ANNOUNCEMENT: Matt Margolis & Mark Noonan get a book deal!

October 20, 2006
Want a Democratic House?

Then this is what you'll get:

Department of Peace and Nonviolence Act -- H.R. 3760: Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and 74 Democratic cosponsors propose a new "Department of Peace and Nonviolence" as well as "National Peace Day." Cosponsors include three would-be Democratic Chairmen: John Conyers (Judiciary), George Miller (Education and the Workforce), and Charlie Rangel (Ways and Means).

Gas Stamps -- H.R. 3712: Jim McDermott (D-WA) and eight Democratic cosponsors want a "Gas Stamps" program similar to the Food Stamps program to subsidize the gasoline purchases of qualified individuals.

Less Jail Time for Selling Crack Cocaine - H.R. 2456: Charlie Rangel (D-NY) and 23 Democratic cosponsors want to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for possessing, importing, and distributing crack cocaine. John Conyers, the would-be Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over the bill, is a cosponsor.

Voting Rights for Criminals - H.R. 1300: John Conyers (D-MI) and 32 Democratic cosponsors, and H.R. 663: Charlie Rangel (D-NY) and 28 Democratic cosponsors would let convicted felons vote. Rep. John Conyers is the would-be Democratic Chairman of the Judiciary Committee which would consider this legislation.

Expand Medicare to Include Diapers -- H.R. 1052: Barney Frank (D-MA) supports Medicare coverage of adult diapers. Barney Frank is the would-be Chairman of the Financial Services Committee.

Nationalized Health Care - H.R. 4683: John Dingell (D-MI) and 18 Democratic cosponsors want to expand Medicare to cover all Americans. John Dingell is the would-be Democratic Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee who along with cosponsors Charlie Rangel, would-be Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, and Henry Waxman, would-be Chairman of the Government Reform Committee, would have jurisdiction over the proposal.

Federal Regulation of Restaurant Menus -- H.R. 5563: Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and 25 Democratic cosponsors authorize federal regulation of the contents of restaurant menus.

Taxpayer Funded Abortions & Elimination of all Restrictions on Abortion, Including Parental Notice - H.R. 5151: Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and 66 Democratic cosponsors want to overturn even minimal restrictions on abortion such as parental notice requirements. The bill would also require taxpayer funding of abortions through the various federal health care programs. John Conyers, the would-be Chairman of Judiciary Committee which has jurisdiction over the bill, is an original cosponsor.

Bill of Welfare Rights -- H.J. Res. 29-35: Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL) proposes a Soviet-style "Bill of Welfare Rights," enshrining the rights of full employment, public education, national healthcare, public housing, abortion, progressive taxation, and union membership. On some these measures, Rep. Jackson is joined by up to 35 Democratic cosponsors, including would-be Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers.

Have you seen all the ads the Democrats are running announcing these and other kook-left programs? Of course not - Democrats know that if this stuff gets in to the general public, then they'd be lucky to hold anything outside Manhattan and San Francisco. Our job, as Republicans, is to inform as many Americans as possible between now and November 7th just what a Democratic House will mean.

Think of it as doing our Democrats a favor - as they are too lazy to campaign on their own issues, we'll do it for them...'cause we're nice, ya know?

Absolutely love this!!! This is something that would give hope to all the peace-loving people on this planet. Maybe there are some American politicians with human compassion & a few grey cells, after all. Mark, Jeremiah, and all you Christians, this is something Jesus would embrace, don't you agree?

Mark,

Diapers? This election is about DIAPERS???

Funny, I thought it was about the Republican rubber-stamping George Bush's losing war strategy, and how Bush losing the war is going to get us all killed.

Geez, mark that just takes the cake.

Posted by: Jim Oliver [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 03:39 PM

Canadian,

The question to ask yourself is this: Why aren't the Democrats ardently promoting their advocacy of this in their campaign message? If you believe in something, you're supposed to campaign on it, right?

By all means, if you think a Department of Peace would be worthwhile, then run on it...but the Democrats don't, because their programs are not supported by the majority of Americans...and so they hide them...and even when they keep your hopes and dreams under a slimey rock, you're still gulled by them.

As it is, we have a Department of Peace - it is called the United States military. You can have two types of peace with it: the peace of not attacking us, or the peace of the grave.

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 03:55 PM

Jim,

We're winning the war - and we're also going to win the election. I can't wait for November 7th...you guys on the left simply won't know what hit you...you're living in your MSM/Daily Kos Altnerate Universe and you've visions of impeached Presidents dancing in your head. The real world is going to be very harsh...

CO,
Department of Peace and Nonviolence Act ~ I don’t understand why this hasn’t caught fire! After all, I’m sure if we just talk to the Islamists they’d fully understand that Jesus taught us to be non-violent. They respect that. We could share stories, have a cup of hot cocoa, make smores and put away all the weapons of war. We can hold hands across the continent and invite our Canadian brethren and cistern to fly kites and throw happy butterflies at the smiling children.

Wow! You’ve convinced me, I’m sending my kids to Baghdad today to tell them that we won’t study war no more!

Mark,

I can't wait for November 7th

We agree 100% on something...amazing, but true.

See you in November.

Posted by: Jim Oliver [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 04:17 PM

Jim,

But one of us is in for mighty disappointment....you are aware, aren't you, that there are six Democratic House seats the GOP is likely to win? Oh, you're not? You've only heard polls and punditry about a GOP meltdown? Imagine that, not getting the whole story....

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 04:26 PM

We could share stories, have a cup of hot cocoa, make smores and put away all the weapons of war.

Bane, don't forget singing Kumbaya. No peace-in would be complete without that.

Posted by: Retired Spook [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 04:39 PM

And throwing someone else's medals over a fence in yet another symbolic gesture. Just like the Department of Peace and Nonviolence Act; symbolism over substance. Our enemies respect that!

Posted by: Bane of Liberals' Existence [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 04:44 PM

See you in November.

Hey, Jim Olive Oyl, does this mean you're going away until then? I'm heartbroken. No, really, I come here just to read stupidity, and now you're leaving until after the election?

If you're really, really leaving, Olive Oyl, could you take CO and his two boyfriends--axass and Canuckgay--with you?

As for Kookcinich and Rangel, how brain-dead does one have to be to elect these two idiots? Who votes in their districts, Canadiens?

Baghdad operation backfires on US
October 21, 2006

THE US-led campaign to curb violence in Baghdad suburb by suburb has failed and has actually contributed to a spike in American deaths, a top US military official admitted yesterday.

Major General William Caldwell said US officials were looking for a new strategy after the failure of the two-month campaign, codenamed Operation Forward Together.

The operation "has not met our overall expectations of sustaining a reduction in the levels of violence", Major General Caldwell said.

In Washington, Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Mark Ballesteros called Major General Caldwell's assessment "accurate and candid".

His comments are a rare public admission that an American strategy in Iraq hasn't worked, and it came as Republicans and Democrats in Washington press the Bush administration to devise a new approach.

Operation Forward Together was considered a last-ditch effort to tame Baghdad, where violence between Sunni and Shia Muslims has reached unprecedented levels.

Baghdad police reported that 27 bodies were found around the city yesterday - 11 in suburbs originally targeted in the security plan.

The number of US soldiers and marines killed in Baghdad has skyrocketed, and October is on course to be the third-deadliest month for American service members since Saddam Hussein was toppled in April 2003. US officials announced the deaths of three more soldiers and a marine yesterday, bringing the month's death toll to 74. "The violence is indeed disheartening," Major General Caldwell said despondently.

US officials were reassessing the assumptions they'd made before implementing the Baghdad security plan, he said. There was "no question" that sectarian violence had increased in the suburbs targeted under the plan.

The general didn't say how American officials might adjust their plans. But he said US troops were re-entering the southern Baghdad suburb of Dora, one of the capital's most violent areas. Dora was among the first suburbs swept, and it's now the site of daily discoveries of tortured bodies.

The gloomy assessment came amid tensions between the US and the nearly five-month-old Government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Peace, peace, glorious peace.

You don't have to be a warring nation. You don't have to invade & occupy countries. You don't have to arm and support dictator regimes. You could put aside your 'let's get them before they get us' mentality and stop the killing.

You could even join Bane and the rest of us around the camp fire and Reefer, we would turn a blind eye when you light up. Promise.

Aaron,

Just had this same exact discussion with Tom on the "Insane" thread...the Australian is taking a good report and painting it bad. Here's the real report:

Iraqi Government fighting violence Friday, 20 October 2006

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s governmental leaders are rising to confront "an array of complicated issues" amid a spike in insurgent violence, a senior U.S. military officer said Oct. 19.

"The U.S. and Coalition leadership commends this perseverance, while the Multi-National Force-Iraq continues to assess and revise our strategy and tactics to support this government" in an ever-changing, dynamic environment, Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, the spokesman for Multi-National Force-Iraq, told reporters at a Baghdad news conference.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki recently announced the formation of a special committee to address the country’s illegal militia issue, Caldwell said.

The Iraqi Government, he added, is also seeking to reform its Security Ministries. In fact, the Iraqi Government reassigned a number of leaders of the National Police on Oct. 16.

“Although the leadership at the division level has changed, the National Police continued to prove itself as a capable, and viable civil force," Caldwell said.

Caldwell commended the Iraqi Military and Police efforts in combating the insurgency. The Iraqi Security Force is finding “a good number” of weapons caches throughout Iraq. That’s because Iraqi forces are knowledgeable about their areas of operation, Caldwell said, and are growing in size and professionalism.

Caldwell cited a recent joint Iraqi and U.S. Marine operation in Anbar province resulting in the detention of more than 35 suspected insurgents and the discovery of thousands of hidden weapons.

That operation, he said, collected more than 11,000 pieces of weapons and ordnance between Oct. 7 and Oct. 13, including much material suitable for making Improvised Explosive Devices.

Discovery of weapons caches in Iraq has increased over the past few months, Caldwell said, noting 170 caches were found in July, 190 in August, and 220 in September.

"Already this month, 144 caches have been found," Caldwell said.

And the Iraqi Security Forces is continuing to grow in numbers, as well as in capability, Caldwell said. More than 312,000 Iraqi Soldiers and Police have been trained and equipped by the Coalition Force.

Caldwell pointed to the Iraqi government's recruiting plan to bring more than 30,000 new Iraqi troops to serve in troublesome Anbar province by May. And more than 600 Iraqi Police recruits, the general noted, are slated to graduate this week and begin work in the troubled province.

In February, 3,800 Iraqi Police worked out of 14 active Iraqi Police stations in three of the nine districts in Anbar province, Caldwell said. Today, there are 33 police stations operating in eight districts, he noted, with more than 8,000 trained Iraqi Police.

Caldwell acknowledged there's been an increase in insurgent violence since the start of Ramadan in late September. That's consistent, he said, with similar spikes in enemy activity that have occurred during the month-long Muslim observance in the past two years.

"The violence is indeed disheartening," Caldwell said, noting there's been a 22-percent increase in insurgent attacks in Baghdad during the first few weeks of this year's Ramadan observance. But Operation Together Forward has made a difference, and has helped to reduce the amount of sectarian violence in the specific Baghdad neighborhoods. Still, he acknowledged, it hasn't caused a reduction of the overall level of violence in the city.

Meanwhile, "we are working very closely with the government of Iraq to determine how to best to re-focus our efforts," Caldwell said.

That goal "is achievable," Caldwell emphasized, "with a combination of both tough security measures by coalition and Iraqi Security Forces and a political process that recognizes that 11 to 12 million Iraqis voted for a unity government."

Keep fighting that reality pal.

Aaron,

There's your problem - you'd rather believe a "fake but accurate" MSM than men and women of the United States armed forces who are under threat of court martial if they don't tell the truth...

Just like Tom, you prefer to read gloom and doom because it makes you feel good about your defeatism...

Why is Aaron chiding you and your "one news source," when his news is one source, regurgitated by all DBM outlets?

These defeatocrats are bad for our nation--we should put up the fence, let the illegals stay, and deport the Aaron's...

Canadian....do you believe there are evil regimes and evil people out there that wish to do the USA and other countries great injury?

I'm just curious.

All of these ideas sure sound like MORE gov't to me.

Great post Mark...this would make a great movie. I might have to create a video movie of this over the weekend.

Cheney and King are dead on right according to my friends and relatives fighting in Iraq.

Of course, they are actually THERE and you're behind a computer saying it isn't so. Who to believe...who to believe.

Yeah, I'm going to believe my friends and relatives in the services. Sorry Aaron, no soup for you.

So, when is all this good news going to translate into results? Even Gen. Caldwell admitted to being disheartened.

Where's Baghdad Bob when you need him?

Posted by: Ricorun [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 08:15 PM

Aw gee, fellow left wing liberal Canucks, I read that Democratic manifesto in another blog and now I see it again. I cringe in embarrassment over its goody two shoes approach. Really, a Department of Peace? Get real. Sounds like our NDP party.

However, I remain steadfast that the Knucklehead Bush Republicans still are living in La La Land reagrding Iraq. They are so blind and moronic on this subject. Yeah, things are going so good there and the evil knucklehead axis of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are to blame.

You know, my fellow Canucks, both the Democrats and Republicans are out to lunch and no matter who wins the elections, the USA will continue to be in a big mess. So bad, so sad but true.

Wowwwwww Rico, A General being disheartened during a time of war! This is unheard of. I guess I was disheartened every time I heard of a death in the 101st since my brother was there. Didn't mean I wanted to cut-n-run! Actually, I'm disheartened every time I hear of our soldiers being killed(wow what a concept) I still will not cut-n-run! Omygosh, I'm even disheartened when I hear of all the poor Iraqi civilians that are dying daily(wow, a republican with feelings, lol), but you see it just hardens my stance against the true perps(terrorist) it doesn't cause me to turn on my country and it's leaders over partisan politics and to much pot smoking(that ones for CO)!

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 08:41 PM

AAAAAAH Yes, canuck has finally shown his true colors! Now that everyone knows just how anti-American he is, we can ignore him. He's just a foriegn troll getting his rocks off needling his neighbors(yah, the ones that protect his sorry butt)!

Bane: "A General being disheartened during a time of war!"

I don't know how familiar with Gen. Caldwell's comments, but "disheartened" is not an emotion he usually conveys. In fact, it happens oh... never. Given that yes, I do find it significant.

Be that as it may, the real question is: when is all this good news going to translate into results? Thousands of pieces of ordinance confiscated in hundreds of caches. Over 300,000 Iraqi security forces trained and equipped. And yet there is no down-tick in the level of violence. In fact, according to Caldwell, the violence is ticking up -- in the very area (Baghdad) where a concerted effort (Operation Together Forward) has been applied in the last couple of months to prevent precisely that. In light of all that, I think "disheartened" is something of an understatement.

Posted by: Ricorun [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 09:44 PM

That first sentence should read, "I don't know how familiar YOU ARE with Gen. Caldwell's comments..."

Bearman:
--You are absolutely wrong in saying I am anti American. If anything, I am pro-American. I want the USA to get back on track. I want the USA to continue to be the greatest power on this planet.
--I am anti Bush Republican because they have royally screwed up almost everything they touched. Note that I said "almost". I want to be fair, after all.

I don't think so, dickdee. The failure of American foreign policy has made not only Canada, but the world, less safe. So, when you opine that you are protecting our worthless behinds, I'll have to disagree. You can't ensure world peace by having the biggest arsenal as you can plainly see if you look around.

Posted by: Canadian Observer [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 10:04 PM

Funny how you mention axis in your post, Canuckgay. I wonder if CO also mentions axis in his posts. You kooks make quite the threesome. Which one of you sleeps in the middle?

Posted by: 1H8L1BS [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 20, 2006 11:39 PM

Some good suggestions... My comments on these:

1 Department of Peace and Nonviolence Act.
Well, Jesus himself said to Beat Swords into Plows. If Jesus is for peace then so am I!!!

2. Gas Stamps
This would assist the poor in getting to work. Often poor people cannot work because the good jobs are so far away... Having one less thing to worry about would mean a lot to people trying to get back on their feet.

Jesus would be for this I believe.

3. The next two I tend to agree with Blogs for Bush to one degree or the other

4. Expand Medicare to Include Diapers
I believe what is ment here is that Medicare should cover more medical proceedures. Maybe expanding medicare to include full dental care for both children and disabled, Eye care... How often do the poor not get their vision checked due to the cost of an eye exam. Diapers as in the Gas Stamp would be one less thing a family would have to worry about, especially if they are trying to get back on their feet again. I do believe Jesus would also be for this one.

5.Nationalized Health Care.
Oh we can't have this. The Big Wig Drug makers would be out their 500% profits.

In reality, the United States is the only MAJOR nation that does not care for its citizens. I believe if we remove politics from the picture that a national health care system would work. Maybe those Big Wig Drug makers would be forced to use their 1000% profits to fund such a program.

6. Food menus are for the Food Industry not Congress

7. Taxpayer Funded Abortions & Elimination of all Restrictions on Abortion, Including Parental Notice -
Well, Jesus does not mention Abortions in the bible, and in his talks with me, he wants all Christians to be in the streets getting as many as possiable saved. And in that talk, he indicated that protesting Abortions was taking away from getting people saved and that time is short and he is coming soon. Therefore I am for this.

8. Bill of Welfare Rights

People being able to work, if they are qualified, for a job is I think very important and they should be hired on the spot. How often have you been applying for a Job only to have it go to the President's (Of the company) 16th Cousin???

Some very good ideals here.

"Some very good ideals here."

Magnum Serpentine

Ideals? This is a typical liberal response. But who will pay for this and how?? That's the question.

I suggest that each one of us email Mark's list to everyone on our mailing lists...yes everyone...even you leftist trolls (afterall they are such good ideals).

Since the lamestram media and the dem leadership isn't informing the public we should. The voters should know what the election is really about...expansion of the socialist nanny state or expansion of economic opportunity and democracy.
