making the obscene statement that a vote for dems is a win for terrorists).

Since the Dems don't want to interrogate terrorist detainees with anything more than "pretty please", they don't want to try them in military tribunals, they don't want to listen to their phone calls and they don't want to track their finances, how exactly would you describe a vote for Democrats?

Posted by: Retired Spook [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 05:32 PM

Kerry issues an "apology"!

"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended," (emphasis added)
TRANSLATION:
I sincerely regret that the stupid military didn't understand what I said. Although I said study hard or you'll end up 'stuck in Iraq' what I meant was 'I was in Vietnam'"

Posted by: Rathaven [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 06:19 PM

Aye red the staitmint whut Jon Carrie rote on his websight--waz it a appolligy?

Az a retyred millutury man who jined the survus cuz I lakked the abbillitie to get in coleg, I'd lyk fer Senneter Carrie to reelyze thet we has fealinjs two...

Posted by: 1H8L1BS [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 06:37 PM

What kind of apology was this???

Its the old 'reverse apology'. Sounds like an apology but when you read it closely it is the old 'I am sorry if I offended anyone with my comment' sorry. Interpreted: I am not sorry for what I said. I am sorry that your fellings got hurt by what I said.

The Republicans should be going hard and heavy on the advertising over the next week utilizing Mr. Kerry's sound bite as a reason to vote against Democrats.

We don't want another 9/11...vote Republican (or libertarian if you like the candidate).

Posted by: minnesota libertarian at November 1, 2006 06:38 PM

Actually, note that the qualified "apology" was POSTED on the web site, there was no public apology.

Kerry, who said the day before, "I apologize to no one". It is more than likely that one if his handlers posted this. So Kerry would not have to do so himself.

Until Kerry appears publically to give his unqualified "mi aculpa", there has been no apology.

The dems want to call this a distraction, actually it lays bare the TRUE feelings of the dems toward our brave servicemen.

"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform." John Kerry

Now will the Bush, Chaney or Rummy apologies for sending our young people into an Iraq Civil war untrained, without the proper armor, or exit stragedy? We all know the answer. The Neocons apologize for nothing as long as it is someone elses kids dying.

"compare this to bush getting a media pass after making the obscene statement that a vote for dems is a win for terrorists." orangealert

OK:

Kerry's comment: Arrogant and condescending, and a true revelation of his and democrat leadership opinions of military and the working public.

Bush's comments: An insightful assessment of how votes affect the REAL war on terror.

Dems like yourself don't believe there are actually dangerous terrorists out there who want to kill us (including you).

Josie, enough with the talking points already, you moron. And try and learn to spell--it's Cheney, you asshat!!!

Posted by: 1H8L1BS [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 08:14 PM

"they highlight people like John Kerry..."

Yeah, sure. We highlight Kerry about as much as Republicans highlight Foley. Most Democrats I know want Kerry to go away more than you do.

Posted by: Chris at November 1, 2006 08:16 PM

Kerry has made a career out of bashing our Military long before he become a Senator.

His apology was most likely crafted by a staffer not him personaly. The true Kerry made his statement yesterday.

Posted by: Tom at November 1, 2006 08:16 PM

Hillary has condemned Kerry's statements.

O'Reilly was just saying the big winner in this flap was Hillary Clinton, because Kerry is now toast as a Pres. Candidate in 2008.

Joe Trippi, Democrat strategist, and former campaign manager of Howard Dean, was just on O'Rielly saying that the big winner in this flap is Howard Dean. His logic is that if the Dems don't take the House and Senate, then all the Dems would blame Dean...now they'll blame Kerry.

Dontcha just love it how quickly dems turn on each other???

Poor Joshie---he just doesn't pay attention, does he? He managed to string together quite a laundry list of falsehoods and stupidity, didn't he?

According the Joshie, the best-trained military in the history of the world is not trained, they were sent "into a civil war" as if that makes any sense at all, the lack(ed) body armor---though they had and have body armor, in spite of the military-hating Dems voting not to pay for it, and the exit strategy has been outline over and over again, even using very short words and bright colors just for the pathologically stupid, who still can't seem to keep up.

What's a "neocon", Josh? This is another word you toss around. What does it mean?

As for John F'n Kerry, who can be surprised at him taking off on an anti-military rant? For chrissake, this is the guy who lied under oath to Congress back in the 70's simply inventing stories of things that never happened, and claiming that they were true, simply to heap dishonor upon our military. This is the guy who even while he was a serving Lt. in the United States Navy chose to side with the North Vietnamese, even going so far as to secretly and illegally travel to the country, twice, to conspire with them.

This is the man the Libs tried to make Commander in Chief. And they wonder why we think they're nuts.

And did so even before Joshie started spouting his goofball claims.

The Neocons apologize for nothing as long as it is someone elses kids dying.

Im with ya brother. I hated it when that murderous NeoCon Clinton sent our "kids" to attack Serbia, a country that was no threat to us and is located on the other side of the world.

Im trying to remember which branch of the military young Chelsea was assigned to during that conflict. Refresh my memory?

May I be hopefully not the first but at least the next in saying we need Cheney as GOP party chairman starting in '08. He doesn't mince words, and he's always right on target.

Posted by: Morris [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 08:50 PM

First of all, Kerry explained on the radio that he missed one word, the word he left out was us. Making the statement: '...you can do well. If you don't, you get us stuck in Iraq.'

Second, isn't it funny how much Mark sounds like Dick Cheney, and has the same sicked attitude.

So post this, and all this Republican foaming-at-the-mouth-bigotry can be shut down with one post.

Posted by: USA at November 1, 2006 08:57 PM

I don't recall Cheney riding on the bow of Kerrys swift boat. Bush should apologize for this war. Now he has left a soldier behind in Sadir City and Rummy does not even know about it.

Posted by: Buckeye at November 1, 2006 09:12 PM

The Republican hordes are massing at the gate...on Tuesday the illegals and felons on the dem side will be overwhelmed by our votes! Pelosi will go back to wearing slutty dresses instead of calling herself grandma...Teddy will resume drinking heavily....Murtha will fall down the capital steps...and Kerry will be a bad footnote in democratic folklore. All will be right with the world and the adults will remain in control. Bite on you ankle biters you provide us with entertainment....Sunday Saddam goes down just in time to remind the voters of what we are fighting.

USA,

It took Carry 48 hours to think of that? The "us" word was left out? Why then didn't he mention this 24 hours earlier when he said, "I apologize to no one"? Is it because his speech writers were working overtime to figure out how to spin this, and only you dim-o-crat lemmings would believe this latest lie?

Posted by: Bane of Liberals' Existence [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 2, 2006 01:13 PM

Kerry is a wishy washy being of a human.
He is an ill-educated walking neanderthal who thinks he is the king of ideas. He is actually the proprietor of horrible judgement and policy and behavior..
