I'll put my predictions right here.
Senate: Dems will pick up PA, MT, RI, and OH. That leaves Dems with close opportunities in TN, VA, and MO. I figure they will win at least 1 of those 3 (probably TN). That would make a net Dem gain of 5 Senate seats, leaving the Senate 50-50, with Republicans retaining control by the vice of Vice Cheney's tie-breakers. Repubs will certainly interpret this as some sort of sweeping mandate to continue as rubberstamp enablers of Bush's radically dumb agenda.
House - number of competitive races is mind-boggling. I'll be conservative and predict Dems will gain a net 24 seats - enough to take back the House.
Anybody care to post a counter-prediction?
Posted by: Aarontime at October 17, 2006 04:48 PM
Senate: Democrats will pick up 4 seats. PA, MT, RI, and OH. I don't think they can win Tennessee or any other close race. That gives the Republicans a 51-49 advantage.
In the House I think the Democrats will pick up 20 seats giving them the majority.
Posted by: John at October 17, 2006 05:40 PM
I sure hope the Dems don't win. They will oppose everything that's tried except to try to put more taxes on us. If they become the leader in the Senate they will only hurt this nation, not help it. All they have done in the previous 2 yrs is to down President Bush. They have no plans, the only thing that will happen is that the terrorist will then attach us inside again!!

No counter prediction from me, but let me clarify a comment I made earlier.
The comment I made sounded defeatist, CYA, etc. It wasn't meant to be. If the GOP loses one or both houses this election, I will be unhappy, and not too confident in the future of this country. Why, you ask? Because the DemocRATs haven't offered any ideas, other than bumper sticker slogans--change of course, a new direction, etc. These aren't ideas, and anybody who votes for this rhetoric is obviously a moron. But, then again, we've known this all along, at least for the past six years.
I've changed my mind; here's my counter prediction: we lose two Senate seats, and pick up seats in the House. And Piglosi, Reid-tard, et.al., bitch and moan that "we didn't get our message out," or "the voting machines were hacked."
That's my prediction, and I'm sticking to it...

AT, I don't disagree with your Senate prediction, as far as it goes. I do find it interesting that you predict that 5 incumbent GOP senators will lose and not a single Democrat senator will lose, but I haven't followed individual races around the country close enough to have a feel for what Dem senators might be vulnerable. Senator Richard Lugar from my home state of Indiana is running unopposed. I can't recall ever hearing of a US Senator running unopposed before.
I can't say that I'm going to be terribly surprised by any result. This is such a strange election cycle. If the Dems do win back control of either or both houses, they will have essentially done so without articulating any positive ideas, something I also don't believe I've ever seen before, and I've voted in every single general election and all but one primary since 1966. I'm not hearing disgruntled Republicans threatening to stay home and teach the GOP a lesson, at least not to the extent that I did back in the middle of the summer. I suspect a Speaker Pelosi being 2 heartbeats away from the Presidency has had a sobering effect on quite a few wayward Repubs. At least we only have to wait 21 more days. I wish the calendar had a fast forward button.

" do find it interesting that you predict that 5 incumbent GOP senators will lose and not a single Democrat senator will lose"
There really aren't any Senate Dem seats that appear in danger. The possible exceptions are NJ and MD. NJ has a long tradition of flirting with Republican candidates, only to turn strongly for the Democrat on election day. And in MD, the Dem incumbent seems to be opening a significant lead.
All in all, I think a net Dem gain of 5 is as good a prediction as there is. Anything less than 4 net Dem pickups in the Senate should be greeted by Republicans with a huge sigh of relief. 6 or more dem pickups, and Bush will finally have to do something he's never done: change his mind.

I haven't followed each state's elections very closely. I suspect here in California that all the current state offices will go Republican becasue the Dems campaigns have all crashed and burned except the Lt. Govenor race. That one will be close, but I figure Mc Clintock will pull it off. (At least I hope he does!)

I don't think the Dems will gain control of either the House or Senate. All of their "hate Bush" rhetoric while offering absolutely no new ideas will back-fire on them.
Hopefully, Republicans will have their eyes opened from the worry, but with as many RINOs as we have, that is doubtful.

Prediction: The united States of America shows the MSM & it's counterparts once again that they do not run this country with polls and negativity!
Wether close or sweeping the liberal agenda will once again bite the dust.
Fact: The United States of America will have a SWEEPING revival across the nation & in it's schools. Then we will become a praying nation & our lifestyles will convince liberals to join us or they will choose to leave(not that it'll do them any good), righteousness, peace & Joy will follow as we reach the nations with the "Message of the Kingdom of God".

My current prediction - GOP loses a few Senate and House seats but retains control. The economy is too strong, no real scandals to explain a Dem wave.
Dream scenario - election night and all the pundits are ready with their Dem wave talking points. Then Chafee wins in RI and they chalk it up to incumbency. Then Kean wins in NJ and they chalk it up to NJ politics. Then Steele wins in MD and they begin to say uh oh and don't know what to say.

In all of the predictions, there is one race that I do not see being mentioned. It may mean very little, but Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska has a fight on his hands. Given that he is a Democrat, (if more of a centrist) in a strongly Republican state, and is opposed by a very wealthy Republican, we could pick up that seat. Any thoughts?
Posted by: kjstrouble at October 18, 2006 12:34 AM
To the Predict 06 team, you might want to include more races. See my comments above about Nebraska's Senate race. I realize that there have not been many rank and file Republicans in for this race, but it really is a race. Pete Ricketts has been able to bring up some real issues, and is a strong Republican.

Right now my guess is Republicans will lose 4-5 seats in the Senate and 11-12 seats in the House. There's still four weeks until election in which a lot can happen.
Mark,
All of the polls I've seen on Nebraska show Sen. Nelson up by about 20 points. Here's one from Rasmussen:
http://rasmussenreports.com/2006/State%20Polls/September%202006/NebraskaGovernorSenate.htm
The other Sen. Nelson (Florida) would probably lose to any Republican nominee other than Katherine Harris. Looks like he sure lucked out.

Lots of stuff has happened in this election season to turn people off conservatives and show the level of corruption and filth that pollutes the party.
Traditional christians are turned off and disgusted over the Foley scandal and how Hastert and other Republicans covered it up for pure political purposes. This will without question cause many of the evangelicals to stay home in November. They wont be voting democratic, but just won't be voting as many are disillusioned and have seen that even a conservative in the white house and a conservative majority in both houses of congress have not given them the wedge issues so what is the point in voting?
My prediction is that democrats will gain the majority in the house by a good margin. The Senate will be close, with the democrats picking up 3-5 seats depending on how much more republican bad news we hear until November. Iraq is going very badly and the death rate is at an all time high, US soldiers are getting killed in record numbers, Bush's policies have all be utter failures, North Korea is far more of a threat than they were before Bush took office, same as Iran.
Even if the democrats just win the house, its a big step allowing full investigations into everything that has happened these past 6 years. Wether or not Bush is impeached, he will be at the least disgraced and will be shown to be the worst president in American history. The last 2 years of Bush presidency will be a roller coaster ride and they will be spending all their time putting out fires and plugging holes.

George Allen hired more African Americans while governor of Virginia then the following two democrats did... But there in is the crutch you tool... Democrats talk the talk; Republicans walk the walk.
Out of curiosity; what office did the highest ranking African-American have in the Clinton Administration? Which Cabinet, Bush's or Clinton's more diverse? Man... you lose that argument too...

I'll predict even farther.
Dems take 22 seats to take majority in the House.
Republicans keep majority in Senate at 52 seats.
In 2008, after Pelosi, Conyers and Rangel totally overplay their hand, the GOP not only wins the presidency again (preventing a Dem from receiving 50% of the vote for the 32nd straight year, but they take both houses in overwhelming fashion.
The RINOS in Congress finally figure out that it cannot carry the day and conservatism is returned in spades. The left screams now about conservatives, wait until there is actually a conservative in the W.H. and in Congress.
