W'e've had "pre-mortems" about how the GOP lost the 2006 midterms, but now we're getting "pre-mortems" on why the Democrats lost - and its one of the funniest things I've ever read (from the Huffington Post):
All week I've been reading in disparate sources from Drudge to US News and World Report about Bush, Rove and Cheney being overly confident about the midterm elections. Even Republican strategists are increasingly concerned because the White House doesn't have a plan if they lose. This lack of planning shouldn't surprise anyone, but if you really think about it a creepy, crawly feeling grows in your gut.
Here are some questions: Are these guys simply narcissistic idiots Rove-ing around in some never-never land bubble or do they know something we don't? Have they planned a grab bag nose punch of an October/November surprise? Or have Diebold, ES&S, and local state secretaries assured them that they will do "whatever it takes" to get a Republican Congress elected again?...
...When I asked Gore Vidal at dinner why the White House seemed so serene and at ease about the vote, he replied that, this time around, the Bush-Cheney henchmen could simply call on martial law. He glumly noted that we are so far down the road toward totalitarianism that, even if Democrats do win back the Congress, it would take at least two generations before the last six years of damage to the nation could be reversed.
I read it a couple times, and it doesn't seem a satire or parody - the website is not in any way, as far as I can tell, linked to Onion, Scrappleface or IMAO. So, this is serious - this is what runs through the mind of a lefty these days.
And I can't stop laughing...November 7th is going to be such fun.

Yeah, you'd think these people thought we lived in a country where protesters were fenced off and kept out of the way of government officials, or where there's no rule of habeas corpus and suspects can just be declared a war criminal and disappeared , or where wiretaps don't need a warrant, or where a president doesn't need a majority of the vote to take office, or where laws passed by the legislature can be modified at will by the head of state with a simple "signing statement".
...
Oh wait...

It's amazing to me Mark, just how far gone the lefty's are at this point. I'm very optimistic about Nov. 7th, but what I don't understand is how the left isn't losing miserably.

It would be funny, if it weren't so stupid; and unbelievably sad.

Gore Vidal...what a sack of shit. I wish sometimes these idiots could really live in a totalitarian country and be subjected to all the pleasures therein.

Dang,
You'd better flee to Cuba before Rove's goons find you...

Poor, poor Dang! Sounds to me like another distraught, unhappy Canadian!

"or where a president doesn't need a majority of the vote to take office,"
Oh, you mean like Clinton, who had 43% and 48% of the vote when he was elected, and would never have been elected in the first place had it not been for a the conservatives splitting their votes between Bush 41 and Perot?
Yeah, I thought so.

"but what I don't understand is how the left isn't losing miserably."
I'm tied between thinking this (because they really have nothing positive to offer), and wondering how the GOP still manages to do well at all, considering just how big a hold the liberals have on the news outlets and Hollywood. Since most people only hear anything through "mainstream" news sources, it also boggles my mind that there are enough out there that can backtrack through the bias to form an alternate opinion.

Unbelievable. Sounds like Keith Olbermann's gonna have a revolution.
