ANNOUNCEMENT: Matt Margolis & Mark Noonan get a book deal!

September 30, 2006
What Media Bias? Part 69

You know, I'll bet any amount of money that Goebbles routinely called FDR a liar during World War Two...and I'll bet double that amount we never saw a headline like this during World War Two:

Al-Zawahri: Bush a liar in war on terror

What possible purpose does this headline, or this story, serve? News flash: the enemy disputes our claims in the war. In other news, water is wet and the sky is blue.

Perhaps it is some sort of, "see, its not just us: the enemy says 'Bush lied, people died', too"? I don't know - and, frankly, I really don't care all that much...but I will once again warn against taking anything seen in the MSM at face value. If they did have a newsflash about water being wet, I'm immediately going to run my hand under the faucet just to be sure.

At least Tokyo Rose was spoke somewhat plausibly. Al-Z can take a long walk off a short pier!

Just so you know, Mark, water is still wet here! Dunno about the fluoride content though.

At least Tokyo Rose spoke somewhat plausibly.

Sorry about the typo. Too much fluoride in my water probably. :-)

Posted by: Bob Arctor [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 02:25 AM

Bob,

Actually, your problem stems from President Bush deliberately putting more arsenic in your water so that Haliburtan can make money...

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 02:41 AM

Hahaha Mark, you just woke me up! Thanks for that!

Posted by: Bob Arctor [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 02:43 AM

You dont care that much that your president lies and that people die because of it? Not really surprising, conservatives in your eyes get a pass on lying, killing and immoral conduct, but if a democrat should do any of that ...

And you consider yourself a patriot? Seems a little at odds with one another.

Posted by: axis [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 03:14 AM

I consider myself a Christian and member of the human race, so pardon me, but I'm a little offended here. I guess I'm wondering why you are saying things like "the enemy says 'Bush lied, people died', too"? I don't know - and, frankly, I really don't care all that much..." I find this really disturbing. (1) You SHOULD care if people die, and I find it strange that there isn't more focus on real issues of a conservative (not morally ill) nature. And(2)Where has it been said that our own countrymen are "the enemy". WOW... I didn't realize that there are so many idiots out there posing as conservatives. Remind me to change my vote.

Posted by: Bob Howard at September 30, 2006 03:44 AM

axis,

I really feel sorry for you - that you have forced yourself to live in such a cold, narrow world built on hatred of one man.

Posted by: Mark Noonan [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 04:06 AM

Bob,

I am please that you are my fellow Christian, but your reading skills are a bit off - as is your level of charity.

Mark: Such a significant number this milestone is for liberals. Why, to them it is...divine!

Posted by: Macker [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 05:16 AM

Strange to see you talking of hatred Mark, when nearly every thing you post is hatred of democrats, hatred of liberals and pretty much anyone that sees the world differently than you.

As I have said before, I don't hate Bush, I hate what he stands for (corruption, immorality, death, destruction for profit)as well as hating everything that he has caused America to become.

America is now considered a rogue state by many, it is now a torture state as well as a state which can imprison people without charge for the rest of their lives and deny them any opportunity to prove their innocence.

How proud you must be Mark of all Bush's accomplishments

Posted by: axis [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 05:26 AM

Allright. Bob. TEll me what "REal conservative issues" are? I rather suspect they will not be all that conservative coming for you, or that you wioll weasel around trying not to put yourself on record and answer.

Posted by: CJ [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 07:21 AM

oh boy, yet another in a series of wildly stupid WWII analogies.

Of course, the difference between Zawahiri calling Bush a liar, and Goebbels calling FDR a liar is that... Bush actually is a liar. So I guess you are right, Noonan - this shouldn't be news.

You know, Republicans attacked FDR on his war policies during WWII, but Democrats didn't launch a campaign to smear Repubs as traitorous "Nazis".

And during the Korean War, Republicans were especially scornful of Truman, questioning the very need to be fighting in Korea and calling it a waste of our soldiers' blood! North Korean propaganda broadcasts made similar statements (but for different reasons, of course). But Democrats didn't call the Repubs traitorous "communists".

Republicans likewise howled at Clinton during the war in Kosovo. While our troops were at combat in the field, Republicans at home were saying their Commander-in-Chief sent them there just to distract attention from the important Monica scandal. Was there a concerted smear campaign from Democrats to label the Republicans "Milosevic sympathizers"? No.

But now we have the tables turned, with Democrats speaking out against a president who took this nation into war on pretexts that later proved to false, and with abysmal to non-existent post-war planning. And what is the response of Republicans? To find a way to recover from this colassal blunder in the least damaging way possible? No. Instead, they launch a campaign to smear Democrats as "terrorists" and al-qaeda allies merely for fulfilling their duty to criticize, question, and provide oversight - just as numerous Republicans have done in the nation's prior (and far far less questionable) wars.

Aaron
You moonbats still haven't gotten over BJ Clinton pleading guilty to perjury? A convicted LIAR whom you liberal loons still defend!

Let's see...you call President Bush a liar, Al-Zawahri calls President Bush a liar. Al-Zawahri is a islamofacist terrorrist and you are a...?

As for the substance of your argument...theres more substance on Monica's dress than in your lies. Peddle your rants over at wankette, DumbassUnderground, or KOZbots.

Posted by: Nebraska Militia [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 10:18 AM

You guys kill me!!

Sure, Clinton lied about an extra-marital affair, and we're ALL disgusted by it.. GET OVER IT ALREADY...the only ones who still care are, umm...REPUBLICANS...I still think it's a jealousy issue....

Meanwhile, you have Bush running around lying about secret prisons, secret wiretaps, whether or not we torture, WMD's, etc.. and you still think CLINTON is a bad person?! When you compare lies, Clinton comes out smelling like a rose! Clinton isn't the one trying to perpetuate a war in Iraq that was misguided from the start!

EVERY SINGLE ONE of Bush's LIES was far worse than the Monica lie, yet the GOP doesn't seem to care! WHERE IS YOUR MORAL OUTRAGE?! Oh yeah, it's on a blue dress, and you don't CARE if your party's president lies and lies and lies!! The assault on humanity's freedoms, the assault on two other countries (one of which was justified, but we're not really in Afghanistan anymore, guess the terrorists are gone!), the federal governments response to Katrina,"We're ready!"

At what point is it even POSSIBLE for you to get upset at Bush's actions? CAN YOU? Or do you shrug in disconcern, tune into Faux News, and have your views 'unspun' by the likes of O'Reilly?

Think for yourselves, this country is in a BAD BAD place, and no one but Bush and his supporters are to blame!

You want to fight the terrorists? SO DO I! Let's go BACK to Afhghanistan where the ones who blew up the WTC are!!

Posted by: fred evil at September 30, 2006 11:20 AM

Hey Nebraska Militia - how's the Foley story playing out in your neck of the woods? Are Nebraskans appauled or are they just "rubber stamping" this dispicable act as a misunderstanding? Will you all begin your gay bashing on Foley? Will you all be concerned that the House leadership covered up this story for a year, allowing for other pages to be subjected to this preditor?

I find it interesting that this Blog has completely ignored this story. Maybe they are hoping it just goes away. Since the right is so concerned about "family values" shouldn't they be on top of this story and ensuring no other child is in danger of being molested by a congressman who was on the committee to help exploited children.

My prediction will be Hastert and Boehner will pay deeply for thier cover-up of this story. It needs to happen. This Republican party is so drunk with power and incidents like this prove they just can't help themselves.

Posted by: Jesus was a leftie [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 11:22 AM

Aarontime kicked your asses!! lol!!! All you wingnuts can do is launch personal attacks against him with no substance instead of arguing the facts he points out.
Priceless......

Posted by: Lomstradamus at September 30, 2006 11:29 AM

I've been blogging here for almost 2 years now, and must say that I haven't seen an original left-wing thought expressed here for at least the past 12 months. It's all "Bush Lied," "you SHOULD care if people die," all the time. Lefty comments have become incredibly predictable, tiresome, and frankly, useless.

Meanwhile, I've seen hundreds of thoughtful posts here by conservatives completely rebutting the "Bush lied" lie, and persuasively arguing that the desire to save lives and freedoms is in fact EXACTLY the reason the West is finally fighting the war against Islamo-fascist terrorism. But in that time, have I seen even ONE logical liberal post rebutting the conservatives' logical arguments? Nope! It's just more "Bush lied", "you SHOULD care if people die" nonsense. This is why conservatives don't even bother rebutting liberal posters here any more. Liberal posts have become a repititious joke, rebutting them a waste of time.

What's interesting is that this lack of substance in lefty posters here on this blog EXACTLY mirrors that of the current Democratic Party. This disease of "vacuism" apparently now infects the entire left wing, from top to bottom, leaving it dead and rotting. The trick will be if Democrats somehow fool voters into putting the Corpse of the Left back into power this November. I don't think they will; just like conservative readers of this blog, American voters are sick of the utter vacuity of the Left.

Posted by: JPL [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 11:30 AM

Perfect timing, "Jesus was a leftie"! You just proved my point -- Dems have no substance whatsoever. Nebraska makes the perfectly valid point that Democrat and Islamo-fascist rhetoric have become completely indistinguishable from each other, and you do what? Rebut his point? Try to justify the Dems' rhetoric? No! You simply drag out the Dems' tired old Official 2006 Campaign Slogans -- "Republicans Hate Gays!", "Rubber Stamp!" and "Drunk With Power!" Yay! Go Team Leftie! That'll persuade us conservatives of the correctness of the Lefts' arguments! [Not.]

Posted by: JPL [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 11:49 AM

JPL,

"Lefty comments have become incredibly predictable, tiresome, and frankly, useless" - glad to know we're still in a place where people are open-minded, and examine claims on their face instead of on the aministrations 'determinations'

"I've seen hundreds of thoughtful posts here by conservatives completely rebutting the "Bush lied" lie" - So far all Ive seen is jokes about a dress, and his wife...no rebutting...of course I just discovered this sinhole of confusion and stupidity, and am hopefully going to being able to shed a little light in this darkened closet of ignorance....if anyone will listen...not a GOP strong point you know...and how have you rebutted the lies on torture, or secret prisons, or wiretaps, or the WMDs? explain it to me, I dare you...

"rebutting them a waste of time" - especially if your assertions are more lies, or just nasty comments about Clinton, who really has NO involvement in Bush's lies...

"American voters are sick of the utter vacuity of the Left" - On this I do agree, the Dems aren't presenting a much better option than Bush, except they'll actually try to do the right thing, and will listen to constructive crtiticism, and will reflectively examine their own actions, and admit mistakes, and make PROGRESS in the "War on Terror", instead of perpetuating an immoral war in Iraq!!

Posted by: fred evil at September 30, 2006 11:51 AM

JPL, Al-Z can't even get original with his own talking points.

Mark, It's Ironic and pathetic that day by day the enemy picks up on more and more of the lefty's talking points! Pathetic fools!

Aarontime, Bob H., Axis, Let's give you the benefit of the doubt. So maybe you haven't traveled to Iraq or Afghanistan and had a sit down meeting with OBL & his boyz. It would seem at some point the blinder of hate Bush & conservatives would fall away, and you would be ashamed at the parallels you have drawn between your party and the true enemy.

You guys don't like being called traitor, or the enemy? Well take a look in the mirror then! You don't have to agree with everything the pres. does(I know I don't) but you do have to get behind him in a time of war & peril! With your actions, you basically proclaim to the world that #1. Al-quaeda is not the enemy America is and that, we can't win!!! AND YOU DON'T EXPECT US TO BE OFFENDED!!!

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 11:51 AM

Oh and don't give me that dissent B.S. you libs have gone way, way, way, beyond that! Few of you even have an ounce of political sanity or savvy left in your bones.

Posted by: bearmanUSMC [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 30, 2006 11:56 AM

JPL,

Do you even read this blog?? You speak of hundreds of thoughtful conservative posts that you've read here. I also have been reading this blog for awhile, and I think I can sum up all the concepts talked about here pretty quickly.

1. Democrats are weak, evil, godless, and stupid.

2. Democrats are terrorists or terrorist sympathizers.

3. Democrats have no plans.

4. Terrorists are bad, ummmkay.

5. We must support GWB.

That's it, that really just about covers it. Beyond these empty, pointless statements there really isn't any substantive discussion here. Case in point, I have repeatedly asked on this blog for any Iraq War supporter to define what victory is. That means measurable outcomes of some kind. I have never received a single answer to that, other than "if you don't know I'm not going to tell you."

How about you, JPL: do you have the answer to that question? If so, please provide it so we can have the meaningful debate you claim to be interested in.

Otherwise, stop talking about how bereft of ideas us Dems are, and stick to name calling like the rest of the Republicans here.

The is the lamest attempt at "logic" yet proffered but you Bushbats, and that's really saying something. By this same mongoloid reasoning, if Mother Theresa says the sky is blue, and the Devil says the sky is blue, then Mother Theresa is... the Devil??

The world is blind. A menace is growing every day. It does not grow on a unified front. It is not organized as a country. It does not have a seat at the UN. Some of its membership worldwide are not participating in open acts of violence, yet the insidious oppressive nature of this force finds its ways in through the front door of openness and inclusion. Openness and Inclusion are doctrines of the West. They are noble and just. But taken to the extreme, these doctrines can bring in division and oppression. Peace at any price, meaning the absence of conflict, is the most costly form of peace. It means submission. The world, primarily the West, is submitting. This is the aim of the adherents to the peaceful force that I am describing. Islam.

To offend somebody in the western Islamic community can bear either violent consequences or western societal submission. The moment speech is abridged, true freedom dies. The moment a woman in Western Civilization hesitates going into public dressed in a certain manner, true freedom dies. The moment law enforcement turns from protecting law abiding citizens, true freedom dies. When the predominating reason for tolerance is precipitated by fear, freedom dies.

Western society has two choices. Vanquish, or be vanquished.

Islam, by its nature, is not a status quo worldview. It is a jealous master. It will not submit by choice. If you doubt, open your eyes and read the Quran and the Hadith. Then read history. You can not come away from this study and find a worldview compatible with Western Civilization. This study coupled with today's headlines is a loud message from over a billion Muslims. It is visible everywhere, even in the UN. To miss this, one must willfully choose to disbelieve glaring evidence.

Understand, these encroachments on liberty will continue, and like a snowball at the top of a mountain, the onslaught will grow in size and speed. Ask yourself, why do I want to accept and appease Islamists? Is it because of your openness, your respect for multiculturalism? Or are you now starting to fear deep down inside. The hurried frenzy to negotiate and appease a fascist dictator in Iran is a great example of this problem. Iran will become a nuclear power if the world just keeps on negotiating.

How does it make you feel? Ahmadinejad, Iran's President, has stated numerous times that the Holocaust did not happen. He has also on numerous occasions called for the Muslim world to envisage a world without Israel. He is very direct in his statements. Ahmadinejad is not alone. There is a hunger in the Muslim world to see the destruction of Israel. It is not just Arabs. It is Muslims worldwide that desire the eventual removal of Israel from the map.

If you choose to willfully ignore the facts and believe that the threat can be negotiated with and contained, you are mistaken. Again, I ask you to conduct your own study. Read the Quran and the Hadith. Then read history. You can not come away from this study and find a worldview compatible Western Civilization. This study coupled with today's headlines is a loud message. It is visible everywhere, even in the UN. To miss this, one must willfully choose to disbelieve glaring evidence.

Since this blog obviously won't bring this up as a topic, I think I will. Interesting article from the WaPo on how Tenet and others repeatadly tried to warn Bush, Rumsfeld and Rice about an "impending" attack on the US by Bin Laden prior to 9/11. Also, a emergency meeting between Tenet, Rice and another CIA on 7/10/01 where Tenet tried in vain to convince Rice of the very real threat and was blown off. This is truly disgusting, especially when you consider how much people like you have made Bush into some kind of hero over 9/11. Now we begin to understand the real truth. He and his administration had plenty of warning, they just had other, more importanat things on their minds. You may feel free to bash me now but at some point you guys must face the real possibility that this crew is indeed as bad and incompetant as many on the left have been saying. I know you'll never admit it, but you must wonder at some point...

What lies did Bush tell? He used the same crappy intelligence as the Democrats who talked up and voted for the war in Iraq.

You call Bush stupid and maniacal at the same time - well make up your minds. If he's so stupid why did the vast majority of Democrats in Congress vote for the war? And if your plan is really to pull out, why have the vast majority of Democrats in Congress voted AGAINST that twice?

Who's lying here? Is the plan to pull out or not? Does doing Iraq smarter mean doubling the troops and going hose-to-house in the trouble spots like the Marines did in Fallujah? If so, then I'll vote Democrat myself.

You are a typical head in your a.. anti-American liberal Aaron. Thank you for proving that with your post. Now let a real, proven MAN set you straight in a couple of areas!

#1. We are still in Afghanistan! Idiot! I know men that are still chasing down Al-quaeda & the Taliban. Not to mention, there IS a coalition in Afghanistan! Now listen to me carefully jello head! OBL is not the only Al-Quaeda out there, as a matter of fact, statistically speaking, we are in the right theater as Al-quaeda has gathered in Iraq to take on GOOD! If you can disprove this, I'm all ears! #2 The only military brass being rejected are the ones NOT on the ground in Iraq. Boo-effin-Hoo! You better come with something better than that or else get used to losing elections! #3. The only possible way for us to lose this WAR is if you jelloheads succeed in convincing the world that America is the enemy and if the Americans cave to popularity! In that case, your in for a world of hurt! And we MEN probably won't be around to save your liberal a..!

Tenet had been losing sleep over the recent intelligence. There was no conclusive, smoking-gun intelligence, but there was such a huge volume of data that an intelligence officer's instinct strongly suggested that something was coming.

He did not know when, where or how, but Tenet felt there was too much noise in the intelligence systems. Two weeks earlier, he had told Richard A. Clarke, the National Security Council's counterterrorism director: "It's my sixth sense, but I feel it coming. This is going to be the big one

Interesting article Threemoreyears(LOL)! Considering the source your lucky I even went there. But, you know, I'm convinced now. You guys are absolutely right. We should have invaded Afghanistan and then went to Iraq BEFORE 9/11 happened. You know Tenets 6th sense is good enough for me. Eveb though he didn't know when, where, or how, we definitely should have pre-empted anything that was a possibility, especially since we now know that we would have to fight the libs in this country more than OBL & Al-Quaeda due to our lack of intelligence on this issue. But hey, we were asleep at the wheel for almost a decade, what the hell! I guess we needed 9/11 to wake us up(sarcasm off)! You people are unreal! Quit pointing the damn finger and get behind the people that are willing to defend this country no matter what the cost!

bearman,

Gotta love these lefties...had we taken pre-emptive action before 9/11, then all we'd be hearing today is how GW deliberately massacred bin Laden and the rest of his social workers for no reason at all...

No doubt Mark, Their insecurities & instabilities become more & more apparent by the day. Thanks God, they burn their own bridges as we watch in amazement.

We say, "Praise the Lord & pass the ammunitions, & we'll all stay free". (I love that old song)! They say, "There is no place to run, no place to hide, we are all doomed......... unless we are in charge". What a bunch of jokers!

Interesting. Bush and Rice didn't act because they were afraid of the libs.

"JPL, Do you even read this blog??"

Yup, faithfully every day for the past 2+ years.

"Beyond these empty, pointless statements there really isn't any substantive discussion here."

Granted, there's name-calling and snarkiness from all sides here, and not every conservative comment is the Gettysburg Address. But at least a couple times a day I read a really thoughtful, serious comment or insight from a conservative poster, or from our humble blogmeister himself, Mark Noonan, and the leftist response is always some reflexive, sarcastic joke that adds nothing to the debate. It wasn't always this bad. A year or 2 ago, I remember seeing fairly thought-provoking arguments here from the left, supported by non-distorted facts and links to sources. Those comments may not have won converts, but they almost always received serious responses from conservative posters. But today? Jeez, today the typical liberal comment is "You dont care that much that your president lies and that people die because of it," which is an idiotic comment that gets mocked or ignored by conservatives, because that's precisely what it deserves.

"I have repeatedly asked...for any Iraq War supporter to define what victory is. That means measurable outcomes of some kind. I have never received a single answer to that, other than 'if you don't know I'm not going to tell you.'"

I don't get why no one has answered that question for you before. It's not all that difficult a question to answer. Victory in Iraq will be achieved when that country has gone through several multi-party national elections without a military coup or other violent seizure of power; when its GDP consistently exceeds its pre-war level; when its national murder rate drops to that of Washington, D.C. or lower; when there are numerous independently-owned media outlets espousing views of Iraq's multiple religious and ethnic groups; and when all the above occurs with no greater U.S. presence in Iraq than a few U.S. military bases as necessary to deter invasion or other meddling from Syria and Iran. Thus defined, "victory" will take years to achieve. But it will be well worth it, and definitely achievable as long as we don't elect Democrats.

That's your problem willem. Your not actually an openminded individual! Your a stereotyping, all associating, hating anyone that disagrees with you, selfish individual. Fortunately, anyone who has ever had a conversation with you understands this. I will waste no more time with you jellohead! To many other wonderful things in life to enjoy!!!
