ANNOUNCEMENT: Matt Margolis & Mark Noonan get a book deal!

Open Thread: Small Aircraft Crashes into Manhattan High-rise

The Associated Press reports that "a small plane crashed into a high-rise on the Upper East Side." It is not yet known if it is a small plane or a helicopter, but terrorism is not suspected in this incident.. Feel free to discuss the story and its developments here.

UPDATE: Yankees pitcher Corey Lidle killed in crash...

The world we are living in now is filled with fear and suspicions.

Upon hearing this news, I called my husband at his office and told him to leave the city as soon as possible!

Whether or not this plane crash was an accident, or on purpose, the fact is that the terrorists have already taken control of our emotions!

We live in fear.

Mark.... I sure hope I'm wrong... but I predict the MSM/dem complex will try to spin this into somehow being Bush's fault.

Yes... I've become that cynical about them. I just hope for once a news story can just be a news story.

As it stands, we don't know if the crash was an accident or not. Let's hope it was some kind of crazy accident.

Now allow my cynical side to come out. If it is found out that this was another terrorist attack, who do you think should get the blame for allowing yet another plane to crash into a building? Bill Clinton who hasn't been in office for how many years? The democrats who, at least until Nov 7th are in the minority in congress? The moonbat MSM? George Sorros? For those brave enough to say Bush and co, you would be right. You can't have it both ways guys. You can't give him all of the credit when everything is going great (i.e. no terrorist attacks on U.S. soil) and then try to pass the buck to everybody else when things go to hell.

The whole point that you guys along with Bush make for the BS over in Iraq is "We're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here." You people use that tired line to excuse everything that he has done. So yes, you're damn right! If this was another terrorist attack, allow me to be the first one to say IT WAS BUSH'S FAULT!!!!

Perhaps it was just some stupid daredevil bobbing and weaving his plane through the high rises and he bobbed instead of weaved at one point.

It's equivalent to playing chicken with car traffic.

Posted by: Canuckguy [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 11, 2006 05:15 PM

That didn't take long.

Funny.... if it had been a terrorist... I would have blamed THE TERRORIST!

in the end... it was an accident.

Posted by: johnnn [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 11, 2006 05:17 PM

It wasn't the terrorists... it was the Yankees.

Posted by: Tom Shipley [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 11, 2006 05:45 PM

Word is now that the plane was piloted by Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle. If so, this sounds like a terrible accident - not terrorism. Unless someone tampered with the plane.

My sympathies go out to Mr. Lidle's family, because the word is he was flying the plane and perished.

Shipley, is that supposed to be funny?

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 11, 2006 07:05 PM

Sadly, this is not the first time this happened to a member of the Yankees. They lost their star catcher Thurman Munson in a small plane crash in 1979.

Wow... I loved Ethans comment. If this had been a terrorist, who is to blame? BRAVE people blame Bush?? Think about what you just said! You are talking about a hypotheticle situation, about a TERRORIST ACT and you are blaming Bush. Do you know how dumb that sounds? And BRAVE people blame him? That doesnt sound like they are being brave. That sounds like a lie. Liars blame Bush.
We all know that these terrorist organizations that formed over 20 years ago, did so because of bush's foreign policy, then they forgave us during the clinton years because he is so perfect, then they hated us again after clinton. Ohh and during the clinton years those attacks they either carried out or were planning (9-11) were only because they knew Bush was coming. And also I saw a UFO yesterday with Elvis on it singing with john lennon and mao zi dong. They were happy togeather, singing, smoking pot and talking about how much they hate Bush.

Are we really going to turn this into something other than what it is?

It's kind of sad that there's an accident AND immediately it's turned into a debate about Politics. TURN IT OFF for at least a few minutes until we know the facts... and this should be true with EVERYTHING.

Ethan, It's people like you that give us liberals a bad name. The same thing can be said of the most ignorant of the righties, but it would be nice to be above them, not below them.

Ethan, why do you take this tragic situation that has nothing to do with politics and try to turn it into just one by showing your hatred for the President? If it were a terrorist attack you’d want to blame Bush? Why is that? Do you think it’s only his responsibility to stop all terrorist acts that happen to American interest? You make implications that since Clinton hasn’t been in office and the Democrats are the minority party in both houses they have no responsibility in any way what so ever to terrorist acts. You fail to point out in a rather blatant fashion the constant negativity by the left against the president AND the American people that emboldens the terrorists. Why is that?

The fact that it’s not a terrorist attack allows us to breath a little easier. But this certainly grabs your attention. Too many have quickly forgotten or tried to sweep the attack of the world trade center out of their minds. Terrorist are working hard to do whatever they can to destroy you and everything you stand for. The only way they can win is if we accept an attitude of appeasement. When dealing with evil you only have 2 choices. Fight it or accept it by doing nothing or thinking you’re negotiating with them while they laugh at you behind your backs. You should be thankful there are brave and courageous people willing to do the necessary while you sleep in the comfort of your home and attend to your daily needs.

Wow... we are taking a tragedy and spinning politics out of it?

For shame!
