Poor Kerry, he's been such a loser lately. Must be part of that segment of Vietnam Vets who became warped from that experience. As for Murtha...what does he know that changed him from a hawk to a dove? Rather than attack him or defend him, we need to dig deeper to find the answer(s) before chalking it off to "politics". Besides Murtha, there seem to be an inordinate amount of Vets running for office who are against the war. Why is it that those who have experienced the horrors of war are not so quick to send soldiers off to war but those who have never gone to war, are the first to do so?

When Bush's critics do not characterize his (or his administration's) responses to criticism as "intolerance of dissent", as if disagreement with that dissent is a violation of the first amendment.
When Bush's critics stop mischaracterizing the war as "unilateral" and acknowledge the fact that over 30 allies were in our coalition when the invasion took place.
When Bush's critics acknowledge the fact that the Clinton administration also stated or implied that Saddam had WMD's, before Bush took office.

Bigfoot, you only covered a very few of the things that would be necessary to engage in a rational and intelligent discussion of Iraq. You know, the kind of discussion we conservatives have all the time, among ourselves.
And the first thing I think the Dems would have to do to be eligible for such a discussion would be to study a little history, and learn and understand that war is messy, war is unpredictable, war is dangerous, and war is always going to result in some errors in judgement, some actions that appear to be errors at the time but later turn out to have been the right decisions, some spectacular victories, some spectacular defeats, and the inability to accurately assess any of these until quite some time has passed and all the information is in, including the down-the-line results and consequences.
I think a Dem football game would end at the first fumble or penalty, and their World Series would be lucky to get through the first game if one team got ahead of the other. Certainly, if these Libs had had any input into World War Two, for example, we would have just rolled over and slunk away with out tails between our yellow-stained legs the first time a Lib had the opportunity to wail "But it's soooo HAAAAAAARRRRDDDDD!!!"
The Libs lack two things which they would have to acquire to be part of an intelligent and rational discussion. One is the historical perspective, but the other is intellecutal honesty. Until they can apply the same criteria to everyone, instead of making up new rules just to support their own political agendas, they simply cannot be taken seriously.

Rood commanded another Swift Boat during the same operation and was awarded the Bronze Star himself for his role in attacking the Viet Cong ambushers. Having read several of Bigfoot’s previous posts I believe he understands that Bush and his administration have a well laid out plan and have been making adjustments as needed. "On Aug. 22 an officer who was present supported Kerry's version, breaking a 35-year silence. William B. Rood commanded another Swift Boat during the same operation and was awarded the Bronze Star himself for his role in attacking the Viet Cong ambushers. He said Kerry and he went ashore at the same time after being attacked by several Viet Cong onshore.
Rood said he was the only other officer present. Rood is now an editor on the metropolitan desk of the Chicago Tribune, which published his first-person account of the incident in its Sunday edition. Rood said he had refused all interviews about Kerry's war record, even from reporters for his own paper, until motivated to speak up because Kerry's critics are telling "stories I know to be untrue" and "their version of events has splashed doubt on all of us."
Rood described two VietCong ambushes, both of them routed using a tactic devised by Kerry who was in tactical command of a three-boat operation. At the second ambush only the Rood and Kerry boats were attacked.
Rood: Kerry, followed by one member of his crew, jumped ashore and chased a VC behind a hooch--a thatched hut--maybe 15 yards inland from the ambush site. Some who were there that day recall the man being wounded as he ran. Recollections of those who go through experiences like that frequently differ.
With our troops involved in the sweep of the first ambush site, Richard Lamberson, a member of my crew, and I also went ashore to search the area. I was checking out the inside of the hooch when I heard gunfire nearby.
Not long after that, Kerry returned, reporting that he had killed the man he chased behind the hooch. He also had picked up a loaded B-40 rocket launcher, which we took back to our base in An Thoi after the operation.
Rood disputed an account of the incident given by John O'Neill in his book "Unfit for Command," which describes the man Kerry chased as a "teenager" in a "loincloth." Rood said, "I have no idea how old the gunner Kerry chased that day was, but both Leeds and I recall that he was a grown man, dressed in the kind of garb the VC usually wore."
