When it comes to assessing the readiness of our military, it appears that Jack P. Murtha, head Al Qaeda cheerleader, knows not of what he speaks (emphases mine):
WASHINGTON Army officials angrily defended the capability and competence of the service Thursday in response to criticism from a pair of House Democrats who said the fighting forces readiness is dangerously low.
Outspoken war critic Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., and Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., on Wednesday again called for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for what they said was his failure to keep the military properly staffed and equipped.
They also released a 12-page report compiled from their staffs examination of Army reports and congressional information requests, which said funding shortfalls and poor planning have led to the very real prospect that Army readiness will continue to erode, undermining its ability to meet the theater commanders needs
But Army officials called the detailed report inaccurate and the conclusion of the congressmen off-base.
Todays Army is the highest quality Army this Nation has ever produced it has not gone south, according to a statement released in response to the report. To imply otherwise is an insult to the young men and women who have volunteered to protect our nations freedoms.
Remember, in his quest for political power, Jack Murtha is no stranger to the concept of gratuitously insulting the integrity of the military.
I am sure the voters of PA-12, 18 percent of whom are active and retired military voters (not to mention their families and friends), will remember that as well.

Since I also dressed as a tree for a living (inside joke), I have no problem turning my back on Murtha.
1. His idea to redeploy a quick reaction force from Iraq to Okinawa sounds good - to anyone who doesn't know how to read a map.
2. He ignores the National Guard troops from his own state who tried to get him to talk to them at many of his anti-war events.
3. He sure is quick to attack TODAY's soldiers and Marines as war criminals with little regard as to whether he knows what he's talking about or not.
No Jack, from one Marine to another.... F%&k off.

Murtha would not talk to the National Guardsmen from his state, at hhis anti-war functions.
here I was thinking a Congressman is supposed to listen to all of his constituents. I'm not surprised the msm either did not report on this or they glossed over it.
Murtha and his colleages seem more interested in trying to affix blame than they are in trying to come up with real solutions. The idea of redeploying to Okinawa was either a Freudian slip or he does not know what he is talking about. A quick reaction force deployed in Kurdistan might be a workable plan but I don't see how a force deployed to Okinawa would be helpful in Iraq.

Like or hate Rep. Murtha he did do something which very few politicians today have done: He served in the military.
A majority of Americans are either too lazy, too 'busy' or too scared to serve their country today and Im not sure why. Im deoplying on my THIRD rotation to Iraq because Americans wont serve. My unit is understaffed and the only way we have maintained ops readiness is thru 26 stop-loss orders.
You want to support us? Go sign up. Today.
Im sick and tired of reading about people on the left and people on the right 'claiming' to support the troops when in reality they are not doing crap to support us. Instead they spend all their free time complaining about politicians.
I have seen my 5 yr daugher for only 6 months in the last 3 d@mn yrs and I am tired of rotating in.

Marky--
I thank you for your service. The reason that I started ventures such as "Murtha Must Go!", above all else, is that my son is currently serving in Iraq (his first tour). I became tired of Murtha's rhetoric giving aid and comfort to those who have him and yourself in their crosshairs. The last straw was when Murtha pretty much appointed himself judge, jury and executioner with regard to the Haditha incident; without so much as having read a report; and without any form of due process having taken place. That is an abhorrent practice coming from an elected high-ranking elected official. It is even more heinous coming from a veteran Marine.
While I do not dispute Jack Murtha's service, he has disgraced it, given his seditious, irresponsible rhetoric.
Last week a platoon-mate of my son was murdered by an IED. There is no way I can stand by and watch Murtha feed more and more propaganda to the enemies that murdered him without it going unchallenged.
I hope you understand.

Marky Mark,
I hope you make it home soon, whether it's more recruits or withdraw of any sort.
"My unit is understaffed and the only way we have maintained ops readiness is thru 26 stop-loss orders."
Is this Army official playing politics?
“To imply otherwise is an insult to the young men and women who have volunteered to protect our nation’s freedoms.”
The report was not attacking the soldiers abilities at all, it was about equipment, the number of soldiers, and time. To try shifting this attack to the soldiers, and away from administration is a political assault, using our support for the real hero's, in a political manner. Rather than accepting there is a problem and doing something about it, this official simply attacks someone looking for solutions that recognizes a problem. As Marky Mark states, he is sick of redeploying, something this official isn't addressing.
The quality of our troops is a reflection of experience, from surviving in the field for so long, not from being well equipped and staffed.
Leo, your blogs tell a lot about you. I understand you are pro-Israel, but do you really believe that everyone in Lebanon is a terrorist? Your "Official Lebanese War Casualty Meter" indicates that you do. You are by far the stupidest blogger I have seen here. It just shows how the warmongering Bush loyalists are willing to overlook stupidity to be supported by anyone, even someone as ignorant as you.
Good job Matt, you've got a real winner here. You people exaggerate everything so far beyond reality, that people can't help notice what idiots you are. Leo is proof that there is no correlation between wisdom or maturity, and age.

Thank you for service. I hope and pray you and the guys and gals you serve with can home soon either because we get more troops for Iraq or we withdraw from Iraq.
I am unable to serve in the military because of a congenital condition. My eye sight is not good enough. Other wise I would sign up.
I have repeatedly lobbied my Congressman and the President to call for more troops for Iraq and the broader GWOT. I will continue to do so.
You raise the point that politicians both, Republicans and Democrats, squabbling among themsleves does not help the situation. More time should be spent working together to find constructive solutions and less time should be spent trying to affix blame or avoid taking responsibility for their mistakes.
God bless you and thank you for service. I hope and pray you all can come home soon.

When Murtha started referring to unconvicted Marines as "cold-blooded killers" I wrote him off as intellectually dishonest, unethical, and unworthy of respect.
I don't care if he consults Shirley MacLaine and we learn that he served in the military in his last seven lifetimes, he is a disgrace and should be removed.
I am tired of people wrapping themeselves in the flag and then demanding respect based solely on their military service. Plenty of good, honest, intelligent, respectable, dependable, people never served in the military and yet have excellent leadership skills, common sense, and the kind of integrity we need in our leadersthip. Plenty of people served in the military and were inadequate as leaders and showed few if any of the qualities we should be looking for.
I happen to think that two of the least respectable members of the Senate are Murtha and McCain. A D and an R. Both veterans, and both expecting to get a pass based on what they did thirty or forty years ago. Now is the tipping point. This is the era we need to look at. And neither of these men has ACTED in a way which will encourage our troops, enable victory, or present a united front to the world. Rather, each has acted shamefully, using the conflict in Iraq to furhter personal political agendas.

Marky Mark, I have a loved one at Fort Dix now readying for his second deployment. My problem with Murtha is unhelpful statements such as this. How does this help with recruitment?
From Jan. 3rd WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Rep. John Murtha, a key Democratic voice who favors pulling U.S. troops from Iraq, said in remarks airing on Monday that he would not join the U.S. military today.
A decorated Vietnam combat veteran who retired as a colonel after 37 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, Murtha told ABC News' "Nightline" program that Iraq "absolutely" was a wrong war for President George W. Bush to have launched.
"Would you join (the military) today?," he was asked in an interview taped on Friday.
"No," replied Murtha of Pennsylvania, the top Democrat on the House of Representatives subcommittee that oversees defense spending and one of his party's leading spokesmen on military issues.
"And I think you're saying the average guy out there who's considering recruitment is justified in saying 'I don't want to serve'," the interviewer continued.
"Exactly right," said Murtha
