I understand the root of your desire, but in addition to the fact that we shouldn't screw with the 2-term limit (after all, what about the next Clinton-type idiot who might get into office, years or decades down the road? Goes around, comes around, etc.), there's also the fact that President Bush must be aging 5 years for every year in office. The stress is not good at the best of times, and the conditions under which he must labor (read: vicious partisan sabotage and vilification at every turn) don't make it any easier.
He really deserves to be able to rest & retire while he's still alive. God knows that in his position, I'd have died of a stroke years ago.

Instead, it's always someone else's problem: "fraud", voting machines or hanging chads. The liberals idea of democracy is to let the voters keep on voting until they get it right. Or left.

I've always thought that it should be just 1 6 year term. Gets rid of the 3rd year pandering, gives the guy one chance to get it done and doesnt have to worry about getting re-elected so he can do what he thinks is right. I think 6 years is enough to accomplish significant tasks.
Matt I must respectfully disagree with you on the pres deserving a third term although for different reasons than the idiot dims and snowbacks. He's left our borders wide open, he has pandered to the BS of Islam being a "religion of peace", pussyfooted around with the likes of Sadr and the Sunnis(we should have been ruthless with more boots on the ground), he hasnt pushed for drilling in Alaska and off the coasts, hasnt pushed for nuclear power plants, he's been absent and inarticulate in defending his administration and what I believe is an unfortunate but necessary excursion into the M.E. Well, back in the *very* early days of the Clinton Administration there was much rumination among the left about repealing the 22nd Amendment. That kind of talk died out about Year 3, when they were just slogging along determinedly trying just to win re-election. After MonicaGate only the extremely kooky leftists (kind of like the ones around here) were still talking about it at all.

Opus,
How many times do I have to go over this? Research on decision making shows that better choices are made when focusing on something else(the deliberation without attention effect)--like reading to children. And better decisions are made the more time is between the gathering of information and the actual decision. Yes, there is an opportunity cost, but if Bush had acted precipitously and shot down the last hijacked plane, we would not have had such an example of bravery as by Americans themselves (not the government) at saving other Americans by solving their own problems. Of course, for you to believe this was all a part of a greater design would require a faith you have yet to grasp. But I will pray for you.

And you just passed from ignorance to active dishonsty. You obviously did follow that link I provided... you snipped a quote (out-of-context, of course) from it. But even after having read it, you still tried the 'Repubs blocked wiretapping expansion!' bullshit... when that link made two things very, very plain.
One, HR 3953 (the legislation to which Orrin Hatch was referring) didn't actually contain any wiretapping expansions. And two three months before the Senate had already passed wiretapping expansions (S. 735).
So, you're a liar. This does not surprise.

To me, seven minutes would be remarkable, but when I timed the video with a stop watch I only got five minutes. Why do libs have to lie about the most elementary, readily checkable, aspects of this event?
What you don't seem to understand is that 90% of initial reports are wrong and the President and his staff understand this. Off camera his staff were scrambling to confirm the details so that decisions and statements could be based on substantiated facts. The President chose to finish the event because he understood that the staff required time to finish their work. If you ever get the chance to work with a dedicated staff you will understand that the best way to get things done is to stay out of their way.
As I watch the video my admiration for this wonderful man grows. I see a man struggling to control his emotions. I see both sadness and anger, but more than that I see a determination to not let this affect the children. His ability to interact with the children so positively in the midst of this tragedy is inspiring.
Within minutes of leaving the class he was on TV informing the nation about the attacks and promising to bring the perpetrators to justice. In the months and years since he has kept his vow and steadfastly pursued the terrorists and their state sponsors. Even more reason to admire him.

This post, I believe, simply states what many Americans believe, at least in reference to GW having the opportunity to serve another term. As the leader of the free world and the single most powerful nation, the notion of a four year term, broken up by having to run for re-election in the middle of the first term just seems like a poor way to do business. I'd not object to an overhaul of the 22nd amendment to read something more along the lines of two six year terms with a provision for a recall by the people since there is already an impeachment process to cover other contingencies.

Opus;
Unlike you I actually fact check the assertions from both sides of the debate. While some on both sides play fast and loose with the facts, by and large I have found that the right is far more honest.
I find it curious that Moore et al find it necessary to lie about seemingly insignificant details; I mean if you're going to assert that President Bush is a boob because he sat in a classroom what difference does it make if it was 5 or 7 minutes?
I'm going to make a painful admission; prior to 9/11, I was a big Lib and totally bought into the "Bush is a moron" template. I was really upset when Gore lost the election in 2000 and wondered how this could happen. I got over it and went on with my life content in the knowledge that it would only be four years. Then one morning, I was sitting in my office listening to the news feed they have connected to the phone system and heard about a plane crashing into the World Trade Center. Just an unfortunate accident I thought, but when they announced the second plane I knew the US had been attacked. I left my office, and found a TV and spent the rest of the morning virtually paralyzed watching images I will never forget that still bring a tear to my eye.
Out of the chaos, emerged two leaders I had previously disdained; Mayor Rudy Guiliani and President George W. Bush. This was a complete odds with my preconceptions and forced me to re-evaluate my opinion of the President. The "moron" I thought I knew simply wasn't capable of performing like this.
One thing you have to understand about me is that I pulled myself out of poverty by my own bootstraps and have a lot of pride in my intellect and abilities. That I could be this wrong about anything offended me and I set out to find out where I had made my mistake. As I retraced the news stories I had accepted at face value before, I started to look deeper. When they referenced an article or speech I went and found the original article or a transcript/audio tape/video of the speech. Time and again I found that what was reported was almost the opposite of the original source material. This incompetence or malfeasance is so pervasive that I no longer trust anyone and track my news back to original material whenever possible.
This is why, when I read two stories that quote the same information but have different versions of it I take the time to check, even if this means sitting with a stopwatch. I do this because I want to know the TRUTH so that I can base my opinions on substantiated fact and not the drivel that comes out of some talking heads mouth.
As for the President being able to do no wrong, this is far from the truth. I strongly disagree with his prescription medicine program and his amnesty program for illegal immigrants. That said, I think he’s gotten it mostly right, especially with regards to the WOT which we’ll probably be fighting for the next few decades. I hope the American people have the good sense to elect someone who understands the stakes as well as George W. Bush.

Bush.
NC Cop, You said: "It's the country that my Carolina Hurricanes beat in the Stanley Cup finals, right?"
That's a low cruel blow. Very insensitive of you.
