Why so afraid of exposing the truth that has been supressed for 6 years??

Posted by: civilbehavior at August 31, 2006 02:21 PM

Same old GOP campaign strategy...FEAR, FEAR and more FEAR.

Be afraid of:
- Drugs
- Gays
_ Judges
- Terrorists
- Saddam
- Iran
- Korea
and now, my personal favorite, anyone who isn't Republican. You folks make me sick.

Posted by: 3moreyears [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 02:57 PM

Afraid, I long for a return to the 90's. Back to when America was respected around the world, budget surpluses, cheaper medicine and gasoline, lower local taxes, judges that uphold the constitution, a FEMA that works, sending missles down on Bin Ladens head, fixing a school system that is currently a joke, back to a time where hatred of facism is no longer in vogue, and finding out how Chaney and Haliburton were able to get $9 Billion out of Iraq.

Heard Bush today in Salt Lake City. He sounded like he was President of Iraq. Spending a lot of money on them; how is that going to help me put my kids through college.

Come join the 71%, you owe nothing to the Grand Oil Party

Posted by: joshekeaton at August 31, 2006 02:58 PM

P.S. Except for Lieberman of course.

If all republicans have to campaign on is to be afraid of the big bad democrats - then we surely are in trouble in November. I am sick of this fear fear fear business - its getting old. It seems to me all Washington wants to do is name post offices after themselves - not, god forbid represent the will of the voters who put them there. I say - Good Riddance.

Posted by: Ford at August 31, 2006 03:25 PM

couldn't agree more 3more -
like this administration has done such a stellar job- LOL

"Republicans have been downright disappointing: spending money like Democrats, vacillating on key counter-terror programs, engaging in simplistic nativism on trade and immigration, blocking earmark reform and legislative transparency. "

"The Republicans have been lousy on policy and, sometimes, downright embarrassing. But that is a fight to wage in the primaries."

Finally some honesty.....

"Same old GOP campaign strategy...FEAR, FEAR and more FEAR. "

Give me a break!!! Democrats are the ones claiming that Bush and the Republican party are making us less safe... and what do democrats think will make us safer? leaking details of how we monitor terrorists? Democrats are fighting more for the "rights" of terrorists than they are to save the American people from terrorist attacks.

God help us if the Democrats win in November.

there was so much info and contructive commentary in your post as well.

Fear, Fear, Fear? Like saying Bushes Social Security plan (which was EXACTLY the same as Clinton's) would ruin the system?

Fear, Fear, Fear? Like saying Rublicans want the elderly to eat dog food?

Fear, Fear, Fear? Like claiming that Republicans are bigoted haters of all the blacks who want to put them back into slavery?

BULLS%^T - You Democrats make ME sick. Why don't you go TORTURE OF AMERICAN AN SOLDIER AT GUNPOINT. You know you want to.....

The fear, of course, is for the country - fear that if these hopelessly corrupt and horrifically incompetant Democrats did manage to gain power, we'd have two years of impeachment hearings while the world slips towards a nuclear-armed terrorist Armageddon.

You on the left are manifestly incapable of governing this nation, and we are determined, as patriots, to keep you as far away from power as possible.

"Be Afraid, Very Afraid of the Democratic Majority"
Matt, Why are you afraid of? Calm down bro-things
will be Ok. Personally I don't care which party
is in power as long as they make the right decisions. Unfortunately, Bush and Co. have made
so many blunders that they are paying a heavy price politically for it not to mention that it trickles
down to the regular american citizens also.
I believe that Bush has shown us all he's got so its
time for a change. Its time to see if the Dems can do any better. Its nothing to be afraid of. Some times change is good and NEEDED!

What's fun here is to watch the GOP have a nervous breakdown. They have absolutely NOTHING to run on, no record but failure and more failure. So what should they do...try to scare the public AGAIN and hope for the best. It may work, it may not. But you have to ask, is this what you've become? Is this all you've got? Blame the opposition before they have power. Cool, sorta like pre-crime. Even if you stay in power, you shouldn't.

Ah, yes ... the good old 90’s when “America was respected around the world”

February 1993, a group led by Ramzi Yousef tried to bring down the World Trade Center with a truck bomb, Plans by Omar Abdel Rahman and others to blow up the Holland and Lincoln tunnels In October 1993, Somali tribesmen shot down U.S. helicopters, In early 1995, police in Manila uncovered a plot by Ramzi Yousef to blow up a dozen U.S. airliners while they were flying over the Pacific. In November 1995, a car bomb exploded outside the office of the U.S. program manager for the Saudi National Guard in Riyadh, killing five Americans and two others. In June 1996, a truck bomb demolished the Khobar Towers apartment complex in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing 19 U.S. servicemen and wounding hundreds. The attack was carried out primarily by Saudi Hezbollah, an organization that had received help from the government of Iran.
Until 1997, the U.S. intelligence community viewed Bin Ladin as a financier of terrorism, not as a terrorist leader. In February 1998, Usama Bin Ladin and four others issued a self-styled fatwa, publicly declaring that it was God's decree that every Muslim should try his utmost to kill any American, military or civilian, anywhere in the world, because of American "occupation" of Islam's holy places and aggression against Muslims.
In August 1998, Bin Ladin's group, al Qaeda, carried out near-simultaneous truck bomb attacks on the U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The attacks killed 224 people, including 12 Americans, and wounded thousands more.
In December 1999, Jordanian police foiled a plot to bomb hotels and other sites frequented by American tourists, and a U.S. Customs agent arrested Ahmed Ressam at the U.S. Canadian border as he was smuggling in explosives intended for an attack on Los Angeles International Airport.
In October 2000, an al Qaeda team in Aden, Yemen, used a motorboat filled with explosives to blow a hole in the side of a destroyer, the USS Cole, almost sinking the vessel and killing 17 American sailors.

When we had “budget surpluses”
The myth of the budget surpluses has been exposed repeatedly; using the Social Security trust fund; a liability as an asset, the CBO claimed to have the ability to meet the obligation and have a surplus of funds for other budgetary obligations. In an Enron-like bait and switch, the Administration was able to fund budget measures by raiding the Trust fund, while simultaneously claiming to still have the funds in the form of a surplus.

“Cheaper gasoline and medicine”
(Los Angeles, CA) Calling Bill Clinton’s decision to draw upon U.S. oil reserves to ease the ever burgeoning gasoline prices “shortsighted and politically driven,” John Hagelin announced today his own comprehensive plan to make the United States energy self-sufficient within five years.
“lower local taxes”
”Major tax burden on a family of four with income of $50,000 at the state and local levels reached a saturation point, the highest aggregate in U.S. History in the summer of 1997.”
”judges that uphold the Constitution” (this is just absurd!) “a FEMA that works”
Northridge earthquake 1994, FEMA 7 days to respond. 1998 Hurricane Georges; 4 days to respond. 2004 Ivan, 2 days, 1992 Andrew 6 days. 2002 California wildfires 3 days.
” sending missles (sic) down on Bin Laden(‘)s head,” What? bin Laden worked in that aspirin factory?

Yes, the 1990’s; when military secrets were given to Chinese Communists in exchange for campaign contributions, when the Koreans were given $ millions in aid for signing an agreement to not build nuclear weapons, which they did, when bin Laden was offered to us and we said, “no thanks, let him attack us first, then we’ll make it a police issue.” When our troops were used to aid Islamists in the ethnic cleansing of Europe, when our troops were dragged through the streets of Mogadishu for the crime of helping to feed the starving citizens, when we were not only the patsy’s of the Islamofascists, but we could be counted on to acquiesce to every outrageous demand they made. When a violation of law and perjury by a sitting President was a choice, and just a matter between him and his family; when the Administration used its considerable power and contributions from like-minded from sleeping in the White House to attempt to ruin its enemies and prevent them from getting their day in court. When a man accused of rape was defended by the NOW crowd, when the antics of the “lovable rogue” in the White House was the ridicule of the world.

No, you can keep the 90’s, I prefer that liberals hate the US rather than sell out the principles that made us the greatest power in world history; the most charitable; and the protector of human rights; the first, last and best hope for the free world.

Mark, you've completely lost it buddy. The idea that only the GOP can save us is very misplaced and childish. As far as armageddon goes, I thought it was you guys who were the main cheerleaders. To my eyes, if we're going there, it's by Bush's hands. He is clearly NOT a peacemaker.

3more,
What happened to your self imposed banishment from B4B?
Typical liberal, no will power. Do you want the government to step in and do it for you?

Posted by: Bane of Liberals' Existence [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 06:55 PM

Same old liberal strategy

Don't be afraid of drugs...let anyone use them, especially kids.

Don't be afraid of terrorists...they aren't a threat. All people in the world are nice.

Don't be afraid of judges appointed for life, they are always fair and balanced.

Don't be afraid of Saddam...he's a really nice guy and our friend.

Don't be afraid of Iran...he really didn't mean to say he wished to wipe Israel and the USA off the face of the map and he really does intend to use his nuclear power for peaceful purposes.

Don't be afraid of Korea...they treat their people so well there and have the best of intentions for our allies in Japan and South Korea.

THIS, my FRIENDS is exactly why we should fear the left...because of complete NUTBAGS like 3moreyears, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and the rest.

"There was a strange innocence about the world. Someone recently recalled one U.S. senator's reaction in September of 1939 upon hearing that Hitler had invaded Poland to start World War II. He exclaimed:'

“Lord, if only I had talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided!'
I recount that history because once again we face similar challenges in efforts to confront the rising threat of a new type of fascism. Today -- another enemy, a different kind of enemy -- has made clear its intentions with attacks in places like New York and Washington, D.C., Bali, London, Madrid, Moscow and so many other places. But some seem not to have learned history's lessons."

Bane,

You're correct. I stay away from this site for obvious reasons. This showed up on one of my aggregators so I looked. Sorry. Hmmm, names and labels, got anything better? Like an idea or a clue?

Warrior,

Same comments. I smell fear among you. You are an asshole and a syncophant, how 'bout that for names and labels. Sorry, the war on drugs, sex, gays, judges, opposition and now democrats simply will not be won. It's all just politics and manipulation, get over it, k?

Again, sorry if this double posts but you guys really need to get past your hatred of science and hire some real IT people.

3,
I see you're still selling that doom and gloom in the 1st quarter of 2007. Ironic isn't it that you chastise B4B for fear mongering and every time you post it's more of the same fiscal disaster predictions.
Pot, meet kettle …

Posted by: Bane of Liberals' Existence [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 07:28 PM

The Demorats are clearly on the defensive with the recent comments by Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Bush.

Also, as I indicated in the other thread, the economic data today was quite strong. Gasoline prices are plunging, and this will help stimulate the economy in the coming months. The economy is reaccelerating.

Posted by: Tina at August 31, 2006 07:29 PM

Bane, I'm not sellin' anything. This is just the financial look forward. You can say it's me, but I spoke with my folks today at MS and imagine this, they're right on board with it. I told you guys in May this was how it would play out by the end of the year. Here's a thought, let's wait till then and talk again.

Also, my fiscal predications aren't calling for "Armageddon" like Mark. It'll be tough but we'll get through it one way or another. Mark's saying that if the Dems win, the end of the world is nigh.

Posted by: 3moreyears [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 07:52 PM

Read the linked story. I especially loved the "Spending money like Democrats" part.

While your guy has spent more money than any administration in the history of the country.

And what have we gotten for it?

Posted by: PM at August 31, 2006 07:54 PM

Tina,

If you want a more rational view of the numbers that just came out please read this:

When you're done, I'll buy your rose colored glasses - cheap.

Posted by: 3moreyears [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 07:56 PM

Tina,

Sorry, I shouldn't have said a more rational view, that was incorrect, but it is in fact a more detailed analysis.

Posted by: 3moreyears [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 08:04 PM

3moreyears...funny, you can't argue your way out of it so you start attacking posters.

Hilarious.

You know everything I stated is absolutely DEAD on which is why you miss the boat so badly.

Don't worry 3moreyears, you will soon be out of your teens or 20's and will grow up. At that point you will understand what a failure the liberal philosophy is like the rest of us. That doesn't mean you become a Republican..I'm not...they spend too much money and don't get too many issues. But it does mean recognizing the pure insanity of the leftist mantra.

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 08:09 PM

Warrior,

Where to start??? I am in fact an ageing boomer. Yes that puts me at just about the age of your father (likely but not really sure). So, when I "grow up" I should hope to be like you? Not likely. I've been fighting attitudes like your's since the 60's.

Sorry for responding, for you my friend are an idiot. To be sure, it won't happen again.

Bane,

Here's an interesting question for you...If the US economy is SO great and all things are looking wonderful, why is Sir Dick (Cheney that is) investing so much of his fortune overseas? What's wrong with American investments? What does he know that you don't?

http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/40796/

Keep on being fooled my friends. I would feel sorry for you, but you have in essence asked for it.

Posted by: 3moreyears [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 08:23 PM

First of all 3 years old, or 2 years old, I never called you any names, nor attacked you personally. I only pointed out to factual data and economists' opinions from Bloomberg and Marketwatch, and Financial Times. They say that the economy is re-accelerating this quarter and that customers are not "slowing their consumption down." This has to do with the job market being strong (whether you believe the W-2 payroll numbers or the household survey, or some number in between those (which I believe in); plunging energy prices; 7% real growth in wages; and the highest disposable income on record.

Your doom and gloom is just not supported by the numbers at this time.

Posted by: Tina at August 31, 2006 08:55 PM

3moreyears....If you are that old, then you should be embarrassed for yourself.

My dad, deceased, would roll in his grave over your type of attitude.

Nevertheless, you revert back to the same. You have been exposed on YOUR post and you resort to name calling only.

Congratulations, that is definitely a healthy way to "fight attitudes" of others. It's sure to get them to see your point of view.

Of someone of your advanced age, it's a shame that this little nugget of wisdom has been lost on you.

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 08:57 PM

I predict that the experts will increase their 3rd quarter numbers on economic growth to the 3 to 4% range. Why? Strong consumption numbers reported today, an increase in business investment, and an increase in net exports.

The second quarter numbers will reach the low 3%+ range when the final numbers are released next month.

Posted by: Tina at August 31, 2006 08:59 PM

3moreyears, any prudent investor puts their investments in a diversified portfolio. Only someone that is complete isolationist (like most of the Democratic party) would only put their money into homefront economics.

It's a global economy 3, and that isn't changing. Time you guys finally wake up and realize that.

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 09:00 PM

3,
If you are looking to Cheney’s funds for financial direction, you’re a bigger fool than I previously thought. One significant problem with the economy, which you have never hit on although I’ve pointed you in this direction many times, is the lack of domestic investments. This is what economists refer to as “savings.” The lack of American savings can turn into a problem for investors, especially as the GDP increases from consumerism.

By savings we are not speaking about funds kept in savings institutions (banks and S&L’s) but the balance between our production and our consumption. This gap has been narrowing for many years and could loom as a long term debt problem. But, before you get out your “I told you so” remember that the US is running an “income surplus” (our $9 trillion in foreign investments net us more than the $11.5 trillion that foreigners net in US investments.)

Why not look to the investments of those foreign concerns? China increased its investment in the US by 36%, Japan doubled it’s investment in the last few years. Every other major player in the world markets are buying into the US market, and the speculation is increased ROI without the speculative risks American investors are willing to accept.

If you decide to sit this out until after the doom and gloom you have predicted, and btw, every “progressive” economist, than more the pity you. I’ll be sipping on a PEÑA COLADA in the Bahamas on the money I’ll be making off of this robust economy while you’re hiding under your bed waiting for the repo guys to come take away you 1972 Pinto for lack of payment.

Posted by: Bane of Liberals' Existence [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 09:00 PM

Warrior,

Sorry to have to put it more plainly but you apparently didn't get it the first time, no further comment to YOU.

Posted by: 3moreyears [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 09:01 PM

I got it 3....you are wrong and can't deal with it. You're a 50 something that is immature and is short on the ability to defend your positions.

Trust me, I get it and so does everyone else here.

I have a bleeding heart liberal uncle like you...he's the crazy one in the family.

It's ok, most families have someone like you.

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 09:23 PM

Bane,

I don't claim to be a financial wizard, I'm just looking at some interesting data points. Personally, I'm in the asset class that warrants private money managers, which is what I have. I tend to let them do their job and, BTW I haven't had a 1972 Pinto since.. maybe 1976.

As far as a robust economy, again, let's talk in '07.

Cheers

Damn this site needs some serious IT work. What are you guys doing, hiring Republicans or intelligent designers?

Posted by: 3moreyears [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 09:23 PM

Bane...that is because he it doesn't support his viewpoint.

Libs focus in on things like a laser but are ill equipped to see the big picture. Just like Iraq...they cannot for the life of them envision 5 years down the road let alone a longer time period.

Why would you expect them to understand economics. Hell, this is the same group that believes if you raise taxes on people that this will help the economy. That has proven to be a near 100% fatalistic approach throughout history with the one exception of it happening during a .com boom.

Posted by: Warriornation [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 31, 2006 09:25 PM

Warrior,
Agreed, it just raises my hackles when I see these econo-misses spouting off because of a sound byte they heard. Reading economic tea-leaves is what I do for a living and if it were that easy, everyone would be doing it. I remember my father predicting the eminent collapse of the world economies because Nixon took us off the gold standard. (He’s the same guy that told my older brother not to buy land in Irvine CA because no-one would ever want to build there. I loved him dearly, but I would never take financial advice from him.)
3more predicts economic disaster because that’s easy to do, someday it may happen … (even a broken clock is right twice a day) but I’m not spending my life or my wealth betting on it. And careful with that 50-something stuff, some of us get better with age.

Yes, we do need to fear democrats(COMMUNISTS), Democrats have no plan for war!

What we need to fear the most about democrats is the fact that, If they gain power? The necessary things in life will be totally thrown away i,e - Prayer in Schools, God's name in the pledge of allegiance, discussing creation in Science class.

It is really sad instance when a young person interested in the discussion about the creation of this world raises his/her hand to mention God's name and is SILENCED, This is INSANE folks!!
and it saddens my heart to know that people in America of all places on earth with the all the freedom that we have, and all the luxuries at ease of access, would silence or expell a child for exercising his/her freedom of speech!!

DON'T YOU SEE? Democrats have no desire or have no will to negotiate with God fearing people, because they HATE God and what He done for mankind!

Democrats want one thing and that is CONTROL WITH AN IRON FIST!! Because they have this deep-seated HATRED for Jews, and Christians.

I was watching Bill Oreilly on Fox news last night, and he was showing how these INSANE demoncrats were protesting against God, and America, boys, would I ever hate to be in these peoples shoes, Just imagine what God is thinking about these people right now!

LISTEN PEOPLE!!! What are we going to do if democrats gain power and the war on terror stops and all those evil sick terrorists come over here after us, CAN WE ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN???????????

GOD FORBID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what I'm trying to tell you, We can't allow America to be put into a position where Americans are at a vulnerable state of attack!!!

We've got to keep the REPUBLICAN MAN in office, as our safety, and our whole way of life depend on it!!
If we want to remain a stable peaceful country striving toward the goal of WORLDWIDE PEACE then it is our duty as a Nation - to put people who acknowledge their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in control of this country!!

What would America gain if we put a DEMONCRAT back into office?? N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!!!!
Everything would be GONE, ALL LOST - That President George W. Bush worked, and fought so hard to keep America safe from terrorists!!

So, Do me a favor people? Keep a God fearing, Honest, Kind, and Caring Conservative like President George W. Bush as our President!!

3MY - I could stand it if you made no more posts to anyone. The VP's money is in a blind trust. He has no control over it whatsoever. He walked away from Billions (who else would do that? you?) in options when he agreed to be on the ticket. And, he donates all of his income (ALL) to charity.

You pick on him? What a pip.

Look into Kennedy or Kerry's money. They have shielded their money overseas and in trust funds to avoid the death taxes they impose on others.

Can one of you libby hatemongers actually list out some impeachable crimes? And, some war crimes?

Congress had access to the same intel as the executive branch. Yet, they authorized the war. There was more to it than WMD - and there still is. You guys sound like a broken record with this chant.

War crimes? Like what? Hiding behind civilians? Genocide? Intentionally killing civillians? Not wearing uniforms? Give me a break. Our actions were also authorized by the UN. May or may not have been right - but it was legal. And you claim to be the educated crowd. What a bunch of dolts.

Tell you one thing... stop torturing American soldiers at gunpoint like you did in Washington State this week. THAT will NOT stand.

Kahn:
These liberal friends of ours (if we even can use that phrase with any seriousness anymore since they hate us and an America strong and at ease) don't know what impeach means, much less treason, or bribery, or war crimes.

They actually say Bush is worse than Hitler... as if somehow Bush having a policy of removing Saddam Hussein and letting the Iraqi people vote more than once and write a constitution and assisting them in getting rid of terrorist thugs in their own country is somehow a lot like killing six million Jews.

If this is them being reasonable and enlightened. I'd like to be unreasonable and unenlightened.

You prove a major difference between Democrats and the Neocons. Everything you listed in that long list of dribble was a doom and gloom negative.

I give you the positive that the economy is pretty good right now. The 300 billion borrowed tax dollars spent on the war effort has been a great boost to the economy. Halliburton, Lockheed Martin, Exxon, BP are at full steam cranking out the war supplies. I hope the Iraqi people appreciate the way my future tax dollars are assisting them. In addition to the Iraqi money there is even plenty of borrowed money from China to suggest building a bridge to a few rich folk in Alaska. The credit card economy is chugging along.

wawillyo - for us 'libs' impeachment is more than a blowjob. impeachment is lying a whole friggin country into a false war and blowing 400 billion bucks and the lives of 2700 fighting soldiers for what - a friggin civil war.

let's see - we could also impeach him for spying on US citizens (that's right i said it - spying on US citizens who have no connection to any terrorist activity whatsoever), violating the geneva convention (TORTURE), holding prisoners without charge indefinitely, and god knows WHAT ELSE he's been up to that we DON'T yet know about....

Posted by: orangealert [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 1, 2006 10:27 AM

and if you want to talk about WAR CRIMES AND BRIBERY - why don't you do a bit of research into the background of custer battles. maybe look into some of the history behind the immense fraud and profiteering that has occured under the auspices of the CPA.... hopefully, when the dems DO take control of congress we will finally get down to investigating the absolutely astounding fraud that has been perpetrated by bush cronies with your money and with mine...

you bet the GOP ought to be scared. there is a shiteload of bad business dealings that have yet to see the light of day. but don't worry - they will. they difinitely will.

Posted by: orangealert [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 1, 2006 10:32 AM

orange - thanks.

Same intelligence as the congress. All was actually correct except the WMD part. And Sadaam wanted us to think he was working on them. That move fails.

The custer battles? CPA massive fraud? Give me a break. FYI - the Justice Department is the same people no matter what party is running the White House.

Go ahaead with this dribble - maybe it will make some stay-at-home Republicans vote in November.

Not me though. I already know what a bunch of idiots you are. I grew up in Western Mass. - Heartland of idiocy.

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 1, 2006 10:37 AM

tell me - what else was correct (except the WMD part - oops!)

check it out and then tell me there was no fraud or war profiteering...

Read it yourself. They are "worried". Things "could" happen. But, "After the fall of Baghdad, there was no Iraqi law because Saddam Hussein's regime was dead. But if no U.S. law applied either, then everything was permissible".

Is Iraq the Wild West as portrayed in that article? Yes. Whats your point? You need cash and an open attitude to get things done. This is a technique question separate from whether the war was justified or not. Should they keep an eye on this stuff? Yes. Maybe you could join the government and help? Maybe, if all you brainiac liberals weren't sitting this one out you could get in there and help us win this faster and keep the expenses down.

But..... you're not. Liberals refuse to help the war effort. You refuse to give any helpful suggestions or to join the military or, well anything. You only attack and criticize.

So Orange - lets go. Meet you at BWI and lets go over there and straighten it out. Or, well maybe you should just order another pizza.

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 1, 2006 12:12 PM

orange - why did we go to war with Iraq? You mean the only thing you know about was WMD's? Really?

FYI - EVERYBODY thought he had WMD's. The Congress had access to the same info as the administration. Too bad people like Kerry didn't read any of it. Note, he also didn't go to ANY of the breifings. Maybe if he did his enormous intelect would have made the difference.

This link is a pretty fair look.

Let me ask you this Orange... now what? What should we do now? Right now?

Is it your position that we should immediately withraw ("redeploy") our troops from Iraq?

Is it your position that we should immediately withraw ("redeploy") our troops from Afghanistan?

Two very simple questions. Can you answer them?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 1, 2006 12:31 PM

kahn - here is my position (and believe me there is NO easy solution bc things are so colossally FUBAR over there anyhow):

i have no fricking clue. to be honest i'm agnostic on the withdraw issue. is it worth it to continue spending 8 billion a month babysitting a civil war? honestly? no. i look at things from a fiscal standpoint - all that money could be better spent beefing up our borders here at home. and i bet there are quite a few soldiers who would welcome the idea of coming home after a third tour of duty. in my mind, the country is lost. i mean maybe, when the entire populace has been blown to smithereens and there is nothing left of the country, maybe then we could call the job complete - but if we stay, we're just prolonging a senseless fight.

with regard to afghanistan - by all means, do whatever it takes to crush the taliban and find osama. if it means redeploying more troops i am 1000 percent behind it. unfortunately, they are all tied-up in this "other" war.....

(bash away)

Posted by: orangealert [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 1, 2006 03:10 PM

No - your arguments are fair enough. I think we should stick it out and help Iraq through this rough time.

I think that vast areas of Iraq are not as bad as you think. Maybe locking down the Iranian border will help. It does keep us local if we need to deal with them later.

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 1, 2006 03:45 PM

There is no reason to fear a democratic majority, not as a country.
The war is a major point in politics right now, and it is primarily a Republican backed war. The Democrats want a timetable, and want troops headed home, but it isn't a full on retreat like the political race for the November elections is making it out to be. You have to remember that as the elections draw near the rhetoric grows louder and more exaggerated. As the right and left, to whatever extreme they may be, go at it, we need to keep in mind that this is politics. There will be a lot of labeling, and the impressions they will try to give us will be far more extreme then they actually are, some exaggerated to the point of incorrect.

The only one who needs to be afraid is Bush, a Democratic majority will Impeach him. I stand for smaller government, lower taxes, but I will not sit by while this power hungry head-case expands his power to the point of infringing on my freedoms, using public fear in order to put huge contracts in his buddies pockets at the expense of human lives around the world, this Republican is voting Democrat. Re-writing the laws to avoid prosecution has to stop, Bush is out of control, and the Republican party will not stop him, it time to let the Democrats in.
I have to ask, are you a Republican or a Bush loyalist, because controlling the majority isn't important enough to support Bush, but correcting a mistake as big as he is, is worth voting against your party.

JH - which of YOUR freedoms has Bush stepped on? Be specific.

An impeachment would be interesting. Lies? What "lies"? The Congress had access to the same info he did. So - what then?

I know the Democrats tried to take away my second amendment rights. Specifically with gun bans, waiting periods, and the stupid assault weapons ban.

And I think you may be surprised to find that many Democrats are NOR just looking for a timetable. Read threemoreyears post above. He chose option A - leave now and damn the consquences. How is that different than "leave in 13 months job done or not and damn the consquences"?

Posted by: Kahn [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 2, 2006 03:27 PM

Kahn freedom was in incorrect choice in words.

Lets start with illegal wire taps, infringing on privacy, and go from there.

I disagree with most gun laws, but I do not see a problem with waiting periods or back ground checks.

3moreyears is not a politician, he is not if office or running for office as far as I know.

The Democrats are not as foolish as the Republicans want us to believe, and in the politics of it are mostly putting Bush on the spot. Asking for a timetable is like Bush asking Iran to stop enriching uranium. The Democrats know it isn't going to happen, but it puts light on the fact that we are in a tough situation that Bush put us in. The democrats are not offering a clear solution because there isn't one, it isn't their job yet, and getting Bush out of this hole isn't on their agenda.

My position on the war is, first we have caused more death and suffering there than Saddam did. There is the controversy over Depleted Uranium, which although the government claims is safe, radiation has never been safe, and our troops are suffering the same symptoms the Iraqi people are, and were before this war, like the vets of the first war. The people of Iraq are rejecting their newly elected government because of our involvement in their election. But there is nothing we can do to change what has already been done. So as a solution to the mess we are in now, in short, use the troops there to secure the borders,no weapons in, no terrorists out, provide aid and fair trade agreements and let the Iraqi people sort out a government they can agree on.

I didn't mention "lies", but we can certainly talk about altered intelligence reports, a Republican majority in Congress backing Bush's every move, there was also the confidence of a president that believes he has final say in everything. Lets use the word deception, it has a less direct, but equally deliberate connotation. I myself consider Bush to be more of a puppet than anything, Cheney is the major problem, but it's Bush's authority that is abused. We can also look at the Downing Street Memos, and other correspondence between Bush and Blair. I watched all this from the beginning, and supported Bush when it started, but I'm not blind and can't stand behind him now.

The question of whether this war has made us safer is simple. Look at the way Americans feel toward Arabs when they see images of 9-11. Now look at Iraq, we lost a few buildings and several thousand people, in Iraq we destroyed entire cities and killed over forty thousand civilians. Do you think they know better then to attack us now? Do you think fewer of them hate us? Do they have anything left to lose?

Kahn
I can't imagine you agree with the expansion of power, or no bid contracts being handed out. There are cases of fraud costing us hundreds of millions, with whistle blowers fighting alone in court, while the government refuses to get involved. I understand that these may not be points that help support Bush, but are you really that loyal to him that you are willing to look the other way on these issues? Thats what I want to know, is loyalty to a party so important that people will turn a blind eye to the things they know are wrong. Do you stand so firmly behind him that anything that is said against him is either a lie or justifiable?
