This is very sad and disheartening news ...
Dad came in early this morning, and told me that Steve Irwin had died. He said that it scrolled across the bottom of the screen on the Fox News ticker. I was a bit shocked and didn't really believe him.
So, I went to searching up news on the internet and found it to be true. News was all over the place.
He was just off the Great Barrier Reef, filming an underwater sea documentary on the oceans most dangerous animals. While filming, a sting ray whipped its stinger into his chest and punctured into his heart. They rushed him back to a larger boat, which had his medical crew 'Croc One' on board. They worked with him and tried to revive him. But when they reached the nearest island where a helicopter had landed, it was too late.
Steve suffered an untimely death, and it's really really sad, to me. I watched a countless number of his shows and absolutely loved them. He dealt with the World's most dangerous creatures, and he found something in them that nobody else quite could. He always expressed the beauty that he found in each and every one. And despite taking a number of bumps, bruises, and scratches from them, he always wanted to let people know that there was something good there. Despite the danger.
Even though he seemed 'out there' and had a very high spirited attitude, he always expressed his deep love and care for what he was doing. That he wanted to preserve these precious creatures lives so that our world and ecosystems could survive and thrive, more abundantly. He shed a different light on the worlds more feared and misunderstood animals. Not because he was out there for a big scene, which inevitably came, but because he truly loved the animals.
I'd like to express my deepest sympathy to his family, Terri, Bindi, and little Bob. I know they must be going through very deep grief right now. My prayers are with you all, and with all his friends. I know that Wes Mannion, his best mate and right-hand man, is taking it just as hard.
Rest in peace, Steve.
Crikey!!!
Rest in peace, Steve; your fans will miss you. You were "out there," but you truly loved your job.
Condolences and prayers to Steve's family.
RIP Mate!
We will miss you Steve. Our Prayers are with your family.

Keefer is correct...Steve was a liitle "out there"
but seemed to love everything he did! I believe he died doing what he loved best. My prayers are with his wife, they seemed to be such good friends and loved each other, and his kids who would have benefitted from his enthusiasm for life.
I'm sure the Australian Zoo will keep his life remembered.

I loved his shows. The things he did gave me the heebie-geebies because I'm kind of a wimp where snakes and spiders are concerned but his love for the animals shone through. His presence on screen was compelling and I will miss him.
Deepest sympathies to his friends and family.
You know, I'm amazed at how everyone is talking about his death. Not because I find it a bad thing but because he was just a guy who loved animals. He even loved the ones we're normally not supposed to, especially the dangerous ones. Seems as if folks across the globe are at least acknowledging his death, and for that I think he'd be glad.
To you Steve! Cheers!
If someone has to die to early, and tragically, the least one can wish for is to die doing what you love. That is what happened to Steve Irwin. I hope he gets to continue doing what he loves in heaven. Otherwise, I just can't see it being heaven for him.
Steve Irwin's death shocked me. I feel like a light went out in the world. His enthusiasm for life, for the animals, his love for his wife Terri and his children Bindi and Bob shone through like the sun. My prayers go out to Steve and to his family. RIP, Crocodile Hunter. You will be missed.
My heart goes out to his family and friends, especially for the little children, this is so sad, for them!
Steve was so enthusiastic for God's creation!
He had a passion for the animals he worked with everyday!!
I pray that Steve had his heart right with God and is in heaven right now!

Wow this is really sad. I really loved the show, and Steve seemed like the type of guy you would want for an uncle or a father. He will be missed all around the world. How did the famous KOS of Dailykos react-
"Not political, I know. Irwin had two small children. I'll never understand parents who put themselves in such positions of danger knowing that a misstep can leave their children without a parent."
Pretty damned heartless I would say. In defense of a lot of the posters over there though, about half of them are torn up about it.
