Republicans need to grow some Johnsons and stand up to the left's professional victims.
One did, Lew, and he was vilified and lied about by the drive-by media(DBM) and some more conservative pundits. Limbaugh, by questioning the substance of the Fox-Sheehan ad in Missouri, was accused of attacking poor Mike, and his words were taken out of context--again.
You know what really burns me up about the Fox-Sheehan ad? When he states that Talent, and Steele, oppose the "most promising" type of stem cell research. This is an outright lie--Talent and Steele are opposed to embryonic stem cell research, which is the least promising. In fact, it has been labeled "a bust" by some leading experts.
Both Talent and Steele, as well as many other Republicans who are being slandered, support adult stem cell and cord blood stem cell research--the most-promising research out there.
It figures that Fox-Sheehan didn't read the Missouri amendment--he's a lefty shill. I hope someday his disease, as well as others, are wiped out, but I have no more use for this liar...

It doesn't take much to learn about a subject, if you really want to know about it. Mr. Fox should have learned about what he was supporting before supporting it. He was wrong; now let us see if he is man enough to come out - before the elections - and say so. Not holding my breath here.

Its wrong for a Parkinson's sufferer to speak publicly in favor of candidates in favor of embryonic stem cell research, because he's an actor and therefore the whole thing is staged.
However, its ok for an actor to portray Jesus Christ, the Lord Our Savior, in an ad in favor of candidates against embryonic stem cell research. Surely this is blasphemous, right? Where's all your outrage, you good Christians? Jeremiah, why so quiet?

But you will have us believe the actress, football player, and baseball player in the Republican ad against stem cell research read every word of the ballot initiative.
Just about anyone of us with Fox's means and influence would be doing the same thing. He campaigned for Arlen Specter. Does that also make him a dupe of the wingnuts on the right? I don't think Fox gives two sh**s about left or right. Fox simply wants to spend another day with his children. Outside of prayer and stem cell research there is little hope of cure.
And the other thing I know about Republicans, if there is ever a cure, the very same who criticize Fox would be using their influence to jump line for treatment. A person like Rush Oxymoron Limbaugh inflected with Parkinson’s disease wouldn’t simply jump line, he would trample Democrats and Republicans alike to get stem cell treatment. It would be very similar to the dirty little secret of many evangelicals going away for a while to exercise their right of choice.

Steve,
This is Blogs for Bush, probably one of the most open and free blog in the world. We allow all sorts of comments here from all manner of positions...you'd think by now that you'd understand that, left and right, what people here can't stand is mindless parroting of talking points.
The issue on this thread is Fox' lies and his lack of knowledge of the issue at hand - he's perfectly free to comment on any subject he wishes...we're just saying he's an empty suit, a dupe of the left...he hasn't even read the ballot initiative...

Talent is most certainly opposed to the stem cell research Fox is talking about. Trying to bring in adult or cord blood research to claim that because of that, technically Talent supports "stem cell research" is just a misleading red herring: no one is debating those things, and they have been around for decades. Just because they can technically be called stem cell treatments doesn't mean that they have bearing on this particular debate.
It isn't a zero sum game: ESC is considered to be promising BECAUSE OF, not in spite of, the success of ASC treatments, and even those doctors that oppose ESC treatments on moral grounds agree that it is true that ESC have many qualities making them more suited to full on cures for many conditions.

Michael J. Fox campaigns for Claire McCaskill, not for or against Missouri Amendment 2. Why is it relevant if he had read it or not? Sen. Jim Talent has opposed a proposed Missouri constitutional amendment to legalize stem cell research and voted against easing the restrictions President Bush imposed on federal funding for stem cell research.
Are you just being ‘a little confused’ or are you deliberately distorting the issue?

Was he an empty suit, a dupe of the right when he was campaigning for Arlen Specter? Also, it's interesting to note the ever-shifting attacks on MJF. I guess this marks an evolution (oops, sorry, I know "evolution" is considered a swear word to you, Noonan) from the Limbaugh position.
The claim that you "can't stand" the "mindless parroting of talking points" is the joke of the day so far, by the way. Apparently you don't even read Margolis' posts.

Mark: "The issue on this thread is Fox' lies and his lack of knowledge of the issue at hand - he's perfectly free to comment on any subject he wishes...we're just saying he's an empty suit, a dupe of the left...he hasn't even read the ballot initiative..."
Actually, Fox never mentioned the MO ammendment issue in his ad. The issue Fox addressed in his ad (and thus the issue which really should be at hand) was Tester's record on two points: (a) whether Tester opposed expanding stem cell research, and (b) whether Tester had "even wanted to criminalize the science that gives us the chance for hope". Those are the "subjects" Fox addressed. And thus, those are the ones upon which Fox's comments should be judged. A-10 and I had a good go-round in a couple recent previous topics which you might find worth a read. Although I think it's fair to say that A-10 is more fine with the whole idea of character assassination than I am (I don't mean to single him out in that respect, though), at least he eventually addressed the message once he got done attacking the messenger.
What we have in the present topic is something even more eggregious. What we have here is an example of attacking the messenger for a message he never raised in the first place! And he didn't raise it because, as is clear from the quotation Mark included in the present topic, Fox did not feel he was sufficiently informed about it. So I guess the question is, if "he's perfectly free to comment on any subject he wishes", is it appropriate to attack his character because he avoided commenting on a subject he didn't feel competent to address? That seems counter-intuitive to me.
Perhaps one could argue that Fox should have been intimately familiar with the MO ammendment issue even though he chose not to mention anything about it. To that I ask... why? For one thing, the MO amendment initiative will affect only what happens in MO. It will have no affect on the national debate at all. On the other hand, the winner of the MO senate race will. So unless Fox intends to move to MO, why should he be intimately conversive on their ammendment initiative?

“ESC is considered to be promising BECAUSE OF, not in spite of, the success of ASC treatments, and even those doctors that oppose ESC treatments on moral grounds agree that it is true that ESC have many qualities making them more suited to full on cures for many conditions.” plunge
That is in total contradiction to what I’ve heard.
The successes that scientist are having with ASCR make the continued research with ESC far LESS desirable. The problem with ESC is they are totally undifferentiated cells. Millions upon millions of complicated combinations using tens of thousands of genes need to be arraigned in a specific structure and sequence for any application to manipulate them make it near impossible to achieve ANY positive results. ESC need to go from a totally neutral state to its intended state without any flaws to work. Test so far using ESC has resulted in tumors and highly unstable tissue growth and is therefore unusable.
ASC advantage over ESC is that they are far past the stage of ESC development but still very pliable for unique use. Because of their advanced stage, scientists have far less work to finish specific sequencing needed for a particular application. That is a significant reason ASC has had success.
Another problem with ESC not found with ASC is the rejection factor. See, ESC’s are the result of a mother’s egg and a father’s sperm. The resulting embryo is a unique individual where the tissue and organs that are formed from its development would not match the DNA of either the mother or father. Bits and pieces of DNA from both parents provide the offspring with its own unique DNA sequencing. ASC’s don’t have this problem as the stem cells taken from the adult will match perfectly with donor back to him/her self.
One of the leading stem cell researchers Dr. Steven Goldman, who receives funding from both the Michael Fox foundation as well as the Christopher Reeves foundation, has suggested ASCR shows much more promise. He also notes some of the greatest promise seems to be with progenitor cells. Progenitor cells have already “decided” exactly what type of cell to become. This pushes them even further away from ESC in its development. This would be an advantage when treating a disease where one specific cell type is at risk. For example Parkinson’s patients may only need to replace dopamine-producing neurons, while someone with multiple sclerosis only need myelin producing cells to be restored.

Fox campaigns (= making ads and giving speeches and interviews) for people who want to become a US Senator and who support embryonic stem cell research. Claire McCaskill supports embryonic stem cell research, her opponent Jim Talent does not. So he made an ad in support of Claire McCaskill.
That ballot initiative could have been about anything you want. From gay marriage to death penalties or state funding for embryonic stem cell research. It would only relate to legislation in the state of Missouri.
When Claire McCaskill is elected, she will not be involved with making legislation in Missouri. She will be involved in making Federal legislation.
Stephanopoulos could have asked Michael if he had read Jim Webbs books. That would have been equally relevant to Michaels ad for Claire McCaskill.
