American Legion Demands Apology From Kerry

Kerry says he won't take it from people who didn't serve - well, those who did serve, as represented by the American Legion ("For God and Country Since 1919"), want an apology:

INDIANAPOLIS, October 31, 2006 - The National Commander of The American Legion called on Sen. John Kerry to apologize for suggesting that American troops in Iraq are uneducated.

“As a constituent of Senator Kerry’s I am disappointed. As leader of The American Legion, I am outraged,” said National Commander Paul A. Morin. “A generation ago, Sen. Kerry slandered his comrades in Vietnam by saying that they were rapists and murderers. It wasn’t true then and his warped view of today’s heroes isn’t true now.”

While addressing a group of college students at a campaign rally in Pasadena, CA., Monday, Kerry suggested that they receive an education or “if you don’t, you’ll get stuck in Iraq.”
“While The American Legion shares the senator’s appreciation for education, the troops in Iraq represent the most sophisticated, technologically superior military that the world has ever seen,” Morin said. “I think there is a thing or two that they could teach most college professors and campus elitists about the way the world works.

“And while we are on the topic of education, why doesn’t the senator and his comrades in Congress improve the GI Bill so all of today’s military members – reserves and guard included – can achieve the educational aspirations that the senator so highly values?” Morin said. “The senator’s false and outrageous attack was over-the-top and he should apologize now.”

I'm standing with my fellow veterans in demanding an apology - and I'll raise the stakes: I think the United States Senate should censure the alleged Senator from Massachusetts. I'm just sick and tired of these leftwing Democrats and their ceaseless slanders of all that is great and glorious in the United States of America. Pay attention, lefties:

The men and women of our armed forces aren't children, and they aren't victims. They are the best and bravest this country has, and they have volunteered to lay down their lives, if need be, in our defense. Do not think you can insult them - and those of us who were one of them in the past - and not pay a price for it. We're paying close attention, and we're going to act accordingly. We veterans know who is for America, and who isn't.

UPDATE: McCain comments, via NRO's The Corner:

You can't make this up. His statement, basically, was so demeaning to the men and women who are serving in the military that you will be even more grateful than you are at this moment that George Bush is president of the United States…

You can't make this up. His statement was that if you get an education and you do well, then you don't have to go to Iraq, and if you don't have an education, then you have to go to Iraq. Do you know how demeaning that is to the men and women who are serving so magnificently in the cause of freedom and are fighting and dying in Iraq today? As I said, you can't make it up.

McCain is a royal pain in the neck at times, but I've found that when push comes to shove and our national honor is at stake, he's always right there with us.

From a friend of mine sent to our News Letter -
News & Views for publication. Not onlt was Don a Green Beret in Vietnam, but now hos first son has earned his Green Beret and his second son is enduring honorable pain to earn his.

Please, if you can, help make Don's wish to debate Kerry come to life.

An Open Letter To Hanoi John Kerry

Dear Senator Kerry;

On your website www.johnkerry.com you closed your recent attack on the Administration with “Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men. And this time it won’t work because we’re going to stay in their face with the truth and deny them even a sliver of light for their distortions. No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut and run policy in Afghanistan and a stand still and lose strategy in Iraq.”

Further, you wrote: “It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.”

Mr. Senator; I wore the uniform of our country in Vietnam, as well as the Green Beret that I earned, and I am a Republican hack, and will gladly debate you anywhere, anytime, anyplace. To me, you are a despicable, liar, coward, and traitor. You asked one person in the audience during the 2004 Presidential race if he was questioning your patriotism. I am. You are all about “Me,” and have never been about “We.”

How dare you write: “afraid to debate real men.” You have no clue what it is like to be a real man. You are simply a Gigolo in a Brooks Brothers suit, who dated the Hollywood elite until you finally landed a cash cow. You’re a male whore, Senator, and every move you have made since you were a naval reserve officer (who consorted with the enemy during war in 1972 in Paris ) has been on the backs and lives of others. The doctor who, using tweezers, removed the tiny steel sliver from your skin for one of your Purple Hearts, compared the wound to being less severe than “the prick of a rose thorn.” And where did the shrapnel come from, Kerry? You shooting your own M79 grenade round too close at some rocks and getting a blow-back. You got another for embedding rice in your ass with your own grenade blowing up a pile of rice. By your standards, I qualified for 2 dozen Purple Hearts in Vietnam , but my sense of self-worth as a “real man” would never let me consider denigrating the medal in such a manner. As chairman of the host committee of the Senate, you killed HR1633, the Vietnam Human Rights Act which had passed in the House with over 100 votes and only 1 dissenting vote. While you let this bill die in committee, more innocent Montagnards, Cham, and some Buddhists sects in Vietnam were tortured, executed, and falsely accused and imprisoned in Vietnam, while your assets in your blind trusts continued to make more money for you in Hanoi. You know, Senator, like that 1 billion dollar deep sea port deal your first cousin C. Stewart Forbes made with Hanoi back in 1992, while you quashed 42,000 pieces of evidence about American MIA/POW’s as Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on MIA/POW Affairs, which I testified for. Tell, me Senator, wasn’t that same cousin also the Administrator of your blind trusts? I had friends, Senator, who were POW’s who were tortured listening to your anti-war rhetoric, all so you could gain political office some day. When the Swift Boat Veterans and POW’s for the Truth publicly-exposed your phony lying sorry ass, how did you respond? Even though you are the wealthiest member of Congress (Thanks Terreza), you started a publicly-funded legal fund, so you could file suit against a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, and a large group of noble, decorated Vietnam veterans. Your brothers in arms, right? You called our soldiers in Iraq “terrorists” and one of them was my son? You labeled my fellow Vietnam veterans and me as loose cannons and the misfits of American society with your words and antics, as a self-created war hero turned pacifist, all for political expedience, yours. We unfairly suffered for decades while you selfishly grew your career, fertilizing it with the blood of real heroes, Senator.

You’re a real piece of work, John Kerry. And you want to be my President? Commander in chief of my offspring? I will debate you, argue with you face-to-face, or you can simply file suit against me, too. Please do. I would love to get you on the stand.

By the way, one last question, back during the good old Jimmy Carter amnesty for draft dodger days, wasn’t Senator John Warner Secretary of the Navy? You know, someone who might sign a newer, nicer more politically-correct discharge instead of an undesirable discharge. Now let’s fast forward to 2004. If you were the Democratic candidate for President, why was Senator Warner, a longtime Republican on your short list for your Secretary of Defense? Sure helped him develop amnesia about signing discharges, didn’t it?

Anytime, anywhere, Senator.

Kahn,

We're certainly all seething out here - I don't recall getting "stuck" in the Navy...as I remember it, I was a patriotic 18 year old who wanted to serve his country. Perhaps a bit of a foolish young man, but certainly not one who joined because he had no choice...

But this is it - after 40 years of "blame America first", this really is what our Democratic Party is all about. A complete and nauseating contempt for America and its institutions. We're just a convenience for the Kerry's of the world - a rich, fat nation which allows generous tax shelter's to protect a rich wife's assets from those "taxes on the rich" they are always prattling about...we're a vehicle for their playing on the world stage. And the troops? Just so many toy soldiers who don't matter at all...

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 01:11 AM

It's a stupid spin, and something I think he should apologise for. Reguardless of if it was a "botched joke" it has been taken and does seem to be an attack on our troops. I'm sorry if this is just a "simple misunderstanding" then by all means why not apologise?

LOL... Just Say NO to the John's.. McCain flips and flops as much as Kerry.

If Col. Ted Guy ( http://www.soft-vision.com/hanoi/ )was still with us ( McCains SRO at the Plantation PoW Camp NVN ) he would tell you some interesting facts about McCain. Col. Larson ( http://www.soft-vision.com/hanoi/larson ) and he both did an article for an AZ newspaper about McCains claim to "Torture" not being true ( I have it of any one feels they want to see it) among other things.

No Matter: Good News:

( Nicholson is a former US Army Ranger )

VETERANS DAY UPDATE 01: The Honorable R. James Nicholson, Secretary of
Veterans Affairs, and leaders of major veterans organizations on 18 OCT called on
America's veterans to help kindle a new spark of patriotism on Veterans Day 11 NOV
by wearing the medals they earned during military service. "We are announcing a
Veterans Pride Initiative to remind Americans of the pride and honor in the
hearts of those who have served," Nicholson said. "We expect Americans will see
our decorated heroes unite in spirit at ceremonies, in parades and elsewhere as a
compelling symbol of courage and sacrifice on Veterans Day, the day we set
aside to thank those who served and safeguarded our national security. The campaign
is modeled after a tradition in Australia and New Zealand, countries who honor
the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) on 25 APR. ANZAC Day sees
veterans wearing their military decorations whatever they are doing on that day.”
Nicholson said he hopes a U. S. tradition will ensue to emulate this pride in
being a veteran and in honoring our veterans. VA is offering information about
the campaign on its Web page, http://www.va.gov/veteranspride/ where veterans
also can obtain information on the correct order of precedence for each military
service's award, about how to replace mislaid medals, and learn how to confirm
the decorations to which they are entitled. [Source: VA News Release 18 Oct

Aaron,

I suppose you think that is some kind of massively clever thing to put up. I've got one, too:

2,336.

That is the number of Marines killed between September 15 and November 25, 1944 at the Battle of Peleliu.

I guess after that, you would have surrendered to the Japanese.

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 02:06 AM

CALL TO ACTION!!

ATTENTION ALL VETERANS

I'm retired Army. I know a lot of veterans. I'm contacting every veteran I know. I'm making sure they're aware of the Kerry comment and of his refusal to apologize. And then I'm making sure they commit to vote next Tuesday.

Veterans are a strong voice in our Nation. We will send a loud and clear message to Senator Kerry from the voting booth.

Apologize or not, my opnion of you won't change.

Right on, Kahn! John Effing Kerry is a b*stard, regardless. He a jerk who joined the military because his initials were JFK, and he wanted to be JFK. When the going got tough over there, his boat headed downstream until the shooting stopped. Then he came back, stuck his finger up his a..I mean, in the air, and jumped on the anti-war bandwagon. What a phony!

Kahn, looks like your family and mine have a lot in common, with all the people we've had join the military. I guess, according to Lurch Heinz, we're not very smart...

Posted by: 1H8L1BS [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 04:47 AM

Honestly, are you people retarded or are you intentionally not getting it? Kerry, when referring to uneducated people getting stuck in Iraq was clearly talking about the President, not the soldiers.

Personally, I think you DO get that, but you're pouncing on the admittedly mangled rhetoric out of desperation. You're looking down the barrel of an electoral gun, shaking in your boots, and the only option is to make it sound like Kerry said something he didn't. Shameful, but nothing new.

How pathetic can you get?

Posted by: Cyberactor [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 09:58 AM

Cyberactor

Your intellectual vacancy is stunning! If what you say is true then Kerry meant that if you're uneducated and lazy then you will end up at a dead end job like President of the United States. Does that make any sense? I bet even to a left wing fanatical kook such as yourself it doesn't

Mark

Ask Aarontime if he knows how many soldiers have died in Afghanistan. If he doesn't know that number off the top of his head then he has proven himself a vicious military hater. Only someone with a seething rage against our military would use the deaths as propaganda.

Posted by: CJ [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 10:23 AM

Honestly, are you people retarded

Cyber, many of us who are offended and insulted are Veterans. Like Kerry, you consider us retarded now?

You are backing a total loser. The Swift Vets have been right all along. If you or Kerry want to prove them wrong, just encourage Kerry to release his Military Jacket, the full and complete jacket, to the public for scrutiny, as Bush did and the left demanded.

Posted by: Lew Waters [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 10:32 AM

"Honestly, are you people retarded or are you intentionally not getting it?"

Apparently D Candidate for senate Harold Ford is also retarded or doesn't get it either. He has called for Kerry to apologize as well.

Posted by: phnxbmed at November 1, 2006 10:47 AM

Cyberactor,

How pathetic can you get?

Consider for a moment that Senator Kerry actually did mean it as a joke aimed at President Bush. Is it appropriate to use the troops, who volunteered and are willingly serving in Iraq and elsewhere, as a prop in your attempt to insult their Commander-in-Chief? I think not.

Senator Kerry had ample opportunity to apologize for the impression that he was insulting the troops, but instead of doing the honorable thing, he tries to blame everyone from Rush Limbaugh to Tony Snow for his Freudian slip. He even goes to the point of calling everyone who doesn't see that he actually meant the President, crazy.

The ones who are pathetic are Senator Kerry, you, and the rest of the Democrats/liberals who are not condemning him for his "joke" and for not apologizing.

Posted by: A-10 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 11:00 AM

Mark sez:

"Your intellectual vacancy is stunning! If what you say is true then Kerry meant that if you're uneducated and lazy then you will end up at a dead end job like President of the United States."

Gee, your knack for distortion doesn't end just at saying that Kerry was demeaning the troops (which he wasn't and you know it). You're capable of putting even MORE words in his mouth that he didn't say. What Kerry said, and here I'll agree with him, is that the President isn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier and it is his intellectual shortcomings that have lead to the disaster in Iraq.

The Presidency a dead-end job? No one suggested that, you silly bozo. But it is clear that Dubya, sub-par in every respect, ascended to the presidency because of his name and connections. Not, sadly, because of his smarts. If anyone should show understanding about a mangled sentence, it is the man who said that the terrorists never stop thinking of ways to harm America and "neither do we."

Get it now? Or do you need even further clarification?

Posted by: Cyberactor [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 11:06 AM

Aw, gee. It was C.J. who made the comment. Not Mark.

See? Anyone can make a mistake.

Posted by: Cyberactor [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 11:13 AM

Thomas Lifson over at The American Thinker has a great post about this today. This paragraph just nails it:

Kerry can back peddle and claim he was talking about President Bush all he wants. The words speak for themselves. If there was a botched joke, on what was the humor based? George Bush getting stuck because of a supposed lack of study must be seen in relation to something else in order to be ironic and funny. Surely there is no alternative to the presumption that losers get stuck in the Army as employment of last resort. The media, led by the New York Times, has been peddling this notion for a number of years. That’s what would make Kerry’s intended joke funny. Sort of. If you are a Democrat who hates the military and thinks soldiers are dupes.

What a delicious irony it is that the impetus for the Donks failure to achieve their goal of winning back one or both houses of Congress next week is a "botched joke" by one of their own. Ya gotta love it!! The biggest "botched joke" of all is what's happened to the Party of FDR.

Cyber,

You are bluffing with a pair of twos here. If I were you I would fold right now. You are losing this argument so badly it is appalling.

By the way, your BDS slip is clearly showing beneath your skirt.

Away with you ya scabby pr1ck.

If anyone should show understanding about a mangled sentence, it is the man who said that the terrorists never stop thinking of ways to harm America and "neither do we."

That sounds very much like the statement that Kerry made a while back that American troops shouldn't be terrorizing Iraqi women and children in their homes in the dead of night -- that Iraqis should be doing that. Remember that?, Nah, I didn't think so.

Posted by: Retired Spook [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 11:22 AM

GoOPer, I'm hardly alone. Shoot, even Chris Matthews admitted last night, and Dick Armey agreed, that the insult was directed at Bush, not the military.

It's sad, really, that you guys couldn't muster this kind of outrage when, say, one of your own was discovered chasing kids. Or when it was discovered that the White House secretly insults Evangelicals behind their backs. Or that your former Majority Leader was illegally funneling money to his home state. Or...shoot, pick your GOP scandal. There are dozens.

But no, you're getting "outraged" by something that amounts to nothing more than a mangled joke about Dubya being a dimwit. That's what I loved about Olbermann's show last night. He put the whole thing in a nutshell by essentially stating that Bush is so stupid, he can't even recognize it when he's being called stupid.

That's George for ya!

Posted by: Cyberactor [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 11:31 AM

"The Swift Vets have been right all along. If you or Kerry want to prove them wrong, just encourage Kerry to release his Military Jacket, the full and complete jacket, to the public for scrutiny, as Bush did and the left demanded."

The Swift Boaters have been proven wrong and inaccurate time and time again but continue to lap it up.

We'll never know Bush's full military record as it was destroyed 'mistakenly'. His record was spotty at best and we'll never know unfortunately. Kind of convenient for him eh?

What if Kerry's military jacket was 'mistakenly' shredded by a staffer. You'd understand that right? For some reason I think most here would say it was intentionally shredded to hide something. I feel the same way about Bush's records.

Posted by: Morphie [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 1, 2006 11:44 AM

Cyber,

What is amazing is that you are that mindless - you know, we have all seen the words and/or heard the words out of Kerry's mouth...that wasn't any frickin' joke...he was dead serious and he didn't mangle anything.

Now, I grant that Kerry didn't sit down that day and say to himself, "how can I go out and deliberately insult America's troops and veterans" - but the words he used are out of his true heart, and his dripping contempt for America and its military, on display ages ago during his mendacious testimony to the Senate, are clear for all to see...except you, who apparantly don't have a mind, but just a playback machine for talking points.

KERRY IS A TEASONIST FROM BACK IN VIET NAM DAYS, HE IS A LIAR, THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BROUGHT UP ON CHARGES THEN, AND SHOULD RESIGN NOW. IF THIS HAD BEEN A GOP MEMBER, YOU "KNOW THE LEFT WOULD HAVE DEMANDED A RESIGNATION....IT SHOULD ALSO BE DONE FOR THEIR OWN....NO DOUBLE STANDARDS SHOULD BE OKAY". THE GOP NEEDS TO SHOW THESE ADS FROM VIET NAM, LAST WEEK AND YESTERDAY, AND USE "THIS GIFT OF KERRY THAT KEEPS ON GIVING".

IF THIS DOESN'T ENERGIZE THE GOP BASES, THEN THEY WILL DESERVE TO LOSE AT THE VOTING BOOTHS.

VOTE GOP, AND STAND UP TO THESE 'SECULAR PROGRESSIVE/COMMIE TYPES.

Cyberactor,

Ask an insult comic, the important thing to remember about jokes and jabs is they are stupid if you have to explain them. Then to top it off, Kerry's first response is to attack those who took the statment at face value instead of trying to clarify.

The fact that media personalities even had to discuss what was even meant by that statement makes it look even more foolish.

Cyberactor....so he was attacking Bush's intelligence?

Strange, considering Bush had better grades than Kerry at the same school...Yale. Bush has a higher IQ than Kerry. Bush had higher military scores than Kerry.

It's pretty pathetic when a really dumb guy is attacking another for being dumb. Or is it more pathetic to have a really really dumb guy defend the dumb senator like you are doing?

Finally, it's hard to give Kerry the benefit of the doubt on this as you are so inclined to do. Let's face it, Kerry has been trashing our troops since 1970 so why should we believe him now?

"The men and women of our armed forces aren't children, and they aren't victims."

Incorrect.
How do you think the children of this country feel about people like you Mark while they watch their generation die?

Cyberactor,

"even Chris Matthews admitted last night...that the insult was directed at Bush, not the military."

Now there's an unbiased opinoin. From the Chris Matthews bio: "Matthews has worked for four Democratic politicians. He was a presidential speechwriter for four years during the administration of Jimmy Carter. He served as a top aide to long-time Speaker of the House of Representatives Tip O'Neill for six years. He worked in the U.S. Senate for five years on the staffs of Senators Frank Moss and Edmund Muskie before running for U. S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania."

Additionally, suddenly Mr. Matthews can read Senator Kerry's mind. Maybe he was thinking "George Bush", but, upon checking the transcript, there is no mention of the President in the "joke".

"It's sad, really, that you guys couldn't muster this kind of outrage when, say, one of your own was discovered chasing kids."

HELLO. There was outrage from conservatives from the President to the average poster on conservative blogs. Did you miss it, or did you ignore it?

My question to you is: Where was your outrage when one of your own was discovered having sex with kids? You re-elected Gerry Studds six times. You gave him standing ovations. You gave him committee chairmanships. You did not force him to resign, as would have happened to Foley if he had not done so on his own. Your hypocracy knows no bounds.

Morphie,

"The Swift Boaters have been proven wrong and inaccurate time and time again but continue to lap it up."

Actually, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth have NOT been proven wrong. In fact, because of the Swift Boaters bring Senator Kerry's distortions of the facts to light, the Senator has had to backtrack on some of his claims. For instance, the fact that President Nixon ordering them into Cambodia (when Richard Nixon wasn't even the President at the time in question), was "seared, seared, into my memory" has morphed into "we were near Cambodia, I think, sometime in 1968, maybe".

We have gone round and round about the 3 Purple Hearts, here and elsewhere on the internet. Lets just say that the circumstances surrounding two of the incidents are in question. Something about the "wounds" being self-inflicted. Something about the lack of enemy action. Something about Kerry recommending himself for the medals.

Senator Kerry has pledged to sign a SF 180 and release his military records. In fact, its been something like 644 days or so since he made that pledge. He has failed to live up to his pledge. If everything Senator Kerry says about his service is true, why won't he release his military records? Does he have something to hide? Does he have a less than honorable discharge? Were his Purple Hearts unwarranted? Enquiring minds want to know.

"We'll never know Bush's full military record as it was destroyed 'mistakenly'."

Funny, all of his military files (less medical records) are available on this USA Today page. If they were "mistakenly" destroyed, how did USA Today get ahold of them. (Hint: The President signed a SF 180 authorizing a release of his records)

"What if Kerry's military jacket was 'mistakenly' shredded by a staffer. You'd understand that right?"

The problem with that rationale is that the President already released his records and Senator Kerry has not.

The Swift Boaters have been proven wrong and inaccurate time and time again but continue to lap it up.

MOrphie, besides being wrong, you are full of BDS. The only "proven wrong" anyone ever opffered to Swift vets charges was, "it's a lie." Nothing of substance.

As for records, Bush's was opened and scrutinized, down to dental records and pay receipts. Where was Kerrys? Why does his "Honorable" discharge carry a 1978 date when he would have gotten out in 1972? How can he in good conscience wear three Purple Hearts and have not spent a single night in a hospital?

Kerry's own words were recorded as he slammed us back in 1971 and again today. I have teh book where he said, in the mid-eighties, that he didn't want anything to do with Viet Nam and only asked for Swift Boiats because they patrolled off shore, away from the fighting. I have a copy of the public portion of his own draft record where he took 4 student deferments and once his fifth was denied, he enlisted in the Navy.

What else is hidden in his records we don't know because he refuses to allow anyone but those friendly towards him to ever see them.

He's as full of crap as you are. Time for the left to put up or shut up.

Good posts, A-10 and Lew. It still shows the acts
of 'hiding behind only the words of Kerry, but not
the records of fact'. If he wants to clear the air and prove the Swiftees wrong, all he needs to do, is release the 180 reports. He will not, as
he is a liar, and should have been held for treason by our own country. I say, the GOP should
run ads showing/hearing his words before the committee in 197l?, last weeks rant, and yesterday
as well, ALL side by side. The GOP doesn't know how to fight like street fighters as the Dems do,
and this, is part of the problem. Our guys get kicked out of office or resign, a Dem is backed by
other Dems, and go right on staying in their jobs.
Just look at the Fat One Kennedy-he is responsible
for a girl dying, and has held his seat for years.
It's not saying much for the voting public in MA.
is it? With both Kennedy and Kerry there, one has
to wonder if these people from MA. are 'stuck on stupid'....just as Kerry intimates our troops are.
